Happy Friday.

Pope Francis personally called his delivery guy to cancel his Buenos Aires newspaper subscription: "Seriously, itÂ’s Jorge Bergoglio, IÂ’m calling you from Rome."

The Obama administration hopes to bring NSA-style scanning of email, web traffic "closer to ordinary U.S. residents without triggering an outcry from privacy advocates" by using DHS as a middleman.

This sounds pretty far-fetched, though it's not hard to believe that neither man would yield when it came time to decide who would get to sit in the big chair.

Speaker Boehner's super-PAC has launched its first 2014 ads against Democrats who voted against the Ryan budget.

And in "It's a Weird, Weird World" news, Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo have submitted an amicus brief in the Prop 8 case (PDF) arguing in favor of marriage equality. It's kinduva weird brief.

2 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Friday, March 22, 2013.  On this day in 1972 Congress approved the equal rights amendment.  Thanks to Phyliss Schaefly it was never ratified by the States.  Not to be outdone by those scurrilous States who still thought it was 1802 and they had power, Congress simply passed legislation on their own to do the same thing.  They knew they had a liberal court in their back pocket.

36 Just checked out krauthammer's latest column. That man is way overrated. There are times when he is right, and there are times when he really comes across as an idiot. His position in immigration is incoherent inside the beltway crap. He thinks he is fucking so clever explaining that we can not deport everyone, so let's make them citizens. Bright idea, asshole, how about we don't deport, and don't make them citizens, but instead close the fucking border, enforce our visa's, tell the agg and business jerkoffs to hire Americans, and make it impossible for illegals to collect any form of handout. Explain why that is such a bad idea. What is the constituency for open borders, rewarding criminals, suppressing wages, and giving tax payer cash to foreigners? Who would vote against that? Anyway, in today's gem he compares himself to King Solomon in describing a compromise which raises taxes over 1 Trillion in 10 years. Compromise! Worst of it is, I think he just does not understand that eliminating tax loopholes, and sending more money to the treasury is a TAX increase. He seems to think it is found money. No Ch-ch-ch-arles, it is an increase in TAXES. Conservation of matter. What goes into the treasury comes from somewhere. /rant

45 The Chicago school closings made my local radio news.

In Indiana news,  Governor Pence,  proving that he is no Mitch Daniels,  is fighting with the Indiana legislature because he proposed a 10% tax decrease without getting agreement from the legislature, which is controlled by Republicans in both houses.

We already have a mechanism passed under Governor Daniels which rebates money if the surplus goes above a certain amount.  The legislature said they wanted to wait until they saw how things were shaking out with the economy and the results of Obamacare.   So Pence has made a big deal of this,  and then Americans for Prosperity started running ads attacking the legislature.

This is beyond stupid.

I am afraid Pence is going to be a flop if he doesn't get some negotiating skills pretty quick.  And to put your own party's people in this situation seems ridiculous to me.

Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  And thanks for the morning briefing, Gabe and Vic.

I like that story about the Holy Father; he seems to be following in the footsteps of John XXIII and John Paul I.  LetÂ’s hope he lives longer than those gentlemen.

So for todayÂ’s Hollywood lookback - I keep returning to Tallulah Bankhead, as there are quite a few stories about her, though they basically all have something to do with her near-omnisexual nature.*  One story, which may or may not be true, concerns the novelist Norman Mailer:

MailerÂ’s debut novel, The Naked and the Dead, came out in 1948.  For those who donÂ’t know, Naked is the story of a combat platoon in the Pacific Theater; while his publishers were enthused about the book, they were less enthused about MailerÂ’s dialogue and pressured him – this was 1948, remember – into changing the word “fuck” to “fug” wherever it appeared.**

The book was picked up by RKO in 1958 and, as happens with talented young writers, the studio flew Mailer out to Hollywood.  The story is that, at a party, Mailer was introduced to Bankhead.  “Oh, yes,” the star trilled, “youÂ’re the young man who canÂ’t spell ‘fuck!’”

And there we are.  If I can work up some energy this weekend, IÂ’ll be back on Monday with another “flop movie” story.  WeÂ’ll see.  And BTW, thanks to all of you whoÂ’ve purchased and / or left a review on Amazon of my novel The DirectorÂ’s Cut: A Theda Bara Mystery.  IÂ’m very grateful.

*“I donÂ’t know what I am, darling,” she once told an interviewer.  “The conventional position makes me claustrophobic and all the others either give me a stiff neck or lockjaw.”

**The 1960s satirical band The Fugs took their name from MailerÂ’s novel.

64 From the article on the Chicago school closings:

"Rahm Emanuel has become the ‘murder mayor.’ He is murdering public services,"

Jesse Jackson could take lessons in ridiculous, over the top rhetoric from this woman.  The article is rather sad, in that they mention parent's concerns that their kids will have to cross gang boundaries, potentially endangering them.  I feel for the kids, and for the parents, but doubt they'll ever make the connection between the politicians they elect and real world consequences.  Kids shouldn't have to pay the price for their folly, but they will.

77 Joe Biden's War- http://bit.ly/16N19OJ (AmSpec)

"BidenÂ’s record as a senator included his support for the nuclear freeze, cutting off funding for the Vietnam War (launching the infamous killing fields of Cambodia and the murderous overtaking of South Vietnam by the North), opposing the first Gulf War in 1991 and so onÂ… and so onÂ… and so on.

Now, as the sitting Vice President of the United States, the irony is that the Biden chickens are coming home to roost. North Korea is in fact threatening America with nuclear missiles, and now the U.S. government has to scramble to reverse the damage done to American missile defense done by BidenÂ’s work."

81 Have any of these brave academics ever put Mo the Pedophile (Piss Be On Him) on something to be defaced? Of course not. They're far to brave for something so pedestrian as that. ----- Reminds me of the time a script kiddie from Turkey defaced a web page on my site. They exploited a php script to insert a new index page on an area of my site that didn't have an index page to begin with, so I deleted theirs, and the exploitable script, and inserted a turbin bomb illustration with "Mohamed is a homosexual" caption, translated to Turkish. Left it up for about a year, and it was the #1 result at google during that time, for that phrase.

I didn't miss it.  The schools, for good are bad, must be closed because the money simply isn't there, thanks to the ridiculous demands of the union.  A better solution would be to keep the local schools, fire the incompetent teachers (probably at least 50% of them) and pay the others more, as long as there is real accountability for the results.

Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Right now they get tenure after 4 years, if the bill passes they will be eligible for 2, 3 or 4 year contracts after their first four years of employment are up. One cannot find God in reason and philosophy. One can only barely glimpse God through the eyes of selfless love of another. Yet in faith God can so easily be understood as the Source of all matter, mind, and personality. Faith confounds the intellectually brilliant. 214 You can not trust anything put out by NOAA on the temperature thing.  They have actually been altering past temperatures to make it look like warming.  In addition, they "normalize" current temperatures in a "secret matrix" that effectively increases the measured variables.

If you look at real raw numbers that are accurately measured we have been on a cooling trend since 1998.  Last year was supposed to be the hottest year on record according to NOAA.

Actual measured high temps in my yard for last year averaged 7° lower than the previous year.  So far they on track to be even lower this year.  We are currently running about 10° lower than the normal highs for this time of year.

We're well below also. Picked up a fairly fancy weather station rig in the early oughts that keeps a small database of w/speed, temp, rate of change, day/date/time, and rain. Pretty cool little toy, and mounted out of direct sun well above ground. The PTA has been an adjunct of the dipshits that have ruined the schools for at least 30 years.  Mrs Hate was a member of the local one and she was continually frustrated at dealing with the fuckheads.  The final straw was when the previously good principal at the elementary school, who could read the writing on the wall of what a shithole the place was becoming and got the hell out, had to be replaced.  They submitted a few candidates for the local PTA to scrutinize but it was like a choice of turd sammiches ranging from rabbit pellets to diarrhea.  The one they ended up with was an out of touch vag but she was the best of a garbage bunch.  None of the above was not an option.

233 I watch a lot of the HGTV fix up shows, too. The funny thing is, the more gay men I'm exposed to seeing, the less empathy I have for them. First off, they've got a lot of money to blow. Not having kids can do that. Second, they're kinda ugly and wear clothes that make me wanna puke. Hairy chest and wifebeater on a 50 year old dude? Yeah, that's a look. Third, they get all indignant at the slightest thing. The island isn't exactly where I wanted it!!! Angry as hell, all the time. So this attempt to make gays appear to be a larger proportion of the population and exposing more of the public to them might not actually endear them, and actually removes the 'fabulous' thing.

I'm sure it's more than half; don't misinterpret refusing to participate in that shit show as not being offended by it.

239 How come gay guys always sound gay? Why adopt a bizarre speech mannerism?

240 138, FenelonSpoke, no doubt the music touched the life within. I haven't read Nietzsche enough to say. But his Madman (Gay Science) quote is not glorifying the death of God, but bemoaning what bloody messes men create as if "reality" -- the only "real" reality permitted or inflicted, including the death of God as known to date, given evolutionary thought and the European progress of socialism. Historically, that revolutionary period of European ideological evolution during a confluence of global philosophies, spawned Marx's advancement from Rousseau's socialism, as well as the forfeiture of the Holy Roman Empire via Francis II/I. The question facing Americans remains, do we remain faithful to our Founder's genius, our symmetrically balanced Constitutional Governance that separates and limits powers per branch? Or do we accept in our lifetime the authoritarianism from which the US had defiantly arisen while advancing Liberty, and lose our essence, becoming a scourge, killing our "god" within, and allow the bloody authoritarian Washingtonian pawns of pirating global corporatism to gut us on their alter of Power? Standing afar, it seems that Europe is doomed to always remain ruled by its aristocracy, regardless whether by "divine right" or by socialist "might makes right" statist authoritarians. A few hundred years prior, the Europeans massacred each other based on which end of the egg Christian's broke, worshiping at the alter of God. And of course, the cruelty of forcing natives from "heathen" lands to convert to Christianity at the end of a sword is not so different than the current Islamist motivation for global dominance. Fast forward, European socialist states/empires killing those who won't think as the state mandates, State=God, to forfeit whatever independent liberty, knowledge and faith for the sake of remaining in this life on earth, to worship death as god. Naturally, a man of conscience questions such authoritative narratives, and contemplates his own. Did Nietzsche "hate God" the Holy Spirit of Light within each person, so much as he hated mankind's frauds perpetrated against each other in the quest for abusive power? Just how far are you willing to go, he asked himself. No? It took his madman to say god is dead. Ironic, that Nietzsche's imagery utilized "gay science" even if translated as "joyful science" seeing that since, "Scientism" has subsequently permeated the power structures of Western Civilization. Ex.: the "higher education" regime being discussed above. How does one conceive "Joy" if one denies the sensing entity that experiences Joy? You can't test Joy in a petri dish or under a microscope to "see". That application is reminiscent of descriptive beauty which Islamic texts attribute to God, while simultaneously terminating any connectivity of God with Humans. Pope John Paul II lamented that despite all the beautiful vocabulary and phraseology that the Koran utilizes when describing Allah, considering the faithful devotion of Muslims to Allah, there is no "God With Us" permitted. So the US Motto has been nullified from "In God We Trust" (or even trust within any "village" that it takes) to give it up to Big Brother. Trust has nothing to do with it. Obedient submission, dhimmis! The nation founded on Liberty, resulting after pilgrims sought a place to practice religious freedom (imperfectly but the best they knew, time allowing more tolerance), now dictates what is to be spoken, and what may not be said, regardless of place.

Yeah, it's why he's not getting anything from me this year.

I don't care what he thinks about religion, gay marriage, etc. etc. etc.  Those are his opinions and he's welcome to them.  I don't come here for his judgement of anything religious.  Or the movie reviews either...

What I care about is him not knowing what the fuck he's talking about, and then insulting my beliefs which he doesn't even understand in the first place.

242 Hey, at least your PTA worked on actual school issues. Ours only works on cash raising schemes involving car washes, door to door sales, and bake sales.

I got up and walked out of the first and last meeting I went to.

Yeah but it was only to give the fuckheads a bit of cover for their horrible choices by saying they approved of something they were forced to choose the lesser of evils.  Kind of like the Republican party.

244 241. Hm, when there's a mutual exchange of money for all concerned, commenters might be more apt to return a portion as an investment in the blog, or as a "membership fee". Meanwhile, as Breitbart said, it's for the comments.

Agreed. It's also incorrect. Equality means the things compared are equal. When homosexuals manage to procreate, then we'll talk.

Some do but not within the homosexual marriage. The complete reversal in the public opinion on homosexual marriage and related issues in the past six years is amazing. What happened? I missed whatever it was.

It's generational. Two decades of propaganda presented, mostly, as entertainment.

People fell in love with "Ellen" and "Queer Eye" etc., just in time for same-sex marriage to rise as an issue. The tendency among comfortable people to confuse "nice" with "moral" works to outsiders' advantage. How can you deny these nice people such a nice thing as marriage? Lacking an understanding of the purpose of marriage -- it's all about catering and well-staged photos of family, you know -- they can't draw a line.

I think the Muslims would do well to practice this. Smile on enough TV shows and the Americans will forget all about honor killings and box cutters.

Yeah, but then again, you're not asking for money either.

And...I agree there's the occasional dickhead.  But in general around here, if you argue in good faith, you get a good faith argument back.

252 I'm not Catholic, but I am really liking the new Pope.  The world needs a leader who is humble and hasn't forgotten that he's there to serve others.  If only our political leaders would follow his example.
