Happy Wednesday.

Standard operating procedure for the Obama Administration: Sec. Sebelius says Obama didn't know his Obamacare website wasn't ready to launch. "'We (had) hoped that they had their 'A-Team' on the table' from the start, Sebelius said of the contractors and agencies responsible for the project."

Hoped? As if this project wasn't entirely in the Administration's hands to oversee. She implies that they just left it up to "hope" that it would work out right . . . but we know that's crap--the contractors had told HHS that there were problems and HHS made the decision to launch anyway.

Sebelius is going to have to come up with better answer than this for her testimony before Congress next week.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday, October 23, 2013.  On this day in  1739  the War of Jenkins' Ear started. The war started after the Spanish boarded a British vessel and cut off the ear of the Captain.  This war is also notable because American colonials were enlisted in the British Army and were actually sent overseas.

2 This article about sequester is so full of shit it has brown eyes. Sequester hasn't worked worth a shit.  Obama has thrown money at every commie program it can think of and so has congress.  The only thing that really got a cut was the military.  If they do it again the cuts MUST come out of the social programs.  And the congress needs to let the military close some bases for thewse stupid cuts instead of canceling bone marrow.

3 The Army Chief of Staff says budget cuts are making the Army dysfunctional.  Now why is it that I do not believe him?  The Army may be dysfunctional but it isn't because of budget cuts.  It is because they cut the wrong things due to Congressional meddling and all the stupid PC crap foisted on the troops by people like him.

14 The NFL may have turned down the corrupt Obamanites in promoting Obamacare, but the Baltimore Ravens took him up on it for $130,000.  Remember the huge hue and cry when Bush paid a conservative columnist to hawk one of his programs?  Where is all of that shit now?   The team was recruited by MD State officials which means there is probably more to it than the $130,000.  It also proves that MD is CA East.  The Mason-Dixon line should have been redrawn long ago and VA needs to expel all of their NVA commies to MD and make it illegal for anyone working for the government in Washington DC to live in VA.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Thanks for the headlines, Vic.

Here are a couple of C.B. DeMille stories:

Although sneeringly dismissed by critics for many years for his garish, overblown spectacles, in the silent days, DeMille was an enormously influential director and much of his work still stands up well to modern eyes.  It so happened that, directing a picture for the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company (an ancestor of Paramount), he set up a large lamp next to an actor in order to shoot so that only half of the actorÂ’s face was visible while the rest was in shadow, an effect he borrowed from 17th-century paintings.  Pleased with the result, DeMille sent the picture on to Sam Goldwyn – at that time LaskyÂ’s New York sales manager – for his opinion.

DeMille expected to be complimented for his artistry.  Instead, he got a frantic telegram:  CECIL, YOUÂ’VE RUINED  US.  YOUÂ’VE LIGHTED ONE-HALF THE ACTORÂ’S FACE AND THE EXHIBITORS WILL ONLY PAY HALF PRICE.

DeMille thought about this for a while, then cabled back IF YOU AND THE EXHIBITORS DONÂ’T KNOW REMBRANDT LIGHTING IT IS NO FAULT OF MINE.

Immediately, Goldwyn cabled back:  CECIL, YOU ARE WONDERFUL.  REMBRANDT LIGHTING.  THE EXHIBITORS WILL PAY DOUBLE.

Another one:  in 1916, DeMille was filming The Trail of the Lonesome Pine, based on a popular novel by John Fox, Jr. and adapted into a play by Eugene Walter.  Writers are usually disappointed by translations of their work into film,* but Fox and Walter were astonished at the changes DeMille – who insisted films had their own language and must say things in their own way – had made.

“Well,” Walter sighed as the two left the theater, “at least DeMille kept the pine tree.”

“No,” Fox moaned.  “It was a redwood.”

For no reason at all, how about a picture of Julie Newmar?

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Firing the criminals at the IRS will no longer produce the desired result, just as taking a single Mafia soldier off the streets won't stop an entire crime family.

At this point, the only thing we can hope for is a complete clean-out of Washington D.C., a top-to-bottom removal of the elected lords and their minions. There is too much poison baked into the cake now, from the America-hating terrorist in the White House to the greedheads and traitors in Congress.

They are responsible for the corruption in the IRS and every other worthless, tax-sucking agency. All must be rooted out, with the most visible examples sent off to prison to get their minds right.

72 "The Mason-Dixon line should have been redrawn long ago and VA needs to expel all of their NVA commies to MD and make it illegal for anyone working for the government in Washington DC to live in VA."

While that is a nice idea, there is no way either legally or politically that you could do it.

What you can do is move the jobs away and blue state legislators will fall all over themselves to help you do it.  Move the government jobs out of DC and into states that are already hopelessly blue.  For example, close Fort Drum in Watertown, New York and move the entire HHS department from DC into the newly empty Army base.  The entire New York Congressional delegation will climb over each other to make this happen.  In return all we ask for is a fence on the southern border, repeal of all federal firearms laws and elimination of the EPA.  Chuck Schumer will happily make that deal.  If it requires more votes, close down an Air Force Base in Massachusetts and move in another department from DC, maybe the Department of Education or Department of Transportation.

When you start reading stories about housing prices crashing in the DC area, you will know that this is starting to work.

Why would Team SCOAMT delay the individual mandate now?  Said delay would seriously damage their near-future plan to retroactively reactivate the employer mandate to fuck over Big Business.

Besides, once the unions and HHS reach the "EPA Deal" (conveniently after the 2014 election because there won't be any individual pain felt before then), there will be an effective delay in the individual mandate financed on the backs of Big Business as they become required to pay the individual fines for all those drones they dropped off coverage.

Good news everyone!:

In a highly unusual move for the world's most successful e-commerce company, Amazon.com made things a tiny bit harder for some of its customers Tuesday.

Amazon tightened the requirements for one of its most popular shipping methods. Customers who want their items sent free will now have to buy at least $35 worth of goods, up from $25.

The fact is that hundreds, if not thousands of IRS employees did commit firing offenses in abusing their positions for partisan political purposes even if they were ordered to do so by superiors.  This is stuff that is not subject to statute of limitations and can be pursued even after they retire.  Of course the media would scream about how mean and unjust a Republican administration that fired the guilty IRS flunkies and cut off their retirement but the media do that anyway even if they have to make up stuff.

Punishing government workers for abusing their authority, even years later would deter it from happening again.

Meanwhile, in the Land of Broken Dreams, boy can we eff up rail -- high speed or low:

When downtown voters agreed last winter to bring back the Los Angeles streetcar, the campaign pitch sounded simple: a $125-million trolley through the heart of the central city, with funding split between federal grants and a new property tax.

Officials recently announced that cost estimates have more than doubled, to as much as $327.8 million. Earlier budgets had not accurately accounted for inflation or the potentially high cost of relocating utilities. The route probably will be shortened, no longer passing by two high-profile venues, the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

126 40 years ago, Israel was kicking the shit out of Egypt and Syria, after a devastating surprise attack on the Suez Canal. With the IDF on the verge of capturing Damascus and driving on Cairo, the US compelled the Israelis to accept a cease fire 2 days later - IIRC the Soviets threatened to nuke Israel and start WW-3 if we did not get Israel to agree. Cairo still claims the war a great victory for their side. Sort of like the Japs claiming the won WW2 because of Pearl Harbor.

People keep saying that but it simply is not true.  Lincoln started the war to "preserve the union" ONLY.  he stated that over and over again.

Why was he willing to go to war to preserve the union.  Mostly economic issues.  The South was paying 75% of the Federal taxes.  And If the South left then it was possible that the access to  the Mississippi route would be blocked and Charleston and New Orleans would become the major ports for shipping.

And in fact the NYC hipsters of the day did NOT want any part of it and they rioted.

137 112.  Very interesting question.

But in 1861 men in Massachusetts, New York and Ohio were not enlisting over the moral issue of slavery.  The enlisted to "Save the Union" and that was enough.  Many of those men enlisting in 1861 had personally known old men in their towns who had fought in the Revolution and so they felt a very strong sense of obligation to preserve what their grandfathers had won.  (see, for example, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address which begins with acknowledging the Revolution.  See also, the famous Sullivan Ballou letter: " know...how great a debt we owe to those who went before us through the blood and suffering of the Revolution  And I am willing -- perfectly willing -- to lay down all my joys in this life, to help maintain this Government, and to pay that debt..." )

It is very doubtful that today's urban elites would share the same desire to die just to save the union.

In fact, with the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the principal perceived reason for the war did change from saving the Union to ending slavery and with that change there was such a drop off in voluntary enlistments that the North had to enact conscription.  Riots followed.

I tend to doubt it. Without the moral issue of slavery as a rallying cry, who would go to fight and die to "preserve the union?" Would Brooklyn hipsters, effete Massachusetts liberals, or California illegals sign up to fight and die in the southern Appalachians or the Texas Hill country to keep states in the nation all of them despise anyway?

206 A point that hasn't been addressed in the Oweb problem, the choice of CGI as a contractor and having the government be the "systems integrator" wasn't just made because they had experience in building exchanges or they had connections within the regime.  those choices were made because it didn't involve a major player with their own equities and relationships in Washington.  A Lockheed, Unisys, CACI, BAH, etc. would all have brought their own power and relationships to the table - power and relationships that CGI and few Fedreal IT guys in the basement don't have.  Giving a contract to big guy isn't just making an award, its also getting married - and the Oidiots didn't want a player in the mix who could stand on their own.

240 If it came down to one or the other, I would keep Graham and get rid of McConnell. Graham has no power, except heÂ’s media whore. McConnell is the minority leader, and a poor one at that. HeÂ’s so bad the Schumer wants to name legislation after him for the 2/3 of the majority of both houses to deny SCOAMF a hike in the debt ceiling. Graham is a fool but I do not think heÂ’d agree to anything that gives more power to and gives congress less power. There is a reason that our Founding Fathers made The House hold the purse strings, to keep a president in line. Mitch McConnell should be ashamed of himself. IÂ’m going to do all I can to help elect Bevin. I will call voters in KY, etc.

256 The more I read about the WH strategy with obamacare, the dirtier it sounds. Dirtier than I already assumed they were. Recently, I heard Rove say something astute (yeah, I know), on Greta. Basically, he was stating that JEF gave the companies a 1 year waiver on the mandate because the left had calculated that companies would research/analyze and dump their people into exchanges. Another words, give the left exactly what they wanted. It was a win-win. And, the bloomberg piece* " Presumably they think (correctly) that the longer this goes on, the harder it will be to implement a delay, because so many people will have lost their existing insurance and/or bought new policies through the exchanges. Same deal. The left wants to burn down any hint of the private sector, so there is nothing to return to if it goes down or is repealed. So, what will happen? More taxpayer money dumped on a burning fire to "save" it. This is so vomit-inducingly sickening. Again, TFG and his filthy army are purposely forcing people to suffer. The end justifies the means, no matter the pain and torture inflicted. O'Reilly finally woke up, and called it Communism. 273 Basically, he was stating that JEF gave the companies a 1 year waiver on the mandate because the left had calculated that companies would research/analyze and dump their people into exchanges. Another words, give the left exactly what they wanted. It was a win-win.

The problem with this analysis by the JEFs is that their marxists worldview assumes that companies view healthcare only as a cost.  Many view it also as a retention and recruiting tool, and so are willing to endure the potential of higher costs for an uncertain short term if it keeps good people in their ranks.  Companies that don't give a shit about retention -- off to the exchange.

Another factor pointing towards the Rovian view being correct is the stupid 26yo exemption and the lack of iPhone/Andriod apps for sign up.  If I wanted to maximize the number of young healty people in the pool, I one wouldn't let them hang out on their parents couch and I would have pushed an app to their phones as a higher priority then a website.  One actually begins to wonder if the website problem aren't a deliberate own-goal or fragging to ensure that path to single payer is lubricated with more tears.

Sorry, but two guys (astronomers, actually) named Mason and Dixon drew the line. They drew only one line in one place and it can't be moved. You might as well try to move the path taken by Lewis and Clark.

Suffice it to say we need a new definition of which states are Northern and which are Southern. That makes sense both politically and culturally. Having lived in Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky I can tell you one of these three is not like the other. And Maryland has been a shithole all of my adult life.

I can see why people proud of a southern heritage wouldn't want to be associated with some of those states.

Out of curiosity I ask -- where you would draw the new border between the Northern and Southern states? It seems like as good a mental exercise as any. Hell -- it might even be worth fun arguing about.

We're about maxxed out on cats already, with a delicate domestic balance. But he went from wild & free to caged & stacked in Scary Jail. He needed to be caught, but maybe we should've taken him to the vet & just released him out here, regardless. And, if the o-care plans are more expensive (with less coverage), as it seems so far, than they still have an upper hand. But, this really hurts the small businesses. That is why the left will want more money dumped at it. If they get it, they can basically "subsidize" everyone to keep the costs down, (while destroying the nation economically.) Which leads to the single payer. Yeah, that is obviously their goal. And, if they subsidize the hell out of this faux system, and totally destroy any chance for the small businesses, then there it is. A fully taxpayer paid for system. Same if it fails. We need to take back both houses and the POTUS seat. Only solution. Only saviour.

That's a bit more generous than my guess- which is that they pocketed about 90% of the money right out of the gate and used the leftovers to hire a couple of undergrads from Bangalore to put up the finished product.

In either case such a misuse of public funds used to be big news in this country and those responsible for it used to be criminally prosecuted or at the very least hounded from office.

Then again government malfeasance resulting in death isn't news any more either so why should embezzlement be such a big deal?

Their coach just said that was enough and that was the ball game. We did the quick handshake thing and everyone grabbed their stuff and left the gym. It probably helped that it was a tourney and so neither team had fans there, but in all honesty I don't think anyone felt good afterward except for the fact it was a W and we advanced (we later lost in the championship game), that's not really what competitive sports are about. So while no, I don't think such beatings are bullying I'm a little surprised it goes on as pervasively as it does.

310 303 Carving out a new state consisting of DC, Arlington (VA), Fairfax (VA), Montgomery (MD) and Prince Georges (MD) counties would solve a lot of problems. The left would get their DC statehood, and the cancer of leftism would be excised from MD and Virginia.

Posted by: Gregory of Yardale at October 23, 2013 09:25 AM (QXlbZ)

Better solution since we are doing an amendment to do that.

1. Move the Capitol to a central State.

2. Forbid any permanent residence in the capitol.

3.  Take all the mentioned counties and DC and make them part of MD.

Legislation by judicial fiat, which he champions if it makes as much as one gay person happy, is not "conservative", at least not in an American definition.  Probably not in a European one, either.

319 Wish me luck and strength. IÂ’m leaving to go visit Paul for the first time since he had all the infections. IÂ’m afraid IÂ’m going to show the horror on my face when I see that my younger brother is a quadriplegic, rather than the 6 ft 4 inch tall tower he was. Please say a prayer that IÂ’m strong. I am very strong, I death with my mother having AlzheimerÂ’s & the nursing homes (two) for six years. My older brother would visit more than I did but I did all the talking to doctors, nurses and was her legal guardian. I was very good at it. I was the best legal guardian she could have. I did everything I could think of to keep my mother amused and happy too. She lost interest in television and things. The only thing she still liked was music. I learned how to use iTunes for her and spent hundreds of dollars buying old songs & burning to CDs for her. I also bought her a home entertainment center for her room, the only thing we brought to her was the stereo, I had five CDs in there so that music was playing in her room 24/7. Thank you.

I think looking at this as a North/South issue is a mistake.  Think more in terms of the "Jesusland" map that Michael Moore pushed.  Maybe extend it to include the province of Alberta and maybe a couple of the northern Mexican states.

329 You've probably left, Carol. I am praying for you and your brother: Ever-present God you walk with us through good times and bad, mountain top and valley deep, your footsteps our guide, hands our support. Ever-present God you are close to us when life is smooth or rough, in wholeness and brokenness, your healing our hope, your touch our desire. Ever-present God bring comfort and peace and the warmth of your presence and I shall fear no thing, for you are with me, always.

331 300,000 lose insurance in Florida,  800,000 in Jersey!! Turn on your local news tonight instead of the Fox national broadcast. Are the alphabet affiliates reporting this? With disastrous numbers like this, you'd think that uproar and sheer panic would be sweeping the country.  Its not, the comatose zombies are not getting the news or simply chose to bury their heads in their ass. LiV's run this country fueled on sheer ignorance and an unwillingness to admit they were wrong.

332 First I have to turn my computer off if I have any hope of getting to Maine today. I had bag packed from June and left if for trip I was going to make in August. I didnÂ’t make either trip for reasons, one was he was sent to the ER just as I was about to leave here in June and in August I was going for a meeting on his treatment. Then he called day before to say we can move him here. IÂ’m having a hard time finding a place to transfer Paul to. I initially thought rehab but itÂ’s more like long term care, as in skilled nursing facility. I would like him to be transferred to second one my mother was in. They were ver good and I only had one temper tantrum in four + years.

333 Would there really be another Civil War? --- I think yes. I doubt Freedom Land would be willing to assume the debt of Commie Land and Commie Land could never pay that debt. Further, what of military installations and public land resources. I doubt Commie Land would be willing to give up the oil and oil shale resources, for example.

334 6 Looks like Obamacare is going to SCOTUS once again. http://tinyurl.com/mkgonqy Posted by: Vic at October 23, 2013 06:54 AM (zZbNF) Some moron posted a very smart comment back in July about exactly this. "It will not manifest against the federal government. It will be faceless class action lawsuits aimed at any corporation that does not comply. As it should be. You aren't being harmed by the governments non-enforcement. You are being harmed by your employer's non-compliance. There will be so many lawsuits for non-compliance that it will blot out the sun, it will be impossible to single one out. That's what Obumbles missed in law school apparently. If you violate a law that results in personal or monetary injury, your civil liability is separate from your punitive liability."

Carol -- passing strength through the USB ports.

One really odd/good trick I found when caring for my parents, one of whom was paralyzed by a stroke, was Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.  Neither was musical, but for some reason it helped their focus and calmed them.  Mozart and Haydn are others that work well in the calm and focus, whether for the patient or caregivers I am not quite sure, but they worked so well it was surprising -- well-known 'Mozart Effect' notwithstanding.

All I can say is, thanks goodness Obama stuck to nebulous jobs in the public sector like community organizing and didn't attempt to become, say, an engineer. Otherwise there would be a whole bunch of of bridges based off his blueprints collapsing somewhere. (Though the collapse of our way of life and economy IS equally devastating, obviously.)
