FRIDAY!!!

Ohio focus group made up of folks who voted for Obama last year describes Obama: “overwhelmed,” “powerless,” “inexperienced” and “cautious.”

Gallup: a majority of Americans want Obamacare slimmed down or repealed entirely.

Fantasy novel readers, here's a list of the best fantasy books this year. I had read some, but not all of these. Looking forward to reading the rest. And, here's my favorite rendition of my second-favorite Christmas song:

Have a great weekend, ya'll.

6 I posted this a few minutes ago on ONT. The rehab called me at 5:16 this am & woke me up. My brother is having trouble breathing, even after they gave him treatments to help & they sent him to the ER again. He usually manages to make it almost three weeks w/o a trip to the hospital He was in the hospital until late in the day on November 22. Lately itÂ’s less than three weeks. I donÂ’t know how much more he can put up with. This is the first time theyÂ’ve sent him to the hospital for something other than a very high fever.

86 MPPPP, The man was 95 years old. ItÂ’s not tragic, itÂ’s part of life. TFG himself is going to the funeral. IÂ’ll look up wife later. I put on Fox 25 here in Boston area and they had a discussion about Mandela. I changed back to FNC and they were taking about difference between men & womenÂ’s brains. When I got home last night & turned on computer, someone here posted to watch Sound of Music because it was epic in how bad it was and to watch Twitter. I have Twitter account only to read and it was funny. When that was over I saw beginning of local news start with Mandela & put on Bill O because I knew Sarah Palin was going to be on.

87 The Julie Andrews Christmas song is from (I think)  "A Christmas Treasure"

Andre Previn arranged the music for it. Dad had the LP and that along with many others would play thru the season. I have it in the rotation this time of the year. My favorite is Joy to the World which is the link below. Reminds me of mom, dad, and sis and decorating the tree.

91 I had dinner long ago with the South African ambassador to Norway. i learned a lot about both Mandela's, the ANC and Stephen Bilco. I have lived on the western cape for about a year and used to go to Durban and Jo'burg long ago. The ANC controls everything but the Western Cape, beginning about two hours east of Cape Town and continuing east. The western cape is settled by Dutch, Germen and English people. There are lots of blacks but it is "safe" there and relatively prosperous. The best thing that could happen is partition.

This Mandela thing, I suppose somebody could point out what the man actually did, rather than what he stood  for.  That would be helpful.

As a practical matter, would anybody say S. Africa is better off in some tangible way for having him there?  Seems to me it's more like he  got out in front of history, took the glory, and then essentially let his country rot and fester.

So he's dead, how sad.  This is what you can expect when Obama dies: lots of tears, rending of garments, gnashing teeth, but nobody will be able to say exactly what he did that's so special.

Levin said he scoured all of the documents from the Founders and other than 2/3 of Congress voting to change the Constitution, reps from 2/3 of the states could do it as well.  This is the last escape hatch.

Legislators, if interested or motivated enough, are gathering at Mount Vernon tomorrow for the initial get-together.  It was arranged by a state senator from Indiana.  Levin and Beck have gotten together on this and will be giving details.  It shouldn't be hard to get the majority of the states to agree that Obamacare has to go and that laws that apply to the citizenry will most definitely apply to our betters.  Those are the two main grievances that I recall that are up for being thrown out.

Posted by: Havedash at December 06, 2013 07:57 AM (ToMJU) There is a meeting tomorrow, The Mount Vernon Assembly," where state reps from 30 states (so far) will meet to discuss and perhaps lay out an agenda for an Article V convention. The effort is evidently being spearheaded by Wisconsin state rep Kapenga as well as another from Indiana (name escapes me). What the exact agenda is I have no idea. But the fact that there is this much interest/enthusiasm from perhaps the last constitutional firewall to turning this shit around is encouraging. Make no mistake; it will be a very slow process, and if G-d willing it gains traction it will be attacked by the left and their GOP associates so mercilessly that it will make all other attacks on Palin and Rush seem trivial in comparison. Big government is where these fucking tyrants live and breathe. This is the last way, short of armed insurrection, to stop them. Good luck and G-dspeed to the attendees!

Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at December 06, 2013 07:16 AM (b/lt+) Mandela wasn't quite the great man everyone wants him to be. Yes, in his later years, he did a good job of reconciling the country. WE need to remember, however, that the ANC was founded by Mandela and his buddies as a communist-terrorist organization. We can argue about the reasons for his imprisonment, but the precipitating events were a series of bombings by the ANC. There is also some evidence that he was an instigator at Sharpeville in a cynical attempt to whip up anti-apartheid sentiment. (I don't personally ascribe to that view.) While the length of his imprisonment can be debated, the imprisonment itself was not.

There is no more Bill of Rights. We have a runaway government and judiciary. Besides, an Article V convention has a bunch of firewalls to prevent it from running away, the last of which is a 2/3rds majority to ratify anything. I suggest reading Levin's new book. The case is solid. We're already post-Constitutional. You have to give it a try.

167 There was a young blond girl from LA over there doing some sort of social work crap. A mob attacked her car, broke out the windows, pulled her out and beat her head in. Her parents "forgave" the men who did it and I think they did only a couple of years in prison if that. They are all about that peace and forgiveness and reconciliation shit over there. It's nothing more than letting the guilty go free because it interferes with the powers that be. Same with Rwanda. I remember watching some meeting where a guy and his family were hacked up and thrown in the river. He survived but his entire family died. He had to listen while his neighbors who did this to him and his family got up and said, "me sorry " and then he had to forgive them. When he talked in private, he said he was too afraid not to say what they wanted him to say. So, victims are victimized once again to keep the leftards like Mandela and Tutu happy.

If two thirds of the states were, for example, to vote for doing away with the 2nd Amendment, we are done for anyway. Plus I am sure that would never happen. Don't confuse the states with the public or popular vote. Wyoming would never win in congress of popularly against Cali or NY. Under Article V however, they have the same standing. When I came across a televised recording of Andrews, still a young girl singing operetta, I was all the more impressed at her early vocal finesse and clarity of tone and pitch. The Constitution would've never been ratified without its inclusion because enough people, particularly those opposed to a tyranical central government, needed some assurance that there would be opportunities to change things if everything turned to shit.  There are no guarantees as far as what it would produce but the current path is clearly suicidal.

225 I watched the sing off to the end when the Pentatonix won against the much better finalist- primarily because the other group was all men. The bearded guy whined about how he was discriminated against because he was Jewish. My husband commented that perhaps it was because of his stupid hair. With their win, they received a recording contract and backing of NBC/Universal. This is a big marketing campaign designed to look grassroots- their Little Drummer BOy video is all over social media. Crappy lip synching, to boot.

229 I'm not sure what Mandela's religious affiliation was, but unless he was a Christian he was not a Saint according to either a Biblical definition or the definition of the Roman Catholic Church. "The idea of the word “saints” is a group of people set apart for the Lord and His kingdom. There are three references referring to godly character of saints: "that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints …" (Romans 16:2). "For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12). "But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints" (Ephesians 5:3)." For Roman Catholics, the lives of Saints have been examined by the church that recognzes they are Saints. They are dead. For Paul the Saints are alive. 237 Just dropping in to say that the end of Apartheid may not be a big deal to you guys, but it was to the black Africans who were being oppressed under it. A country that works is not really a positive if you are being treated as less than a second class citizen. And for those worried about potential genocide of SA whites, I'm sure you were equally distressed about the black Africans under Apartheid, right? Not to excuse the evil that is genocide or deny that ANC rule has been corrupt and unproductive, as the rule in Afican countries almost always is. But please get some perspective. Being oppressed in your own land is no joke. Luckily I grew up in a country where we did not experience this but as a kid I was acutely aware of the plight of black South Africans (you know, the original inhabitants).

250 I wonder what made Southern African whites so horrible then. The rest of us were colonized by Europeans but I would say their impact was mostly positive. I'm sure they were racist (everyone back then was and I'd venture that most people worldwide are even today), but they treated us pretty well albeit as inferiors. My parents received fantastic educations from Scottish and English (?) missionaries.

259 chique d'afrique, As with the displacement of the AmerInds (of which I am always acutely aware, living in Oklahoma), there's a lot of no-win in cultural conflicts. Only in relatively modern times, and, I deem, much due to the universalizing spirit of Jesus' teaching, have we learned to give a crap about the guy in the other tribe. Enemies, historically, have been to eliminate or enslave ("and hear the lamentations of their women") rather than to be loved and done good to. My sympathies are always with the enslaved and oppressed, but humans have a wicked streak, and more often than not, the liberated delight in becoming the new oppressors, more "now it's our turn" than "never again." Humans and other chimps be face biters. Reminds me of Nora Dunn's standup skit about the little girl watching a Nature show. First, you're rooting for the little gazelle. Then, oh noes, the mean ol' tiger got him. But then, the tiger is feeding her cubs, d'aww... Our sympathies get whipped around. I mean, who are you really rooting for? Not some mass identified by skin or belief or other arbitrary measure, but individuals by their character, as some ol' dead (American) black guy dreamed. Glad you chimed in.

262 Mama Winger I've spent the week reading to learn more about the ancient world, tribes, empires, beliefs, gods, conquests and cultural exchanges. Andouni Armenian Lament (Oral Tradition) http://tinyurl.com/nv3jnwh btw, the musical heritage of the region was NOT invented by Muslims, who like any nomads, borrowed/stole from original sources while passing through, to hone as their own over time. Yesterday while cross referencing the Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, I came across Ani, Armenia (Hayk), City of 1001 Churches, and City of 40 Gates. Remember St. Bartholemy converted the Armenians, the first nation to officially embrace Christianity. When the City of Ani surrendered to the invading Muslims, the inhabitants were all slaughtered. Just as the Armenians were slaughtered in genocide by the Ottoman Turks when losing WWI. The Ani video I saw yesterday toured the interior of the churches to see the magnificent tiled Christian mosaics, emphasizing the Turk crime perpetuating the demolition process, first through the centuries of mandated neglect, followed recently with Muslim orders to demolish the ruins. Archeology must be destroyed, leaving no evidence of life prior to Muhammad's exploits as invented by his illiterate war lord converts. I also came across Syrian Archeological Preservation Society videos online of the recent Salafi/Wahhabi invading/conquering "rebels" first stealing/hiding under wraps an ancient golden statue of Abraham, and the murdered Sufi bodies under blankets, then blowing up and bulldozing the entire Sufi ancient architectural mausoleum of walls and rooms for worship/study. Here's a shorter video from that occasion. http://tinyurl.com/lq66xg9

263 256. "Bounty" Shchedryk, swallow's song http://tinyurl.com/lbpjtcv The melody was created in 1916 by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921) and titled "Shchedryk". Based on an old Ukrainian folk song, the original lyrics describes the swallow flying into a household to proclaim the plentiful year that the family will have. The song's title is derived from the Ukrainian word "shchedryi" which means "bountiful." The swallow is a herald of spring coming, possibly of pre-Christian origins. The folk melody was sung in many Ukrainian villages on Jan. 13 -- New Year's Eve on the Julian calendar -- usually by adolescent girls going house to house in celebration of the new year. The choral work Shchedryk was first performed by students at Kiev University in December 1916. When American choir director and arranger Peter Wilhousky (1902-197 heard Leontovich's choral work, it reminded him of bells; so he wrote new lyrics to convey that imagery for his choir. He published the new lyrics in 1936. Of Czech background, Wilhousky grew up singing in Russian-American choirs and made many translations and arrangements of Slavic music. The title chosen by him "Carol of the Bells" was harmonious with the old Slavic legend that at midnight the evening Jesus was born all the bells on earth started to sound of their own accord in his honor. Since then the song has become a popular Christmas tune especially in the US and Canada where it is also known as "Ukrainian Carol".
