2 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday, March 06, 2013.  On this day in 1899 Bayer registered aspirin as a trademark. Yes it has been around that long.  And if they tried to bring it to market today?  It would never get off the ground.

7 Fox headline so redundant it is borderline stupid.

Are celebrity 'fractivists' overlooking science in their condemnation of the fracking industry?

When has ANY of these watermelon activists used actual science in their shit?  Much less the so-called “celebrities” who are even dumber than the average creosote post.  And on that score, why is Yoko Uno a celebrity to begin with?  She is uglier than sin, she can not sing, she can not act, and her only claim to fame is marrying a drug addled ex-Beatle.

9 Just in case you missed it yesterday Holder told Rand Paul that the President can authorize drone strikes against US citizens on US soil without due process.  He cited vague references to 9-11, in which a drone strike would be totally useless, and the attack on Pearl Harbor, which is even more ludicrous.  I guess what he was trying to avoid saying is the “protect lives and hot pursuit doctrine” when police are authorized to use deadly force can be applied.  Why he didnÂ’t say that is unknown, but given how much this administration lies about every score on the book this policy is extremely frightening.

And it doesnÂ’t even come close to addressing Posse Comitatus which has become a toothless forgotten law.  DHS is buying up all the ammunition in the country; it is buying thousands of tanks, and is now implementing domestic attack drones.  We truly have become a third world shit hole ruled by an oligarchy with a thug dictator.  People have been banking on the “military” not being willing to fire on American citizens on the orders of a thug dictator.  It appears to me that they are not counting on that either.  It looks to me like the DHS is implementing their own brown shirt civilian army, complete with shock troops, armor, and an air force that can be controlled by a few remote thugs.  This should become a major chapter in the growing set of books known as “what if this was a Republican”.

Here is the actual letter to R. Paul from the corrupt AG.  It is full of bull shit, generalities, and nothing other than I will tell the President what his authority is when the situation arises.  This screams loudly for congressional action AND is a good place for some bi-partisan action.  Ordinarily Democrats and McShitty would be crawling all over this.  Where are they now?

12 It seems there is a lot more to not inviting GOPProud to the CPAC conference than just because they are gay.  People seem to forget, this is not RPAC and people who come in and act like a bunch of jerks do not get invited back.  In addition let me say this to people like Jonah Goldberg who say exclusion of the fat man and others is the wrong thing to do when Republicans are trying to be “inclusive”.   The very reason organizations like CPAC were formed was to attempt to steer the Republican Party in the conservative direction and away from the liberal Rockefeller wing. Now you are asking them to become nothing more than that which they were formed to fight.

Happy hump day, fellow Morons.  My apologies for no story yesterday, as I decided to take one more day off.  I hope this one makes up for it:

Some of my favorite reading concerns flop movies.  I don't mean ones that were obviously never going to be classics, such as the dreck from cheapjack studios like AVCO Embassy, American International or Carolco; I mean ones that had the full backing of major studios and which, somehow, turned into wrecks.  Most people know the major bombs like Cleopatra, Heaven's Gate or Inchon, but there are also smaller movies which never should have been greenlighted.  Some of them star people who really had no business on the silver screen - Kate Smith's disastrous Hello, Everybody! or Liberace's ghastly debut, Sincerely Yours comes to mind - but even Hollywood legends have a stinker or two in their closet.  Jimmy Stewart had the 1978 money sink, The Magic of Lassie, Bette Davis had Beyond the Forest chained around her neck in 1949. . .

And Elizabeth Taylor, no stranger to cinematic lead weights, had, among her many flops, 1970s The Only Game in Town.

Game
was based on a Broadway play that ran for thirteen pathetic performances.  No matter - 20th Century-Fox snapped up the rights for $700,000.  This wasn't as stupid a decision as it sounds; the author, Frank Gilroy, had already proven his mettle with the play The Subject Was Roses, which was adapted for the screen in 1968 and made a nice chunk of change for MGM.

Taylor was enthusiastic about the script, saying, "You're making me cry," when it was first read to her.  It was Fox's accountants who should have been crying, since La Liz, courtesy of producer Fred Kolmar, was pocketing a whopping $1,125,000 for her services.  Kolmar also went along with Liz's other demand; since hubby Richard Burton would be in England* simultaneous with the filming of Game, it would be better for her peace of mind if the movie was shot in Paris.  That Game takes place in Las Vegas didn't bother Taylor; she blithely assured Kolmar that Fox could build a better Las Vegas than the real thing.

Game follows Fran, a lonely middle-aged chorus girl who falls for a sweet-talking, but self-destructive, drifter named Joe.  Fox needed an actor who packed enough star power to go head to head with Taylor, and thought they'd hit the jackpot in Frank Sinatra.  But Taylor suffered an emergency hysterectomy that kept her out of commission for several months; by the time she was ready to shoot, Ol' Blue Eyes had backed out.  His replacement?  Warren Beatty, coming off the triumph of Bonnie and Clyde.  Kolmar dashed off a check for $750,000 and Beatty was aboard.  Everybody was happy.

Except Burton, who grew jealous at the growing closeness between Taylor and Beatty; he rearranged his schedule in order to be on set whenever the two filmed a romantic scene (possibly remembering the sparks between himself and Taylor on the Cleopatra set) and once even yanked her off the soundstage in fury at what he considered a too-intimate shot.  Of course, after that, Taylor claimed that Burton's roughness strained her back, so the production - already behind schedule - had to wait a further fifteen days before Liz returned to the cameras.

Filming in France took eighty-five days.  Another ten were required in Las Vegas, then a week more on the Fox lot, then came eight months of editing whatever usable footage there was into a halfway decent picture.  During this time, Taylor gave a number of interviews stating that Game would mark her farewell to the movies; she had, she said, no greater wish than to retire gracefully after completing such a beautiful film.

Except it wasn't a beautiful film.  Taylor had gained weight after her appendectomy and looked nothing like a Vegas chorus girl; her costumes (including a polyester pantsuit, funny hats and a blue dressing gown) only made the situation worse and did nothing to hide the fact that her waistline had disappeared.  Beatty struggled manfully with his character and Gilroy's ludicrous dialogue, but he must have been kicking himself for turning down Butch Cassidy and Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice in favor of Game: in the words of Harry and Michael Medved, his wooing of Taylor "bears more than a passing resemblance to Charles Grodin trying to cast seductive glances at the divine Miss Piggy in The Great Muppet Caper."

Taylor quickly abandoned any talk of retirement after the brutal reception of Game and began looking for new projects.  She would find them - Under Milk Wood and A Little Night Music were still ahead of her - but the spell she cast over studios was broken; she would never again be offered million-dollar salaries or open-ended budgets just to appear on screen.

A postscript:  you would think that 20th Century-Fox, having nearly bankrupted themselves with Cleopatra and taken a $10 million dollar bath on The Only Game in Town, would stay as far away from Elizabeth Taylor as humanly possible.  But you would be wrong.  In a 1976 joint Russian - American venture, she appeared in an adaptation of the Maurice Maeterlinck play The Blue Bird.  Fox ponied up $12 million for an American gross return of $887,902.  The Russians - no fools they - never revealed how much they spent (and lost) on the project.

And that's it for me.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.  All you NE morons stay safe from the storm coming our way.

*co-starring with Rex Harrison in the play Staircase; they play an aging homosexual couple.  Harrison reportedly dared Burton, "I'll do it if you will."

23 Article discusses the new version 6 of Sim City.  This needs to be in the weekend gaming thread for those coblogers up this morning.  I used to love this game and would spend hours and hours of “wasted” time on it.  There were a few things I absolutely hated.  It was obviously designed by watermelons who hated coal, nuclear, and just about anything but solar. To get around that I cheated.  I would make my own landscape with a mountain on one side and huge waterfalls and damns for hydro, which they also loved.  But according to this it appears they have upgraded the modeling.  One wonders if they got rid of the overly liberal energy outlook.

27 Walter Williams says minimum wage hikes discriminate against blacks.  I think his example here is somewhat simplistic but the headline for the column gave me a wonderful Alinsky type idea in applying their own standards to them.

Statistics do show that hikes in the minimum wage result in higher unemployment for unskilled black youths.  Why not apply that phony liberal court generated disparate impact theory to the minimum wage hikes.   After all, any action that negatively impacts blacks above that of whites is legally illegal discrimination under this theory.

Burton bears some responsibility there, too, though; I think, had he not started shtupping Liz, the movie might have been made more cheaply and a lot faster.  I happen to like it, myself, though it does lose steam after Caesar gets knifed.

This was what "conservative" Bob McDonnel proposed as a package

- tax hike from 5 to 5.3 percent
- Additional sales tax hike of .7 percent in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia

- Personal property tax hike from 3.5 percent to 4.3 percent

- Tangible personal property tax hike to 5 percent

- 3 percent Northern Virginia hotel tax

- Diesel tax hike from 17.5 cents per gallon to 6 percent tax on wholesale diesel, roughly a 5 cent per gallon increase

- Car tax hike from 3 percent to 4 percent in 2013, 4.1 percent in 2014, 4.2 percent in 2015, and 4.3 percent in 2016 (Remember when Republicans got elected in Virginia by saying we should get rid of the car tax? Good times.)

And when the Donks were done marking up this package it amounted to a $6.1 Billion dollar tax increase.

Fuck Bob McDonell and fuck Jonah Goldberg.

That can't be said enough!

I had seen an article a few days ago where he had nominated a shit pot of gun grabbers to the courts all over the country. I didn't post it because it is a little early.

We have to see if the Republicans like Graham allow them out of committee.  Remember, the judicial committee is the ONE committee where at least one minority party member must vote to release it out.

The Dems have used that every time they are out of power and the Republicans never use it.

I hate to say it, but what incentive do the D.C. eunuchs have to do anything else?

Since Our Betters in the "Conservative" Media are busy yammering about who gets to go to this CPAC circle-jerk and whether it's fair to charge Poppin' Fresh for his throne there on Blogger's Row or parroting Jonah Goldberg's latest pile of verbal Jell-O, no one but a few die-hards are paying attention to the continuing saga of the fat, pampered Stockholm Syndrome babies in Congress.

At least this way they are able to meet with Choom Boy and be warmed by the reflection of His Glory.

If we ever started to employ what little power we have left and hold Republicans' feet to the fire, perhaps we'd have a better chance of doing likewise with President Historic First©.

The country might have a better chance of survival, too.

So snow may come down, but it's not gonna do anything on the roads, except melt on contact. In their defense, any genuine meteorologist    who gave a damn about his or her profession would be the first to say "weater =/= climate,"    and that climate science is an entirely different field.     Which just goes to show how few meteorologists we have on    national TV who give a damn about their profession.

120 From the Miami Herald's story on the death of Chavez: [His] charm and forceful personality made him an extraordinary politician. His enviable ability to win a mass following allowed him to build a powerful political machine that kept him in office... But as a national leader, he was an abject failure who plunged [the country] into a political and economic abyss. [He] leaves behind a country in far worse condition than it was when he became president, its future clouded by rivals for succession in a constitutional crisis of his ... making and an economy in chaos. His skillful rhetoric, which filled supporters with utopian dreams, was used to justify the methodical destruction of [the nationÂ’s] democratic institutions and the free market. Shortly after coming to office, he rewrote the constitution to his liking and aggressively set out to rig elections and stifle adversaries in the legislative branch and the courts. Unable to brook criticism, he turned his fire on the independent news media, eventually silencing most voices of opposition by bully tactics and economic intimidation. His ... regime rewarded supporters and punished opponents, giving rise to enormous corruption and the creation of a new class of greedy oligarchs with political connections. Unfortunately for [the country] and for all his political skills, the president was both an incompetent executive and a worse economist. [Though] an energy-rich country, [it] was forced to devalue its currency... This was the inevitable outcome of a series of disastrous economic decisions that scared off foreign investors and spurred capital flight. No wonder the left loves Obama. He's exactly like Castro and Chavez.

But if he's the nominee - and running against the permanent campaign apparatus of either the Obama or Clinton families for the presidency in 2016? I unfortunately can see this happening right in front of our eyes. And again, I won't be one of those staying home because the "anybody but Obama/Clinton option is too _____________". Fuck. I'll accept damnation from anyone's deity for a chance - just a chance - of getting this country back in the right direction. And that chance won't have a fucking (D) after their names. 181 From HuffPo (it's hard to stand but we must know our enemies): Hugo Chavez was a man of many talents: he played ball, sang songs, pulled out pistols, and got down and groovy - and that is precisely how we'll remember the Venezuelan leader. Since rising to power nearly two decades ago, Chavez always liked the spotlight. In 2006, he famously called former U.S. President George W. Bush the devil during a speech at the U.N. General Assembly and the last time rumors were spreading about his health, he invited a group of reporters to play baseball. 232 I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago. I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why the Republicans gave Hugo Chavez cancer. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. She could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, " I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..." When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Mommy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. I just fell into her arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. She had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think itÂ’s too much, but seeing the strength in my daughters voice helped me to get through.

About half of the ones I did were done with an old direct drive turntable with a Shure cartridge. My wife got me one of those that plugs into the USB input to your computer and I did the rest from it.

I don't remember which ones I used to do those two albums. But I can tell you that the one from the USB drive were much easier to do.  And it came with software that allows you to split the songs so you do not have to lift the stylus and restart at every song.

If you are going to do it with an older (and presumably better turntable) you will have to have a sound card with an input and feed the output of your amp into the sound card. (can't plug the turntable straight into sound card)

Chavez had a skill for playing to the emotions of the left.

I don't think we should ignore that. (or we ignore it at our own peril.)

Consider that he'd ship heating oil up to the North East every few years as a "gift."  Yes we all recognize it as an obvious bribe to people to ignore his other..shenanigans.  But it created a sort of safe haven for the left to fall back on. (Sad though that may be.)

Hey, stop making me laugh when I'm really mad.

Snort.

I wonder how many times people have posted the song as a Craigslist ad.

And how many people responded cuz they thought it sounded nice.

308 craigslist? hmmmm. (SF Bay Area) ------- Used sex toys for sale - mw4mw I have the following pre-owned adult toys for immediate sale: Three-speed Vibrator with adjustable head, works great but rotator is slightly jammed with hair. $25 4 size small and extra small butt-plugs. I moved up the size rather quick so they are barely used and in perfect shape. $4 each 3 half eaten edible panties, size XXL. Flavors: virgin strawberry, smooth Irish cream, and backdoor fudge. $2.50 each Soft rubber life-like (cock with balls) black dildo. The paint is slightly worn off at the tip but otherwise works great. $10 2 size extra small cock rings. $3 each or $5 for both. 1 set of glass anal beads. These beads have been used a lot so they are extra smooth! $8. 1 white leather sex swing, made in England. Slightly stained at the edges of leg straps. $25 Deep anal metal sphere mini-vibrator. The metal casing is slightly bent due to emergency retrieval surgery, but still vibrates perfectly well. $5

314 It's okay Mama AJ.  I am not saying the school might have gone bonkers.  But I see way too many civilians wearing surplus military uniforms.  Luckily most of those posers are harmless and easy to ID since their hair is not regulation.  But in the BDU days there was one guy who forgot to sanitize his uniforms, USAF type, before putting them surplus and another guy bought them and almost got on a base.

321 68 Heritage could never do it justice like this: http://bit.ly/XOLVnu

Levin is wrong:

(1) He says the snow is just an excuse, that leadership moved to essentially silence voters: The idea of moving the vote to today due to the "Snowquester" has been discussed since at least Monday. Additionally, a major hearing has been cancelled and others have been moved. Furthermore, the bill was roughly outlined in the press prior to this week and was released early this week.

3/4/13: @rebeccagberg  @nielslesniewski Per House aide: "Looking at Thursday but we're staying flexible on schedule because of possible weather."

2/27/13, "Key House conservatives say they can support measure to fund the government"- http://bit.ly/VNKS7K

3/6/13: @ChadPergram Federal gov't in DC is closed due to the pending snowstorm. But the House is still scheduled to meet to debate CR to avoid gov't shutdown.

(2) He completely ignored the fact that the Ds are discussing whether to remove the sequester cuts or prioritize non-defense discretionary spending over defense spending.

(3) He claims that any House R who votes for this bill wants ObamaCare: I am sure that there are Rs who secretly want ObamaCare. That said, equating realism with this secret desire is wrong. After losing National Federation of Independent v. Sebelius, our best chance to repeal ObamaCare was winning the election and having the states reject the Medicaid expansion. As for the House, the SCOAMT is not going to completely repeal ObamaCare due to a government shutdown, so they need to adopt a piecemeal approach. Attempting to repeal the IPAB would be a good start.
