Happy Tuesday.

The world's most generous nation, according to a global index of giving, is the United States. "A higher proportion of Americans helped a stranger than any other country in the world."

WaPo front page, above the fold: "Health-care enrollment on Web plagued by bugs." "The errors cumulatively have affected roughly one-third of the people who have signed up for health plans since Oct. 1."

The NY commuter train that derailed Sunday, killing 4 and injuring dozens, was going 82 mph as it entered a 30 mph curve. "A freight train derailed in the same place in July."

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, December 03, 2013.  On this day in 1960 the musical Camelot opened on Broadway.  And no, it had nothing to do with the Kennedy administration.  That little bit of word associated was invented by the sycophant press (Theodore White) at the urging of Jackie Kennedy after the assassination.

2 Fox asks if the Obamanite last claim about Obamacide is true.

Is President Obama’s latest health care promise – that his plan will offer “most” people a better plan for the same price or less than their current policy – actually true?

Then they provide the most mealy-mouthed rebuttal I have seen in a long time.

No it is an outright lie.  Why can't they just say that?

7 The Supreme Court refused to hear the Liberty University civil suit against Obamacide forcing them to provide free contraceptives.  That means at least one of the so-called "conservative" judges sold us out, as well as the floating judge.  If 4 justices agree to hear the case it will be granted cert.  It wasn't.   Face it folks, the Supreme Court will not rule against this unconstitutional POS law. The 4 liberal justices will never rule against anything the Democrats want and it appears the 4 conservative justices are turning to shit.  The only way we will get this law killed is repeal.  That means taking back the Senate and running a candidate who will win.  And dirty Hairy has set it up for us by getting rid of the filibuster.

25 Kindle Daily Deals

Hey, I went on a book-buying spree yesterday while they had cyber Monday on kindle books.  Bought three books.  The SF offer today looks interesting.  It is one of those post-apocalyptic things but written like Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea.  The daily deal is a trilogy for $1.99 but the first book is available free.  I downloaded it and will skim it when I have time today to see if I want all three.

I have read the first three chapters of the first book and decided for $1.99 it is worth a try.  It does not read like the typical post nuclear holocaust book. I don't know if it is like Hemingway because I have never read Hemingway, the commie loving bastard.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Thanks for the morning updates, Vic.

Around 1925 or so, the writer Frances Marion was walking across the Goldwyn lot to discuss his new picture, The Winning of Barbara Worth.  As she came near his office, she noticed a tall, lanky fellow dressed like a cowboy who was talking through the window to GoldwynÂ’s secretary.  Thinking him a choice piece of beefsteak, she snuck a couple of long looks at him before going into the office.

Goldwyn, it seems, was in a bad mood.  HeÂ’d assembled the cast for Worth, but was still lacking someone to play the part of a cowboy.  “I can get you a young man who wonÂ’t cost much,” Marion told him.  “Who?” asked a skeptical Goldwyn.  “IÂ’ll let you know in five minutes,” Marion assured him.  She went to the outer office, where the lanky fellow was still chatting away.  “Does that young man want to act?” Marion asked her.  “He sure does,” the girl replied.

When Marion escorted the rugged stranger into GoldwynÂ’s office, the producer was dubious.  He asked what the manÂ’s experience was, only to be told, “None.  I was an extra in one – two pictures.”  At that point, Goldwyn was ready to send the fellow packing, but he saw Marion nodding in approval and knew sheÂ’d given him good advice in the past.  “All right, young man.  IÂ’ll take a chance on you.”

It turned out to be an inspired choice.  The novice actor fit right in with the Worth company, which included heavyweights Ronald Colman and Vilma Bànky*, he looked at home in the great outdoors and rode a horse as if born in the saddle.  But his part was a small one and nobody really paid much attention to him when he was off set.  In fact, when the company went on location, the fellow was bunked in a tent with the Chinese cook.

It wasnÂ’t until the movie was released and became a big hit that anyone bothered to remember his name:  Gary Cooper.

HereÂ’s Coop in Worth:

Here’s a picture of Vilma Bànky as she starred in 1925s The Eagle:

http://tinyurl.com/p2bz9tm

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

*Bànky apparently developed a taste for cowboys; she married Western actor Rod LaRocque in 1927, the marriage lasting until LaRocque’s death in 1969.

.

.

.Most states don't tax food sales.  The Commissary charges a 5% surcharge to each customer, so the average customer pays more for most items there.

The prices at the Fort Knox Commissary are about the same as the surrounding area.  I go there every few months to get stuff I can't find in my area.  Often the Commissary will have a sale on some random item and that is where the bargains are.  One time it was dog food.  A 20 bag for 5 dollars, I filled the car up with that one.  They put a steep discount on things for the Holidays also.

As far as the Commissaries closing, I don't think it will happen, but there is a slim chance it might.

131 #128 DG...yes, have dealt with VA. I have ChampVA. It's about the equivalent of the low end of the Bronze Plan tier. Direct healthcare at the VA for a veteran is a mixed bag--sometimes good, sometimes awful. A lot depends on how many veterans there are in your region.

My late father passed away in 1988, he was a WWII vet & always insisted on going to the VA and he was very happy with them. There was a hospital in Jamaica Plain (really a part of Boston, and in Bedford. My father had been in both of those hospitals. My older brother prefers to go to the one in Bedford, instead of the one in Boston. The only reason is that he doesnÂ’t like driving into Boston. I drive to Boston every day and IÂ’m used to it.

Posted by: Carol at December 03, 2013 08:13 AM (z4WKX) For the worst plan (3000 deductible family, nothing except preventative care and birth control pills covered until deductible met), it's a 160% increase over what we pay now (for 1000 deductible and prescriptions have copays). If I want to "upgrade" to a lower deductible, it's a 400% increase. Also, my current doctor does not participate in my ACA mandated new plan. If my husband signs up for VA insurance instead of being on mine, we'll pay the same for just me as we pay now for both of us, but still have a higher deductible and I have to find a new doc. Like I said yesterday, I didn't even think my old plan was super great, but it is a ton better than this ACA approved plan I've been forced into. But hey, I get all the free birth control I can eat now! *rolls eyes*

135 Hell, I don't recall there being that much savings when I was in the Navy over 40 years ago.

I really don't use the commissary very often because it's a twenty minute drive from my house to the base here in Montgomery.  I've started to reconsider though.  This county has a 10% sales tax even on consumable goods.  It's probably worth the drive to avoid the tax.  I didn't realize a tremendous savings at the commissary in past shopping trips.  I feel bad for the people who live in isolated places like Edwards, AFB.  They don't have many shopping options in close proximity.  I did see an interesting proposal for allowing a subsidy for troops and retirees to be applied directly to a retailer under contract with the DoD.

136 One of the ways Hitler co-opted the churches was to fund them.  Ever since, Europeans don't give squat to charity.  If the State is going to take care of everyone, there is no need for charity.

This is my point of contention with the Catholic Bishops.  Charity must be voluntary.  Jesus didn't say "Give Caesar 40% and let him take care of the poor."

138 I notice a big difference in prices at the Commissary. Sometimes it's 50 cents, but sometimes it's a couple of dollars. Anything I check, I see a difference. It's cheaper than Walmart and way cheaper than the other stores. From my latest receipts, butter (same brand) was $3.78 at Walmart vs. $2.50. Even with the 5% and tipping the baggers, it's better. And for a family, the savings add up quickly.

145 DG, one consideration for your husband using the VA is time off from work. You see your doctor through a team/clinic approach. A doctor appointment typically takes up half a day. So depending on your husband's general health and his employment, you may be better off with private insurance. Appointments with a specialist take even longer. My husband was 100% disabled and not employed, so the time factor did not matter to him.

He doesnÂ’t know how to tell the truth. I am horrified for you and know that next year people on employersÂ’ plans are probably going to be a screwed as you. The law should be fully repealed. The only two with the balls to try are Ted Cruz & Mike Lee. 2 out of 100 senators isnÂ’t that hopeful. But there was the IBD editorial from late October that wrote about the costly Medicare benefit that was added on in 1988 or 1989. Senior Citizens went ballistic and the law was repealed the next year, with bipartisan support. If things keep up as they have and there seems like they are only going to be worse, eventually the dems are going to have to do something or be thrown out of office. I know they are afraid of next yearÂ’s wrath. SCOAMF should enroll along with the wife & family and pay for it himself, if itÂ’s so wonderful!

They had to switch our insurance because our old plan didn't cover abortions or BC pills, so it no longer exists. I can't wait to see what kind of a royal mess we'll be screwed with next year. I'm thankful I don't have children. The guys here who have 2+ dependents and wish to stay on a low decuctible ($500/$1500) plan will have to pay 10x more the old cost per month. Ten. Times. More.

164 The navy base north of Memphis is where BUPERS is located. No reason to locate a bunch of personnel, computers and offices on expensive coastal real estate and pay San Diego type housing allowances. Commissaries sometimes have a hard time being relevant in areas with a lot of grocery competition. They sell at cost plus 5% to cover overhead but if there are a lot of grocery stores in the area you're not going to see a huge difference because the margins elsewhere will be thin because of competition. Meat is often a good deal and makes the savings worth it. The exchanges (distinct from the commissaries) are NAF and are often very price competitive, because they will match published sale prices from any other retailer (just bring in your flyer) plus you are not paying tax plus you can shop online if you aren't convenient to a location. They used to be crummy back in the day when they were run by active duty military guys with no retail experience but they have come a long way in recent years. None of which is relevant to the fact that the Pentagon is threatening to close commissaries which again are an entirely different organization from the exchanges, but as the wife of a career military retailer I thought I would give you some handy bonus information.

The left is trying to make BarryCare about a buggy website. This has nothing to do with the website. It's about millions of people getting thrown out of their healthcare plans. It's about the cost of healthcare coverage skyrocketing because of BarryCare.  It's about the government namely the Democrats trying to destroy the existing healthcare system and replace it with a government run one.

Very likely.    But, see,   the SEIU members whine like the biggest g-ddamn toddlers in the entire universe.   They're ALMOST as bad as Obammy.    Almost.

231 We have reached a state of the world where 48,000,000 people follow Katy Perry on Twitter--she is the most followed person on the planet--it's official, the dumbing down is complete. The final irony will be when her fans can no longer afford tickets to her concerts because some meanie pants made them buy health insurance.

232 Going back to the train crash for a moment.
It would seem that in order to hit a 30mph curve, at the end of a 70mph stretch going 82 mph, that the train was already exceeding the higher 70mph speed limit to begin with.

So if there was some malfunction, I'm guessing there are records of the Engineer telling the control station that he can't get the train to maintain the higher 70mph limit and will need help at the station....right?

234 Wait a minute there.  You said Memphis Belle.  So willing to backdate a B-17G to a B-17F?  You are ambitious.

Lets see.  Get rid of the Cheyenne tail turret.  Un-stagger and open the waist windows.  The chin turret gone.  Astro bubble gone.  The nose cheek gun bulges removed and replaced by large square windows flush with the fuselage.

Good luck.

Would it help if you walked the dog while wearing some kind of inflatable suit   that could cushion the weight if   and when you were to accidentally dislodge the model and   find yourself pinned beneath it?

...

Although, if it didn't work, that might be an even more ridiculous headline than "man crushed by model airplane":    "Man wearing inflatable    Goodyear Tire costume crushed by model airplane."

Since all the RINOs were out yesterday complaining about COD, Angle, Akin and Mourdoch in Drew's thread, where do I get to heap on worthless piles of shit like Romney, McCain, Dole, Poppy Bush and other squishy fucks who've made it through the primaries that Prince Reebus has no intention of cleaning up and I end up having to hold my fucking nose and vote for with nary a complaint lest I get called a traitor to the cause? I was told those assholes were "electable"; except they weren't.

259 Oh, I'm certain that it's on purpose. Obama's people certainly didn't have any trouble with advanced networking and messaging technology during the campaign, did they?
