— Gabriel Malor Whoa.
Pope Benedict XVI will step down as of February 28th for health reasons. The last pope to step down was Pope Gregory XII in 1415, under rather different circumstances.
Charles C. W. Cooke has an excellent read over at NRO about Rep. Markey (likely soon-to-be Sen. Markey) and his hysterical obsession with bringing roller coasters under federal regulation.
LATimes is reporting that murderer Chris Dorner is the first domestic human target for drones. Apparently CBP, which has a half-dozen drones for border surveillance, is keeping a look-out for Dorner trying to cross to Mexico.
The White House is trying to force Republicans to negotiate on sequester-avoiding tax hikes. Part of that effort is, apparently, calling on federal agencies to make some fairly incredible claims, like for example the USDA, which says sequestration will cause an immediate two-week shutdown of the meat industry. The lie here is that furloughs would have to take place immediately, that they would have to cover all employees simultaneously, and that they would have to be consecutive, rather than spread out over the rest of the fiscal year.

Yes it would pull in more money but it would be a tax increase for a large part of the country if not the majority of people. Now that the "Bush tax rates" have been made permanent we still have 50% of the country not paying any taxes at all. And probably another 15 or 20% who pay less than 10% in gross taxes.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. I’ve had popes die during my lifetime, but this is the first one who’s ever resigned. Benedict must really be feeling awful to take such a step.
Well, letÂ’s start off the week, shall we?
In the 1940’s and 50’s, one of the biggest Hollywood columnists (next to Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper) was Sidney Skolsky, whose tag line was, “But don’t get me wrong – I love Hollywood.”
It seems that, one morning, Skolsky got a call from William Randolph Hearst, whose Los Angeles Herald-Examiner ran his syndicated column. “Louella told me that you’re a Communist,” Hearst spat. “Are you sure she didn’t say ‘columnist’?” a bemused Skolsky replied. ”You know she has a hard time pronouncing some words.” No, Hearst said, he was sure. “And when we’re through with you, you’ll be nothing!” the publishing tycoon finished.
After the call, Skolksy racked his brains trying to think of what he might have done to Parsons to make her come up with such a wild accusation. Finally, he believed that the reason lay in an item in one of his columns: it predicted Greta Garbo and conductor Leopold Stokowski would not be marrying each other, while, unknown to Skolsky, Parsons had that day printed an “exclusive” article predicting that they would marry.* Being contradicted, Skolsky thought, was what really enraged Parsons.
Three months later, Skolsky met Parsons for the first time, at a Hollywood restaurant. While Skolsky talked to other people at the table, Parsons simply sat back and listened. Then she leaned over and whispered, “I didn’t know you were such a nice man. If I’d known you were so nice, I never would have told Mr. Hearst that you were a Communist.”
Her casual admission had Skolsky nearly blind with rage. He knew it was wrong to hit a woman, but he felt he had to do something. So he bit her.
“And I’ll tell you something else,” Skolsky wrote in his autobiography. “I had the tooth removed.”
And thatÂ’s it for me. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
*Skolsky was right.

A. A typo or misspelling left uncorrected

St. Malachy's prophecies were a fraud designed to influence the choice of the next Pope.
See, what the perpetrator did, was list all the real Popes for the previous hundred years or so and say they were predictions by St Malachy. He also included the next Pope he wanted to get the nod. He was trying to influence the cardinals into thinking it was preordained (no pun intended).

Actually, I posit that it would do some good.
First, it would reduce (by 10%, ha!) the amount we pay (net) into those programs. Okay, it would probably reduce it by closer to 8% but you understand what I'm saying.
Second, it would reduce the pain of going from a taker to a maker. As it is right now, people who are on welfare have an active disincentive when it comes to getting a job that would make them self sufficient. If we could reduce that disincentive or remove it entirely, we might get a few more people voluntarily removing themselves from the welfare rolls.

What gets me is the fraud, and what welfare does to the family unit.
They always like to give the example of the "single mother". They never tell you that a lot of those on assistance (let's say Earned Income Credits, for example) are still living with the father of her kids, but wouldn't qualify for the EITC if married because his income and hers combined would be over the threshold.
And why the fuck aren't we going after the fathers anyway for support? Who says I'm supposed to contribute to the upbringing of her kids when the real father isn't??
Clinton-era welfare reform just made the libtards more creative in figuring out ways to create a permanent welfare society.

WOW. Yet another person has failed to acknowledge the "Gun Free Zone" signs. Guy shot his wife at a courthouse in Delaware.
Tragic.
I really wish people would learn to read......
