It is Pope Benedict's final day as pope. In the UK, bookies are taking bets on who will be the next pontiff.
The House is apparently ready to pass the Senate's expanded version of VAWA. Just two months ago, the House was saying "no way," and taking some pretty significant lumps for letting VAWA to expire. Apparently, House GOP's thinking has changed, though I haven't heard the reason for it. No doubt they don't really want to talk about it.
There'll be a bit more drama in Congress over the sequester, but House GOP is standing firm for the moment and is even planning to keep the sequester cuts in the CR that's expected by the end of March (since there's no anticipation the Senate will get off its ass and approve a budget).

Ironically, the school district has a policy that prohibits a school from compelling students to recite the American Pledge of Allegiance.
There is nothing “ironic” about it. The schools have been taken over by anti-American leftists and anything that is pro-American is prohibited. This school also allows students to opt out of reciting the Declaration of Independence. The only thing “ironic” about this is that the school is in Texas. But as usual, the taxpayers will be the only people held accountable.

House majority leader Eric Cantor is increasingly frustrated with a group of House Republicans who are working against the leadership, and heÂ’s not afraid of voicing his dismay.
IOW the “leadership” doesn’t like conservatives. No shit. So why do conservative not like this stupid bill? Well it never has been needed to begin with. Violence against anybody is already against the law and the bill overall is an unconstitutional foray into State matters. But this is why they are actually opposing it from an earlier article, which nobody mentions in today’s news:
In April, the Senate hammered out legislation that included protections for Native Americans, undocumented immigrants, and gay, lesbian and transgender victims in addition to those already protected under the legislation.
So an already shitty bill is made even more shitty and the House “leadership” will shit on you if you don’t support it. The Republican Party is getting deader by the day. And BTW, they passed it.
And like almost every bill that is written now the contents of the bill bare no resemblance to the title.

Interesting in a vicarious way, I suppose, but not really funny. This story's not really funny, either, but it's all I have right now:
Sometime around 1950, the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas made his way to Hollywood. Like any tourist, he told his host, the screenwriter Ivan Moffat, that he wanted to meet a movie star. Moffat brought him around to meet Shelley Winters, who had recently been given the role of Alice Tripp, the doomed factory girl in the Paramount picture A Place in the Sun. After the introductions, Thomas pointed to Winters' substantial rack and asked "Are they really real?" Winters replied that he could touch if he didn't believe; slowly and tentatively, the poet reached out with his index finger to touch her breast, then pulled the digit back with a nod, convinced of their substantiation. Later on, Thomas would tell Moffat that he had attempted to seduce Winters, but that she refused him "in language which was as direct as a stevedore's."
I was also asked for a Richard Harris story, which is much easier. Here's one from his early years: at the age of 17, his father ordered him to drive a truck to Dublin and be back home no later than 7.30 that night. When I read that I immediately thought about the Declaration of Independence and the fact that it reads:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."
It does not say a guarantee of happiness. That's what the fools running things now seem to think it says.

The sequestration cuts are so large that they blow through the caps that Congress imposed to allow DoD some internal budget flexibility. They can't move enough money around to stop a troop cut, because they run out of cap space before they even get halfway to the number they need to move. This is why DoD has been bitching for a year - unsuccessfully - be be allowed temporary authority to exceed the reprogramming caps. So they could avoid personnel cuts.
I don't tell you you're full of shit when you talk about nuclear power plants. Don't tell me I'm full of shit on DoD budgetary issues - because that's what I do.

The point isn't that DC prevailed. The point is that after ruling it was an individual right he added a statement that allowed open season on certain types of weapons without providing any limitations at all, other than a handgun was allowed.
And the other thing is the "practical side" of the Heller ruling. DC still virtually prohibits handguns. And so does every other large city in the US.

I don't know exactly and I regret that b/c one of the genuine gifts she gave me besides speed reading was my cooking ability.
No nuts, and I think she baked semi-granulated tapioca from the old fashioned beads into a sugar cookie base and maybe lashed it at some point with vanilla extract.
It's a state of middle age I guess to realize you value most those things taken for granted that the mists of time have taken away.
