Happy Thursday.

I'm hearing that the cybersecurity bill is something that we really do not want made law.

Jeri Wright was indicited for money laundering and lying to investigators. That's Obama's former pastor's daughter.

If you happened to DVR Red Eye last night, I'm told that Ace gets a shout-out somewhere in last night's show.

Remember:

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

The latest CMP newsletter has this gem:

"CMP Telephone Disruption:  As most of our customers know, there is currently a surge in the country for the purchase of rifles, parts, ammunition, and anything related to firearms.  Several businesses have stopped taking calls altogether and the FBI NICS operation has indefinitely discontinued taking customer service calls for status of NICS background checks."

On May 22, the American Psychiatric Association will release an updated version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.  There are six notable additions to the manual, among them is 'internet disorder.'

In short, the new classification signals that people who spend a lot of time on the Internet demonstrate the same symptoms as people diagnosed with other addiction disorders.

75 Good morning, all.

I think the most despicable thing in the bill is the doctor clause.  Here is the bad results as I see them:

1. It sows distrust between the doctor and patient.
2. It allows for abuse by unscrupulous and/or leftist doctors.  (For example,  it would be very easy for a leftist GP to comb voter registrations and put all Republican patients on the "no guns" list, or for an estranged and murder-minded husband to put his wife on the "no guns" list, denying her protection.)
3. This is most important, I think. Are doctors going to be held liable if one of their patients does a shooting?  I think they are.  I think this is pressure to get DOCTORS to do the gun-grabbing,  following the usual Obama manner of getting others to do his dirty work.  Will malpractice insurers insist that doctors do this or deny them coverage?
4. There is not way to KNOW if you have been put on the list,  and no way to appeal.

Of all of the things discussed in that bill,  this one upsets me the most.  And it is intentionally put there,  because in Obamacare the doctors are supposed to ask if you have guns

79 I believe people are overestimating the "purple" landscape of Pennsylvania, especially Toomey- no matter what his internal polls are telling him.

If there is a single issue that can unit Pennsylvanian's it is the Second Amendment.

I was at an event out that way last night. The crowd was a mix of people from different political beliefs. They were strangely united on this issue (BTW was there an eclipse last night?).

One thing is for certain; by the time Toomey's next election cycle comes around the facts on this proposal will be evident. If past is prologue with Democrats and Mr. Obama, those facts won't be good for Toomey.

He had a very hard time with the electorate in Pennsylvania which is finicky. Spending too much time on social issues, which is laudable hurt him. It allowed opponents to paint him as an extremist. He also almost came unhinged a few times which did not help.

I believe Rick is a good man. But he may be too damaged politically in Pennsylvania to get elected. It look like more of the "old" with swing voters. IMVHO

Why do I get the feeling that these laws were written 40 years ago by the Weather Underground?

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at April 11, 2013 07:41 AM (tqLft)

Because they probably were.   When I was younger,  before I became a military wife and saw Communism first hand in West Berlin,  I was a liberal,  having grown up in a yellow-dog democrat household.  In 1968 (the summer in which my son was born) I watched student riots from the balcony of my apartment on Martin Luther Strasse.

The rioters were well organized,  even bringing motorcycle helmets to wear so that they could avoid injury when the water cannons were turned on them by the Polizei.   They were not naive youth;  they were older people in their mid-20's and 30's,  followed by some silly younger folk who, even though they could look into East Berlin and see the gray and deprived life of their countrymen,  still were  demonstrating against America.  Only in later years did it occur to me that they were probably stirred up by the KGB,  much as American campuses were.

I went to school with people who were like Bill Ayers, so convinced of their superiority that they would have had no compunction of killing people.  In fact,  Emily Harris of Symbionese Liberation fame was in my dorm.  So I really do know what these people are like.

The Republicans,  and many conservatives,  made the mistake thinking that once Reagan demonstrated the superiority of conservative thinking,  that Marxism  would go away.  It did not.  Borne of grievance and envy,  it is always there, waiting for the chance to bring ruin and death.  I will bet you that somewhere there are plans for death camps,  as well.

And I am not exaggerating.

Man this Cyber Security bill only reminds me that it's getting impossible to read a news article about a bill and adequately understand what's in the actual bill.

I'd wager that's based on 2 things 1) No one's read the bill yet and 2) even if they had, it'd just authorize people to make a bunch of regulations which become the "real" law.

Faith Jr., of Washington, Ind., will be buried April 17 in Arlington National Cemetery, officials from the Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office said. “What’s so amazing is that our country doesn’t give up." - Barbara “Bobbie” Broyles, Faith’s only child Faith, a veteran of World War II who continued to serve in the Army during the Korean War, was seriously injured by shrapnel on Dec. 1, 1950, and died a day later from those injuries. But his body was not recovered by U.S. forces at the time.

199 #185  Truman North,  I am in a very conservative GOP district in a red state. My governor is Mike Pence.  We have a GOP legislature,  both houses.

At my age,  I am not going down to the county GOP meetings in order to inject my no doubt unwanted opinion.  And the precinct committeeman (who really does need to be replaced) is a nut case who has already harrassed me twice with animal control because he hates dogs and hates barking.  (Animal control thinks he's a pain in the rear.)  If I ran against him I would be in a war with a crazy person.

So I commend you for your hard work in your state,  but I am not going to be doing more than posting here.  When you get a donations page for one of your candidates,  post a web address and I will kick in a little cash.

Looking at the HIV RAMP - Resource Allocation Modeling Pilot project which is being currently implemented in Nebraska, Chicago and Alabama and will be sussed out and copied everywhere soon enough.

I'm on the appalled side. The basic idea is to make spending for HIV subject to the mathematical models of what works, doing away with or minimizing the political objections but keeping the local considerations in mind so as to adapt it best. OK, math is great yadda yadda.

But I'm looking behind what they're talking about, examining closer to the sources and studies. They're looking at "what works" from all over the world and considering bringing those practices here. They specifically mention Cuba as an example of what works [compulsory testing and compulsory partner notification followed by social exclusion in marked neighborhoods HAS lowered incidence of infection in an otherwise high-incidence region] and note that introducing such would be troubling from a human rights perspective, but they still want to consider more heavy-handed approaches anyhow.

Still don't know enough to judge it rightly, but that's the jist of it.

210 What's with all the gloomy Gusses? Did you folks think Liberty defends herself? Did you miss History? So, we're in a war. Not fun: we might suffer (have suffered) some losses, we might have to leave our comfy chairs, raise our voices (and "pitchforks"), pledge our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. What did you have to do in this life that was more important? Why did you think God gave you the greater truth, showed you the Washingtons and Jeffersons, blessed you with the Declaration, and the Constitution, and He who died so inspiringly? Were we given these powerful weapons just to gripe because it's not happening now, or, to fight to secure the future for our posterity? You don't have to like the battle to glory in the righteousness of the struggle. Be enthusiastic! Prove worthy. No despair, no Concern, no Debbie Downers. Joyous, positive, enthusiastic, and ready to stand for American values. Remind me of this tomorrow, when my mood flips, okay?

260 As bad as the first four years of the traitor's reign was, I'm now at a place where I am truly feeling very little hope.  I guess this is what they want.  Depress the other side, destroy morale.  Yesterday's news of the impending stripping of my freedom, be it Obamacare, infringement of my 2A rights, doctor prodding into my personal life, the coming 12 million new Dem amnesty voters, our own politicians...where uholding the Constitution and any semblence of Republican ideals is a distant memory, all academia, nearly all media outlets and all entertainment realms are full-on Marxist... I'm just pretty much out of hope.  It was weighing so heavy on my last night that sleep was only something I could wish for.  There are no words in the English language to adequately express my hatred for these people and for the ignorant fools that vote for what is happening.  So stupid.  So very stupid.

290 #261  I always use my daughter,  currently living with me as a reult of the wonderful Obama economy,  as my template for the LIV.

Was discussing this "doctors turn in patients with guns" aspect of the Toomey-Manchin debacle,  and she said the idea that a doc would go through voter registration lists to turn in people to the "no guns list" was PARANOID.

I got her to understand the economic debacle and vote for Romney,  but she just  will not believe that we are dealing with people who would do this.  "What doctor would have the time or even want to do this?" she asked.

See,  she doesn't understand the Left at all.  She thinks that most of the democrats are nice people who just don't understand money very well. The idea that the left would compile cross-lists of voter registration and doctor patients and then submit this list to the doctor to have him  sign on the dotted line,  is just simply foreign to her.

This is how the Germans ended up in killing 6 million Jews.  Little by little good people were encouraged to look the other way,  while the maniacs took over and then enacted their evil plan.

For more reasonably priced fare, I always liked La Vita e Bella on Limekiln Pike (Rt. 152), just past Norristown Road--they had a gnocchi in vodka sauce that was pretty good.  There's a number of decent local pizza/hoagie places there, but budget local places are rare, you tend to get lots of chains and then pricier ($20+ entrees) local stuff.  I'll see if I can come up with any other local places.

One of our brats goes to school in Ohio, and there were tons of Romney signs on the doors in her dorm.

318 OK really, I need to write. Later.

319 I got her to understand the economic debacle and vote for Romney, but she just will not believe that we are dealing with people who would do this.

Tell her this:  A friend of mine from grad school went through hell in the last year.  Her teenaged son and daughter were horsing around when an inadvertent nudge to the head or neck freakishly severed a major vein or artery which almost killed the son and now has him partially disabled.  While she was worried about whether he'd come out of a coma, she was being grilled as if she had abused him and was responsible for this and could have her son taken from her.  She eventually got those dumbasses to back the fuck off but she is convinced that at least some of them didn't believe her and that if anything should happen in the future she'd be up the fucking creek.

I told her this is what happens when the state makes doctors be their agents under some feel good crap about "being for the children"; that your rights are turned upside down and the burden of proof is on the accused.  The Founding Fathers would say fuck that shit.

Go back and hide in your bunker.

And no, leaving one of the buckles on your bib overalls unhooked doesn't make you look "dashing".

And your attempt at a put-down doesn't make you sound cool--more like a hipster douche.  Don't be mad at us because your arguments are so logically flawed and inconsistent that any regular moron here can shred them before even taking morning coffee.

Hey stupid shit, remember when you asserted the NRA wasn't opposed to this Toomey thingy?

That was fun.

Why did you come back today, to complete your beclownment?

Posted by: Jay at April 11, 2013 05:47 AM (3LaGb)

326 The Manchin-Toomey proposal is a good faith but unworkable plan," Coburn said in a statement. "The proposal will impose new taxes and unreasonable burdens on law-abiding citizens." -Sen. Coburn How about that "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" thing, Tom, you weasel? And not to quibble, but how is "unworkable" = "good"? Thank Heaven Tired Tom is leaving. I hope and pray we can find the right replacement. Our other Sen & frosh Reps are some encouragement.

Also, turns out that the NRA will be scoring the vote(s) on S. 649 as announced by Chris Cox yesterday.

But no, they are actually secretly in favor of this bill and this is all one giant dog whistle or something.

@JohnTant -

That's right. By being against this bill the NRA and everyone else are silly knuckledraggers.

And jwest totally knows what is in this bill.

Really.

329 "I can foresee a future in which masturbation in public is accepted as just another life style choice." So, when I use the tip of some chicken-choking park hobo's turgid member for .22 target practice, that's okay 'cause it's just a lifestyle choice, too, right?

330 wtf Happened to ole Tom Coburn - wasn't he pretty solidly conservative a while back? (or am I cornfusin him w someone else?)

Posted by: Katfish at April 11, 2013 06:05 AM (Nx5wc)

331 Coburn? Trying to play nice in DC, I suspect. I don't think he's inimical by intention as much as befoggedness. Still rather have him than, oh, say, McCain.

"In addition, the NRA will oppose any amendments offered to S. 649 that restrict fundamental Second Amendment freedoms, including, but not limited to, proposals that would ban commonly and lawfully owned firearms and magazines or criminalize the private transfer of firearms through an expansion of background checks.  This includes the misguided "compromise" proposal drafted by Senators Joe Manchin, Pat Toomey, and Chuck Schumer."

Yeah, that sure is a milquetoast statement, jwest.

Tell me again how the NRA was in the room when that compromise was being drafted and how the NRA is really on board with the whole thing.

Doofus.
