Happy Tuesday.

CNN/ORC International has another one of those weird polls of the Obama Administration (PDF). The President's personal favorables are up. But he's way, way down -- actually underwater -- on handling the major issues of the day. On immigration, only 44 percent approve, down from 51 percent in January. On guns, disapproval has edged up to 52 percent, from 49 percent in January.

Speaking of polls, it is yet early, but there's an odd gender gap forming for Sen. Rand Paul among Republican voters.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, April 09, 2013.  On this day in 1963 Winston Churchill was made the first honorary US citizen. There have been 7 such citizens total.  Perhaps we should do the same for Margaret Thatcher?

5 This is why I think the asylum laws in this country are such shit and should be abolished.  This family is about to be deported back to Germany.  They came here seeking asylum because they wanted to home school in a Christian environment and Germany forbids that.  But we are going to send them back because they say there is no “right to home school”.  Well, what was ObamaÂ’s AuntÂ’s reason for asylum, NONE.  I suppose these folks are being sent back because they are white, Christian, Europeans and therefore not part of the “new privileged” class.

Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  TodayÂ’s story is about the delicious gamine Colleen Moore, a bouncy, vivacious woman whose short skirts and bobbed hair were as much shorthand for “flapper” as the flaming red hair and garters of her fellow star Clara Bow.

WeÂ’ve talked before about the changeover from silents to sound and how a lot of actors didnÂ’t make the transition.  The ones who were determined to have “voices,” however, couldnÂ’t rest.  Unless they had had Broadway training, they were put under the care of speech coaches, who would teach them the proper way to speak, producing pear-shaped vowels and cut-glass diction (this is a reason, by the way, that many stars of the early 1930s sound vaguely English – itÂ’s the voice teacher).

So young Miss Moore was placed under the tender care of a stately Boston Brahmin – a Beacon Hill dowager whose family fortune had seen better days.  As Moore was ushered into her presence, the woman boomed, “I am required to teach you to speak?  Why, youÂ’re a mere slip of a girl!  And they actually pay you ten thousand dollars a week?”

Moore lowered her eyes.  “No, maÂ’am,” she replied softly.  “Twelve thousand.”

This is Colleen Moore:  http://tinyurl.com/d9l2u48

And there you are.  Hope you liked that.  And, as always, I hope you all have a wonderful day.  Best of luck at the doctorÂ’s, Vic.

33 Homeschooling! If they were dealing drugs and changing their oil in the street next to the pep boys they would be OK, but we can't allow no homeschooling. The ca fertility thing is a way to get in vitro and whatever else paid for by the taxpayers. If they are "infertile" it is a medical condition, and not a lifestyle choice. You see, being gay is a disease when calling that gets money from the taxpayer.

41 It is mandated that employers provide this insurance coverage, regardless of their feelings on the matter. About a decade ago my cost to provide health coverage cost about $25.00 a month more per employee per month if I wanted to provide birth control and abortion coverage. I didn't want to. I'm sure the cost is significantly higher today. I'm sure employers will just pass the cost through to employees or increase no-pays and deductibles. Cost thereby shifts from women to men. That's what the 'war on women' is all about. Projection.

You get the point, right? - "Speaking of polls, it is yet early, but there's an odd gender gap forming for Sen. Rand Paul among Republican voters." How is that odd? It's axiomatic. Paul's supporters consist of young fanboys or loopy, arrested development fanboys. Either way we're talking about males. Women generally speaking have too much on their plates to be Paul supporters. Whether Ron or Rand. And those females who would have enough time on their hands and empty-headedness to be Paul supporters tend not to be at all interested in politics.

87 #78  When the was offered the part in the Beach Party movies,  she went to Walt Disney (whom she always called Mr. Disney) and asked his opinion.

He requested that she wear a one-piece bathing suit,  and that is what she did through all of those movies.

She went public about her MS because some of the tabloids were remarking on her unsteady walking and were speculating that she had a drinking problem,  and she didn't want her fans to think that.

All in all,  she was a good person and I am sorry she is gone,  as I was one of those kids sitting in front of the TV in 1955 when Mickey Mouse Club debuted.

95 I think it's time that these polling outfits were stopped from churning out any more of this biased, pro-Republican push-polls.  Look, we all know that President Obama is popular and that his policies are just what this country needs.  Pretty much everybody except for a few racist, xenophobic, homophobic, sexist Republicans and other right-wing extremists agrees with President Obama's policies, so why these polls that supposedly say otherwise?

I'll tell you why - right-wing media propaganda, that's why.  That's what happens when the news media are corporate-owned.

Obviously, we need to nationalise ALL media outlets - including blogs - and require them to only print the truth, which is that President Obama is tremendously popular and so are his policies.

"A list of rappers and stars, including Russell Simmons, LL Cool J, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Kim Kardashian, and many more, have written an open letter to President Obama to ask that he ease the nation's drug policy. They also ask that prison policy be changed, too.

"During your presidency you have made important steps and you now have the opportunity to leave a legacy by transforming our criminal justice system to an intervention and rehabilitation based model. Many of those impacted by the prison industrial complex are among your most loyal constituents," they write. "Your struggles as the child of a single mother allow you to identify with millions of children who long to be with their parents. We request the opportunity to meet with you to discuss these ideas further and empower our coalition to help you achieve your goals of reducing crime, lowering drug use, preventing juvenile incarceration and lowering recidivism rates. We stand with you, ready to do what is just for America.""

225 The highly anticipated New York trial of Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law could be delayed because his court-appointed lawyers have been hit by US budget cuts, they said Monday. Secondly, what're the odds this group of criminally-inclined    artistes    had to hire someone to actually write this letter for them, since I doubt 3/4 of them could     spell half the words in it.     "Constituents?"   Right.

There is nothing wrong with extending background checks to gun shows as long as there is no gun registration (i.e. a federal database) related to it.  It would be no different than the current law where you buy guns at a gun shop.

In what appears to have been a major diplomatic breach, the family charged with looking after the creature for Hollande have instead slaughtered it for a stew.

Mali had presented the camel to Hollande for spearheading a military campaign to drive Al Qaeda militants out of the country and liberate Timbuktu from the yoke of Islamist rule earlier this year.

French defence minister jean-Yves Le Drian revealed the fate of the animal, just days after Hollande had pledged to use it for official transport...

As an interesting aside, I had the misfortune of having to go to the local SSA office to apply for a SSN for lil' assault flounder, yesterday.  Surprise! There was an armed guard at the door to greet you by acting like a sanctimonious prick.  And there was a heavy glass partition (bullet proof?) that separated the pitch fork crowd (and oh was it crowded) from the precious treasures that "worked" there. It was kind of like what you see in some banks and in convenience stores in places like Chicago or LA.

Now you cannot tell me that these gems are worth protecting more than children. Yet, our schools are mandated target-rich environments.

By my luck, I had followed the online guidance on which forms to bring.  However, said sanctimonious prick was filled with glee when he could inform me that my papers were not adequate, and provided me with a locally produced printout, which spelled out exactly what they wanted.

In a way, it felt like I was transported back to 1943 Germany for a moment.  Only then, did I understand why they might need the armed guard and glass.

272 Help me, distributed Horde knowledge, you're my only hope!

So. I was reading this - http://bit.ly/12AXLXB - and nearly rage stroked. Let's see if I understand this correctly. A bill went through Judiciary Committee hearings and was voted out on straight party lines. However, that bill isn't the bill for which Reid wants to move for cloture. Oh, heavens no, everyone knows that the bill that went through the committee process was only a placeholder and that the actual bill is still being negotiated behind closed doors. Thus, if I understand this properly, Reid is attempting to get cloture on a bill that is currently vaporware. If I am correct, then Reid is attempting to cease debate on a bill that does not yet exist anywhere outside of the theoretical realm. Here's where I need help. I need stronger profanity to express my displeasure at such a process. Motherfucking motherfuckers lacks that certain je ne sais quoi to truly capture the incandescent rage I feel. Here's where I need help. I need stronger profanity to express my displeasure at such a process. Motherfucking motherfuckers lacks that certain je ne sais quoi to truly capture the incandescent rage I feel.

Indeed, my Queen, that is what we might call a poser.   A situation of this magnitude requires a level of profanity that as yet the human tongue has been unable to craft.      Where then do we look?   To the animal kingdom perhaps?  Simian shrieks blended with the    baleful     snarls of furious pumas may approach that   sense of justified, righteous, blistering outrage; but what is the use of expressing such outrage if the recipients of your wrath have no idea why you're hooting at them?

I find in these times that it is best to fall back on the pedestrian curse words of the human tongue,   but   rearranged in a fashion that creates NEW,   fleshy       profanity from the     dry    bones of existing     expletives.

For example:

"Fucksac-sucking   dildo cock hole motherfucking dickshits!   Burn in the scummy fires of fetid Hell on piles of putrid offal and discharge from the leaking dick of syphillitic Satan!"

317 Chicago, the place that makes Baghdad look like Vienna.

For a gun store owner to keep selling guns do you even know all the hoops he has to jump through?  There is the inventory book with the weapons and who it was sold to.  There is the form you fill out to purchase the weapon that he takes along with driver's license.  He then calls a number and runs a check on you.  Once you pass that check he can then sell a gun to you.  Once the transaction is completed the inventory book must be updated to reflect the sale.  And then BATF climbs through the gun store owner's colon doing an audit to make sure he is not selling weapons on the side to gang bangers.  If there is just one mistake in that inventory book, the owner faces Federal prison time.

So yeah its a state thing.  Next you gonna tell me that the sky is green.

Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at April 09, 2013 05:06 AM (0WpCx)

318 Then, if everyone at a gun show is a registered dealer, what's the objection?

Because those "private sellers" are very often really off-the-books dealers who are responsible for the straw purchases of guns and transfer to people who could never pass a fucking background check.  That's why.

And the "private sellers" who sell on classifieds, etc. are right there with them.

Where the fuck do you think all the guns in the hands of gangbangers come from, Vic?  Stolen guns only account for about 15%.  The rest are straw purchases and purchases through these phony "private sellers".  Maybe we can send some of these bangers down to Podunk, SC.. you might feel a little different about how they get their guns then.

There is nothing that is legal inside of a gun show that is illegal outside of one.  It's a red herring.

And if Jerry really needs an education, I'd suggest he actually go visit a gun show (he may need to drive a ways, as aren't they illegal in Chicago?) and take particular note of the phone banks where, yes, many many NICS checks are being performed.

His claim about "off the books" dealers is similarly fantastical.  It's clear he gets his knowledge of firearms laws from the same outlet that reported Gifford's use of the mythical Glock 9.

A certain age bracket is involved. Males are involved. Current drugs/treatment regimens are not working. If you know of someone with a child with Aspergers/Autism please refer them to this link... http://www.ovguide.com/tv_episode/ingenious-minds-season-1-episode-5-john-robison-3697691 It is a program about the treatment of an adult with A/A that actually worked using something called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Sounds fancy but by stimulating an area of the brain the patient said it was like being color blind, not even aware that colors existed, then being able to see and make eye contact with people. He now is able to not only make eye contact and act in socially acceptable fashion, but also give speeches before large crowds. Posted by: Billy Bob, pseudo intellectal at April 09, 2013 09:12 AM (wR+pz)

Yes, and most people I have dealt with privately on firearms transaction have required some form of good guy credentials, such as a carry license, LEO credentials, etc. It is the rare breed that functions as an unlicensed dealer under the guise of buying and sell from their private collections.  And there are times when these guys get prosecuted in highly publicized cases.

But that raises the question, if these guys are already doing something illegal (and they are under current law), then why aren't they prosecuted into extinction. It's an obvious answer, but for CTJ's benefit, because it is not about public safety or preventing crimes involving guns.  It is about control.  It is ALWAYS about control.

As a thought experiment, how long do you think these unlicensed dealers business model would last if they were selling guns to gangbangers indiscriminately, if all these leads start pointing back to one guy?  My suspicion is that even this small subset of unlicensed dealers would rather sell to someone with good guy credentials.

443 425 assault flounder,

http://www.saf.org/LawReviews/Zimring68.htm

The argument I am making is that a strict reading of the '38 and '68 laws already restricts the sales and defacto would require paper trails.

This *is* the game they play by the way....

they pass these fucking laws then take great pains to not enforce them.

While private citizens were to be excluded from commerce in guns, federally licensed dealers were to be much more strenuously regulated. The fees for all federal licenses were increased (the dealer license from $1 to $10),

Part of the reason this issue is so dicey is the specious and uneven enforcement of the law...

say for example you buy your son a 9mm Carbine....

It *is* a long gun and junior is 17, guess what under a strict reading of the GCA of '68 Junior is engaged in a crime if he is transporting 9*19 ammo...

See they decided that the kids aren't allowed to have handgun ammo and that is a provision, BUT they never enforce it because the ammo is not the issue it is the weapon "ideally"...

the whole fucking thing is a mess.

445 442 Assault Flounder,

Yes the rules have been enforced since '68 on FFLs the GCA of '38 and '68 both imply at least as strongly as the "wiggle room" used in saying "the 2d restricts private gun rights no serious you guys!' that individuals are responsible for knowing the data trail of a buyer, but "can't be prosecuted if they don't know"

you tell me the fuck the point of this shit is?

None of these laws are designed to do anything other than empower the state to fuck with the designated villain.

law with that sort of ambiguity is never good law, because what happens is the law is really whatever ATF or a cop says it is and a judge allows at that point.

F**k lawyers.

Sven, don't mistake this as an attack, because I am merely looking to verify the assertion, paraphrasing, "intrastate private transactions in firearms are subject to record keep requirements."  I was not aware of this, and I disagree as a general proposition.

Children and pistol ammunition is a different point, and I am in agreement on the general fuckedupedness of federal firearms laws, especially those relying on interstate commerce grounds.  But that is an aside.

From that link, although admittedly after only a search and scan of the term, "private," this seems at odds with my paraphrase of what you are saying.

"Private citizens, who could sell a gun or two from time to time, were not under a duty to verify the name and address of a transferee or to keep a record of the transaction."

It is news to me that private transaction are subject to the same or similar record keeping requirements as FFLs.  It is to one's interest to verify your buyer in a private transaction, due to the various (albeit largely unenforced) penalties that accrue on selling to prohibited persons.  However, I don't know of any record keeping requirement in federal statutes for private intrastate transactions.  I verify my buyer and might ask for a record as CYA, if the situation warrants it, but I would generally walk if I had doubts about a buyer.

Otherwise, I will not voluntarily become a snitch for the state and will leave their job of proving their case to them.  But I do steer way clear of any implications that I might be an unlicensed dealer, because, by all common interpretations, I am not.

452 OT/ I guess but what do you all think about them bugging McConnells  campaign office? Made it seem they were the "bad" guys because they were discussing ways to defeat old puffy face Judd. Mental issues and such... Love it if we could bug old harrys offices... Bet he has a lot of nice things to say about republicans....

453 How does that work for the male couples? Pump sperm up their ass? They call that "Tuesday." It's never going to result in a pregnancy, because - and hang on while I drop the fuckin science - men can't bear children. 455 451 Assault Flounder,

never took it as one, if I came across as well er "cross" I apologize.

My entire thrust is that the law is so self-contradicting, circuitous, murky, and willfully misinterpreted it is essentially whatever they want already.

I'll dig up the excellent cross post conversation between FFL lawyers I read once.

Today is the 10th anniversary of the fall of Baghdad and the toppling of Saddam's statue.

Who'd have thunk it then that no one would (want to) remember that today.
