— Gabriel Malor Happy Friday.
Rasmussen's most recent polling on Sen. Rubio -- and his first polling about Sen. Cruz -- came as a bit of a surprise. Cruz's favorable/unfavorable with Republican voters is 42/12.
Rubio's, by contrast, is 68/10.
Sen. Warren has a stupid idea about student loans -- and she probably knows it's a stupid idea, which hasn't stopped her from proposing it to garner support from stupid people.
Sen. McCain has once again introduced legislation to forbid cable providers from bundling channels; he also wants to end sports broadcast blackouts.
I'm not sure why it's all Senate news this morning.
Ah, here's something. Folks with implanted defibrillators, don't set things with magnets -- like iPads -- on your chests, m'kay?
Gawker's mole at Fox News pleaded guilty yesterday to a pair of computer crimes.
There's a rumor that Fox tv wants to bring back '24' now that Kiefer Sutherland's current show followed tradition in the Friday death slot.
Programming Note: I will be heading to FreedomWorks' Blogcon conference in Dallas tomorrow, where I'll be doing a panel discussion with Larry O'Connor, Dana Loesch, and Guy Benson about media accuracy. I won't be back until Wednesday, so one of the cobs will be covering the morning posts. Be good.

This also had the secondary intent of collecting taxes from the colonies through the Townsend Act, having the unpopular Stamp Act rescinded. At the time Great Britain was heavy into Mercantilism and the British East India Tea Company had a huge surplus of tea in its London warehouses and was struggling.
And the British Parliament was obviously no better than our Congress in judging the impact of their actions. This act resulted in the colonies boycotting British Tea and may be what led Americans to switch to coffee over tea. It culminated in the Boston Tea Party and eventually revolution. And today is Confederate Memorial Day in NC and SC.

Pentagon orders web page owner to take down 3-D printer plans for a gun from its web. Pentagon???? WTF??? The order appears to have been based on the BS UN Gun Control Treaty which has not been ratified. Shit just got real people. They are using the military to order citizens around based on a treaty that has not been ratified.

That has never happened to my knowledge when a Republican had to testify under like circumstances to a Democrat panel. This brings to question as to whether Holder was under oath when he testified about Fast and Furious. They do not call them the Party of stupid for nothing. She still broke the law because “lying to Congress” is a crime by itself.

Vic, re the helicopter shoot-down Beck yesterday talked about the contacts they had on this and said there were unvetted LOCALS along for the ride. The word came down that these guys were okay. The families allege that those locals tipped off the enemy vermin on the ground. As was also noted here right after this tragedy that that was an inordinate amount of SEALs to be allowed on one flight.
Remember Lincoln's adage that America would only be taken down from within?

News Flash - Hillary did not commit perjury! Sure, she lied, but the stupid idiots in the House allowed her to testify without being under oath.
Levin named names last night on who was responsible for this in the House. The senate, you'd expect it -- but shouldn't Cruz or someone have raised hell? The oath-free testimony was hatched in advance not by mistake.

Jeez, Vic, you're a cheerful little news-snowflake this morning, aren't you?
My only question is: When do people wake the fuck up and start taking steps to shove about 530 members of Congress and Choom Boy out of D.C.?
By any acceptable standards of decency and legality, this morning's headlines would be enough for impeachment, removal from office and imprisonment for all of these selfish, America-hating maggots.
But I don't expect any serious reaction, particularly from the Conservative Pundits. Maybe a few pathetic squeaks from NRO and Tepid Air in between their relentless pursuit of Shiny Stuff and Squirrels.
It may already be too late for us.

It's actually State. This is through the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controls. DoD flags sensitive technologies and State enforces the ITAR regime. I question whether or not this is a sensitive technology under ITAR, but additive manufacturing is still in its infancy so people are just groping their way through this shit right now.
I wouldn't go all eleventy quite yet.
If we started selling F-22s to Iran you would think that ITAR is a good deal all of a sudden.
Sounds like a good job for Ted Cruz.

Hello, fellow morons. Since I was drinking my angst away last night with a few Old Fashionds, todayÂ’s story will be short and, for once, take place in the 1960s.
To, I am sure, our pleasure, the loathsome Robert RedfordÂ’s new movie, The Company You Keep, is dying the death of a thousand dogs at the box office. HereÂ’s a story about his erstwhile partner, Paul Newman:
It was 1968, and Newman was in New Hampshire campaigning for Eugene McCarthy. One evening, after Newman had delivered a passionate anti-war speech, a policeman in his escort pointed to a fellow officer. “He got the call last night.”
“What call?” Newman asked.
“His son. Just got killed over there.”
A pale Newman approached the officer and offered his sympathies. Then, hesitantly, he asked, “What do you think about some creep, some Hollywood peacenik. . .coming in here and telling you about the war?”
The policeman assured Newman that he didn’t resent what the actor was doing. “Even if a war takes your boy,” he said, “that doesn’t make it right.”
Have a safe trip, Gabe, and thanks for the morning briefing, you and Vic.
Hope you all have a wonderful day and a lovely weekend.

I'm surprised that Rubio has actually lost support. He gets the second best press of any GOPer after Christie. Every media organization, including Fox, is in the tank for amnesty and does nothing but praise him. Even the talk show hosts like Rush and Levin who oppose his plan will gush about what an awesome guy he is.
Cruz, on the other hand, probably gets the most hostile coverage of any GOPer alive.

I'm not defending Romney, but he pretty much had to scrap Benghazi as an avenue of attack because he screwed it up by going after TFG's words when he should have gone after TFG's actions. TFG was prepared and defended with weasel worded statements, fed to him by that Crowley cow, but he could not weasel out of the fact that he did NOTHING while Americans were fighting and dying.
By making that choice Team Romney really screwed the pooch.

From what I've seen, Gabe uses weasel words to tell lies of omission, so you really can't tell from his wording here whether he's surprised by Cruz' or Rubio's poll numbers. But he is a lawyer, so he does have lower ethical standards than some of us.
Still, it's worth noting, despite Gabe's wording, that there is no clear and obvious link to Ras' polling data on Cruz, and the article itself notes that Rubio's numbers are slipping.

In practice, I think people would pay more per channel than they currently do. It can still mean an overall lower bill, which is mostly what matters. And I'd expect a big bundled package to continue to be cheaper on a per channel basis. Additionally, when people buy X number of channels, providers may throw in some other channels for free - channels that would not survive if people had to pay for them individually. To do that, of course we'd effectively be subsidizing them by paying higher prices for the other channels. In order for that to work, new contracts would have to be worked out between the cable companies and content providers. But I imagine that would need to be done for a new a la carte system anyhow.
All in all a more dynamic system that would encourage competition - but it would not necessarily make all kinds of channels go belly up.
I think McCain is reverting to his McCain-Feingold tricks on this point:
"McCain also wants to prevent broadcasters from pushing popular programming to pay TV, when they should basically be available for network TV too."
The government should stay out of deciding what is sufficiently popular/useful and making sure it has to be "free."

This is why I find Ace's over-linkage to Tepid Air (especially Allahpander) so depressing.
Ace is far smarter -- and far more perceptive -- than the surrender monkeys who infest Clownhall.com. Even when he's on about Amanda Knox.
Why he insists on using CINO dimwits as source material passeth all understanding.

I suppose I will be accused of conspiracy theories or something, but as I asked on the ONT thread, "Why didn't the FBI confiscate Ambassador Stephens' diary?"
Remember, someone got it to Anderson Cooper, who was using it as an "unnamed source" to inform us that Stephens had complained about security.
He was forced to reveal that he had the diary and announced it on his program on CNN. He said at that time it would be returned to the family.
Why didn't the FBI send their Atlanta bureau chief over to CNN to get that diary right then? WAS it returned to the family? If so, did the FBI get it from them, or does the family still have it? Or was it destroyed?
Also, remember that e-mail from Philippe Reines (sp?) who was Hillary's assistant? He sent it to someone at CNN in high dudgeon over them supposedly passing it around. Ace even wrote a post about it.
SO, where is this diary which is evidence? Why was it ignored? What is going on?

Yes to all of this. I sometimes feel embarrassed at how much time I spend on obsessing about politics because I don't feel it's a healthy balance in life. The trouble is the JEF and his minions have flooded the zone with so many clusterfucks that I just move from one outrage to the next. A friend of mine who is on board with virtually every position I hold doesn't even know about half the shit that happens. I don't think that's an accident.

Speaking of Mark "The Spark" Sanford, Baja Carolina's gift the World, he was due in court Tuesday to answer for his unexpected visit to his ex-wife's home. Sanford plead out and avoided standing before the judge.
Sanford admitted being in contempt of the couple's divorce decree and agreed to pay $5,000 to defray his ex-wife's court costs. Sanford also agreed to stay away from her property or face up to a year in prison, a $1,500 fine and as many as 300 hours of community service.

An excellent choice. One of the few exceptions to my "nothing after 1960" rule.
And how about this as a short before or after Jackal?
It's a short film made by the National Film Board of Canada to promote tourism. It's called The Railrodder. It's a silent and stars the great Buster Keaton in one of his last pictures. He plays a tourist who travels the length of Canada on a railroad inspection car. You'll love it.

I don't think this is a surprise. Don't forget, most republicans in these polls are not conservatives and are not paying attention the way we are. Rubio has received much more national press coverage than Cruz, so most republicans don't know anything about him.
Those of us that come to sites like Ace's often forget that the republican party is made up of just as many low-information voters as the American electorate as a whole and also that the Republican party is not made up of a majority of people that are as conservative as we are.
Combine those two factors and it makes perfect sense that Rubio's polling is better than Cruz's among the GOP.

The Marines are a very good PR operation that happens to have combat equipment. When I went to the Naval War College there were a shitload of Marines in my cycle for some reason that year. Let's just say that they're not exactly the intellectual powerhouses of the Department of Defense and leave it at that.

As much as I hate John McCain and want him gone, he is occaisionally right.
McCain railed against broadcasters for basically giving consumers a choice of either purchasing a package of channels even if you don’t want a lot of them, or just not getting cable at all. He argued that consumers should not have to unfairly pay up for channels like ESPN, which costs over four dollars a month per household, if they do not want to watch ESPN. He said that anyone who has ESPN and ESPN2 in their cable package and doesn’t watch them is just “sending a check to Disney for about $70.”
If you want to fuck NBC, a-la-carte cable is the way to do it.

This is 100% correct. We often make the mistake in believing that conservatives are the bulk of the Republican party. We are not. We tend to do the same things we accuse liberals of doing. We live in an echo chamber at times. Here at AOSHQ, we all don't even believe the same things. Think about how many civil wars here have been sparked over this issue or that. Sometimes, a person is declared a RINO over one single issue. The person may agree with everyone else 99.9% of the time, but they are a traitor if they stray off the reservation even once.
We also make the mistake of believing that issues are equally important to everyone. Take the gay marriage debate. Polls may show that a certain percentage of people feel a specific way about the issue. For instance, say that Senator X is against gay marriage and that polls say that 55% of voters favor gay marriage. That doesn't mean that Senator X won't win re-election. It could be that only 10% of that 55% believe the issue is enough to influence their votes. That's 5.5%. That might be enough to swing the election, but it might not be. The voters may believe that his other stances on issues better fit with their beliefs.
This week, Benghazi is the big issue. Next week, it will be something new, the week after, something new again. Each week, the same names don't come up about each and every issue. We tend to see the names of people who are outspoken or who we 100% disagree with. I'm not saying we are right or wrong. I'm just saying that it colors our view of a particular person in a way that the average voter might not see.

The reson that these leftists push books about adultery (or other anti-social type behavior) is that they know once a book is deemed Important American Literature it will be required reading in the high schools, furthering the erosion of the bourgeois middle class.
Also, in the old days adultery was the Big Taboo so authors put it in there for shock value (See: Thomas Hardy's dreary Tess of the D'Ubervilles.)

Benghazi is just beginning to come out.
Why was Stephens in Benghazi meeting with a Turk on 9/11?
Probably illicit arms deals to and from Sunni radicals connected with al Qaeda in both Libya and Syria.
Why the Mo video story?
The White House and Democrats generally closely coordinate with Muslim Brotherhood front groups in the US like CAIR, MSA, and so on. Internationally we arm the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt with the latest modern weapons, and arm them in Syria with whatever.
The MB's* largest global push for a decade is to internationalize Islamic blasphemy under various modern-sounding names like "defamation of religion" or whatever the latest wording was in UN Res 16/18, which Hillary backed to passage in late 2011.
Until the passage of UNR 16/18 the US had consistently opposed criminalizing our First Amendment and making Islam the only religion practiced on the face of the earth.
There is a lot more, but those two biggies are still waiting to drop like lead shoes on the ceiling.
(*The Obama Administration is loaded with Muslim Brotherhood infiltrators, including State and DHS.)

Popular media, when trying to come up with some horrifying concept for a plot device, has used several themes on a recurring basis. One is obviously the zombie genre, which has been written about at length and I won't go into that here.
Another one is the "harvesting" genre. From Soylent Green to V to the Matrix to Mass Effect, purveyors of entertainment in all sort of mediums use the concept of human harvesting as the Big Bad Horrific Thing.
I don't think I need to explain why it's horrific as a concept. It's universal, that's why everyone gets it, and why it is used so often.
The thing is, our lives are being harvested every single day. Sure, we're not put in pods, hooked up to interfaces in our brains, turned into Duracells, liquified to make another species, or anything like that. But, our lives *are* being stolen.
We work a large portion of every day just to fulfill an obligation to a bunch of bureaucrats who make the rules and tell us what we can and cannot do. Those are hours we'll never get back. Months of every year. When your kids are born, they are automatically hooked into this harvest, obligated to grow up and slave away so Congress can get rich from insider trading and their friends can be subsidized with your daily sweat.
So, if the concept of being "harvested" is so universally abhorrent, why don't we use it to fight the left?

I guess we need to pass a law that says the Federal Government has to enforce the law. The border is their baby, and they do a sorry-ass job securing it.
At this point, I'd wish Rick Perry would take matters into his own hands, 'cause he's going to lose his job anyway once all those illegals vote, which is the whole ball of wax with this immigration sham anyway: turn TX blue, and the dems are in control from here on in.

I hate this kind of weasel-talk. Driving 54 MPH in a 55 MPH zone is also dangerously close to speeding. It is also entirely legal. So they say she's behaving properly whilst making it sound improper.

Ah, yes. We were just there this past Saturday. It's called Side Street Pizza and it's in Tryon, NC. I'm in Spartanburg and it's about a 1/2 hr drive. I know it sounds like a lot for pizza, but once you go there, you'll understand why it's packed all the time. It's outrageously good. Best pizza, bar none.

Being the Jets, it won't be a quiet dignified failure like Vince Young. It will be a high exposue shit filled land-mine of media excess. Most draft observers were laughing their asses off at this pick particularly because there are so many gaping holes elsewhere. I don't know who in the front office persists in believing that the Jets can somehow make dumb personnel choices but still succeed. They tried this with Braylon Edwards a few years ago, a talented wide receiver who inexplicably (well, if you ignored a drinking problem) tended to drop easy passes after making very difficult ones. Since those choices continue, I have to believe it's the owner meddling in moves, which is probably why Belichick chose to not take over from the Tuna, after dealing with hands on ownership in Cleveland, and instead went to New England.

If it makes you feel any better, limited government has been taking a consistent beating since ending slavery required a civil war, through Wilson, FDR and Johnson. Reagan, our hero, slowed the growth a bit.
The upside is that if you learned all the Founder's great warning quotes when you were young and read the great big government dystopian novels now you get to feel like a prophet.
Until there is a limited government fiscal conservative genocide I plan to stay over here with the sane people.

Had my first taste of CA pizza in MB...it is good stuff. And a nice change from all the less-than-good BBQ and all you can eat tourist traps down there.
Its located in N. MB on the main drag. Another excellent restaraunt in the same plaza( barefoot landing) is a place called Umberto's. Tasty Italian food south of the border!! Large portions, fair price.

Thanks, really. If pop culture is what helped get us into this, we can use it - their own creations - to help get us out.
Imagine an ad that talks about tax day, and the time each person needs to fund the government, and intersperses that with imagery from the Matrix, or a death panel ad that uses carousel from Logan's Run? Geeks get this shit. Geeks share it, too.
They give us what they think is universally bad - so let's draw parallels to it with what they are actually doing.

Maybe McCain's foray into that will start a little hubbub in the industry and cause one of the big cable providers to take a risk on an ala carte delivery model.
None other than one of the famed Emanuel brothers admitted that Glenn Beck was on the cutting edge of TV with his subscription channel. I believe Waldo, above, has caught on nicely. Waldo, please 'splain to me, though, how shows are available minutes after they air. In my case, I pay (hugely) for cable for a couple AMC shows. Is it really possible to watch Mad Men, i.e., and pay per episode besides downloading it from iTunes?

I guess you haven't been paying attention to Beck. His listeners and watchers have gotten him onto, if I'm not mistaken, 9 cable services, so far.
"Glenn BeckÂ’s TheBlaze Gets Picked Up By Major New York-Area Cable Provider" http://tinyurl.com/bol2jd5 Just by making a ruckus. I gave you a link to the latest article, there are many others, it's a good strategy. And, the blaze radio network is on I heart radio now in addition to the blaze network online.
And Michael Savage won a suit which essentially is ground breaking, in all probability a game changer. "Michael Savage wins landmark case in federal court" http://tinyurl.com/bljwweu
Cable bills in large metropolitan areas are huge, just huge. And, when cable came calling, their calling card was "we are commercial free" so the subscribers who are original still remember that little claim and get annoyed each and every time they see another cable commercial. Plus verizon wireless is breathing down their necks in several markets. They have to do something to keep the bills as low as possible, provide the content and, keep the subscribers from defecting.
I just worry that Senator McCain's new model would allow them to raise the rates on many subscribers if they wanted to keep their service as it. Sure you might be able to choose your programming and maybe lower your bill, but I seriously doubt that. Instead you might end up losing access to content. Would be nice if someone introduced a bill requiring cable to lower their costs and reminding them their charters said "commercial free".
