Happy Tuesday.

Early post this morning, so I can get over to my polling place before work. Not that I expect it to be crowded. I don't think I've seen a single prediciton that this will be a high-turnout election, and recent ad moves by the Democrats are specifically intended to keep voters home.

The post-mortems started early this year. Here's one that follows Mark Levin's lead and blames everything on Karl Rove -- oddly for the reason that Rove hasn't been enough involved in the election. Interesting to see conservatives start demanding Rove's intercession, though. Here's one at Red State blaming Cuccinelli.

In Chris Christie-related news, Chris Matthews loses his temper when one of his guests turns out to be hackier than him.

A mega-analysis of Obamacare's effects finds that it will increase premiums on the individual market by 41% across 49 states. Oh, and that most subsidies will end up going to those nearing retirement.

Anyway, I'm off to hold my nose and vote.

3 Gabe, you miss the point entirely. Rove and the rest of the GOP establishment actually want Cuccinelli to lose. THAT is the problem. They are merely a wing of the Democrat/Socialist party.

15 Ken Cuccinelli was at the sharp end of the spear in the original legal battle against O-care and won his case. There is absolutely ZERO support for him from any of the GOP establishment. That just speaks volumes about what the GOP is and what we are all up against. The Democrats are easy to beat if we had even marginally conservative candidates. It's the GOP that kills us every time. Take it back or take it down. Either/or.

28 Virginia governorship has been overwhelmingly Democrat.

Virginia governors since the Civil War: Dem 31, Rep 8

Since 1980: Dem 5, Rep 3

A Macaw win would suck. But it wouldn't exactly be shocking.

29 Bolling give a speach to the Greater Reston Republican Club when I lived in NoVA. Well spoken. Good man. He had already stepped aside once to let a better candidate run for Gov. He just is not as conservative as VA needs at the moment. That group of outnumbered Republicans in Northern VA preferred Cuccinelli, as he was a fighter, very sharp, usually successful, and better for VA.

30 MSM headlines re: Virginia race tomorrow: Voters Choose Gun Control This despite the fact that Republicans will still retain 60+ seats in the house of delegates. The idea is to try and tell the majority of Virginians that they chose gun control by electing McAullife. It's the same argument they've used about taxes and Obamacare at the national level post-2012 Orcafail. They will also say that Virginia Embraces Obamacare and Medicaid Expansion.

32 From NumbersUSA, Chris Christie just flipped on in state tuition for illegals. Since he'll definitely win, I'm going to vote for the libertarian for governor. Christie is great for NJ and would make a great NJ senator but the guy is a huge jackass and a political oppurtunist extraordinaire who would be a disaster for Republicans and conservatives nationally. 33 "If you like your insurance, you get to keep it" has now become "if you like your insurance AND IT HASN'T CHANGED BEFORE THE ACA BECAME LAW you can keep it." This is just unmitigated temerity and an even bigger lie than the original, if that is possible. Fucking momzer.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at November 05, 2013 03:06 AM (uf1pv)

39 Let me add that the media assault to come in Virginia will also be designed to try and convince the Republicans in the state house that they lose elections because of support for gun rights and opposition to Obamacare. And given how shaky we know some of these folks are (witness the shutdown), there wil be many who will believe it and this change their votes. Then, they will get removed by their constituents.

He said he would tell the states that he would more the states to require all people to be insured and that pre-existing conditions must be covered. Ho-lee-shit. 57 o/t: I finally 'did the math' on last nights thread about the pedophile sting which captured 1,000 names. I added the populations of the countries listed and came out with a rate of 1 per 658,000 people. Probably closer to 1 out of 1,000,000 but the names of the other countries were not available. In the range of the odds of winning a PowerBall jackpot. Yet, if I look at a 'predator map' of my five mile general area I would find hundreds of dots. I think there are a couple reasons. One is 'indecent exposure' charges 'cause men do that kinda stuff. Two is divorces with custody battles. First card pulled from the bottom of the deck to deny men access to their children. My general idea is that women want it to appear that there are more pedophiles then in reality so that a charge against husband in divorce case isn't immediately scoffed at based on sheer statistical probability alone.

95 I'm through with Mitt. After seeing him on Sunday talking about the need to 'fix' ObamaCare I just want him to go back home and write his memoirs, not take the starring role in some 'Blue Ribbon' commission to fix something that needs to be abolished. A guy who made hundreds of millions of dollars by way of the free market can assuage his guilt by giving it all away, not participate in fixing some scheme which will radically and negatively alter the health care system of this country, forever.

Posted by: Gregory of Yardale at November 05, 2013 07:49 AM (QXlbZ) One small detail: The NEA is not a union. They are merely a lobbying group that teachers can join voluntarily. Most state have a branch of the organization in them. The same with the American Federation of Teachers. They only have any influence because they have the coffers to threaten to sue school districts. Most districts don't have the money to fight them, so they cave. I know this is a minor distinction, but they have no real authority.

Regarding  the prevalence of pedophilia, I'm not sure what the discussion  was last night, but the number of cases reported is vastly dwarfed by the number of actual incidents.

As it is with most "sex" crimes.

Now, if there are estimates out there that exaggerate the number, that's different, but the thing you have to remember is, man is a predatory animal.  The difference between us and other predators is our cerebral cortex, and if something goes wrong up there, almost any kind of depravity is possible.

We have many many many among us who have something wrong with their cerebral cortex.  It takes different forms, but needless to say, the urge to rut is in there for all of us, it's only a question  of whether we control that urge or not.

269 I'm sittin' out today's election. For one thing, there is no election in my little MA town. The city next door has two wacko-libs running for mayor, and a whole bunch people wanting city council gigs, but that doesn't affect us.

Nearest Electoral Funneh is in Baaah-stin, where two liberal Irish Democrats are running for mayor. Everyone wants to see which one can spend the most.

(Parenthetically, if I was writing a novel about the place, I'd definitely name my mayor "Martin J. Walsh." Sounds perfect.)

Maybe I'll go up the road a mile or two and visit ol' Ben "Beast" Butler's former home today. He was probably the most famous dude to live here, at least until Vermin Supreme came along.

273 Elisabeth Horst, Artist Training I studied philosophy at Yale, psychology at the University of Minnesota, and in addition have trained in Reiki, yoga instruction, and shiatsu. As for artÂ… I taught myself to knit at the age of seven, designed and made my own clothes in high school, stitched a quilt while writing my senior essay in college. Fiber art has always been what I do when I am not required to be doing something else (and sometimes when I am). I began to sell my handwoven scarves at art fairs and farmers markets in 2002, and in 2003 closed my psychology practice to make art full time. Statement Focusing my academic and formal training on the healing of the bodysoul taught me a great deal about what it means to be human and allowed me to develop a joyful, whole, and distinctive artistic voice. Making art in a medium which is often dismissed or overlooked by the academy gave me space to learn my craft and create my studio practice far away from the analytic and critical world of degrees and certifications. I have been free to define my own standards of color harmony, to pursue honesty and balance in the work by observing the world directly, and to avoid being pulled off-center by the need to locate my work in a particular tradition. Current Work Since 2012 I have been focusing on hand-dyeing fabric. I use a range of techniques to create airy patchworky scarves reminiscent of stained glass, and pants that rely on a traditional silhouette from India. In 2013 I became 1/3 of Saddhu Textiles, an energetic and artistic collaboration that began with a yoga retreat in India and has continued to become a calm haven for the design and production of fine hand-dyed functional fabric art. I currently live in Albuquerque, NM, with my husband, the painter Mark Horst. http://goo.gl/3O2KFR

"Hell, no, President Historic First© would NEVER lie, funnel guns to Mexican druggies, abandon an Ambassador who's in real danger, lie, support his Muzzie terrorist pals at the expense of our real allies, destroy our economy, lie or run off to campaign/raise money in a crisis. Nuh-uh. Never. People who disagree are just H8ters and birfers!"

Well, I got news for ya, ol' Moo Moo. The Chicago Jesus did all those things, and more. So fuck him and all his enablers and starry-eyed worshipers. The problem is not that people say those things, but rather that he did them. People let him do it, and that's a problem, too.

I agree!  Ask all you want, but there is no requirement for disclosure here (Wait - is EoJ and NSA mole?  Hmmm - explains a lot that does!)

And far be it for me to complain about snark!  Now, can I supply you with your carping needs?  Perhaps a new cavil?

334 Normally, I'd say, asking for whom one voted is like asking if a woman is pregnant. One ought ask only if the possibility is already being heavily teased about. Which it is.

338 Hillary will run. And I predict she will win. Unless the Tea Party stops dicking around and makes the break from the GOP and run a strong candidate who is trained in debate. Which ain't gonna happen yet. We're still trying to play nice.

339 Can somebody tell me where anywhere the GOP is actively trying to move voters to agree with their ideas rather than moving left to court voters who don't naturally agree with them?

Excerpt from Obama's speech 5 days prior to the Obamacide rollout:

"And so today, I want to speak plainly, clearly, honestly, about what it means for you and for the people you care about. Now, letÂ’s start with the fact that even before the Affordable Care Act fully takes effect, about 85 percent of Americans already have health insurance -– either through their job, or through Medicare, or through the individual market.  So if youÂ’re one of these folks, itÂ’s reasonable that you might worry whether health care reform is going to create changes that are a problem for you — especially when youÂ’re bombarded with all sorts of fear-mongering.

So the first thing you need to know is this:  If you already have health care, you donÂ’t have to do anything."

348 One of the stupid questions on the ballot here in NJ is the raising of the minimum wage to $8.25 with an annual cost of living increase. Leaving fot eh polling place to vote NO and place a vote for Crispy. In this state, he's the best we can do. We have absorbed so many Noo Yawkers over the last 40 plus years, the state now reflects their political views. I've lived here for all of my 66 years, and I stopped recognizing the place quite some time ago. Sad.

350 How could anyone critique Rove? His Bush branding destroyed the Republican Party. He blew hundreds of millions with Romney. He attacks conservatives more than Dems. Why, when I read Malor's pieces, do I get the same vibe as the scrunt who was calling Card a monster a few posts below? They carry a whiff of Andrew Sullivan.

"Anyway, I'm off to hold my nose and vote."

The hell of it is, Gabe, is that I'm not sure who you're going to vote for. You're being disingenuous about Levin, though. What Levin is claiming isn't that Rove isn't involved enough in promoting the Republican the Virginia race; it's that Rove (and the GOP Establishment) are actively attempting to undermine Cuccinelli (however his name is spelled). Those are two entirely different propositions and no amount of semantic dancing can blur the distinction.

If Mark Levin, Jeffrey Lord and others are right, the moderate wing of the GOP, those we call the GOP Establishment, is more or less actively colluding with Democrats to squash Tea Party/conservative Republican candidacies.

I've been a faithful, straight-ticket voting, Party of Lincoln Republican for many years now. If I'm having serious misgivings about supporting the GOP because of its now-overt hostility to the conservative base, I can only imagine the ramifications for the midterms if my misgivings are shared on a nationwide basis. So yeah, keep it up, but know that scorn, condescension, and contempt are not the basis of a strong, big-tent coaltition, and invite a third party split.
