Enough with the Lorem Ipsum. I needed some filler content there for a minute, as I missed Gabe's late-night email asking for a stand-in.

This piece by Jonah Goldberg is good, but he needs to learn the AoSHQ lexicon. It's called a schadenboner, Jonah.

If you canÂ’t take some joy, some modicum of relief and mirth, in the unprecedentedly spectacular beclowning of the president, his administration, its enablers, and, to no small degree, liberalism itself, then you need to ask yourself why youÂ’re following politics in the first place. Because, frankly, this has been one of the most enjoyable political moments of my lifetime.

Absolutely. Read the whole thing. And in that spirit:

6 So as I said in the other thread:

McCain is a big enuff showboater that he could be useful.. if Boehner did in fact try to pass repeal again, there are some Dems in the House who would have to vote for it... so Bi-Partisan!

Then have McCain call for a vote on it in the Senate and the Dem Senators who are in trouble in 2014 might just vote for it... hahahha.. then Barky would have to veto it.

But, then as J.J. said.. this makes too much sense.. it'll never happen.

Assuming 30 million uninsured (the range goes from 15 up to 45, so it's a joke) - even the illegals and those who choose not to buy insurance: Give them $3,000 a year to buy whatever policy they want. If they started a repeal process now, it would take some weeks to do.  By then, the Dec 1 deadline will have come and passed and people still will not be signing up for this POS.

Obama may have to sign on to repeal by then.

96 There is no way any amount of tweaking can make SCOAMTTcare workable, and I vote (ha ha) that the republicans just let it lie and go for full repeal. However, in truth, before I found out my individual plan was being grandfathered I was in panic mode and wanted a stay of execution. I still don't believe the grandfathering thing, though. I used to be paid to be the executive in charge of O' Shea's Law for a large insurer.

And since it's a disaster, I see that NRO and the GOP leadership are all for it. I thought I couldn't get more discouraged. Hell, I was actually starting to feel that losing my coverage would at least get the country to finally see the clusterf*ck, but ....Stupid Party.

A bit of U.S. Vietnam War history.

48 years ago the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division (AirMobile) battled the North Vietnam Army in the Ia Drang Valley of South Vietnam.

The first major ground combat engagement between units of the U.S. Army and the North Vietnam Army occurred from November 14-18, 1965. There were actually two battles. The first occurred November 14-16 at LZ (Landing Zone) X-Ray, and the second from November 17-18 at nearby LZ Albany.

The book about the two battles, "We Were Soldiers OnceÂ… And Young", was written by the commander of the first battle LtGen. Hal Moore and reporter Joseph Galloway (although a civilian, Galloway was awarded the Bronze Star w/V device in 1998 for his actions during the first battle).

The Mel Gibson movie "We Were Soldiers" is about the first battle and events leading up to it. Although the movie is very good, it does have some historical wrongs. But at least it doesn't portray the VN vet as a drug addicted baby killer like most VN movies. Madeline Stowe portrays Moore's wife Julia showing the anxiety and agony of the families back home and her efforts to change the casualty notification system. Sam Elliot portrays Sergeant Major Basil L. Plumley, an Airborne Vet of WW2, Korea, and VN.

Rick Rescorla, who would become known from several 9/11 documentaries, was a platoon leader in the first battle. The cover photo on the Moore/Galloway book is of Resorla. He was killed during the South World Trade Center Tower collapse, after directing the evacuation that saved about 2700 lives.

190 So, I live in an incorporated area of the suburbs now. This area ostensibly leans leftish in various places, so I do have to keep an eye on it (they have a fucking "Climate change committee" for a city of 17k.) Anyway. Currently they're renegotiating the trash contract (trash is covered as part of the taxes we pay.) Before it was absurdly high, contract ($1.3million/year) because years ago someone thought having trash pickup in your back yard was a great thing to be paying for with tax dollars. Thankfully, those days are apparently behind us (for the most part, apparently people with disabilities will get to keep rear yard pick up, which is..whatever, I mean I see why, but at the same time, they still have to pull a recycling bin to the street.) So, slow news week, one of the local news stations was covering this (probably because it represents a 500k budget cut if they get the new price) and I shit you no, the station tried to make it a racial thing. Yes, some new station tried to claim that someone thought eliminating rear yard pickup was racist. I'm gobsmacked. Totally floored. There's weird, then there's this. You heard it hear first folks, an upper middle class (I live on the outskirts in the middle-middle class) area trying to eliminate a useless service is now...apparently racism. (FWIW, the city released a transcript of the meeting noting the word "race" was never said, and their not sure where the news station got it from.)

192 I think Goldberg's point-- and he should have made this clearer-- was that he's enjoying the discomfort of the praetorian guard and liberal forefront, not the pain of everyone affected by this.

I too would enjoy it more if the GOP were not, as usual, dooming itself with this "Keep Your Plan" shit instead of, I don't know, grabbing the opportunity to repeal/defund.

Step away from the nuclear reactor as it's melting down.  But of course they can't even manage that much.

The Democrats have so broken the Constitution and all the Constitutional processes in the last 5 years, that there must be a great political (electoral) purge. This is not the end. This is not the beginning of the end. But it may be the end of the beginning. And they will keep fighting for this, and against the express will of the people. This is a Democrat political dream going back decades. They want the Republicans to agree to some stupid "compromise" that gives this zombie continued life.

Get up to 84.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the available fold-flat front passenger seat back, the standard 60/40 fold-and-tumble second-row seat and the 50/50 split-folding third-row seat. You can fit all your camping gear or sports equipment or the two-by-fours for the do-it-yourself project all in one trip.

And it's a great car for folks with little kids.  It has all the bells and whistles of a Mercedes at an affordable price.  And the dad can add a hemi and pretend he's not driving around the fam but a sports car.

We were deciding between the Pilot and the Durango.  In the end, the durango won hands down.  The durango isn't as boxy as the Honda and gives you all the bells and whistles and still goes off road.  And, it's sleek and stylish.  Looks way more expensive than it actually is.

I wrote a decade ago that We The People should revere our US Constitution with the respect, basing our lives and businesses in accordance to constitutional integrity and principle, as our modern framework similar in civilization's purpose as what the TORAH was for a chosen people. There are some things which are sacred, divine blessings in this world, manifest expressions of where the minds meet in a higher realm of understanding. And those are meant not to be corrupted [example: the tabernacle], as if vessels holding potency of spirit with the power of light to direct humanity, connecting with our better self innate spirit in moral lives and cultures. Wilson was our own destroyer from within; and all things Ivy League ever since have intended to herd populations into labor camps to benefit the very few elitists, global corporatists. It was Wilson who decreed the US Constitution null and void, impotent, irrelevant, inconvenient, OUTMODED. As if Wilson or any progressive political movement (liberal Marxism) had or have the legitimate authority to simply IGNORE the Supreme Law of the Land. RATHER, WITH our Innate Divine Rights as Individuals, aided by our US Constitution and Bill of Rights, We The People have the legitimate authority to rebuke and reject corrupters of our Constitutional Rule of Law. We have the right and the authority to demand EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW. No partiality is legitimate. And I don't want to hear the bitching and moaning that it's impossible to rescind an unconstitutional law-bureau-policy. REMEMBER FDR got his NRA ass kicked for being the unconstitutional program it was. Even Wilson's monstrous and inhumane measures against the citizenry were defeated by subsequent election leadership. As were SCOTUS Chief Justice unconstitutional decisions overturned subsequently. For all the people who say that a federal program can never be rescinded, I say, 'You Lie!' And I also say, you must work unceasingly towards the goal, and never give up. As for this generation, remember Daniel 5:17-30. mene, mene, tekel, parsin

248 Reading through the comments I wonder if many of you have actually read the Jonah Goldberg article. --- We've read more of it than the LIBs have. I'm not criticizing Goldberg's article, per se, (although if it *does* permeate the popular press guess which parts will be excerpted) but the general trend of GOPers openly talking about how to spin this to their partisan advantage and open expressions of mirth at O's failure. It's not helpful for winning over any of the non-cultists who are being raped by this disaster. GOPers and the chattering class people should only have their most sober, serious faces on when talking publicly.

That's a very odd question.  You make a lot of weird comments after my comments but I usually ignore you, I thought you were the site weirdo.  Thsi comment confirms that for me.

251 I should add, I don't consider the comments sections of blogs to be particularly public, so if people want to chuckle here, I don't see it mattering. But if someone goes on Fox or writes an op-ed or gives background to MSM reporters, they need to STFU about partisan advantages.

252 For what it's worth, the 18.5 mpg on my pilot is average, the lion's share of which is city driving.

254 When you go to buy a car there is that sticker on the side of the car saying where the parts came from.  For the durango it was all from American factories.  For the Pilot the engine came from the plant in Japan that was in the earthquake area.

261 An alternative would be for the GOP to start pushing general economy-enhancing bills right now, focusing on things that would have immediate positive impact on the working folks who are getting screwed by Obamacare. How about an immediate tax break for anyone whose insurance costs went up? How about pushing to lower gas prices via deregulation, lowering taxes, in addition to longer-term oil and gas development stuff?

266 Pronouncements by my Uber Liberal guy from yesterday...who is actually ferociously bright, very funny, and well educated: * Thankfully, the Tea Party is dead. The government shut down was on them and they will NEVER recover from it. * Christie is the only possible Republican candidate and he will lose despite the fact that for a Republican, he is not too horrible a person. * All in all, the ACA is beloved by the people and TECHNICAL Barack told the truth about keeping existing policies...it's not his fault there were so many policies that did not meet ACA requirements.

267 131. I like that guy. Posted by: Oldsailors Poet Palin/Bolton 2016 at November 14, 2013 08:40 AM (XIxXP) As do I. He has clarity of thought and great logic, outlining effective strategies to achieve constitutional goals to defeat authoritarian big government, rather than encouraging us to drown or suffocate in more cotton candy fluff stuff, political free skittles ...or something. Despite overuse of Rossini's theme made comic by the cartoonists of Hollywood's Golden Era and cheap ads thereafter, I'd recall the tale of William Tell. Although forced to play by authoritarian and unjust rules, he beat the system via clear vision and singularity of purpose. It was far more than talent with luck that saved his son's life. It was what empowered David to slay Goliath. Faith With Works: "Your faith has made you whole. Now go, and persist to hit the mark."

I don't believe that is quite the selling point you think it is. It is still a Government Motors product, and already subsidized with my tax dollars. It is assembled (I hesitate to call it made) by UAW goons who are actively trying to destroy my country and way of life.

With all this car/van/SUV talk, I hope Purp shows up, as I have a question for him.

I replaced the brain in my 23/yo S-10 yesterday and took it for a test drive. It blew another ECM fuse, just like it did before I replaced it. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I need to keep the cost as low as possible, because funemployment.

I think unless you spend mucho $$$$$ at the dealer for brand new all those electronic parts are rebuilt. I replaced the electronic brain in my Lumina a few years ago and the clock wouldn't shut off. Dead battery in three days. I pulled the clock fuse to no avail. After a trip to the mechanic it turned out there were two fuses that had to be pulled to turn off the clock.

The rebuilt brain cost well over $100. Getting a new one? If you're short on $$$ forget about it.

273 You should test drive the Pilot, the Durango on the same day.

Just read that the durango is attracting a younger demographic than the Pilot.

Probably because it drives and rides like a mercedes, gives you technology you didn't know you would come to love and is cheaper in the end with incentives and rebates.
