— Gabriel Malor Happy Friday. Finally.
NYTimes finally catches up to Andrew Breitbart, discovers -- shock! -- that the Pigford settlements are a major scam and fraud magnet that the Obama Administration used (after circumventing career federal lawyers) to deal out phoney reparations to favored groups.
Poll finds that most people say that Fox News was the most believable cable news channel for Boston coverage, CNN the least.
Obama's "red line" talk about Syria and chemical weapons was always a bluff.
Philip Klein has more on Congress' attempt to fix the part of Obamacare that requires that Congresscritters and their aides buy health insurance through the exchanges. Smart take; read it.
House Judiciary is making its own start on immigration reform.
And it's not just Sen. Baucus anymore; Democratic Sens. Shaheen, Harkin, and Cardin complain to the White House about Obamacare implementation. Too bad House conservatives left the implementation slush fund intact instead of moving that money to a program that expires in 2014.

At some point, someone in the chain of command is going to have to address the "Buddy System", it's required use, and where was the other Sailor she was required to be with.

Hello, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.
One of my favorite Sinatra songs is I Like to Lead When I Dance, which was written and filmed for the movie Robin and the Seven Hoods, though it was cut from the final print. The song was written by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, the Chairman’s ‘court songwriters,’ who penned some of his best songs - Ring-a-Ding-Ding!, The Last Dance, Come Blow Your Horn being just three.*
As is well known, Sinatra could be legendarily generous; he could also be capable of legendary cruelness. And not just cruelness in the sense of holding grudges,** but cruelness in a sort of droit du seigneur way – if you benefited from his largess in any way, you were, in his eyes, beholden to him. Loyalty was Sinatra’s highest requirement from those around him, and you were required to take what he dished out.
Which brings me to Jimmy Van Heusen. One night in 1961, Sinatra, Van Heusen and actress Dorothy Provine were at the bar of the Indian Wells Country Club waiting for Desi Arnaz. Arnaz at the time was the producer of The Untouchables, a show which infuriated the Mafia. A hit was ordered on Arnaz, but Sinatra was sent first to ‘talk some sense’ into the hotheaded Cuban.
Sinatra tried, but a drunk Arnaz sneered, “Whaddaya want me to do, Frankie, make ‘em all Jews?” He then went on to taunt Sinatra about the old days when the Chairman “couldn’t get a yob.” He finally dismissed Frank with, “Why don't you forget all this bullshit and just have your drinks and enjoy yourself? Stop getting your nose in where it doesn't belong, you and your so-called friends,”
Arnaz then walked away, leaving a humiliated Sinatra to mutter, “I couldn’t hit him. We’ve been friends too long.”
The night went on. Around 4.00am, Sinatra and Van Heusen ended up at the songwriter’s apartment, Sinatra still seething from his dressing-down at Arnaz’ hands. Once inside, Sinatra exploded and attacked one of Van Heusen’s prize possessions – an original Norman Rockwell painting, tearing it apart in a blind fury. When Van Heusen tried to stop him, Sinatra snarled, “Fuck you, Chester!”, slamming him against a wall.*** When leaving the house, his anger still burning, he gave Van Heusen one last warning: “If you try to fix that or put it back, I will come and blow the fucking house up.”
And there we are. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
*A 1991 compilation album, Sinatra Sings the Songs of Van Heusen & Cahn, collects the pairÂ’s work.
**Generous – when pianist Bill Miller’s wife was killed in a landslide, Sinatra paid for all funeral expenses and arranged to buy a new house to replace Miller’s lost one. Cruel – when Sinatra heard that his valet of twenty years had been spotted dancing with Mia Farrow (perfectly innocently), he was instantly fired.
***Van HeusenÂ’s real name was Chester Babcock.

See, I'm not even sure you know what that bill was about. It's like this: Dems want billions in slush fund discretionary spending to ease the rollout of Obamacare. GOP doesn't want that, since we'd much prefer Obamacare to crash and burn. Cons don't want the Dems to have billions in do-whatever-they-want money either, but not enough to actually do away with the funds without compete repeal this very second. Since that's not going to happen (hello, Democratic Senate, White House), they scuttled the bill. Yes, they were stupid, and I will keep saying so.

See, this is how we know you're wrong. Your plan (do nothing) keeps two things in place that you say are bad:
(1) Sebelius' slush fund.
(2) Federal high risk pools.
The GOP plan did away with Sebelius' slush fund. The GOP has less bad things (as you reckon it), and that's a better solution.
Instead, you gave the Democrats exactly what they wanted. Congratulations.

Apparently they are having trouble getting enough jury selectees to show up when summoned. I've been on federal jury call for the entire month of April. Yes, it's a pain in the ass to have to call in every night, and an even bigger pain to actually go in for the selection process. And there is a potential penalty for failing to comply:
Any person summoned for jury service who fails to respond or appear may be ordered by this court to appear at their own expense to show cause why they failed to comply with the summons. Any person failing to show good cause for non-compliance with the jury summons may be fined not more than $1000.00 or imprisoned not more than three (3) days, or both, pursuant to Title 28, USC Section 1866(g).
Now, this is about the CA jury system so maybe those liberal shitweasels in charge don't have an enforcement mechanism -- but they should.
Unless that would hurt someone's feelings.

This is actually a punishment

Actually, since CA moved to the one day/one trial program, the experience has gotten much better. And since they've tightened up severely on exclusions, the quality of jurors has noticeably improved.
All the more reason to be outraged by letting illegals -- whoops -- guests serve in judgment of the rest of us.

Yes, because using the police power of government to take money away at gunpoint from other people to pay your medical bills is preferable.
While he certainly can speak for himself, I think Sven would rather help his own mother than she have to lean on the government. Sounds like, but he isn't. Mostly its the framing thats been gaining steam ["you don't care about ___________"] that accounts for that impression. sven is first saying he doesn't have to pay your freight - and he's right there. More controversial is his point of view that we need to "let it burn" rather than save anything. If you're of the impression that we're on a collision course anyway, then feeling that crash earlier may be the only way to keep it from becoming world-crashingly catastrophic.
If it all does reach world-crashingly catastrophic levels - which I do think it may - then yes, a lot of folks will, frankly, starve in the streets. Here in the USA not Bangladesh or the Congo. It all sounds hard-hearted but its not. We're saying stop eating the seed corn.

You're the problem. Tearing apart the entire fabric of American society to "cover" a very tiny part of the population is outright stupidity, and if you can't understand that, well, we've little in common.
As I (and others) have pointed out here, there was a time, not that long ago, when one could purchase such assistance (Diabetes, in my family's case), but such programs are so constrained by Federal and State "assistance" that they have all but vanished. That, and the rise of the fascist state of medicine (harsh word? Not at all) have caused such problems. More government is not the answer. It is the root of the problem.

It's worse than the extra thousand (I've been over this with a professional so my math is sound) I still have to pay for all my doctor visits and labs at the new higher rates until I'm $10,000 out of pocket and 80/20 until $100,000
So that's going to be $1865 a month plus I pay all the bills and they have the discretion to deny care for whatever reason they want.

In any case, there was an incident one night in the late 40's or early 50's that never made the press, nor the police, due to the clientel involved. An up and coming star named Frank Sinatra was dining at one of the more favorable restaurants escorted by two body guards. In comes John Wayne and his posse who went to the bar as they waited to be seated. Drinks, laughter.. a bit loud but harming no one. Frank informs his thugs to go tell the merry goers to be quiet. Wayne's response to the request was less than polite. Fight broke out. John shit kicked both the body guards. Dragged one of them over to Franks table and threw the lout across it saying, "your steak is ready."
Frank and his bodyguards left.
My friend did meet John Wayne one night on a yacht in the late 70's. Drunk as punch, but one hell of a guy.

That's really funny gabe. I'm pretty sure as a guy with ~12,000 posts last year and at least 10% of them making sense you'd know who the fuck I am.
Saving the country is not going to be done by making it "new and improved and only 61.5% Socialist!
It needs structural change, see this is sort of how I know you are not really a republican at all in the classic sense.
I just love how you think something that the GOP wants is "socialist." This is a classic of True Conservative (TM) argument: question the bonafides of anyone on the Right that doesn't agree with you. Speaking of...
Which if fine, people need to eat. But it's not working, Gabe. You can keep picking the nits, but people don't want any part of this. You're not going to argue them into choosing the parts your employers are paying you to talk up.
There he goes, questioning my bonafides because I (and not just I, but the GOP caucus and lots of Republicans) disagree with him. For the record: I don't get paid to comment.
Also, Sven, you're full of shit. This?
I noticed your conspicuous absence from the NYC decides to play Lesbian Spin the Bottle as a class exercise yesterday.
I criticized that right alongside Ace on Twitter. I don't come in the comments much during the day because they are filtered at work. To write, I have to do it on my phone, which is a pain in the ass.

Good morning, all. This has been a hellacious week, and I see by the calendar that it's not over yet. One more day of exhaustive niggling over things that should have been completed weeks ago and then, at last, the blissfulness of the weekend!
I didn't watch the NFL Draft yesterday, but for those who did, I'd like to offer my very-nearly-sincere condolences to the fanbase of the NY Jets, whose coach has proven yet again to be a colossal clusterfuck. Because when what your team REALLY needs is some offensive firepower to prevent your lackluster QB from committing another Butt Fumble (tm), of COURSE your team goes out and drafts TWO defensive players in the first round. If I were not a Pats fan, and therefore a sworn enemy of the Jets, my condolences would not only be 100% sincere, but would probably come gift wrapped and accompanied by a large box of gourmet chocolates.
Oh, and since this is my first time getting to comment since the 2012 Commenter Rankings were released earlier this week, I have two things to say:
1) Oh God, I made it into the Top 20?
and
2) How the hell did I make it into the Top 20, yet Bannion, BC, and Radish are nowhere to be found? I demand a recount!

It was a cheap shot b/c that's how I brawl at times.
It was also somewhat Valid Brent.
Ace himself hinted at it. I am an ally of the LBGT movement after a fashion not as ardent as Ace but I have bi-sexuals I care about deeply and it is not an affectation I *was* all in on Civil Unions. Too many LC Republicans seem to be getting a thrill off using the Act Up brigades to get their ponies. "I can quit anytime!" seems to be the bent.
Well no I don't think you can quit anytime, and the ONLY line of defense the GOP has against the 'cardinal sin" of the 21st century thus far of "h8er intolerance" is our minority and "special class" members saying 'uh no I am a Republican and XYZ this is too far."
The new name of the game is "Sven you are white and a male and thus are wrong at once and to blame for every misdeed by the right."
Chris tingles and others had wet underwear they were so excited the GOP had finally gone Ayers last week....
"collective guilt" is the new macarena.
I find it interesting that Gabe is on the gay issues advocacy train like a cuckoo clock 24/7 365 and it is his right.
I also find it interesting that when the chips are down and the LGBT alliance overreaches a bit Gabe is in stealth mode.
He was on Twitter, I know he could have popped in his head and offered some comfort or said "nah we'll get this under control" instead he was on about our not saving his pony.
I have already decided this year that my held since I was 16 years old "First trimester" silence was a mistake. I have decided that because planned parenthood has no problem with what Gosnell did other than he should have kept a cleaner office(on the Taxpayer dime).....
I won't become a gay basher who tries to force the LGBT right into a closet but I am not going to be as sympathetic an ear or a voice calling on granting room if they think part of tolerance is my son being told to ask for hugs and kisses from boys.
No animosity meant to you BC1981 just laying out the guardrails of where I am on the road.
You *are* one of the "more entertaining flamers" I was calling on.
I can be funny sometimes, I can be a decent writer at others, I don't tend to fight nice or politely.
I accept that and in the interests of not fucking up the horde's friday I'll refrain from posting quite so much this weekend.

Just winging it here, but typically we would require a Buddy on liberty, and leaving the base in a case like hers.
On actual chargeable Leave, a Buddy would be encouraged, but not required.

Exactly. Much like the genetic kidney disease that caused my kidneys to fail, caused me to spend 4 years on dialysis, and caused me to have a transplant. This all came about because my mother chose to have a genetic mutation. Much like my Type 2 Diabetes caused by my anti-rejection medication. I guess I made a risky choice in deciding to go ahead and take medication that keeps me alive, so I deserve to suffer.
Some people really need to either think before they speak or not speak at all. The latter is probably a better choice.

The problem is that, since it's an individual policy, its cost is set to go up anywhere from 35%-75% under Obamacare as the individual policies will be hardest hit. People don't understand insurance at all nor do most people want to pay for an expensive policy.

Any recommendations for a good news site to replace
Drudge? I fell for another Infowars story again this morning and am
getting sick of it.
Generally if you hover your mouse cursor over a link and then look at your browser's status bar, you'll see the link's URL. If it goes to Infowars, just dont' click that link. That's what I do.
Drudge is about the best, easiest to use news aggregator I can think of, but Weasel Zippers is another good one. It's much more of a blog type site, similar to the HQ, but it's updated very frequently.

Well after the last few years cheering for a team that seems more concerned with winning press time than games, I've gotta admit, I don't really mind the liberals' push to ruin football anymore.
Regarding the NY Middle School's mandatory lesbianism: That district is in a county right next to mine. I don't care that I have no kids, I pay a ransom every year in property taxes to my school district, double what I pay for the rest of the city. If I ever hear that my school district is doing this shit I will march right in there and heads will roll.

"Not sure I believe that story since they reported to be great friends. "
It was a rumor from someone who was in the business. Probably never happened, but there are some notorious parties that took place where John Wayne did exchange blows with guys and, yes, some of them were his friends. I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility though.
I like Frank's music personally. Him singing "Only the Lonely" put the hook in me. He was going through a rough patch when he did that one and you can hear it. I doubt if I would want to work for him or chug beers later though.

Churchill, the first statesman to feature, will be pictured alongside a view of Westminster with parliament's clock showing 3 o'clock – the approximate time on 13 May 1940 when Churchill declared in a speech: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat."
He will replace social reformer Elizabeth Fry.

"We don't live in your fantasy world where health insurance is actually insurance and regulations haven't distorted the health coverage market beyond science and reason"
So instead of stating that as a goal and expending efforts in that direction, let's allow the other side to dictate the boundries and goals.
And that's "reality" how again?
Certainly one can choose to work withing a given system or set of guidelines, but even so one may still work to opposing goals.
"hey, we're going to make this fecal sandwich taste less, well, fecally" isn't a winning strategy, much less attractive to voters...

Here in Tulsa, we had a judge who loved doing that with the Tulsa PD. Once the TPD had delivered you to the courthouse, then you got your contempt citation and fine--unless you had a great and verifiable excuse. He is retired now.

Ok, enough of this "lyrics" shitte. Neutron bomb dropped:
it's a world of laughter, a world or tears
its a world of hopes, its a world of fear
theres so much that we share
that its time we're aware
its a small world after all
CHORUS:
its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small, small world
There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone.
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small small world
Later, all...

Getting us out of this prison isn't going to happen just by yelling, "let us out, let us out, let us out!" It's going to take deliberate action. We're not going to get Obamacare repeal in one fell swoop. In case you hadn't noticed, we don't control the Senate or the White House. So we're going to have to take it apart a piece at a time.

Don't misunderstand, I'm a perfect gentleman. Especially in public. I place a high value on propriety and good form. That's my mom's fault. She's a saint.
I also treat women well. I'm big on the mutual respect thing. That's my dad's fault. He's a saint.
I'm a proud, sarcastic alpha male though. That's my fault, and I am not a saint.

1. My sister, who is a miraculous survivor of a juvenile bone cancer. She is uninsurable except through group plans, and so, at the age of 60, is still working retail in order to have insurance.
2. Myself, because I am on 3 blood pressure meds. I have been unable to get health insurance since my husband went to work for a foreign company whose insurance firm will not cover anyone living in the US. (This rule came right after Obamacare passed.)
Those of you who think that all uninsurable people are in that situation due to their lifestyle choices should perhaps get out and talk to people a little more.
The following illnesses will put you on the uninsurable list and are not due to lifestyle: rheumatoid arthritis, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, cancer, chronic high blood pressure. There are probably more.
Obamacare increased the number of people denied insurance because insurance companies had a small window where they could refuse all except the young and healthy before it forced them to take everyone.
This type of ignorant and hard-hearted blustering about pre-existing conditions is why we don't have nice things, like a GOP congress or president.

Getting a HRP that should be handled at the state level to be funded to have the mules turn into "The GOP is telling HRP types to go fuck themselves" if allowed to end is not "smart."

Mom was HRP so was Evel Knievel and until my son was born I feared he would be....
like a lot of women not from there while we lived in El Paso wife popped hot on the UltraSound for Open Nueral Tube, the DoD (at the time) paid for a second test that said 85% he is a false positive on the other.
I do empathize but we cannot undo reality with a printing press and gifting total care is how we got into the current mess.
Anyway I'm not hard hearted I just want solutions that don't blow up the last remaining vestiges of price dynamic.

Of course there are people who have a pre-existing condition (morbid obesity, for example). There are also people who are addicted to drugs and smokers, the latter being a LEGAL substance.
There are also people who are high risk but get insurance, such as sky-divers, mountain climbers, motorcycle riders, etc.
All I am asking is that before people get all self-righteous about pre-existing conditions (which I actually READ here) then they should understand what conditions put a person in the uninsurable category.

I pay cash for my medical care, and will do so until I go on medicare, which I ALSO know is a crappy government controlled program, but unless you are extremely wealthy you would be a fool not to sign up, since one major illness will easily bankrupt a family.
My preferred healthcare reform would be to allow people to buy catastrophic policies and pay cash for everything else (doctor visits, meds, most lab tests).
The indigent could be treated through some sort of a voucher/allowance at clinics or through charitable work by docs, much like pro bono work is done by legal firms.
I am not some super-smart person on health policy, but I know a stinker of a law when I see it.

Damn, dude...I'm not interested in "fixing" anything having to do with Obamacare. Let it be implemented in its full clusterfuck glory. If it causes anyone to suffer, they had the chance to implement a true fix by voting Il Douche out of office...but they didn't, so fuck 'em.
The only "fix" I'm interested in is a full repeal. And if that means things have to get extremely ugly in the meantime, so fucking be it.
