Happy Friday!

Ohio Sen. Portman announced last night that he has had a change of heart on the issue of gay marriage, owing to his son's coming out. Portman explained, "I had a very personal experience, which is that my son came to Jane, my wife, and I and said he was gay and that it was not a choice, and that's just part of who he is and he'd been that way for as long as he could remember." Portman is the first GOP senator to support gay marriage while still in office.

In a sort of related note, the CEI-sponsored "Rainbow on the Right" panel at CPAC was standing room only last night. Jonah Goldberg -- "marriage is a conservatising institution" -- was probably my favorite speaker, with Margaret Hoover's economics-based argument for marriage equality a close second. Jimmy LaSalvia, Jen Rubin, and Liz Mair also did great jobs. The decision to invite Donal Trump to speak at CPAC seems to have impelled many to reevaluate their stance on GOProud and gay inclusion.

I will be at CPAC again today, though probably with even fewer updates than yesterday. Did you know that there are people making speeches here? A lot of speeches.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Friday, March 15, 2013.  On this day in 1783 George Washington effectively ended the Newburgh Conspiracy with an emotional speech to his troops.  Political agents believed to be from the Confederation Congress had circulated a letter among the troops urging what amounted to a coup dÂ’etat.

38 It will be interesting to see what happens to the GOP in the next few years.  It isn't just Young Turks against the Old Guard.  There are disagreements even among those camps.  For example, there are opposing points of view between the libertarians (Paul) and the more establishment types (Rubio) on gay marriage.  I suspect we'll end up with a "civil unions, but don't call it marriage" solution that will please nobody, but allow everybody to stay united.  Good.

Good morning, all.  Thanks for the morning briefing, Gabe and Vic.  And Vic, no need to apologize; thanks for everything you do.

His name is mostly forgotten now, but in the silent and early talkie days, George Arliss was a very popular star, loved for his portrayals of historical characters (Disraeli being his specialty).

In his 1931 film, The Millionaire, James Cagney has a small role as a brash life insurance salesman.  Producer Daryl Zanuck had signed him for the role after seeing the swaggering, confident Cagney on Broadway, but when he watched the rushes, he was shocked; Cagney was uncomfortable in his role and seemed intimidated by the camera.  Then, suddenly, assuming a scene was over, the actor curled his lip in disgust and snapped, “For GodÂ’s sake, who wrote this crappy dialogue, anyway?”

That was when Zanuck realized CagneyÂ’s forte would be as a tough, young punk.  As soon as shooting on The Millionaire wrapped, Zanuck rewarded Cagney with his first big film, The Public Enemy, and the actor was on his way to screen immortality.

Enemy as well as other classics like The Roaring Twenties, Angels With Dirty Faces and, of course, White Heat solidified Cagney’s on-screen image, so much so that a crewman at Warners once told him, “Off-screen, you’re very quiet and unassuming, but when you get on there, you’re a pretty boisterous fella.”

“Yes, I guess that’s true,” Cagney admitted.

“So,” the crewman went on, “when are you acting – on-screen, or off?”

And thatÂ’s it for me.  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Oh – and since we spent time yesterday on VicÂ’s car thread talking about favorite rides – hereÂ’s one of mine:  http://tinyurl.com/ccjs9nw

That's always made sense to me, and I really don't see where you need to change any laws to do it.  Right now two people can go to any attorney (or probably even a paralegal) and draw up a partnership agreement that makes any kind of arrangement they would want, so why do we need to change the laws or write new ones?

There are other things that are not just at the behest of the two participants, and that usually involve government, for example pensions and medical care.  That's a big thing, because it conveys an official imprimatur to the union and commitment of resources, which is where lots of people draw a line.

I agree with you about this.  The left has, what 69,105 stations devoted to spouting its message?  And now we have half a one with (theoretically) one more on the way?  Yes, yes, I realize the left would consider the playing field balanced as is, but still.

Seriously, I don't work for Glenn Beck, but has everyone here at least tried to get The Blaze on their cable system?  Even if you don't love/like Beck and what he does, it's another serious attempt at getting a conservative/libertarian-leaning network (one with an already decent web presence) some wider exposure.  If you go to gettheblaze.com, it explains what you need to do.  I subscribe, and some of the content is pretty good--far from perfect, but even the less-than-great stuff is better than what you get from most of the "major" networks these days.

The problem with civil unions is government wealth redistribution benefits, among other things.  There is a whole body of regulations concerning SS benefits, insurance, child support etc.  Since I don't care what you do in your (supposedly) private life as long as you don't expect me to applaud you for being a really special snowflake, I think civil unions are a reasonable way to go and I view myself as a social conservative.  It would take some time to sort out the legal aspects related to benefits and civil unions, so the lawyers should be good to go for years, but it beats redefining marriage and forcing churches to sanction anything but whatever definition of marraige they choose.

ITA, Miss Marple. The push for marriage equality seems more about creating a tool that can be used to punish and harass any individual, business, or institution (churches, boy scouts) that doesn't fall in line with the GLBT agenda. Also, it will not end with SSM. Years ago Cass Sunstein wrote about how it would pave the way for other types of unions, such as polygamy. And then what, child brides and cousin marriages? To think the Lefty social engineers will be satisfied with just SSM is foolish.

Now looks like I will have to rush an application through.  No offices anywhere close to me either.  I have to go somewhere where there is sunshine first to get to a road that will eventually get me there.

The subtext of gay marriage is the approval and acceptance (at the point of a gun if necessary) of any and all GLBTQWERTY behaviors and forcing traditional churches to perform and sanction what could (and should) be a civil union between consenting adults.  If civil unions/contracts were generally recognized outside the church, this should provide a reasonable defense against this, but I expect the lawfare to continue since there is "social justice" involved.

What I believe we would see, is that a lot of gay people, the real ones, not the rabid activists, don't really see much of an advantage to getting tagged with  their partners' government funded benefits.  Some very small few, but certainly not all.

What would more likely happen is gay people will go to their own churches, get married, and leave the state out of it.  Or ask the state for protection, in allowing for hospital visits, child adoption, etc,  and not being so concerned about the financial benefits.

115 It's funny how, if you purchase a home in some locations, there will be restrictive covenants that deprive you of freedom. To hang your laundry outside, for example, because some people really find that offensive and doesn't make the neighborhood particularly attractive, especially when it's done in the front yard. Now I don't find it particularly offensive, just I'd rather not see my neighbors laundry or underwear fluttering in my face every day. I'm the same way with peoples sexual preferences or whether their son or daughter is going to breed or not. To see a continual discussion about it fluttering in my face everyday is annoying and the people who want to exert that freedom tedious.

124 #87  In the Catholic Church marriage is a sacrament, ordained by God.

There are churches which now will perform same sex marriages.  And yes,  most couples would go to those.

But this is not about those people.  It is about providing an excuse for activists to undermine the other churches (and most particularly the Catholic Church) by forcing a confrontation.

Cardinal George of Chicago said he expects to die in his bed,  his successor to die in prison,  and that man's successor to die a martyr.

SO that is where I think we are heading.

136 So, let's see if I have this right. You hold a certain act or acts to be detrimental to a healthy society and may cause further erosion of an already threatened decline in respect for the rule of law and other institutions. but once you find that a member of your family participates in similar acts, suddenly this changes your attitude 180°?

To me this is like finding out your son is a philanderer (or other similar non life threatening violation of law or morals) and now you say that cheating on your wife should be okey dokey.

Is that about what passes for convictions these days?

It seems inevitable that the gays will get their wish and that society will be the poorer. Not so much because gays can now marry but that society has been told that it can't set the laws it wants or regulate contracts between adults the way it wishes and that it will have to accept other even more extreme and repugnant couplings because the laws have been found to be unfair and unconstitutional.

I also want to hear from you all who favor this change when it turns out that gays will now demand (under the cloak of equal rights) that the Catholic Church (or any church for that matter) HAS to perform a marriage ceremony for them or face massive penalties.

Gays have already done this will secular activities. How can anyone not expect this to be the next step.

Gay marriage has NEVER been about LOVE it's been about hate and spite against the Church and it's refusal to acquiesce in the stampede to approve of that which it has fundamental reasons to not do so.

Bon Appetit to you all. What's coming up will be hard to swallow for most but we'll be stuck with it then. No take backs.

Posted by: Vic at March 15, 2013 04:13 AM (53z96)

161 :::119 Do you think everyone who has a son come out gay has been a bad father. That would seem to be a great oversimplification. If someone coming out gay was because someone was a bad father how is then that bad parenting doesn't lead to all sons in a family being gay? :::: If your child has to "come out" to you as gay, as in you had so little idea of what was going on in your child's life with his relationships, who or if he's dating, his thoughts on dating, etc. - then yeah. I think it's safe to say that you are uninvolved or uninterested enough in your child's life to qualify as a "bad parent." Of course, as self-centered as these fucking politicians are, it would not surprise me that it took boning dudes for this kid to get his daddy's attention. Daddy issues - they're not just for girls.

Posted by: Empire of Jeff at March 15, 2013 04:14 AM (JDIKC)

162 Well, I disagree. For gay people I know who want to get married or are married under their state rules it is about love as a number of these couples have been married for much longer that many straight people I know. For some extreme activists , though, it's also punishing churches who dare to consider their lifestyle sinful. Me, I would be quite content to perform NO marriages. It is a the rare couple who actually understands about Christian marriage since most of the marriages I have done have been for people who hadn't regularly been attending church in years. They want to get married in a cute little church with all the trappings. You might as well have a clergyperson as a cardboard figure and the responses nf tape for all the religious significance means to them. It's about the dresses and the reception. If you asked most clergypeople and they were honest the clergy people would tell you that they much prefer to do funerals-not because they're morbid people-but because there's much more of a chance to preach the Gospel because people are listening and not thinking about how lovely everybody in the wedding party looks and what the reception will be like

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at March 15, 2013 04:14 AM (g7q64)

163 Personally, I could care less about gay marriage. Economics is my principle concern, and has been since I had kids. Don't want them growing up in Mad Max-land. If you believe the activists are going to quit once they get their goal of gay marriage, consider Sharpton and Jackson. Agitators don't quit when they achieve their goals; they find new goals and keep agitating. Otherwise they might actually, you know, have to get a JOB.

In other news, our State Dept is passing on a hearing today on human rights abuses in Iran, where they should be demanding the release of the imprisoned American pastor. Gee, I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the SCOAMTT administration Dept of State deleted religious freedom as a human right? Remember how at the time of our ambassador and three other Americans were being tortured and killed in Benghazi, Susan Rice was tweeting her lament about a gay pride parade being canceled in some part-Muslim Baltic state? And then there is the State Dept's classified ads to hire security in Libya, inviting what the locals would consider to be perverts of all stripes. Sexual preference and identity protection is an objective of our State Dept, but religion not so much. Someone should tell the poor pastor to claim he's in critical need of his gender reassignment hormones and Iran is denying his requirements.

" Cruz's question was brilliant for its simplicity. Simply take the concept of what they are doing and apply it elsewhere. Durbin's comment about rights not being absolute, that was classic. So there is no absolute right to not be murdered or robbed or raped? Really, in which circumstance is this ever ok? So we don't actually have free speech, only the free speech you have granted us today. This would explain their mindset behind the fairness doctrine. They truly don't see the power as being vested with the people. Let's just pass laws willy nilly and see what gets through SCOTUS. But for SCOTUS to even look at the law we the people have to spend a truck load of money filing lawsuits to get them to take a look at it... and then that leads to the partisan nature of SCOTUS. The concept of blind justice is a joke. It's really hard not to be a doomsayer. I know it's a cliché thing to say, but this really just seems a good vs. evil battle.

Morning all!

This might have been linked    already at the HQ    (even in this thread),    but   it really can't be discussed enough:

Sequester Do-Over: Fed Recapture 4 Illegals Released Under Budget Cuts

Washington Times: http://tinyurl.com/cfdztmq

...U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton testified to Congress that his agency released 10 “level one” offenders, and has gone out and apprehended four of them. He said the other six are nonviolent.

Oh, I see.   So even though you released ten "level one" offenders, you captured four of them, so that means you should get brownie points.   What, the other six?  Oh, they're not that important.   Yes, true, they're also level one offenders, but so what?  They're NONVIOLENT.

Just FYI, a level one offender in the world of immigration is as follows:

Level I offenders: aliens convicted of"aggravated felonies," as defined in § IOI{a){43) ofthe Immigration and Nationality Act,3 or two or more crimes each punishable by more than one year. commonly referred to as "felonies"  (http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/releases/2010/civil-enforcement-priorities.pdf)

But it's okay, because the six other level one offenders don't pose any kind of real threat.   Or something.

...Mr. Morton also acknowledged that overall, 2,228 immigrants were released — far more than the several hundred the agency had initially acknowledged. Of those, 629 had criminal records, though Mr. Morton said they were low-level offenders...

Oh, okay again.   So besides misrepresenting the number of illegals -- not immigrants, btw; ILLEGALS -- who were released back onto American    streets by a factor of ten, you also released more than six hundred with criminal records.

"Oh, it's okay.   They're low-level offenders."

That's great.   I'll remember that the next time one rams the back of my car and doesn't have insurance to cover the repairs.  I'll be sure to send my higher premium bills to you, Mr. Morton.

250 Public Enemy as well as other classics like The Roaring Twenties, Angels With Dirty Faces and, of course, White Heat solidified Cagney’s on-screen image, so much so that a crewman at Warners once told him, “Off-screen, you’re very quiet and unassuming, but when you get on there, you’re a pretty boisterous fella.”

“Yes, I guess that’s true,”
Cagney admitted.

“So,” the crewman went on, “when are you acting – on-screen, or off?”

And thatÂ’s it for me. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

334 Stolen from Facebook:

In the year 2013, the Lord came unto Noah, Who was now living in America and said:
"Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me."
"Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing along with a few good humans."

He gave Noah the blueprints, saying:
"You have 6 months to build theArk before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."
Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard - but no Ark."Noah!," He roared, "I'm about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?"

"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed."
"I needed a Building Permit."
"I've been arguing with the Boat Inspector about the need for a sprinkler system."

"My homeowners association claim that I've violated the
Neighborhood by-laws by building the Ark in my back yard and exceeding the height limitations. We had to go to the local Planning Committee for a decision."

"Then the City Council and the Electricity Company demanded a shed load of money for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark's move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear none of it."

"Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban on cutting local trees in order to save the Greater Spotted Barn Owl."
"I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!"

"When I started gathering the animals, PETA took me to court. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodations were too restrictive and
it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space."

"Then the Environmental Protection Agency ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on Your proposed flood."

"I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew."

"The Immigration Dept. Is checking the visa status of most of the people who want to work."
"The labor unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only union workers with ark-building experience."

"To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species."
"So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this ark."

Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine and a rainbow stretched across the sky.

Noah looked up in wonder and asked, "You mean you're not going to destroy the world?"

"No," said the Lord. " The Government beat me to it."

341 Maybe I'm wrong but can't gays get married now? I mean, surely in every state there exists some liberal church that will perform a ceremony? Are they saying the only thing that makes them married is a license from the state? How did people ever get married prior to state licensing? Were they not in fact married? To me, gay marriage has always been about getting government benefits and spousal health coverage for health insurance. But you can get pretty much every gov't benefit if marriage except the lower tax rate already through normal legal channels and tons of companies already offer domestic partner benefits. And gov't sanctioned gay marriage seems like it will overrun 1st amendment religious freedom by forcing Christian companies to provide domestic partner benefits in the same way Zero-care is trying to force them to provide abortifacients etc. Finally, someone please explain the relevant government public policy argument that it should support gay marriage in the same way it supports heterosexual marriage. Where are the overarching benefits to society in promoting gay marriage?

346 The State Department is ducking a hearing Friday that will focus on the case of imprisoned American pastor Saeed Abedini, just days after the leading U.S. representative to the U.N. Human Rights Council declined to specifically address the pastor’s case during a meeting on Iran’s human rights record. Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., chairman of the Capitol Hill commission holding the hearing, slammed the Obama administration for turning down the invitation to testify. “It is amazing,” Wolf told FoxNews.com. “I can’t, almost, believe it.” The hearing will focus on the plight of religious minorities in Iran. Slated to testify are the group representing the Abedini family in the U.S. as well as Abedini’s wife, Naghmeh. The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission reached out to the State Department last Friday in a bid to bring in a State Department witness to speak on the lead-off panel. A Wolf aide said despite repeated attempts they didn’t hear back from the department until Thursday, when the department said no one was available. Wolf voiced skepticism at the excuse. “The building is loaded with people,” he said of the State Department. “The very fact that the United States government is not speaking out sends a very powerful message,” Wolf said. Another obama foreign policy victory

I heard about this on the radio this morning. If a family member coming out is what it takes to move you from opposing to supporting SSM, you never really opposed SSM. You may have thought you did, but you didn't have the philosophical grounding that allowed you to support or oppose it either way The logic behind DOMA doesn't change just because now you're affected by it. If the logic of DOMA is sound, then it is sound even if a child is gay. If the logic of DOMA isn't sound, you shouldn't have voted for it in the first place.

If gay people want to fall in love and get married and commit for life - I don't really care.  Live your life.  Be happy.  (As I christian, I don't think God is OK with it - but he's not OK with a lot of things we're doing down here - living together without marriage, divorce for non-adultry reasons, remarriage afer divorce, etc)

However, the REAL problem I think is the casual way everyone approaches relationships - in and out - easy peasy.  This is what is really damaging our society.   Divorce is not everyone's fault - marriage takes two, but divorce really only takes one, doesn't it?  Still, our casual approach to relationships is really bad for society and for freedom, ultimately.

375 Now, now. Gay conservatives are small government types. They only support a government large enough to force everyone else to celebrate their "lifestyle", and no larger.

Now this I don't agree with.

Conservatives who identify themselves as gay tend, for the most part, to be conservative in most things.  Are they pro- gay marriage?   Many of them are, yes, but not all.  To be a conservative is generally to be anti-big government, and the "federal" gay marriage    issue is the ultimate in big government.  Gay conservatives would choose    more often to pursue    their goals of gay marriage at the state level, as would be more appropriate.

I would far rather have a gay conservative on my side     than a gay regressive.   The former will generally identify as conservative first, gay second.     They're as American as    anyone else.       The latter will always, ALWAYS be gay first and foremost, and will demand your unyielding    acceptance and endorsement     thereafter, and fuck what it means for the country.      They're    a cancer.

Sort of like "We consider the following behavior to be abnormal and abhorrent" I've never heard that stance, as a general thing, from the homosexual community. If you're going to claim that sexuality and marriage are things just made up by people and "societal norms," it's really hard to argue against any other form of sexual deviancy. And here's why I cannot (at current) support Government "just getting out" of marriage: It wouldn't happen. Oh, Government might stop keeping marriage licenses, but soon enough someone would say "I want to get married in the [insert your congregation here], and they won't let me!" and the Government would say, "You can let them get married, or we can shut you down. Pick one."

415 The gay-rights movement was founded with the objective of destroying marriage and heterosexual society, and stated so openly. It has pushed, and has continued pushing, the objective of destroying heterosexual society by undermining "heteronormativity" in gender studies courses and "queer theory" courses in colleges---then walking back this material into high schools and elementary schools as "increased sex education" over a period of thirty-plus years. In the meantime, "marriage" has gone from the movement's must-destroy to the movement's must-have. It is not about protection for same-sex relationships---otherwise, would not the strongest domestic-partnership protections in the nation have been sufficient for the activists in California? No---they had to have the word "marriage". After decades of loudly trumpeting their difference from the larger society, the movement now demands that same larger society concede, not merely similarity, but identicalness---and invent a totally new form of marriage to achieve this. Does anyone notice the disconnect? The reason for the push for "marriage" is that this will provide a platform for further movement attack on First Amendment protections. Already the gay-rights movement, by popularizing the term "hate speech," has done major work to gut the First Amendment. Already same-sex couples are suing private businesses which decline to provide services for same-sex weddings. Within ten years, traditional religions (and those who practice them) will be under attack for "hate speech."

I can't tell. Possibly not, but all they'd have is those two swearing under oath.

The problem (as I understand it) is that the jury was or less told to take the cops word as truth because he was a cop, and not treat it like any other testimony.

Also, the cop was ordered (presumably by his commanding officer) to record the interrogation but for some odd reason decided not to.

If I'm reading Popehat correctly the 9th circuit's ruling basically affirms that all testimony is equal and can be called into question by attacking one's credibility.

Given that, there's more than "reasonable doubt" here (since there's an complete lack of other evidence.)  So even if she is guilty, our justice system can't really determine that.

Which I should add is a good thing.  The alternative is the supreme court ruling just a few days back that no matter how unreliable a drug dog is, it is to be trusted because it's "trained" and "certified."  That's bad law.

"A tiny aberrant minority." Agree. And the numbers have also been exaggerated yet repeated in the media.

It is an agenda since civil rights. If the Catholic Church ever folds to the issue then GLTransgenders will finally feel success. Other Protestant denominations are dividing---today---over the issue. To be biblically sound or politically correct? When I read a book (The Gay Gospel by Joe Dallas) regarding this unified agenda/lobby, I learned there have been books written of the gay lovers, Jonathan and David; that scripture is twisted to the point that Jesus healed a Roman centurian's lover who was ill, etc, (there is NO evidence either Jonathan, David or the Roman centurian were homosexuals). Well, I finally (recently) woke up to the mindset and brainwashing of their agenda. Until then I did not care what people did as long as they were not in the street scaring the horses. I still do not care what people do in their own homes. I do care, however, in twisting scripture to authorize and condone gay marriage. I am fine with civil unions. And, let me be clear, I have family members who are gay as well as friends. If they asked me, and they won't, I will tell them I am not ok with gay marriage.

This is a sign of our times: when it takes courage to speak out against gay marriage or be viewed as a bigot, or an old-fashioned Bible-thumper. The Bible, in plain language, does not condone sodomy, adultery, liars, thieves, or incest (to name a few sins). So, I could be cheating on my husband with my nephew, lying to him about what I am doing, while robbing liquor stores to have booze at the motel where I am meeting college nephew for a fling. That would be sinful---you don't pick a sin and say it is ok like a Bible buffet. Yet, in this planned agenda to make gay marriage ok, they argue that the word "homosexual" is not in the Bible. They are correct, but the language is clear you are not to have intercourse with the same sex as men and women in marriage. Jesus said, on the subject which is in both Testaments, that marriage is between a man and a woman. That is clear enough for me.

445 like, it's OK for people to just say they're for it cuz they think of it as a right. but conservatives always have to dress it up with some "creative" argument or verbiage so their argument is somehow cooler than the Left's, even though the conclusion is exactly the same. not even gonna talk about the "federalism" argument which is just code for "i'm for same-sex marriage but i don't wanna admit it. federalism on marriage in either direction on this issue is incoherent

446 I'm religious, (religious here meaning "believing in a higher power"-though I spent almost a decade in catholic schools-thank God I can actually read unlike some public school graduates). But read strictly the Bible condemns so many things from pork to cunninglus that we are not just sinners by nature, but also terrible ones. So I admire those Protestant denominations that have awakened to the (crazy, I know) idea that maybe gays are born gay like us straights. Maybe they want to talk about sex just like us heterosexuals (certainly many of us younger folks) talk about it. And maybe they want to get married to. For the record, I tend to mostly comment on gay issues because lets face it-I vote GOP as they are the only ones I trust with my number one issue-national security. It's no fun commenting on issues I agree 100% on with conservative Morons. So, Ghey Rights it is

448 “The pursuit of being liked can be the greatest prison you ever put yourself into, because you will be afraid to be who you really are. You will be trying to assess what everyone wants you to be, and you’ll end up thinking that who you are isn’t good enough. I know it is hard because we are all raised wanting to be loved. Many people compromise their core beliefs in pursuit of it. But once you know what you believe, once you have established your core, stick with it.”

449 "448 Danny So I admire those Protestant denominations that have awakened to the (crazy, I know) idea that maybe gays are born gay like us straights." If they ever identify genetic markers that indicate an increased likelihood of gay offspring, those nice libs will abort all potential gay offspring, just like they do to disabled offspring. If homosexuality is just a birth defect, why not?

450 451-My little sister has Down's. My mother knew thanks to a sonogram and she kept the pregnancy. Liberals can do as they please, but if God gave me a gay child I'd be more than happy to raise a good hearted, patriotic American. I could be wrong, but Christian revelation regards the individual accepting Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. This decision has nothing to do with sexual orientation. Again, I could be wrong, but the idea is that faith saves. Thats why I know a couple of Christian girls that are way more religious than I (know Bible verses off the top of their head, one teaches Sunday school) who also engage in premarital sex. So is gay sex worse just because it's gay? That sounds pretty inconsistent.

Posted by: Danny at March 15, 2013 08:17 AM (7gQG5)

451 450-So I guess Rush's Oxy habits were also part of him not "caring about being liked?"

Posted by: Danny at March 15, 2013 08:20 AM (7gQG5)

452 For the record, I think Rush is highly intelligent, but I tend to take drug users with a grain of salt. And considering I only vote (R), but support some kind of amnesty, believe in the 2nd amendment and support gay rights-I sure as hell am not looking to be liked

Posted by: Danny at March 15, 2013 08:24 AM (7gQG5)

453 Morality aside: The argument that being gay is not a choice is fallacious. If someone said, "I'm a drunk, but it's not a choice," they would be laughed at. Rightly. Genetic propensity or not, the action is a choice. Saying it's not a choice is saying you're a robot without free will. I have no need to empathize for automatons.

454 I'm told that "Gayness isn't about sex". Wel, what the hell is it about then?

Posted by: Damn Sockpuppet at March 15, 2013 08:52 AM (YmPwQ)

455 Well sure, having gay sex is a choice. So is having straight sex. The inclination to do so is not. And please, spare me the "reproduction" arguments. It's incredibly asisnine to make this assertion in light of how often sex is used for pleasure. When a country punishes someone as an infidel for having consensual straight sex, or forbids interracial/religious marriages we say that country is a "backward Islamic country." Rightly so.

Posted by: Danny at March 15, 2013 09:24 AM (bQdEU)

456 Gayness is about two children of God being who God made them, balanced against who they themselves have become. Think about it from our perspective:for some of us straights its all about fucking drunk sorority girls/frat boys; for others it's all about falling in love and procreating. The way Morons and Moronettes see the world is a bit different (suck it Naomi Wolf). Same with gays and straights. So yes being gay is about different things for different people.

Posted by: Danny at March 15, 2013 09:31 AM (bQdEU)

457 When a man and a woman have intercourse, they can make a baby. When two men have sex, they create a disease. Proven fact. I don't care about God. It violates the laws of nature. People can do whatever the hell they want behind closed doors. Don't open the fucking door, show everyone and demand that I accept it.

458 Through Obamacare we'll have to pay for all of the medical problems associated with homosexuality. Dick infections, years of impacted feces in the urethra, incontinence, and of course AIDS. No thanks.

Posted by: Libtardo at March 15, 2013 09:59 AM (FMsYN)

459 I would like to thank Libtardo on assisting my diet today! I no longer want to eat upon knowing there is something like an impacted urethra. My eyes! I went temporarily blind the other day reading these words: Hillary/Michelle 2016. Now things are blurry again...

460 In other words, Sen. Portman's former stance on gay marriage was not based on any greater principle than political convenience, and his current stance is based on subjective, emotional grounds.

Posted by: DHM at March 15, 2013 10:29 AM (mhcif)

461 Danny, If all sex is a choice, then the orientation argument is bunk, automatically. DNA makes some people have a propensity toward drunkenness. It doesn't mean DUI is suddenly less a choice. And my point isn't to say anything about gayness. I find 'coming out' about sexuality utter nonsense. It's no one else's business. And IMHO, marriage shouldn't be a Federal issue. It should be properly defined by communities. If I were running for office, I would push for overturning 'any' Federal intrusion in marriage, just as I think abortion is a State issue. Instead of railing for federal protection for things the federal government should have 'no' ability to control, we should invoke the 10th Amendment and stand against all attempts of Federal Social Engineering.

Posted by: Shawn G at March 15, 2013 10:52 AM (/lltO)

462 Sorry Christy. But there aronsequences to "gayness "(some of which applies to male-female relations as well) that are forbidden to discuss. I don't want to outlaw anything , I just want people to stop insulting my intelligence.

Posted by: Libtardo at March 15, 2013 10:59 AM (xCh2P)

463 Libtardo-This might come as a utter shock to you...but plenty of straights have sex with no intention of reproduction. And while I am certainly a part of this category I don't for a second assume that there aren't an enormous amount of STDs that can happen as a result of straight sex. JDP-No the federal government doesn't need to define marriage under one standard. I hate it when liberals use that line to defend failing public school and a failing department of "education"- i.e. we need "national standards" and a government bureaucracy to maintain them. So no vouchers and other free market reforms. No no no. Nevada lets you marry a cousin, other states don't. It is what it is and this disparity hasn't resulted in chaos. And marriage in this country is incoherent as it is. Why do you think some of my Lance Corporal buddies get married (and the USMC divorce rate is so high)? BAH benefits baby! Let the government (preferably state) standardize certain "core benefits" (inheritance, etc-stuff that even libertarians like me can't ignore) and if a gay can find a church to marry them, then so be it.

464 I'd like to make something clear; I don't have anything against Gay people.

It's the Gay MOVEMENT and it's more militant and vocal membership that gets on my thungas.

That and what I said earlier.

Want to be gay and experiment sexually? Fine.

Want to turn that into a protected class with special and separate rights?

No thanks. Not when there's a dozen other different sexual preference groups just waiting for the gays to set the stage for THEIR being afforded THEIR particular play pen.

NO. THANKS.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at March 15, 2013 12:56 PM (qyv02)

465 The only "special right" I support is the right to get married, with all the benefits that entails. Two consenting adults, 18 +, of any race/class/orientation/religion being able to marry. Thats it.

Posted by: Danny at March 15, 2013 02:32 PM (eRDE9)

466 Absolutely you can get STDs from normal sex. If you don't watch where put your junk. The odds we much better that you'll catch something if you start with teh buttsecks. Also, if gender should not be regarded when it cones to marriage, why should the number of people involved be limited? What's so magical about number 2? Ridiculous, you say? Why?

Posted by: Libtardo at March 15, 2013 02:48 PM (WxJTH)

467 @473 you can marry anyone of the opposite sex you want. Just like everyone else.

Calling homosexual relationships "marriage" is like calling a duck  a hypotenuse.

No correlation.

468 Good thing Senator Portman's son didn't tell his dad that he occasionally fucks animals, or maybe he'd come out in support of bestiality.
