Happy Friday.

In light of the Woodward drama, Mike Riggs over at Reason recalls some of the Obama Administration's more ham-fisted attempts to pressure reporters for purposes of image management.

Christian Heinze has a characteristically insightful post on the GOP 2016 field. Read it and weep.

Sec. Napolitano says the sudden pre-sequestration release of aliens from ICE detention facilities took her as much by surprise as it did everyone else. This tendency to genuinely plead ignorance, by the way, is one of the true scandals of the Obama Administration.

The Obama folks have normalized a style of management wherein political appointees give vague directives and then get to plead ignorance when those vague policies are translated into dangerous and idiotic decisions by safely anonymous underlings. Of course Sec. Napolitano has no idea what's going on in her own detention facilities; she doesn't want to know. That's the scandal. Of course AG Holder didn't know his subordinates were selling guns to Mexican cartels; he didn't want to know. That's the scandal. Of course Sec. Clinton had no idea her own diplomats were begging for help because of Benghazi's security nightmare; she didn't want to know. That's the scandal.

Illinois GOP party chairman Pat Brady came out in in favor of gay marriage. And now gay marriage opponents want to oust him. This is a guy that got the IL GOP out of debt. He's raised $8 million for the party in a blue state. He's cut IL GOP administrative costs by 70% while upgrading their data center. Oh, and he did it all as a volunteer. But, please, let's get rid of effective Republicans for holding the same position on marriage as the last Republican vice president; that's a smart move.

And for a bit of Friday fun, here's Men's Health's latest list: "20 Habits That Make You Fat." Looks like I'll be saying "Adios" to my fat friends.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Friday, March 01, 2013.  On this day in 1790 Congress authorized the first census.  In those days we still followed the Constitution, which had just gone into effect, and the only thing the census did was count noses in a house for the purposes of representation in the House and the number of electors. Now, thanks to plentiful bribes they count everything so it can go into a database for people to target you in selling shit and campaigning for office.

Also on this day in 2012 Breitbart died.  RIP BB we miss you.

2 Sometimes I wonder about Fox.  They have reported several times that the “cuts” are not really cuts, but here they are continuing the “cut” hype.  It reads like a press release from Obama.  One thing I have noted, night shift and weekends contain the most liberal Obama ass kissing so maybe thatÂ’s it.

3 Note to “Mountain Men roughing it in the deep dark in Western NC and other places:  DonÂ’t go on the Non-History channel showing your location and activities.  A self-styled “Mountain Man” who runs a camp and school for roughing it in the mountains of Western NC is being shutdown by county authorities because his buildings do not meet code.  Yes, it seems they have building codes even in the deep wilderness.  There is no freedom anywhere anymore.  Authorities were alerted to his nefarious buildings when he appeared on the History Channel.

4 Fox says “prominent” conservatives line up in support of striking down CAÂ’s proposition 8.  I canÂ’t watch the video without going around my elbow using a different browser but the only list I could find of these conservatives included a bunch of nobodies from CA that I had never heard of.  Morons who can watch Fox imbedded videos look at this and see if there are any names that are (1) actual conservatives and (2) Prominent.

6 MI governor may declare a “financial emergency” for Detroit.  Looks to me like he is looking for ways to get even more federal money to bail out this broken down shit hole.  If you really want to see how stupid the criminals running this city are look at this statement.

The financial review team's report given to Snyder said the accumulated deficit as of June 30, 2012, would have topped $900 million if Detroit leaders in recent years had not issued bonds to pay some of its bills.

They issued bonds pay bills which I assume are daily operating expenses.  How are these bonds not “debt”.  All they did was trade the type of debt it is.  And one wonders who bought these bonds.  No sane investment manager would touch Detroit bonds. How much would you like to bet that those bonds were bought by the federal government just like they had been buying CAÂ’s worthless bonds?  Note also that the authorized program for the feds buying city and State bonds expired over a year ago and has not been reauthorized.  Also note that it is illegal here in SC to issue bonds for anything but capital expenses.  I assume that most States that value fiscal prudence also have that.

8 Is the History Channel going to make history and not only show some history but also give the bible and religion a fair shake?   Ordinarily I would say not a chance but Roma Downey and her producer husband are doing this mini-series so there is a chance.

In a 10-part miniseries, airing on The History Channel beginning March 3, the couple told Fox they aimed to retell the stories of the Bible in a way that appeals to a young audience.

As they said, first show Mar 3 (this Sunday) at 8 pm

29 so Gabe I am sorta at a loss here...

no seriously I respect the IL GOP honcho's performance but do you think maybe had he decided not to alienate the hardcore GOP in blue IL that had some ideological basis for not crossing over he might not be under fire?

Is this issue so vital it is worth alienating your caucus?  Why are gays allowed their magical issue but we are supposed to stifle the pro-lifers?  If the answer is the PR game the gays have benefited from donkey agitation on then when do other factions get to be the pretty pony?

If the goal is a world where being gay or an ally of the gays doesn't matter you'll have no bigger ally than me, if the goal is the GOP becoming GLAAD you'll have a rough time finding a bigger foe.

80 The Harvard Crimson published an editorial urging conservatives not to apply to Harvard if they intend to criticize the university down the line for political points. The editorial, titled “Warning: Do Not Enroll,” denigrates famous conservatives who graduated from Harvard and later sharply — and perhaps hypocritically — complained about the university’s liberal ideology, including former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, and Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly. “If we could have spoken to these three men, we would have told them never to come to Cambridge,” wrote the staff of the Crimson. “We at The Crimson urge anyone who plans on one day scoring political points by maligning Harvard to neither apply, enroll, nor graduate from this fine institution.” ut the Crimson editorial may inadvertently support some conservatives’ assertions about the liberal campus’ hostility toward conservatives. “Harvard liberals sure are an accepting bunch,” wrote Nathan Harden, editor of The College Fix. “I wonder where anyone ever got the idea that Harvard was hopelessly biased?” - See more at: http://weaselzippers.us/#sthash.RTN6gCy3.dpuf

81 #74  Exactly.   This is all about forcing churches,  particularly the Catholic Church,  to marry gay couples.

Just as there was another way to give women fre birth control without forcing Catholics to do so,  this push for gay marriage is about forcing the Church to acquiesce.

It would be amusing if Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana becomes the pope.  He is very conservative and would cause a disruption in the Narrative about Catholics.

First of all, that stupid Fox link smelled like a dog's ass and made me sit through a fucking ad once the POS loaded into my browser.  Second, Megyn was interviewing that whore Nicolle "I will torpedo Sarah Palin at any cost" Wallace, who was one of the supporters and is obviously none of the above when it comes to prominent and conservative.  I didn't even recognize most of those anonymous RINOs except for that asswipe Huntsman, who should go to his friends in Peking and peddle that garbage in Mandarin to see how that works, and Ted Olsen, who lost his fucking mind after his wife was killed in the Pentagon 9/11 flight.

113 - "Christian Heinze has a characteristically insightful post on the GOP 2016 field. Read it and weep." It's not an insightful piece. In various parts it's not even sentient. Sorry, Chief, but when Rand Paul is listed in the "needs to run" category "insightful" no longer is in the building. The other point about that article, albeit it does contain salient and non-dissonant material, is that somehow it missed the giant neon screaming elephant in the room: The horrible demographics of the GOP's national primary selectorate. Even assuming the key players run and the fringe riff raff elements don't run there still are the harsh demographic realities of the putative "base." Then there are the related problems of the early contests and their particularly-detached demographics: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina. You almost could not script three worse states to have disproportionate influence on a national primary process. A low-density white state where the one major industry is taxpayer subsidized. A tiny all-white state where the government is the 3rd largest employer. A Deep South state with a very disproportionate number of evangelicals. A train wreck. The cold hard truth is that no matter who runs the '16 GOP primary season nearly instantly will devolve into a pissing match over divisive and unsolvable social issues: abortion, evolution vs. creationism, gay marriage, contraception. Simultaneously the contenders will have to lurch way too far to the right on immigration issues. The prospects are bleak. Having a cocooned and largely-irrational primary base with too much time on its hands is a recipe for perpetual political disasters.

This is a guy that got the IL GOP out of debt. He's raised $8 million for the party in a blue state. He's cut IL GOP administrative costs by 70% while upgrading their data center.

That's not being an effective Republican.  That's being an effective ADMINISTRATOR.

I'm sure there is at least one person in Illinois who could do that without caving in to a liberal wish list item.

140 #133  I fail to see why the GOP needs ANY network coverage of their debates.  Do a live stream and then run replays on YouTube.  Have the candidates draw questions out of a fishbowl, questions that have been submitted by actual GOP registered voters.

As far as the general election debates,  refuse to participate unless we get a moderator and questioners who are balanced.  And take every opportunity to say why.

142 As to the social issues, it's not that they should not be spoken of, it's that we need candidates who can articulate WHY they are important to us and WHY the left are G-dless heathen fucks. Yes, personally, I'd like to avoid them because they are a distraction to the low info voter - especially when we allow the MFM and debate moderators to frame the questions and the debate in the first place. But if they are going to raise the issues, our candidates have got to be able to articulate a cogent and intelligent response in 30 seconds or less. End of rant.

146 Then there are the related problems of the early contests and their particularly-detached demographics: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina. You almost could not script three worse states to have disproportionate influence on a national primary process. A low-density white state where the one major industry is taxpayer subsidized. A tin

The RNC is useless until they tell these three states to go fuck themselves and get to the back of the line.  In fact they should sell toilet paper made from the Iowa constitution where it purportedly states that those corn fed cocksuckers get to go first; why should I or anybody else be bound by that?  Any state that repeatedly elects that lying pile of shit, Tom Harken, should be severely beaten on the head by a party which purportedly is in favor of limited government (don't laugh too hard on that).

This Blaze piece includes the couple's argument and a longer look at the new 10-hour series.  Downey recently pointed out in an interview that The 10 Commandements film is 50 years old and the special FX are hokey.  Heck, if that's what would appeal to some apathetic folks, tell them to watch for that reason alone.  The Great Flood, Goliath falling to David's slingshot and Sodom and Gomorrah being pelted with fireballs in the clip here.

187 It takes discipline (and I am FAR from good at it) but the key to defeating a liberal in an argument is that you have to be able to understand and argue their side of the issue as effectively as possible. 220 Dear Friends of Gay Marriage:

Start making your arguments better. Half of the hate and discontent is because you can't--you claim the other side is not acting on rational basis, and then the only arguments you offer seem to be half-baked themselves, based on your own emotional feelings.

You are never going to convince any non-Western society at the rate you are going.

The Obama administration, by the way, is wrong in its actions before the Court. I don't have time for a long argument, but it simply is this--liberals have got to stop shoving things through via the Court on Constitutional grounds and then refuse to ever admit any other possibility of the Constitution checking them. Take the king's coin, do the king's bidding.

242 One additional thing:

There is indeed in America an unequal treatment of citizens, buttressed by arguments that such inequality is for the public good, enabled by a majority trying to control the actions of a minority, with frequent animus against the minority apparent, where the motivating reason for action against the minority does in fact seem to be based largely upon emotion, or at least an emotionally-based belief system, and that does result in substantial loss to that minority.

But enough about progressive income taxation.

Why is that son?

Solar son.

"it's worse than that it was a split between solar and wind despite the teacher admitting that it could never match current consumption to even 50%, 2 nuclear, and i was the only one who pointed out fossil fuels are due a boom are already the most efficient cost to KW wise and can be used to foster and fund research into integrating the other choices or moving nuclear towards fusion."

Well son what reason did any of the solar/wind kids give for voting for it anyway?"

That sounds like the way to go.  Jumping out of a B-17 would be like the movies, just step outside the door.

When I went through it, we had to make 5 static line jumps to do a freefall.  We were all jammed into a tiny little plane with only a pilot's seat - everyone else had to squat.

To jump, you had to reach out and grab a greasy strut, then step on to a little metal step.  This is happening as the plane is doing 90 or 100 miles an hour.  If you don't think it's hard, wind the Prius up to 100 and stick your arm out the window.

On top of that, your mind is making mental calculations the whole time figuring the pressure of the wind against your body and how close you were to the tail surfaces that you were sure you would hit when you let go.

All in all a good time.

Well, I would think that adoption is the only reason gays would want to marry.  At the same time, orphans should be given a choice in the matter as well, - simply because having two daddies could prove to be a lifelong traumatic experience.

The wife, however, wouldn't let me give the poster the subtitle of "Ronaldus Maximus". I was pretty disappointed about that.

Maybe I should just stick to assaulting straight white males with a baseball bat.
That's still good, right?

Oh, absolutely.   In fact    I'd say it's actively encouraged!   Visit your   closest N.O.W. office to get a free bat.

And if I smack a straight white male, who used to be a white female lesbian, who has since had an addadicktome and retains a preference for women, I'm still good too, right?

Well, that's a bit more difficult.  Would this individual count as a transsexual/transgendered person?  If so, were you aware of their trans-ness BEFORE    the bat attack?   If the answer to either of those is yes, you    could easily be up shit creek without a paddle.

Pro-adopts argued, ignoring the "all else equal" aspect. In practice, all is rarely equal, and in some cases, a kid might be better off with caring, respectful group gay parents than a brutal, drunken pair of bio het parents. 310 I'm stunned I haven't gotten a call from my daughter's school. (She's in Kindergarten btw.)

Two of the more notable incidents:

1) First time they had some sort of snack/special occasion thing in her class, they pass out the food and suddenly she jumps up on her chair and yells "Wait!!! No one eat! We haven't said the blessing yet!" She then folded her hands, closed her eyes and said the blessing we always say over our meals.

2) Week before election the teacher informs them that there will be a school wide vote and they need to talk to their parents and decide who to vote for. (Why the fuck are kindergarteners voting?) The teacher then goes on to inform the 5 years olds about how she's voting for Obama and why. (The fuck, bitch???) Up goes my little girl's hand immediately. "Yes Brittany?" "Well I'm voting for Mitt Romney." "Why?" "Because he believes in Jesus and knows how to make money. Obama doesn't."

Biden Advises Shooting Shotgun Through Door; Virginia Beach Man Arrested For Doing Just That

Link to US News: http://tiny.cc/hru9sw

Vice President Joe Biden told Field & Stream magazine in an interview published Monday, "[if] you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door."

Coincidentally, a 22-year-old man in Virginia Beach, Va., was charged Monday with reckless handling of a firearm after doing just that a couple days earlier.

Local TV station WAVY 10 reports that the man observed two masked men leaning into his bedroom window. The men allegedly had weapons and told him to close his bedroom door. He stepped outside of his bedroom and did as instructed, then fired his shotgun through the closed door and then several more times at the window.

According to the news report there were no injuries and the suspects were not apprehended by police...

They didn't need to cook the books on the official unemployment rate - by design it falls if people give up looking for work and thus exit the labor force rather than continuing to seek work and thus counting as unemployed.  Of course, since the U-3 measure was first created in 1948 there had never been a prolonged period of low employment until Obama, so this aspect of the U-3 rate hadn't created that much distortion from reality until the last few years.  Holding the labor force participation constant from January 2009, the U-3 rate would be 10.9% for January 2013.

A point I try to make is that refusing to acknowledge that someone is screwing things up is itself racist.  It is using a different standard for a Black person than you would use for a White person.

People nowadays have no problems with racism.  So long as it favors the minority.   It's still racism.  People need to get over it and treat people the same regardless of their race.

Carter was a collossal fool, and I have written reams about what a shit-stain he was on the Presidency.  Clinton was a lying sack of shit, and I have likewise written reams about what a turd burger he was.  Refraining from criticizing Barack Obama because he is black would be giving in to the worst form of racism.  "The Soft Bigotry of low expectations."

We have standards.  He doesn't get a pass because he's black.

366 8th grade, public school in MA, mid 1980's. Ms. McGourty, a toad like woman who happened to be my homeroom teacher, took a kind of poll regarding Ronald Reagan and nuclear disarmament. The gist of it was, "Do you think Reagan will start a nuclear war and what is the best way to stop him?". I spent that day haranguing my classmates into writing all sorts of pro-Reagan responses to her little query. The next day when we passed them in she was aghast. It quickly became clear that I had blown her little plan to discuss the evils of Reagan. Long story short, she was pissed and started calling me all sorts of names, I fired back and we argued for the whole period. She gave me an F-minus in Conduct on my next report card. My parents thought it was hilarious.

369 The paper of record in my fair city, The Seattle Times actually reported an unintended consequence of the Seattle ban on plastic grocery bags (they charge 5 cents for a paper bag). In addition to salmonella and other such food born bacterial diseases, banning plastic bags has resulted in a huge increase in shoplifting! Who'd a thunk that people can easily steal produce and such in their nice, big reusable shopping bags. There's also been an increase in cart and basket loss--people are stealing those too because if they don't have a reusable bag with them, they need something to carry their groceries home with them. Who would have thunk that banning plastic bags could result in huge money and property losses! Stupid Libtards!

Posted by: soothsayer at March 01, 2013 09:47 AM (gtTDa)

It's a bit like eating dog.   Yes, it's another source of meat like any other,   and there are cultures all over the world that have no problem eating    it,   but humans have a special affinity for dogs and cats and horses that they don't    necessarily   associate     with livestock.       Many Westerners   see a dog or a cat or a horse and perceive it more as a pet than an animal.      You can eat sheep, for example, but if you     had a PET sheep and had to eat it, it would probably make you sick to your stomach to    do    it.

Or guinea pigs.   Here in the    States,  guinea pigs are pets.    In    parts of South America, they're dinner.   If you'd just eaten a good meal in a     Peruvian cafe and asked the waitstaff what   cuy was exactly,    when    they told you, "Guinea pig"    and    you weren't prepared for the answer you could easily lose everything you'd just    scarfed down your     hungry     maw.

Then there's the issue of food contamination.   There is a certain level of health inspection involved in processing beef or pork and other meats,   and those animals are generally expected to be healthy before going to    the slaughterhouse.   But who's verifying the health and sanitation of horses and horsemeat preparation?

But for the most part it's an issue of cultural preference.    I think most people wouldn't care if OTHERS ate horse, so long as they can be sure that the food they themselves are eating does NOT contain horse.   When you have all this cross contamination going on, that's when people get squeamish.    It'd be like finding out the McDonald's hamburger you had yesterday was 2/3 beef, 1/3 Secretariat.

What I would be for is doing away with the state-level institution of marriage altogether. Marriage should be a church ceremony and nothing more. I would be 100% for a benign "civil contract" that doesn't have the word "marriage" in it anywhere. And then anybody can go into a civil contract with anybody for any damn reason.

I think compromising with people that have serious mental illness is a dumb idea.  Pretending that what they do is normal is detrimental for society.  If your social customs are not going to be rooted in reality, when ARE you going to say "No" ?

415 "Gay marriage = Gay adoption. Are you saying you're sweet on gay males adopting - and dressing young children in studded leatherneck collarsto bring them to Pride events?" Gay Marriage = Gay Everything. And this is what the "secular" conservatives like ace don't get. The gay lifestyle is at its core rooted very simply in selfishness, an extreme brand of selfishness. While some find their way to the conservative movement because they are selfishly attracted to things like lower taxes, these people are few and far between. The vast majority of conservatives are here for selfless reasons. People who are inherently selfish almost always find their way to the Democrat party. Just as with amnesty, supporting the gays is a loser. Long-term it will increase the liberal to conservative ratio.

417 It's so true that this administration has mastered the art of the plausible denial. I hope we don't let up on the Bengahazi nightmare if for no other reason than to taint Hillary for 2016. She will not be any better than Obama. Posted by: SpasticToad They haven't mastered anything. Their denials might be completely implausible, but no one in the MSM ever challenges them. One hates to constantly play the "If a Republican were President..." card, but we all know it's true. If Nixon had been a Democrat, no one would have given a shit about five guys breaking into a hotel room to bug a phone. And the bias has only risen 1000x today.

421 I'm having a hard time understanding conservatives giving up our beliefs for votes. Seems to me that only leads to creatinga one party system does it not? Or are we to "come out of the closet" so to speak after we get the votes we need to get a win?

Posted by: Talibill at March 01, 2013 09:52 AM (qk/nQ)

Agreed.  I have long argued that our positions are not whimsical.  They have real world consequences which are determined by natural law.  The Majority of voters cannot remake natural law, and changing reality base positions to pander to voters is just idiocy.

If the majority of people have become so stupid, we should just let them suffer the consequences of their foolishness.  Changing our positions just to win votes is not going to prevent a reckoning when the foolish policy choices manifest themselves.

Because I'm not willing to compromise on marriage at all, I see removing marriage from the state as the only way to save it. But this path, as with other issues like a flat tax, is a pipe dream. 427 Top ten list of guaranteed loss arguments for GOP. numbers 1 through 10: Anything, whatsoever, to do with social issues. Gay marriage, immigration, ... Gabe comments "Illinois GOP party chairman Pat Brady came out in in favor of gay marriage. And now gay marriage opponents want to oust him. This is a guy that got the IL GOP out of debt. He's raised $8 million for the party in a blue state. He's cut IL GOP administrative costs by 70% while upgrading their data center. Oh, and he did it all as a volunteer." and his summary? "But, please, let's get rid of effective Republicans for holding the same position on marriage as the last Republican vice president; that's a smart move." I have to say I agree with Gabe on this. This is a losing proposition. If you are opposed to gay marriage then marry a straight person. This is a losing proposition, and only someone who actually wants to lose would be banging this particular drum. I am sorry, but this pretty much sums up most socons. I can only postulate a few theories.  Most of the people who want to work in these environments are leftists, and I believe that it is the brain wiring that makes people aspire towards these vocations.  Leftists are imaginative and good at fantasy beliefs, so they do well in fiction and play-acting.

Conservatives tend to be more "nuts and bolts" sort of people, and not so interested in intangibles.  Conservatives in Media is not a natural fit.  For Liberals it is.  I think we can do it, but we have to work harder at it than would Liberals.

439 Any old-timers wish to correct me, but I recall a time many years ago when this site's commenters were not 75% so-cons, maybe the other way around. (Nothing wrong with that, but I am just noticing this vibe, maybe its just me.) Anyways, the obvious solution to "gay marriage" is to remove the government from the marrying business, and simply offer civil unions for all people who wish them. Your local church can perform marriages. Notice how this cedes power BACK to the churches and preserves the term marriage? This is the best hope I can see for so-cons to be able to cooperate with non so-cons in the party. Now, my guess is some so-cons will agree with this in theory, but many, many will not agree - preferring the state put the harsh on the gheys. Thus, losing libertarian leaners and non-so-cons of all stripes. Look, I am an atheist/agnostic and pro-choice-ish and ok withgay marriage. I am willing to vote for Mormon's or Baptists and pro-life candidates. I don't demand they be run out of town on the rails...but it sure seems so-cons want to do that to pro-gay marriage types in our party. No one is "alienating" you. I don't get "alienated" when I hear Ryan give his pro-life positions. Its not "alienating." Why don't you folks stop demanding the state act on your preferences and instead work the culture? I think that has worked in the pro-life field. But seriously, two dudes "marrying" probably hurts marriage as much as Newt Gingrich divorcing like crazy.

442 " I see removing marriage from the state as the only way to save it." LOL, has anyone tried this? No. States with libs want the state to be bigger and control marriage for their aims. States with so-cons want the state to be bigger and control marriage for their aims. Thus no one has tried this. So-cons would scream if their precious marriage wasn't done by the state. Its funny, for people who love their church, they seem to want state bureaucrats to give their church's activities the stamp of approval. Way back when gay marriage was a conservative position, we could have run with this and been the party of progress. Nope. And now, if we tried that, we would get the "if I can't play by my rules, I'm taking my ball home"

Well first off this site has never been in favor of gay marriage.  It has always been overwhelmingly negative towards it.

And also you would not have to be worried about there not being many social conservatives opposing the return of marriage to the church.  It would be the gay marriage advocates that would be overwhelmingly opposed to that.  Not all those "nasty bigot" social conservatives you just despise.

And you don't feel alienated because the pro-life position is the position of the party and you know that going in.  That you seem bewildered that people in the party that hold the positions of the party are unhappy with those that are attempting to change the positions does not speak highly of your intelligence.

Gay Marriage is just a political tool to push normalization for Homosexual activity.  If you will research it, you will discover it will not remain tamed inside of any boundaries.   Check out Zombietime's  experience with the homosexual movement in San Fransisco.  If you think your compromise with these people will solve anything, you simply don't understand the nature of what you are dealing with.

463 Why would I want to weep when I read Heinze's article? That's a hell of a stronger and more attractive field than the Democrats can gin up. It's also missing a few possible candidates, like Perry and Cruz and of course X the unknown. But who's the Democrat frontrunner? The brain and Benghazi-damaged grandma with her Mrs Magoo glasses? The lunatic-is-in-my-brain grandpa VP? The give-me-your-guns-or-else Mafia don in the New York statehouse? Or the Cherokee commissar of stock market crashes? You think the Obama machine will cart the inmates of halfway houses and mental institutions to polling stations to elect any of them? You think any of them will get 98% of the black and 70% of the Hispanic vote? I don't. What's to weep about? What candidate is more ideologically pure AND stands any chance of actually winning?

464 No, his idea of work is to throw a hysterical, effeminate, hissy fit at anyone who disagrees with him. Yet another reason why homosexuals will have no cred with me ever.

Fine. Do it your way. You are losing and will lose, and then the state will make your churches bow down. And I will laugh and laugh and laugh, and then cry, that because you were so short-sighted you gave your enemy the rope to hang you.

I know that is your perception of what is happening, but what I see is the disintegration of the entire system with various social issues being merely symptoms of the larger problem.

The public mindset has been manipulated over decades by the power of Leftists in the media.  You naively think that getting rid of some policy position objectionable to the Liberals is going to win.

They will simply pick another, and make that the new intolerable condition.

466 "I live in California. The crazy gay stuff is contained to SF. Fayetteville, AR is the gay capital of the south...do they have this stuff? No. "

The South won't put up with that shit.

By the way, SF has crazies of the non-gay kind too. It seems to attract them.

You may not realize it, but it all goes together.    There is a bigger picture that many people just can't see.  It helps to study history.

Your study of history has availed you little given that you seemed to have learned either nothing or (alternately) the wrong set of lessons from it.

468 460 SexyPig,

I notice you have not taken the middle way of getting widened support for it by demanding protections for Churches and believers from LawFare....

why?

I support putting the issue to bed, but I want the majority opinion of the coalition at least shown respect.

469 OK, well, if this site is pure so-con 100% of the time, then its time for me to leave. I think Ace needs to post something about this so that us non-believers can understand this is a Christian only website. Maybe replace the pirate stuff with crosses and Jesus.

Posted by: sexypig at March 01, 2013 10:59 AM (dZQh7)

And now who is talking about taking their football and going home?

It is not a Religious issue for me.  There are very good secular reasons for not normalizing what is, in reality, a perverted behavior.  There are also good tactical reasons for not doing so.  Homosexual behavior is in fact a threat to society. Did you miss the entire AIDS epidemic from the 1980s?

Are you aware that the Homosexual community constitutes the largest repository of dangerous sexually transmitted diseases? They still aren't permitted to donate blood for this very reason.  I could go on and on, but I think you aren't really interested in discussing the base line facts of this issue because you consider this issue an impediment to winning politically.

Not much point in discussing the reality with someone who feels this way.

470 465 DiogenesLamp,

Yup...witness Safndy Fluck and TGs...

the military is an organization that has to have razor sharp focus on mission oriented solutions and encourages sublimation of individual identity to the whole to promote unit cohesiveness.....so now that it has to weather integrating homosexuals and Bisexuals into a dynamic social environment under great pressure at times....it is the perfect time to try to force the introduction of people so individualistic they make a spectacle of themselves.

The funny thing is this forces me away from my moderation on the topic with concern to civilians.

The comic sop my son perused has a TG clerk that is sometimes a bit outspoken but I was friendly to and maintained my patronage of the shop I am so bogoted...

of course my son asked some questions and got answers....the pretty snowflake being pretty in that environ is a social pressure but not beyond trying to bear....

my son dreams of being a Coastie Crash Diver or a door gunner in the US Army....

pretty snowflakes without their gameface on there can get him killed if he gets his dream...

And what lesson do  you think I should have learned from history?  That a temporary modern fad will defeat several thousand years of human history?

That's not a bet I would take.

472 Pat Brady as IL GOP Chairman, got his butt kicked state wide in the 2012 elections. Who cares if he raised $$$$. GOP and Brady got thier but kicked in a bad economy also

Before the November vote the IL Senate was 35-24 Dem. After 40-19 Dem and a super majority.

Dems led the State House 64-54, now 71-47 Dem Super M.

GOP lost 5 US House Seats to go with that.

How the Hell did Pat Brady do a great Job, Gabriel ?????

Because he supports gay marriage.  Duh.  That trumps actual results every day.

474 472 jackJ,

if nothing else he had the chance to have had organized the state GOP to be ready to capitalize on the likely implosion of IL finances...

"luckily" he took the chance to throw a grenade in his nice newly organized tent...

Or if you were smart, you would recognize that the whole point of gay marriage as the Obama Party is running it now is to make churches bow down, and oppose it accordingly.

Pat Brady is an imbecile. His own state of Illinois contains the best example so far of the point of gay marriage, aka idiot Alderman Joe Moreno banning  Chik-Fil-A from operating because of their CEO's views on gay marriage, and he comes out in support of it? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

476 The whole of Gay Marriage has nothing to do with freedom and equality, it is all about destroying the Church.

Plain and simple

What's really troubling - though academic, at this point, given the general collapse in standards, self-respect, and common sense in civic affairs - is that smart folks like Gabe who are non-idiotic on most issues indulge in the same sort of ridiculous non-reasoning approach on their pet issue that actually is at the root of our general troubles.

Marriage is the oldest existing human institution, that probably predates the "state" itself.  If a culture wants to define marriage a certain way - and all of them have always done it essentially the same way (BTW, plural marriage cultures have a very boring and practical basis - back before the comparative plenty of modern economies, that is - for that variation:  widows and their children would starve without a husband) - then that's what marriage is.

Equality under the law is entirely separate - and if you don't get that, then you're probably someone who doesn't guffaw and laugh at the idea of "hate crimes" or affirmative action, or any of the other absurd and indefensible atrocities that are direct and complete contradictions of the whole logic and spirit of our legal system.  With civil unions or whatever they're called, what remains to satisfy the equal justice under law requirement?

There should be no "marriage penalty", or the reverse, or anything else, in the tax system.  So there should be no need to play games with what marriage is to satisfy unexamined emotionally-charged shallow concepts of equity - just fix the tax code.  The culture's definition of marriage has nothing to do with it.

The "gay marriage" absurdity nicely encapsulates the collapsed standards of our time.  A "feel good" issue for many, a strictly self-serving narcissistic drama for most directly affected, all depending on a lack of logic or seriousness in applying legal philosophies, doused with a huge amount of arrogance and sometimes thuggishness.  A culture defines things like marriage.  The catastrophe of the judiciary's outrageous usurpation of power and authority in American society is no where more evident than in this cultural question that is being pushed on an uninterested and unwilling country by lawfare and the same pop culture/"education"/Leviathan mentality that is cretinizing and impoverishing us in every other arena.

478 I ain't votin' for any pro-same-sex "marriage" people. Or any pro-abortion people. Or donating to them, or talking them up, or hanging out with them, or doing anything else for them.

Just not gonna do it. If that means sitting out 2016, then I'll sit out 2016.

479 Even assuming the key players run and the fringe riff raff elements don't run there still are the harsh demographic realities of the putative "base." Then there are the related problems of the early contests and their particularly-detached demographics: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah bork bork   Posted by: Tsar Nicholas II at March 01, 2013 07:49 AM (r2PLg)
