Happy Wednesday.

The White House is telling Sens. Paul, Cruz, and Lee not to filibuster gun control legislation because it's unwelcoming to the families of kids killed by gun violence. Um, okay?

Gen. Petraeus, in his first public remarks since the scandal that put him out of a job, apologizes and thanks supporters.

Thanks to Obamacare, insurance companies will see medical claims costs per person rise an average of 32 percent by 2017 in the individual insurance market. But that's the average. In some states, it's much worse: "62 percent for California, about 80 percent for Ohio, more than 20 percent for Florida and 67 percent for Maryland."

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday, March 27, 2013.  On this day in 2012 the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for Obamacare.  I posted this entry:

Imus playing a clip of Supreme Court justices laughing at Obamanite lawyers calling mandate penalties a tax.

As I said yesterday, hard to make tax argument after months of calling the penalty not a tax.

And we all know how it turned out.  We were stabbed in the back by one of our supposedly on.

6 I posted this as a comment yesterday afternoon but a lot of you may have missed it.  Some of the justices sound like they want to make the ghey marriage ruling very narrow and have it only apply in these CA cases.  But recall what I posted above, we were making guesses about Obamacare too and look how that turned out.

7 In other SC news they ruled yesterday that police can not bring drug sniffing dogs onto your property without a warrant.  I thought that they could not come onto your property at all without a warrant unless they were following hot pursuit or imminent danger.  I used to be on the side of police on a lot of these types of issues but no more.  We are turning into a police State with this insane “war on drugs” that we lost decades ago.

OK - Ed Anger asked for a Jack Webb story and I've got one.  It's not a very nice one, but Webb in many ways wasn't a very nice fellow.

Jack Webb was born in Los Angeles in 1920, a desperately poor child who suffered so badly from asthma that his mother often had to carry him up to their third-floor apartment.  A shy, withdrawn child, his condition prevented him from playing with other children, so he found refuge in his imagination, reading pulp fiction (especially hard-boiled police stories) and collecting little trinkets and souvenirs he fished from the trash.

One of Webb's neighbors had been a horn player and taught young Jack to play.  Later in life, Webb would amass an extensive jazz collection and would even direct and star in a jazz film, Pete Kelly's Blues, which also starred Andy Devine, Peggy Lee, Jayne Mansfield, Lee Marvin and Ella Fitzgerald.  Webb would go on to marry the sultry singer Julie London, but their marriage (in 1945, when Webb was beginning a career as a radio announcer) would end in divorce in 1953, London citing Webb's physical brutality as the motivating factor.

Which brings us to the story, courtesy of the poor man's Jayne Mansfield (who herself was the poor man's Marilyn Monroe), B-movie queen Mamie Van Doren.  On a date, she said, Webb spiked her drink.  "The next thing I knew, I was naked, lying spread-eagled on a four-poster bed, my arms and legs tied to each bedpost.  As the fog in my brain lifted, I looked up and saw Sergeant Joe Friday having sex with me with a wild look in his eyes."

Sorry to be so brief, but it's another one of those days.  See you all tomorrow.

37 - "Thanks to Obamacare, insurance companies will see medical claims costs per person rise an average of 32 percent by 2017 in the individual insurance market. But that's the average. In some states, it's much worse: '62 percent for California, about 80 percent for Ohio, more than 20 percent for Florida and 67 percent for Maryland.'" Of course it goes without saying -- although ironically enough not necessarily in chattering class circles -- that ultimately those costs will be passed along to healthcare consumers. But none of that is a true measure of Obamacare's ghastly effects. You also have to factor in the people who've been and will be fired so that their employers can get under the law's 50-employee threshold, or not hired in the first instance. Plus the people who've already had and who will in the near future have their pay and benefits cut, being moved from full-time to part-time or even from part-time above 30 hrs. per week to under 30 hrs. per week. Obamacare arguably is the worst piece of legislation ever enacted. And in the ghastliest irony of all, back in 2008, had a few hundred additional conservatives in MN gone ahead and "held their noses," and voted for Norm Coleman, rather than sitting out that election cycle, or a few thousand in AK for Ted Stevens, it never would have been enacted.

47 I'll repeat what I have been saying all along on the UNaffordable healthcare act.  The purpose was not to make sure everybody has insurance.  It doesn't even try to do that.  The purpose is to run private insurance companies out of buisness so the government can step in and take over. And thus they nationalize the healthcare industry which is a major portion of the economy.

51 Speaking of Ohio, it's good to see that at least one school board, in Strongsville, has refused to knuckle under to the union dipshits and has, in effect, told them to stay out forever if they don't feel like working within the budget limits that the taxpayers don't feel like increasing.  Needless to say, the usual whiners have been on the idiot tube about how rough life is for them, which is falling on a lot of deaf ears of people who aren't working for reasons beyond their control.  I hope they don't cave but these things usually don't end well for the taxpayers, particularly with the union fellating mob in the White House.

77 I kinda disagree, Vic. Obamacare, at least in the first several years, is a gift to the insurance companies. You forget about the subsidies. A $9000 policy for a family of four making $40k per year, will be subsidized to the tune of $7k or so. So, $7k of your tax money goes right into insurance company coffers, even if this family of four is healthy and never sees a doc! The second handout comes in the form of "community rating" built into Obamacare. This was a gift to AARP who sells billions in insurance per year. Obamacare says you can no longer charge young people very little for insurance, even if they are healthy and don't consume much health care. Older insureds can only be charge 3 times what young people are charged. So, the price goes up dramatically for the young, even though they will continue to not use much. And young men are even worse off. You can no longer charge women higher premiums because of OB-GYNE. So young men will no longer be getting discounted premiums because they don't need that! Obamacare! The gifts just keep on coming!

Ours was rolled into "ethics training", and they brought in a really crappy all-carbs lunch to compensate us for the hour.  Mmrph.  It mostly devolved into a discussion of the Ethics Committee drinking their lunch.

The video on bribes was vaguely entertaining; the rep from the potential customer demanding one was an Arab and the employee waffling on "the ethical thing to do" was white British. Sorry it couldn't be a better story, Ed.  I, too, find Webb fascinating, especially the early Dragnets in B&W.  I do wonder if working with Erich von Stroheim on Sunset Boulevard rubbed off on him, since he was as fanatical about getting the LAPD right as Von was getting details right in his movies.

Webb even went so far as to have all the telephones on set contain actual LAPD extensions, even though no-one would ever see them.  And the set was dressed by the same suppliers who sold equipment to the cops.

Sorry about your dad.  Prayers your way.

It should affirm the lower court, or overturn--but not leave standing the decision by default.

This is because I do not think lower courts should be able to say things are "unconstitutional" by default--that if they claim that standard, that the claim should be automatically in obeyance until positively affirmed, and if not actually affirmed it is null and void. And preferably, an affirmation just not by the Supreme Court, which is not the most legitimate republican institution out there, but by a broader based body.

134 Sort of off topic, but I have been thinking about the marriage issue and thought I would try out the Hrothgar fix here. It needs a lot of work, but I have too many irons in the fire. 1. Grandfather ALL existing marriages as being equivalent to a “common law” civil union. 2. Deny recognition of all future church marriages as being equivalent to a common law civil union. 3. Issue one and only one civil union contract to any two people that apply. a. Polygamy would be allowed on a state by state basis, but all benefits and tax advantages would be restricted to parties in the "first" civil union. b. Age of consent could be established on a state by state basis, but benefits would be restricted to parties in the "first" civil union. c. A new civil union contract could be issued to a surviving party if the other member of the original contract has deceased due to natural causes. 4. Restrict all benefits, tax advantages, and other government largesse to those with valid single civil unions in place. 5. Formally have the government ignore any and all aspects of future church marriages. 6. The civil union parties would be designated party 1 and party 2 where party 1 is recognized as the party that is automatically at fault for any problem with the civil union and its potential dissolution and distribution of assets and children. Let's see how much trouble this gets me in. H

Yep, a simple majority is all they need.  That's what they did when he vetoed the two recent abortion bills.  It's nice having a Republican legislature even if we still have a Democrat for governor.  He is a spineless party-line guy, but the Repubs here have started growing spines.  They recently introduced a bill to repeal the state income tax.  It's already turned into a wailing from all the special interest groups on the Left about how every single department in the state government is vital for poor folks and the children.  That's sounds to me like the Repubs have hit the sweet spot about what needs to happen.

209 If gay marriage (in this case against the popular will of the People of California and using a legal and constitutional means to do so) is allowed, then marriage will have become undefined.

When marriage no longer has a set definition, then anyone (or anything) can be a marriage partner (or partners) this will become the de facto standard whatever the courts allow.

Instead of the rule of law, we will have allowed the rule of man (judges) to be implemented.

And that will begin the slide into worse and worse conditions for the liberty loving in this country. Regardless of sexual orientation or any other qualifiers.

The progressives know this which it is why it's on their agenda.

A close look at every point on the progressives agenda will immediately reveal that every point is aimed at the destruction of the foundations of western civilization as formulated and practiced in the US.

That's the ultimate goal.

But premiums are still going to go down by 3,000%, right? And watch the cretin class blame their employer or insurance companies for the increase. No blame will ever be assigned to the guilty party one Barry Obozo

228 Frank Whittle just gets the press.  There was a Romanian in 1910 who built a plane that used a jet propulsion method to create more thrust than his engine would normally produce.

Hans Ohain went to work for Heinkel.  Like Whittle he produced a centrifugal force jet engine.  The Heinkel plane with the Ohain engine flew first.  The Gloster prototype with a Whittle engine was second.

But Dr. Anselm Franz designed the first modern axial flow turbojet engine for Jumo - the 004.

So this '12 cycle of primary candidates, I was surprised to learn that at one point, New Mexico had enough voters willing to elect a libertarian-Republican Governor. Elimination of the family.

Removal of Male adults from the family. (Unless a member of a protected group such as gays)

State sanctioned murder by citizens. (abortion)

Elimination of the necessity for marriage. (welfare)

Removal of Religion from Education.

Redefining marriage to be whatever Judges consider appropriate.

Destruction of free enterprise.

Reduction of the Military. (the won't destroy the military just restructure it and it's members to be more compliant and willing to defend the oligarchy.)

Abrogation of treaties with allies. (this isn't just a progressive goal but generally they find treaties to be mere conveniences more often than not reducing the value of them by other nations.)

Removal of the populations source of self defense. (gun seizures, registration.)

Limitations on Free Speech. (PC, no tolerance rules, hate crime legislation.)

Absorption or weakening of Free Press.

Allowing International laws that are formulated by foreign powers to become the law in the US automatically. (Coming soon to a city near you.)

Feel free to add any I've left off.

I pay $1000 a year for car insurance. I haven't had an accident in 10 years. Using your logic, I should give up insurance.

The problem is most people have forgotten that it's health INSURANCE. As in you pay money into a policy every year and you hope you never have to use it. And that's because politicans (Democrats) have conflated health INSURANCE with Health CARE.

Nobody looks at their home owners policy and thinks, my house hasn't burned down in 10 years, this insurance thing sucks. Yet people have your attitude that if I pay $160 a month, unless I get $160 back I am getting screwed. No, you're paying $160 a month so that if you get cancer and your treatment costs $500,000, you're covered. Just like you pay for car/home insurance so that if you get into an accident and are sued for $1M or your home burns down, you're covered.

Car insurance doesn't pay for your oil changes. Health insurance shouldn't pay for your routine office visits either.

263 Well last night on the ONT was ranting and railing against the Discovery Channel's series 'How We Invented the World.'  Specifically their cars and planes episodes.

In both shows, they interviewed one of the billionaire Google creeps.  Even interviewed Soledad O'Brian in the car episode.  Yeah she has a freaking clue about automobiles.  Way they wrote it, the internal combustion engine was created by Benz but it it took his wife to market it.  But they did get one thing right on that, driving cars is about freedom.

On the planes front.  The Whittle section really chafed me.  Not a single mention of the German efforts.  Just Whittle.  They recreate Frank Whittle in RAF uniform slaving away at his desk designing his engine in the pre-war period.  On his desk is a wooden model plane, of an Avro Lancaster - a plane that did not exist in any form before 1940.  At the end they do picture montage of jet aircraft - Heinkel's prototype with the Ohain engine, then the Italian Caproni Camprini ducted fan PR stunt, and then the Boeing 707.  Ggrr.....

They asked for flexibility in O&M.  They didn't get it, but they got more funding moved to it in order to ease the pain.  The building never told Congress there was an OCO issue.  Now they're bitching that OCO is the problem and they'll have to rape O&M (the funding they just got) to fix it.  Of course....I'm in O&M.

The White House is telling Sens. Paul, Cruz, and Lee not to filibuster gun control legislation because it's unwelcoming to the families of kids killed by gun violence. Um, okay?

I say this as a person who generally likes children   and wouldn't wish any harm to    befall    them,   and who certainly doesn't want any family to feel the pain of losing a child for any reason.

But that said, fuck the children.   This isn't about them.     For every child killed   or wounded by gun violence, how many are there who were saved    from harm   because someone used a gun properly?   You can't count that number, because those are the statistics that don't make it into the news because they aren't accompanied by pictures of bloody children and wailing mothers.

This isn't about protecting children, or women,   or families, or any other bullshit the regressives try to peddle.   This is about power and control and an attempt to    work   around    and effectively neuter the second amendment,   because   anti-gun   nanny staters don't have the balls to try for an actual repeal.        If you stitched their scrotums together, you wouldn't have enough    ball    sac to hold    half a Sweet-Tart.

Next time the Dimmies   accuse Repubbies of    wanting to "slash" the budget, we should protest   that their rhetoric is unwelcoming to the families of   victims of   knife violence.    Next time the Dimmies accuse Repubbies of wanting to "kill grandma," we should say their rhetoric is unwelcoming to the    families    of   victims of elder abuse.      Next time the Dimmies accuse Repubbies of wanting to "starve the poor," we should say their rhetoric is unwelcoming to the families of homeless people.     And next time some fuckhead, sacless Dimmie accuses a Repubbie of encouraging a virtual "lynch mob" against a particular special interest group, we should     say   that their rhetoric is unwelcoming to the families of dead people who were    genuinely lynched during the Civil Rights Era, and    who,   btw, were lynched by fucking DEMOCRATS.

278 On the planes front. Ggrr.....

You and I, Hoth, were wonky enough to pay attention to state level politics. But we're like 3% of the population or something. Most people don't know their local rep or senator or their attorney general or lieutenant governor. I guess the national parties made some agreement where they would stay out of vote fraud enforcement. And like dipshits, the RNC has complied. I used to think the job of the RNC was to elect republicans regardless of ideology; now I think their job is to shake us down for hooker and blow money.

Posted by: thatcrazyjerseyguy at March 27, 2013 08:57 AM (TPimP)" Is that true? Rates are based on age? So that means companies have more incentive to fire the old and hire the young? Aren't there a ton of laws on age discrimination? Didn't the dems have countless lawsuits on this stuff? So now, cause it's health insurance, age discrimination if ok? Eventually they'll be "letting people go" by retiring them at 40, just when they need their job the most to support their growing family and to pay for college.

As if manipulating results wasn't enough. It is the GOP that's permanently removed the paper ballots. Computer programming. I asked for a paper ballot. Our overwhelmingly Republican county's precinct judge's immediate (prepared) response was the tinfoil hat assertion; that I'd have to believe that there's a complete conspiracy, using Coke and Pepsi formulas for his analogy! I flatly responded that this was an election, not a soda. The local rag recently published the formal announcement that paper ballots will no longer be used in Texas. /resistance is futile.

322 CMBC just said JCP is now quietly raising the prices across the board to stem the bleeding on the billion dollar loss. The concept, to give you the merchandise at the lowest price they can, every day, is a good one. Eventually, they would get their shoppers back on board and attract new shoppers. The old JCP shopper doesn't miss anything, so they think they are being "quiet" but their hard core shopper is watching. They haven't let this Johnson guy follow through on anything. All they did was get themselves in debt by refurbishing the stores. Now you actually have lights and a sleek feel in JCP, it was long overdue. He's attracted designers and companies for his stores within a store, the concept is good for those who just want to go in, see what they have in levis, buy and leave. If you want to see all their jean brands, you have to walk around the store, those folks will get annoyed. Two companies are respectful of their internet operations and the way those operations hold them up, macys and the gap. JCP's internet operation was the best, if that starts to fail, they'll be gone in short order.

Yep. Too many folks in denial that we screwed up a very winnable race against a troubled incumbent so they go for the simplistic excuse of voter fraud. The same excuse the left used in their 2000 & 2004 loses. Was there vote fraud in some cases? Absolutely. Did it decide the election? Nope.

The fact is 10 million registered Rs did not come out to vote and Democrats almost matched 2008 turnout as low info voters came out to vote for their messiah again. National polling showed 50% approval for Obama on election day but 54% of those who came out to vote per exit polls approved of him. In other words O got the 50% who supported him to come out to vote more then Romney got the 50% of O's critics to come out and vote for him. We saw something similar to this when strong R turnout saved Bush in 2004.

367 ::: The fact is 10 million registered Rs did not come out to vote and Democrats almost matched 2008 turnout as low info voters came out to vote for their messiah again. ::: I think it was more like 3 million. But the question is, why? I've been given to the philosophy being passed around lately that politics is downstream of culture. Republicans have lost the cultural centers years ago. Very few people actually vote on, for instance, a candidate's approval of gay marriage, but they DO perceive Republicans as "anti-gay" and "mean" while Democrats are "inclusive" at least.

368 "Democrats maybe unpopular, but Republicans are despised."

Republicans are polled to have approvals in the highs 20s as a party, democrats in the low 30s, in what way does that show a difference in unpopular and despised? Both parties are just as equally unpopular with strengths and weakness with the public right now. Republicans are currently edging in the economics department and Democrats in the Social Security and Medicare dept. You are choosing your own realities to match your partisan bias.

"That is an utter and complete lie."

Be more specific. Considering you yourself have spread some lies on here you might wanna choose your accusations carefully.

Man I knew Sibelius was stupid, but until I read that Yahoo article I didn't realize exactly how stupid she was.

I could do a better job in HHS than that moron.  "It's not health insurance it's Mortgage insurance"

Well no shit Sherlock, and for many people it works perfectly fine.  (And where it doesn't work you usually have a problem of people not planning properly.  Sadly, the progs are going to use this to push even harder for an elimination of high deductible plans, which is exactly what we need right now.)

I'd be curious to see a few things about that report though (or followups on it).

1) What happens if a state doesn't expand Medicaid

2) What is projected to happen to any employer based insurance that remains around

3) What caused the 3 states to go down.

I'm intrigued by 3 mostly.  There are about 3-4 other studies I've read which seem to preclude the idea that an increase in the insurance pool could decrease the per capita payouts, no matter how you slice it. Yet 3 states are projected to go down.

As for why you can't bring per capita expenditures down, the answer to that is as always Friedman's "The 4 ways you spend money" combined with a few other psychological quirks.

If I have insurance, I'm going to start utilizing medicine more than if I don't have it, even if I'm not sick.  Insured people use the ER at a higher rate than the uninsured for less urgent conditions (because it's $100 copay not a potentially $10,000 bill.)  Insured people or more likely to take pharmaceuticals, etc.

Now we can argue back and forth whether these are good or bad things (and for certain things there's no clear cut answer) and how to change it where it needs to be changed, but what we can't argue about is whether it's going to be cheaper.  It won't.  Full stop.

You haven't had a raise since this started and, in most cases, you were thankful they cut your salary back instead of firing you. So now, on top of your salary from the bush days that was cut as soon as the problems hit, with nary a raise for years, you are having to pay huge new health insurance premiums. Plus, there are many other hidden "taxes" that have kicked in and the price of food has risen. So essentially you are making waaay less than you did in the Bush years.

I hope some type of High Deductible plan remains in existence.  The wife and I are seriously discussing moving to one.  If our health insurance premiums go up by much more we'll be priced out.

We stayed out of them thusfar because while we were on different plans and my insurance was paid for by my job the CDHD plans really didn't make much sense the cost wasn't much lower and even with the medical account contributions the effective deductible (the gap between the medical account and the deductible) was more or less equivalent to the regular plans.

Plus if you're in that child-bearing period of your life it just seems not bright to choose like that.

But cost drives.

She's got some friends at work who are on it even some who have kids, so we plan on asking them how the math shakes out (as it were.)

So much produced, had to be distributed and sold somewhere to a sucker. That tone is based on hate and fear. If they did not hate your people, the Republicans would not use hateful tone. I have seen people on this blog and others call for throwing Hispanics in camps and sterilizing them. Ann Coulter insults Hispanics routinely and she is a Conservative hero.

Read up on the rhetoric the Nazis used on Jews and Slavs. Compare it to how Republicans talk about Hispanics. They do not just hate illegals, they hate all Hispanics. But do not worry, when Libertarians and Fiscons take over the GOP, Hispanics like all Americans will be welcomed and treated with respect.

606 Sorry, basement boy, WWII was over 60 years ago. Try again. But, that whole neck of the European woods is like some kind of daisy-chained, human centipede project endlessly shitting in each other's mouths over stuff that happened 60, 100, 500 years ago. Fuck off, basement boy, how much they paying you?

I have no problems with Croats, they are my brothers. I feel it was a mistake we fought each other. Serbs and Croats should of united and sent the Bosniak traitors along with their Al Qaeda terror buddies into hell.

I don't hate Mexicans.  Where did you get that idea, amigo?

And I suppose the Croats and Bosnians you murdered were all Al Qaeda as well.

I guess it doesn't matter, because CROATIA  WHOOPED THAT ASS, SON.  Nothing worse than being a mass murderer.  Except  for being an  ineffectual mass murderer.

Suck  on your absolute  failure as both an individual  and a member of a murderous cocksucking ethnic group.

627 559 Hot damn, you're in the hotbed of the drug wars against families and civilization. Chihuahua also includes the American expatriot Mormon polygamous colonies (including Romney's "Dublin"). They don't like to speak Spanish, still choosing English at home and in their communities, schools/church. They also suffer frequent kidnappings of husbands, tortured and murdered, left near the US border as examples for those who would keep their children from association with the cartels. And the colonials are denied protection from Mexican Police, and denied the right to organize local police departments or to bear arms. Alongside the old Mormon Academy south of the US border, the SLC headquarters built a temple where celestial-polygamous weddings are perpetuated. But the polygamous LDS in Mexico are not "fundamentalist" SLC break-offs as is the sect in Eldorado, TX related with the UT/AZ border hardliners who are also located in Canada. So long as the Mexican ex-patriot American polygamous families declare loyalty to the SLC church headquarters, and remain polygamous outside of the US proper, they remain in "good graces". Meanwhile in Washington, the latest marriage congressional debate for legislation is preparing to exonerate polygamy, particularly admitting immigrant polygamist families into the US legally. And for all the hoopla from which the Republican Party originated? The more things change, the more they stay the same...

People like "Get with Reality" always demand the same thing, for us to abandon all our lifelong held principles in order to secure political success. Let me tell you something sonny, there is more to life than winning elections. Obama, Hillary, et al may indeed continue the left's march through this nation's insitutions and culture for some time but their victories will be pyrrhic, tearing apart the very fabric of the society they seek to transform. You don't like hearing criticism of the young, illegal immigration, the militant gay movement, etc? Too bad. Get with reality.

645 I've said it before and I'll say it again, Americans are way too damn prudy. Thank God we didn't sack Eisenhower for "forking" his secretary. D-Day would have failed under that incompetent ass of a commander Montgomery (Market Garden, anyone?). But seriously, as long as Paula wasn't a commie spy, it's David and his wife who should care, not the rest of a nation (over 95 percent who have never served).

646 Vic, we've sparred many a time before. But thank you, you said it-we lost the war on drugs many years ago. I'm much more concerned about my rights being taken that way than by two gays getting married. Only us conservatives brought that shit upon ourselves sadly.

647 LOL Danny, I'll put my 30mm cannons against your 20mm any day. Oh and top speed. How long was the path? Well, one the air spins around the radius like a turbo-charger, the other flows down the axis, which we use today. Two different geometries = long path, my friend.
