Two hour delay for the little tax exemptions this morning.....only school system in the area that is not closed outright.

There's just nothing more entertaining than watching inexperienced teen drivers trying to negotiate a tricky curved sloping road on their way to school when it's covered with snow, and slush. There should be a few fender benders this morning.

6 Well, my insurance, which was not great to begin with but was relatively cheap and covered much of what I want and need, is now $225 more per month with a $5,500 deductible. Thank you, Fabian Socialism. (However, I still think Fabian is dreamy)

BS, there are well over 150M with employer health care and unless congress amends the law ALL of them will lose their insurance. Why you ask? Because every healthcare plan in the country has has some change to either their coverage or their rates.

19 Regarding that Williamson comment, it astounds me how leftist can go from outcome based arguments to process based arguments in the same sentence, using each whenever it benefits their side. To wit: the job market under Obama is doing horribly because those damn republicans just get in his way. Despite that he has led to the stock market booming to over 16000. The economy under Clinton was fantastic and he deserves all the credit for it and balancing the budget. Saint Reagan quadrupled the deficit and his economy was all about increasing inequality, a legacy that still haunts us today. All use different forms of logic to arrive at the same conclusion, Democrats are great and Republicans suck. Both will be deployed as needed to come to their already formed conclusion.

25 I'm listening the podcast from last week. Gabe and Co. is all over the place. The statement that a 'child tax credit' isn't conservative because the government shouldn't be picking winners and losers, was preceded not 15 minutes before by the argument that we need to 'keep' some of JEFCare like the stay on insurance until 26 and 'everyone can get health insurance'. Clearly, more requirements of the over-regulated insurance industry is 'conservative', while letting people keep more of their money isn't. I'm well aware of the context that the term 'breeders' is used in the gay community, Gabe. You should be taken to task for your use of it.

Answer: What on earth do you mean by Â“socialized medicineÂ”? If you mean single-payer, then your premises are, as seems to be the developing trend here, wrong. The longest-lived countries are Japan and Switzerland, neither of which is single-payer. Counterquestion: If socialized medicine is great, how come people on Medicaid have some terrible health outcomes?

5) If you support the freedom of religion (as per our Constitution), and my church recognizes gay marriage, isnÂ’t your support for the banning of same-sex marriage an attack on my religionÂ’s First Amendment rights?

Answer: No, your church can believe what it wants. The question is the legal status of same-sex relationships. Counterquestion: The Church of Kevin says nobody should ever have to pay more than 10 percent in taxes -- is the IRS violating my First Amendment rights?

6) WhatÂ’s more realistic? 1) That an entire region of the United States that supported slavery in the late-1800′s and support segregation in the 1950′s and 60′s suddenly stopped being racist, or 2) The racist southern Democrats in the south became Republicans during the 50′s and 60′s when the Republican party shifted toward an idea called the Â“Southern Strategy,Â” where the GOP appealed to the racism in southern whites who didnÂ’t like African Americans voting for Democrats.

Answer: False premise. Southern voters in the main did not become Republicans until the 1990s, as shown by Southern congressional delegations, state governments, etc. In presidential elections, Southern states voted overwhelmingly for Republicans such as Nixon and Reagan, but then so did Vermont. The Southern congressional caucus was Democratic until 1994; Mississippi had one Republican governor in all the 20th century, and that not until 1994, which seems like a long time to wait to punish Democrats for partially supporting a Republican civil-rights bill in 1965.

7) If taxes are at some of their lowest levels in history, and the wealthiest in this country are richer than ever, why hasnÂ’t the growth in the wealth of the middle class matched that of the top 2%?

Answer: Because in a world of globally integrated markets returns to skill and entrepreneurial success at the high end of the market are very large, while pressure on moderate-to-low-skill wages is very strong. Wealthy Americans are getting wealthier for the same reason that wealthy Swedes are getting wealthier, despite having a very different tax code.

If our Founding Fathers wanted this nation to be based on Christianity, why donÂ’t the words Â“ChristianÂ” or Â“ChristianityÂ” appear even once in our Constitution?

Answer: They expected the republic to continue as part of Christian civilization, not to have a U.S. version of the Church of England. India has a secular constitution, but nobody seems to much doubt that it is a Hindu country, in spite of the presence of non-Hindu minorities.

9) If a Republican president reduced massive job losses in the midst of the worst recession in nearly a century by more than 50% in his first 4 months in office; presided over 44 consecutive months of private-sector job growth creating nearly 8 million jobs; killed Osama bin Ladin; saw stock markets reach all-time highs; saved the American auto industry; increased domestic oil production to highs not seen since the late-90′s and championed the largest year-to-year deficit reductions since World War II, would your party not be calling him a hero and a legend?

Answer: Since when did you guys start loving the stock market, which contributes so much to the inequality youÂ’re so worried about in No. 7? Counterquestion: If a Republican presidentÂ’s term coincided with the lowest workforce-participation rate in recent history, an illegal war in Libya, and the illegal assassination of U.S. citizens based on their Facebook histories, would you not call him . . . something less than heroic?

10. If Jesus spent his life helping the poor and the needy, how does it make sense that a party which claims to be for Â“Christian valuesÂ” continues to cut funding for programs that help the poor and the needy?

Answer: Let me help you out here: Jesus commanded his followers to feed the hungry and clothe the naked. He did not command them to petition Caesar to seize their neighborsÂ’ assets and to use them to feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Also, youÂ’re begging the question: If you compare money spent to changes in the poverty rate, there is little or no evidence that these programs actually Â“help the poor and the needy.Â” They do create a lot of full-time jobs and vote banks for Democrats. By their fruit shall ye know them.

CONCLUSION: Whoever wrote this questionnaire, which is in fact no so much a questionnaire as a litany of banalities, is not very bright and should be kept far from the levers of political power.

To them, tens of millions of Americans unemployed is acceptable as long as businesses do not create a profit.

.That's not inflation, that is the Dollar being devalued. It amounts to the same thing, but the intentional devaluation of the dollar is a hidden tax of people who actually save money.

Golfman gave me a rec on Mercury which I liked for a while but then it went hinky on me (it was probably because I didn't know to reboot my iPhone at the time, which obviously I've subsequently learned) and I went back to using Safari which seemed fine for what I wanted.

In 1963, Burt Lancaster starred in The Leopard, a movie based on the immensely popular novel of the same name by Italian author Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Lancaster played Don Fabrizio, a 19th century Sicilian nobleman caught up in the revolutionary fervor of the Italian Risorgimento. His co-star was the beautiful Claudia Cardinale as Angelica, the mayorÂ’s daughter.

The film was shot on location in Sicily and was visually sumptuous, much more than most of LancasterÂ’s pictures. The star was proud of the movie and his role, and one day went to see the movie in a public theater.

Williamson runs a bit loose with the truth. If neither Ike nor Clinton can be credited with balanced budgets, then Barack Obama can't be pilloried for the current deficit. You can't have it both ways.

The fact is, the president and the congress are supposed to work together to write and approve a Budget - something that hasn't been done in any of Obama's years. Why? Because he doesn't WANT a budget. A budget wouldn't allow King Obama to rule by decree.

Clinton was horrible in a lot of ways, and he's a liar's liar, but compared to Obama he is a Churchillian Statesman. And Ike? Ike is arguably one of the five greatest president this nation has ever had. You'd better believe that Ike balanced the budget - because there WAS a budget, and he got Congress to agree with him.

that's called Leadership. I mention this because we haven't seen it in something like 10 or 20 years now...

144 Man if I could get donations every time someone said something derogatory towards me I'd be rich as hell. Yup, me too. I was bullied for being Asian growing up in White suburbia. (Though not as badly as my older sister). Comments like "Remember Pearl Harbor!" And the obligatory "Chinese, Japanese, Dirty knees...", squinty eyes etc. My parents didn't sue anyone or go marching up to the school,. They expected us ignore it and just to deal with it. Although, my dad did suggest we say "Remember Nagasaki and Hiroshima!" when taunted about Pearl Harbor.) I made it just fine. Some of the most racist comments I encountered were directed at me by little, kids at the inner city mission my parents volunteered weekly. (The Helping Hand Mission in Philly). We went every Sunday for 8 years.

In any case, at the risk of courting the banning: Gabe often seems to be the one issue type person around here. I'm generally fine with one issue people, a few of them in the mix help keep us focused. Except Gabe's one issue is a) personal (which is always dangerous when something gets to close to home and b) arguably not really conservative. Frankly, I'm not sure what it is, socially liberal? Maybe Libertarian? But it doesn't advance the cause IMHO, at best it moves it sideways. So in this case "One issue" people are utterly unhelpful. That and I remember a podcast where Gabe went "Well I was just talking to someone from State..." in that attempting a casual namedrop type thing. The DC machine has eaten him, he's doing what all DC people do, casually dropping their connections as if it matters. Once the machine gets you, it's over, you're done, it'll chew you up and spit you out as something utterly not conservative. Part of the reason the wife and I decided to turn down any offers for her to move to DC. It'd be a good career move (and there'd be more work there for me) but we don't want to become that. (Plus the schools suck, the cost of living is remarkably high, but mostly that first part.)

They had the statement from the credit card company showing the card had been charged the meal price plus tip, matching what they had on their copy of the receipt. Managers have to enter the amount of the tip written in the tip line, and reconcile it on their computer screen in the POS system. That is evident from the computerized receipt. That's how the server gets paid the tip. Since management entered in the tip and it was charged, it's obvious that the receipt is a copy printed afterward. Management is digging a hole if they protect this server, and leaving themselves open to a lawsuit, since they said they have NO idea how that tip got on there. The manager is probably the server's girlfriend.

But school class time is limited. And public education hardly has "researching information" as the purpose while babysitting and indoctrinating students. And at this point, even were validating research the case, students/parents would not embrace the ideals of learning. Today's typical American, regardless of economic strata, does not want to deal with their children's educations after long hours at work, and trying to deal with making dinner at home. And then there are the brainfarts who can't see past the profit; if knowledge doesn't provide an immediate profit, ax it. Leaving education to the politicians is exactly staying stuck on stupid.
