We can haz morning thread?

The sign language interpreter at the Mandela memorial service claims he was having a schizophrenic episode.

Rich Lowry on the left's reality problem.

Paul Ryan on the House GOP leadership's reality problem.

Contra Ryan's claims in the piece linked above, Sean Davis writes at The Federalist: DonÂ’t Be Fooled: The Murray/Ryan Budget Deal Clearly Raises Taxes. Davis has the better argument, and I'm in thorough agreement with his conclusion:

Had top Republicans pitched this deal as the best way to avoid blame for another shutdown (even it the shutdown was solely the fault of Democrats who refused to abide by the sequestration law President Obama signed in 2011), I would have been somewhat sympathetic. I still wouldnÂ’t like the deal, but that rationale would at least have the benefit of being intellectually honest.

But Ryan and his allies in GOP leadership need to stop insulting the intelligence of their voters by expecting them to suddenly forget the meanings of certain words. GOP leaders have a serious and widening credibility gap with their base. Dishonest, Orwellian word games are only going to make matters worse.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, December 12, 2013.  On this date in 2000 the Supreme Court issued its decision in Bush v Gore.  Gore is the one who actually started the court crap in an effort to steal the election.  But after SCOTUS ruled no more recounts and issued the remedial action liberal heads all over the country exploded.  For one brief moment in history the Republicans refused to let the Democrats steal an election.

4 Republicans are going to put the big stall on Obama nominee confirmations.  Pay no attention to the "non-controversial" statement in this mostly AP article.  Obama has not made any nomination since he has been in office that is not a radical leftist in one form or another. He has publicly stated that it is his intention to "remake" the courts (i.e drive then further left than they already are).

Hahahhaaha, the government has invented a new word for corruption.

A simple “misunderstanding” allowed Google’s top executives to pay between $3.3 and $5.3 million less than market price for fuel to fly a fleet of private jets on both scientific missions and flights to some of the world’s most exclusive beaches.

This "misunderstanding" allowed Google to cheat CA out of millions in taxes.  Another "what if" this had happened under Bush and this was Halliburton instead of liberal Google.

Also note what happened when charged.  He was first put on leave without pay and then fired.  And recall all the times a Dem was similarly charged.  First no affiliation would be mentioned, much less in the first paragraph.  Then the staffer would keep his job with the Dems citing that he deserved his "day in court" before any punitive action was taken.

Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan defended his budget deal from a skeptical Sean Hannity Wednesday night, echoing President Barack Obama mantra by saying that “elections have consequences” and Republicans have lost too many of them.

Frankly, I'm tired of this shit talking point about how "elections have consequences" and the Republicans aren't in power, etc etc.

It's wrong.  Republicans ARE in power.  They control the House of Representatives.  You know, the body from which all spending bills must originate?  The People's House?

Our Establishment Betters are trying to say they have to come up with a budget that will pass the Senate.  Why isn't the focus on making the Senate abide by a budget that is acceptable to the House?  Hell, the GOP was elected to lead the House after watching Democrats go on a fucking spending spree, so don't give me that whole "elections have consequences" rap...why didn't THAT election have consequences for the Democrats?!?

We already know the answer...the Establishment is more interested in feathering their own nests than paying attention to the conservatives.  Sad that Paul Ryan apparently cast his lot with those mothershitting fucks.

121 Okay - again I'm really struggling with this user fee argument. Ryan said the fee right now is split between the passenger (who pays 40%) and the taxpayer (who pays 60%). Ryan said they flipped that so that the passenger is paying 60% and the taxpayer is paying 40%... thus putting more of the cost to the person actually flying rather than the person sitting at home. The cost per TSA screen is not going up, it's just being burdened by the person actually flying rather than the guy sitting at home.. I don't agree that's a "tax increase" at all unless I'm really missing something on that. Now - the TSA and the idea of the TSA - fuck that noise.

126 I was watching Love and Death with Woody Allen. There was a beautiful countess that seduces him. She looked familiar so I looked her up. She was in the original Day of the Jackal. She played the pretty young girl mourning her fiance killed in Algeria who seduces the minister to get inside info on DeGaulle. Unfortuately, in real life she became depressed and jumped out the window of her flat on the Seine in Paris. Capucine was another favorite actress of mine. She too became depressed and jumped out the window but in Switzerland. Then there was Jean Seberg who took a bunch of pills in a car parked in Paris. Took them 20 days to notice her. And no, she wasn't blacklisted. Nor was Jane Fonda. If they didn't get as many job offers it was because they were pains in the ass. Show business is about image and if your image is about being an America hating radical, people won't see the flicks. Today, America hating is mandatory in Hwd though the America hating films don't do very well. Off track here. My point was that being an european actress has its dangers...

A Firm Step Forward By Paul Ryan

First, letÂ’s remember how we got here: In 2011, President Obama signed into law the Budget Control Act. ... Unfortunately, the committee couldnÂ’t come to an agreement. And this year, the sequester took effect.

This act apparently just appeared on Obama's desk by magic without any Republican participation.

They didn't vote for it, they didn't write it, they didn't select the committee members.  It was some wild Harry Potter shit that just happened.

133 Vic, I got a nice diploma on the wall at home that says so.  Most of what the public has been taught for the last 50 years about nutrition is dead wrong.  Limiting salt intake has no effect on BP for over 85% of the population, and a low sodium diet may actually INCREASE the risk of heart disease.  So, yeah, if your kidneys are healthy, go nuts with the sea salt (table salt is sh*t and is unhealthy) and don't fear the natural fats, though I would say enjoy them in moderation.

I knew about the salt.  Evem 7 years ago when I did all research there was a high debate on the salt issue.  I ran a test where I took my blood pressure hourly and ate salty potato chips all day. - No impact, so I haven't worried about salt.

But I take pravastatin and my Dr religiously checks for cholesterol levels among other things.

He cut my pravastatin to 40 mg.day from 80, should I check to see if I can get rid of it all together?

140 From a Christian based counselling center Question: I dread Christmas. All anyone thinks about is how many presents they're getting and how much they cost. I'm a guy who doesn't have much to give my wife and kids, and so I feel like such a loser. Can you help me? Answer: 1. TIME: There is only so much of you to go around. Rethink who you donate you to, perhaps cutting back here or there so as to be able to take your wife out for a walk and a talk, to show up at your daughter's school play, or to just stay home, rent a video, and enjoy each other's company. 2. EMPATHY: Instead of getting defensive when your wife or child tells you their angry or hurt feelings, work hard to listen intently to how they are feeling, summarizing what they said and felt to make sure you got it right. Whether it be your wife arguing for a new kitchen table or your teenage son for a later curfew, put yourself in their shoes before trying to give your knee-jerk reaction. Whether you end up buying the table or bending on the curfew, your wife and son will know you care enough to listen. 3. PATIENCE: Waiting without blowing your top while your preschool daughter ties her shoes before you take her to daycare helps her to develop autonomy and you to develop tolerance for life's ups and downs. Your lower blood pressure will mean less arguments at home, less stress on the job, and more happiness for you. 4. SMILE: Instead of being grumpy, cynical, and an old grouch, try forcing yourself to smile a little bit each day. Amazingly, you will find that it is somewhat contagious, your wife and children exchanging their sad frowns for a happy face, and you yourself reframing what you thought was "a disastrous problem" into "a challenging opportunity." Gradually, you will be turning your family into optimists and problem solvers, for which all of us will thank you. So, my advice is that you stop worrying about what you can not buy, and start thinking about how you impact on your family, more so than any teacher, peer, movie, or book will ever touch them. You have the ability to give them the priceless gift of yourself, which you will not find at Macy's or Penney's, nor even at the North Pole, just under your own nose.

141 If they wanted a wedding cake they could have just ordered a wedding cake. They didn't have to ask for a man and a man on top they could have bought it themselves and put it on. It is the new trend among that crowd.  They seek out Christian establishments and make sure to let them know they are gay and ask for gay things, then instigate lawfare in an effort to bankrupt them and shut them down.

Posted by: Dr. Jesse Pinkman at December 12, 2013 09:05 AM (h4eud) What's sick is, all of these self-named "groups" will make others angry towards them for the very antics they are pulling. It's not racist, or homophobic or whatever. It's more like anti-assholes. So, in trying to be "so tolerant" and "diverse" and pushing an agenda, they are simply making it worse. I don't think radicalism always gets one where they want to be. Nor, edge it along. Sometimes it just reverses and good will, and more damage is done as a result. pancake time

182 Catchers blocking home plate - leads to violent collisions, and there is far too much violence in American culture already. Intentionally hitting batters - see above. And possibly rayciss too, depending on the races of the pitcher and the hitter. Trying to break up double plays - isn't a single play enough? Why should these one percenters be permitted to get greedy and take out two runners? One of those bases should be redistributed to the team that's losing, so there are no hard feelings. Don't laugh. Look what they're doing to Football.

Acting on one of the kindle daily deals that was posted by Vic a few days ago, I got the Exorcist for @1.99.

I loved the film, but the book has some parts that are far more scary.

A quote that stood out for me is when Father Karras first encounters the possessed Regan, and the demon in her tries to get Karras to unbind her/it. When Karras said if you are the Devil, why don't you make the straps disappear.

It said to him  "Come, that is much too vulgar a display of power. After all, I am a prince! 'The Prince of This World', as some strange person said of me once. Can't quite remember who. I much prefer persuasion Karras, togetherness, community involvement. Moreover, if I losen the staps myself, I deny you the opportunity of performing a charitable act."

I found that section to be disturbingly prescient and parallel to what I see in real life today. And people say that real horror is dead.....
