— Gabriel Malor Happy Wednesday.
With the Obamacare website's "backend" yet to be completed, the Obama administration has decided that it will make subsidy payments to insurers based on insurers' estimates of what they're owed. What could go wrong? Also, I seem to have misplaced my section of the ACA that authorizes this.
CNN covered three big questions the Obama administration isn't answering about Obamacare.
The Democrats are having a tough time deciding whether to call it "Obamacare" or not. While they worry their dumb little noggins about what to call it, the families of cancer patients are losing their insurance because of it.
Today the French National Assembly will vote on whether to make prostitution illegal.
Update: Commenter J.J. Sefton reminded me. Today, there will be four House committee hearings on Obamacare. They are:
House Oversight Committee with a panel on "The Roll Out of HealthCare.gov: The Limitations of Big Government."House Energy and Commerce Committee looking at Obamacare changes to Medicare Advantage program.
House Ways and Means Committee has a panel titled "Challenges of the Affordable Care Act."
House Small Business Committee is looking into "business aggregation rules" and how they impact small employers when it comes to health care.
The RNC is still passing around its "Deadline Missed" video and Chairman Priebus was on CNN last night kicking Debbie Wasserman-Shultz's butt up one side of the studio and down the other over her claim that Democrats will be eager to run in 2014 on Obamacare.
Meanwhile, Speaker Boehner's office was pointing out to reporters yesterday that on the very day the Obama administration began its "offensive" on Obamacare, not a single Democrat scheduled a healthcare related event. This was followed by statements to reporters from Boehner, Cantor, and McCarthy on Obamacare (see the video).
The Senate GOP has been a little quiet on Obamacare lately, so I can't point to anything they're specifically doing on it. That's a weak point. Fortunately, GOP hopes to retake the Senate are approaching "This Might Even Happen" levels of optimism thanks to Obamacare.

Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, December 04, 2013. On this day in 2012 we were raging about the BS UN internet treaty that Russia and China sponsored to silence the internet. We were all snug and warm in our beds because the US was firmly against it. Obama signed it on Jan 26 and has been enforcing it ever since despite the fact that the Senate has NEVER passed it. Obama called it an "executive agreement" not subject to Congressional approval.

I see someone else listened to Levin last night. The convention of the states is this Saturday. It's a start.
I hope all the conservative bloggers pummel Boehner and the GOP over this amnesty garbage. Balls to the wall. Nothing terrifies them more than losing their re-elections. Legalizing 40 million Messicans for cheap labor will do it.
Off to the gym. BBL

1) Obama signed the law that provided for the waivers. His admin signed Indiana's application. You want to blame someone, start there.
2) People who don't get expanded Medicaid are directed to the federal exchanges, which according to the TV ads promise "low-cost quality health insurance from name-brand providers." They were also created by the law that Obama signed. Dems bitching about how horrible it is people are expected to partake of Ear Leader's glorious signature achievement would be schadenfreuderiffic if it wasn't so fucking stupid.
3) I've never lived in a state where the self-proclaimed proggs cite Kentucky as a model to aspire to instead of using the word as an epithet.

The Democrats are having a tough time deciding whether to call it "Obamacare" or not.
It's "Obamacare," you worthless shits:
It isn't Affordable,
It doesn't give people better Care
And an Act should be passed by both houses of Congress, not one desperate collection of dishonest shills.
Always call it "Obamacare" whenever the subject comes up.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. And thanks for the morning updates, Vic.
That judge who allowed Obama’s drunkle to stay in the country proclaimed him ‘a man of good moral character.’
**snort** as if any judge would have the stones to ship the bastard back to Kenya. If the GOP were smart (yeah, I know), they could seize on this as another issue in which the dog-eating crackhead has perverted the rule of law – with all the convenient audits and rulings coming from this corrupt administration, how could anyone believe that this particular judge hasn’t been bought off or threatened? “Good moral character,” my hairy yellow butt.
Well, anyway – a couple of weeks back, we were talking about Marilyn Monroe and her intake of mood-altering drugs. I promised a list, and here it is, from Ted Schwarz’s 2009 book Marilyn Revealed: The Ambitious Life of an American Icon:
“Truth? Let’s start with the drugs that Marilyn Monroe is regularly using as she prepares to star in The Misfits. In alphabetical order they are known to consist of at least (there may be others that have not been documented; certainly she liked to raid friends’ medicine cabinets when visiting, taking a little of this or that if she thought it would help her sleep, or be better on the set, or feel good or whatever was going through her mind at the time): Amytal, antihistamines, Benzedrine, champagne, chloral hydrate, codeine, Demerol, Dexamyl, Dexedrine, gin (40 percent alcohol – 80 proof), Librium, methamphetamines, morphine, Nembutal, Percodan, Phenobarbitol, Seconal, sherry, sodium pentathol, sulfathalidine, vermouth and 100 proof (50 percent alcohol) vodka. If all was going well, Marilyn would take a nighttime cocktail consisting of a half tumbler of champagne, a Nembutal capsule opened so the drug would enter her system faster, and a chloral hydrate tablet. When working on her last movie she would sometimes have a dinner that consisted of three ounces of steak, one Librium, one chloral hydrate, one Nembutal, and two glasses of Dom Perignon. In addition, there were methamphetamine shots she received at Twentieth Century-Fox.” (pp. 552-53)
Here she is in 1950s Love Happy, a Marx Brothers film. In his later reminiscences (transcribed in Richard Anobile’s The Marx Brothers Scrapbook), Groucho recalled it as a lousy movie with only Monroe as its sparkle. “Man, I wanted to fuck her. She had the greatest tits.”
You’ve noticed, no doubt, that I generally prefer to tell stories and show pictures of silent movies. Not that I consider them better than talkies (trust me, until you’ve seen Haldane of the Secret Service, you don’t know what bad is), but because I prefer the women of the silent age. The critic Jeanine Basinger – whose writing I highly recommend – called them, not unkindly, ‘pudding faces’ in her book Silent Stars. Which is to say that I’ll take a dozen Pola Negris over any Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz or Nicole Kidman.
I know I’ve posted this picture of the Ziegfeld Follies star Anna Held before, but I post it again as an example – in both physical form and costume – of what I consider a perfect woman:
Of course, as IÂ’ve said before, when youÂ’re a precocious child whoÂ’s read Venus in Furs just when you hit puberty, itÂ’s no surprise if youÂ’re screwed up for the rest of your life.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

I suspect they are being told by the election "experts" to keep their mouths shut about Obamacare, go about the business of doing what Republicans do, which is piddle around the edges of the issues they think they can triangulate. Like amnesty and gun control.
Keep the rubes (that would be some of us) happy, while bringing in as much of the squishy middle as they can, since they believe the Dems are self-imploding.
As an election strategy, will it work? I don't know.
As a governing philosophy though, it is worse that the Dems, who actually believe in the stuff they do, however misguided. These people, the Republicans, are rotten to the core, and the party needs to die.

Here's my random thought: Is there a solid GOP base any longer? Seriously, is there? I should start by noting that I am defining GOP base as those voters who can be relied upon to volunteer time, donate treasure and turn out to vote without the GOP needing to be concerned that those voters will do so.
Does that still exist? If so, to what extent? I know this is a self-selected group and thus sampling from the Horde is biased but look at how many here, including me, have said that we're done with the GOP as currently constituted and everything is now candidate based only. How far out does that extend? Is it significant enough to matter? If not, what is the tipping point?
Note that I don't have answers to those, I'm just pondering that at the moment.

They haven't done anything "lately," if you include 2009 as a "lately" year.

One thing about the "Seven Days in May" scenario: it was, IIRC, meant to be bloodless, a "simple" takeover based on troop- strength and controlling key sites.
The Real Thing is unlikely to be bloodless.
In fact you could argue that the Prophets of Choom used SDiM as their guidebook, putting an obscure, unknown and untested nobody from Chicago into the role of a well-known general. The rest of it they got down pretty well.
Posted by: MrScribbler at December 04, 2013 03:50 AM (csjXD)
That's the question many of us ask.....
My guess? The base on both sides has shrunk, but it's easier to buy votes from the squishy middle than convince them of the advantages of limited government and liberty from the tyranny of government control.
See who wins?

The "Mike Pence hates Hoosiers!" crowd always tacks on "it would have saved the state money because the feds would pay for it!" which indicates they're just regurgitating talking points and haven't actually read the part where the feds stop paying, nevermind the part where Hoosier taxpayers also pay federal taxpayers.
I've just had it with people blaming Pence for SCOAMF's law and execution therein, and amused that they hate the federal exchanges.

"We're not repealing it as long as I'm president," Obama said during a health care event at the White House. "If I have to fight another three years to make sure this law works, then that's what I'll do."
This should be Barry and the Dem's political Stalingrad if only there were an opposition party to take advantage of it

Worse. The people who wrote the law 1) don't think babies are human beings and 2) believe the government should be able to control family size.
Zombie who comments here has a blog with a lot of original research on the writings of Obama advisors where these things are discussed (I can't look up specific links because IT has blocked it here).

Obama is not expected to propose any new policy initiatives. But the White House says he will reiterate his call for an increase in the minimum wage and promote possible economic benefits of the troubled health care law. Obama also is expected to call on Congress to make a deal on 2014 spending, pass a farm bill with enough money for food stamps and extend unemployment insurance for the long-term unemployed before the end of the year.
Brilliant Barry. Because more taxes, more regulation, more welfare and more of BarryCare is just what the economy needs

Wow, that looks like some nasty shit. If he was part of a "peer to peer" network, that means he was probably filming himself with children and sharing it with other sick fucks. I hate to jump to conclusions on a sex related crime because an innocent person could have his life destroyed with a false charge but I'd have to believe they had tons of irrefutable evidence before the grand jury.
Speaking of pervs, does anybody know if there's an ongoing investigation into what the Second Mile was doing beyond just Sandusky's involvement? I read some highly disturbing things about how it was a wide flung network that went well beyond just Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. Also keep in mind that the original investigator of this, way before when the shit hit the fan regarding Sandusky and Paterno, just disappeared one day and they only found his pc with the hard drive removed. I know there's tons of delusional garbage on the internet and maybe Sandusky was just an individual perv who took advantage of things strictly for his own sick ends. It's just that things don't make sense to me on a few things and I hate having the feeling that the real story is being obscured.

Currently, anyone can seek medical attention, whether they can afford it or not and cannot be turned away. This was thanks to one of those "hateful, evil, uncaring" republicans (Reagan, to be exact).
***
Not exactly true, unless by "seek medical attention" you mean "be seen in the Emergency Room". EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act) is still in full force. Private physician's offices do not have the same obligation to evaluate and stabilize as hospital ER's do.
What I suspect will happen, is that due to constriction of many health networks and lessened availability of primary care docs, ER's will see a BIG increase in business. Patients in the U.S. are used to the notion of being seen quickly, and if they are told there is a waiting time of 6 weeks to be seen in the office, will soon be filling ER's, regardless of ability to pay.
Central planning at its *finest*

The DA you're referencing (Gricar) was heavily involved in aggressively prosecuting mafia cases. That's the more likely explanation for his disappearance.
As to Second Mile, Sandusky was investigated in 1998 by the State Police and Pennsylvania Child Youth Services. He was cleared, even after a trooper stood in a closet and listened to Sandusky apologize to a boy and his mother for 'hurting' him. Soon after that, Paterno told Sandusky he'd never be the head coach and Penn State and Sandusky resigned.
He kept his access as a member of Second Mile and the kids there got to use Penn State football facilities.
Now, Spanier, Curley and Schultz (former PSU president, athletic director, vice president and commissioner of the police department) are all preparing to go to trial for various levels of covering up the abuse. It's particularly sickening when you know that President Spanier was a child therapist specializing in abuse victims.

One LTC had as a day job being a city judge. They busted him for going lenient with female offenders if they did him certain favors. State HQ told him to get lost from the Guard. So he moved to another unit and retired years later.
Another LTC divorced his wife when he was a Major. He married a female NCO under his command. He was promoted to LTC. She quit the Guard so he would not get in trouble.
Then another LTC on an AT for reasons only known to him decided to bang a female Amn. She told coworkers next day how great he was. He was her OIC. But because the guy was a serious a**hole, the hammer did fall on him. Sic transit a 19 year military career and his 19 year marriage.

NORAD is not to blame for the crass commercialization of national defense and Santa Claus. Doesn't everyone remember that Sears had a misprint in a newspaper ad, and people started calling a NORAD desk to talk to Santa? That's how it all got started.
When I was little, the reports came on AM radio, and the idea that grim Cold Warriors in the bunker just might be looking out for the Kindly Old Gent made a kid so happy you'd want to cry. I already "didn't believe" but I believed in the United States Air Force, and have ever since goddammit sir.

One of the benefits of not having registration here is that it allows a rich and diverse community to develop and comment.
Different viewpoints.
Different life experiences shaping the paradigm through which each of us views life.
Different personalities
Different ways of expressing our views on things.
Of course, one could argue that not having registration allows certain assholes to just shit on people who are not necessarily familiar with our predominantly Ameri-centric understanding of how things work.

Which is why I suggested paying off an amoral hacker to put kid perv stuff on Harry Reid's computers. He'd never be able to escape the suspicion. Want to say I'm holding a gun to the heads of the American people, Searchlight? Get ready for the twice-as-hard punch back.

When dueling was popular it was never really legal in the United States. What would usually happen was that either the authorities would choose to not prosecute or the jury would nullify and find not guilty.
Dueling fell out of favor in the early 19th century in the northern states largely as the result of a Christian religious revival which convinced most men that it was better to endure humiliation than to kill another person. The death of Alexander Hamilton also gave dueling a bad name.
Dueling persisted much longer in the south and legislatures tried a number of means to end the practice. The most effective was to require everyone to swear an oath that they had not fought a duel since the law was passed. Since that did not end the social emphasis on honor in antebellum southern society, the response was that rather than arranging a duel, southern gentlemen would carry knives and pistols and respond to perceived slights with immediate violence and then claim in court that it had been a crime of passion in the heat of the moment. Since most juries shared the social values of the defendants, they usually walked free. The response of the legislatures were some of the first anti gun laws in the United States.

I always liked that too. I sometimes wondered if they asked the President to be in on the act and officially welcome Santa to US air space.
