The Repukes always get rolled on this shit.  The first time Gorelick showed up as part of the 9/11 panel every Repub should've climbed on top of the desk, dropped trou and given her a copious golden shower.  And then told her that it will continue every fucking day until she appears on the other side of the panel.  But they never do; they always bend over for the donks and say "just don't kick me too hard".  Fucking twats.  It would be nice to have a real opposition party.

It is long past time to recognize that we need a tax code that does not include congress sticking their nose into people's private affairs -- not on the right, not on the left, and not in the middle.

90 #24  Hi,  Vic.  I know something about this because I have a friend who works in a cancer registry which tracks types of cncer and treatments for her hospital.

A small percentage of women have a gene for a type of breast cancer which is hereditary.   This gene almost guarantees that they will get breast cancer. In the article I read this morning they pegged the odds of Jolie getting it at 87%.
In addition,  the hereditary type of breast cancer is one which spreads a bit more quickly.

Pre-emptive mastectomies are often recommended for women with this condition.  Removal of the breast tissue before cancer has appeared allows a less radical surgery (no removal of lymph nodes) and the insertion of implants within a short time.

I do not feel she went overboard.   I imagine at some point she will have her ovaries removed as well, since she carries the gene for ovarian cancer,  too.

Just remember that a former president came off a big re-election victory, was impeached, and had to resign in disgrace. Wasn't all that long ago.

Of course Richard Nixon wasn't President Historic First©. Despite being a crook (and yes, apologists, he was), he was not an America-hating racist with a fawning press kneeling in front if him and didn't have the protective coating of Blackdemocratium.

If our current Congress was not riddled with slimy liberal traitors and conservative cowards, impeachment resolutions with Choom Boy's name on 'em would have been passed many months ago.

102 The wife of a former coworker had the gene for breast cancer and had the radical mastectomy done. Her Mom and sister both died from the disease, and she had several pre-cancerous lumps removed prior to that. Her driving philosophy was that she wanted to be around for her children as they grew up. They are still pretty young. Can't fault the thought process on that one, although I'd have to think hard on it myself. This woman WAS "doing it for the children ".

Hello, 'rons and 'ronettes, and thanks for the morning briefing, Vic.

To start with, I have to say, I'm astonished that Gosnell got nailed at all.  For once, my cynicism was unjustified.  And as far as the AP story is concerned – IÂ’d love for some GOP mouthpiece to find an AP rep and ask, on camera, “So, now that your precious Obamessiah is coming after you, are you finally going to take off your kneepads?”

Anyway, on to today's story.  It's about Charlie Chaplin, and comes courtesy of the director Raoul Walsh.  It seems that one night in 1914, Walsh met Chaplin at a bar called Levy's Tavern, where a lot of the early movie people liked to gather after a day's work.  Chaplin had just come over to America and was starting at the bottom at the Keystone studio, so he hadn't yet created his iconic Little Tramp character.

Walsh and Chaplin chatted for a while, then, as things were breaking up, he offered to drive the Englishman home.  As they drove, Chaplin admired Walsh's car.  "I have ninety dollars saved up," he said.  "Do you know where I can buy one?"  Walsh replied that he knew an actor who sold used cars at a little lot down on Figueroa and Santa Barbara Avenue.  "If you're not working Saturday, I'll drive you over."  The two shook hands and Walsh drove off.

The next Saturday morning, he pulled up in front of Keystone and noticed that the gates were closed and the whole place looked deserted.  He asked the gateman what had happened.

Walsh was told that six months before, a lady had come to the studio with her 17-year old daughter, a very pretty girl who played several small parts and had the makings of a good actress, only she got pregnant.  So Mother went to see the district attorney.  But, as it turned out, Mack Sennett - head of Keystone - had a friend in the DA's office who called and left word at the studio:  "If anybody had anything to do with the girl, tell him to get out of town for a few days."

"And would you believe it," the gateman finished, "the whole studio took off!"

"Did Chaplin go, too?" Walsh asked.

"Go?” the gateman roared.  “He was the first to leave!"

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

118 #107  Well,  this type of surgery allows the implants (same thing as breat enhancement procedure) so Mr. Pitt isn't going to miss anything.

And as you said,  she is not doing this on her own opinion.  It is a common procedure done for women with this gene.

If you had to go in every 3 months to find out if cancer had appeared yet,  and knowing how quickly the type you are prone to would spread,  and if you had 6 children to think about,  I think you would probably elect this procedure.

BTW, I don't care if a cure for AIDS is EVER found, can we please just focus on preventing/curing cancer?

124 inre the AP records grab: I'm listening to all kinds of righteous anger from reporters on this, but consider...just a few months ago those same reporters were in a full court press to get gun owners entered into government lists just because they own guns. If we were talking about the phone records of the NRA Board of Directors being secretly seized, I doubt we'd hear a peep about it from those reporters. For that reason it's hard for me to get overly exorcised about the rights of reporters. Of course I'm disgusted by the DOJ and Holder doing this, but I'm looking at it as par for this particular course. This will be excused as well, because the MSM is like an abused wife. They aren't going to criticize their guy. Instead they are going to go out of their way to explain/excuse it and remain silent when other people are the target of the Administration's wrath.

129 Angelina Jolie had both breasts removed because she had cancer gene. Why not have more testing instead of a double radical mastectomy? Some of you medical Morons or ladies in the know clue us in here. Was this a smart move?

http://is.gd/vJfONH Posted by: Vic at May 14, 2013 07:00 AM (53z96

Considering that she has a family history of women dying from cancer, I'd say yes.   The "more testing" to which you refer is the test to see if you have the genetic marker for propensity to breast cancer.   If that comes up positive, then it is time to consider taking steps before you get breast cancer.   Waiting until you have a lump may very well be too late.

Two of my friends have had prophylactic double mastectomies for exactly the same reason.   Given both of their family histories, if they had waited until "huh that doesn't feel right", they would both probably be dead.   Better to swap out before that point.

Just a reminder to all the 'rons, men get breast cancer as well and it's generally far more deadly for men simply because men aren't screened for it.

130 Been thinking about the AP thing.

If you ask me,  Brennan WAS the one who leaked that information,  either him or that oaf Tom Donilon,  who by the way has seemed to have disappeared from any discussion of Benghazi,  as has Brennan.

They could be letting the reporters know they have the phone records of OTHER contacts to keep whoever got the info from Brennan or Donillo quiet.

131 On the IRS thing, here is how ABC radio news opened the story: "Both parties and the President are expressing outrage over IRS activities targeting specific groups..." Yeah. That's what I saw yesterday from Obama. Outrage. Yes, that's it.

Posted by: @johntant at May 14, 2013 03:41 AM (29y8Q)

132 Having read one paper this morning, it is clear how the press is going to handle the IRS and Benghazi things--because they simply cannot transcend their own belief limitations: As far as the IRS issue, they will not defend it, will not castigate the groups persecuted, but along the way, as a damage control mechanism, will question the entire non-profit status category for political groups (the safest fallback position), and will say the entire episode happened because of the "crush" of applications, instead of the real reason--an animus from government workers against anyone threatening Democratic rule, either for that simple reason alone, or because of a genuine conviction arising out of a stereotype that the Tea Party was a corporate shill (or a bunch of racists). Systematic inequality before the law and before societal institutions (in a way the Left would never tolerate) will be denied, when it is in fact a growing problem that needs to be nipped in the bud today. As far as Benghazi, it is clear the President was trying to use the incident to tighten the rule of political correctness that says "thou shalt not question Islam". His head should roll for that alone--not impeachment, but he should suffer a permanent loss of reputation of character, because Islam as practiced by many is a direct entry into a new age of barbarism, because that religion has not had the moderating hand of an Age of Reason removing excesses from it as Christianity had the excesses accumulating since the days of the Apostles removed a few centuries back, and many will die in the future who needed not to have because we were prevented from saying that hlunt fact by Democrats. Overall, we still stand within walking distance of the precipice leading to Oceania unless we simply demand spades be called spades. That is starting to happen, but not fully yet, and we must be willing to blow up the entire thing unless the deification of all things Progressive, the issuance to it of a cloak of infallibilty, stops, and stops hard, across the board--public schools, academia, government, entertainment, news.

Between the IRS, Benghazi, F&F, and general shredding of the the Constitution, there's enough that even Tepid Air should be howling (or in "Captain Ed's" case, tittering mildly) for impeachment.

Right.. because a lot of what they were doing involved gathering names of donors, etc.  If they were just trying to harass those groups, there wouldn't be this pattern of data collection.  That data went somewhere.. follow the trail and I'm betting it leads to Choom Kings campaign offices in Chicago.  Because that's what they do.. that's how he got elected to his first office, and every office thereafter.. by digging up dirt on his opponents.

That's one of the problems with "causes".  The ones that make the most noise draw the most money regardless of the actual impact.  Take for example the disease I have.  I have a genetic disease known as Polycystic Kidney Disease.  It causes cysts to form on the kidney until they replace all the kidney tissue and the kidneys fail.  (Mine did, and I went through dialysis and have had a new kidney for over a year.)  Its estimated that 600,000 people in the US have it.  It is the number one life-threatening genetic disease there is, and very few of you have even heard of it.  You have heard of genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, Huntington's disease, Down's Syndrome, muscular dystrophy, and hemophilia.  There are more people with PKD than all of those diseases combined.

What drives the publicity for those other diseases is that children can be trotted out to raise sympathy for them.  There is a form of PKD that affects children, but it is rare and the children rarely survive infancy.  Short of a genetic test, adults typically can't even be diagnosed until after they are 30 and the cysts are large enough to be detected by an ultrasound.  Since 15% of the cases can arise from a spontaneous genetic mutation, family history may not even help.

170 24 Angelina Jolie had both breasts removed because she had cancer gene. Why not have more testing instead of a double radical mastectomy? Some of you medical Morons or ladies in the know clue us in here. Was this a smart move? http://is.gd/vJfONH No. Breast cancer can be (and is) screened for and can be caught early. There are also oral meds you can take that reduce your chances of getting it to the same level as everyone else. Now the gene also can be an indicator of a higher chance for ovarian cancer, which cannot be tested for and is rarely found before it is too late. If it were me, and I tested positive for the gene, I'd keep the boobs and have the egg sacks yanked. My husband's ex has the gene. Last year she did the radical mastectomy and hysterectomy. Everything was still normal when she did it but she had told the entire town she is a cancer survivor. No, evader maybe but not survivor.

171 Re: Jolie. She made a reasonable and medically justifiable choice. She did not have to have a double Radical mastectomy, she has undergone a bilateral mastectomy. Big difference., night and day difference. The breast tissue was removed. Reconstruction done well turns out great, no radiation damage to the tissue, no chemo destroying her strength or ability to recover. Her high risk was high. Testing is fraught with error, anxiety, ( not to mention pain, cost and the inconvenience of constant monitoring) and would not necessarily stop the time bomb in time

NASA is asking the public to submit haikus — three-line poems with a standard 5-7-5 syllable structure — to ride aboard its Maven Mars orbiter.

Three haikus will make it onboard the Maven spacecraft. You can submit poems (which must be in English) until July 1, and an online public vote to select the three winners will open on July 15.

The $670 million Maven mission — short for Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN — is slated to launch on Nov. 18 and arrive in an elliptical orbit around Mars on Sept. 22, 2014.

I am not a big fan of either Jolie or Pitt,  but for gosh sakes can we not just let this be?  There are numerous posts here now about other,  non-Hollywood women who have done the same thing for the same reasons. 200 Logical thesis of the day: Why the "we would cover this but Mitt Romney/Republican X said this"-- Because why would that matter? It wouldn't seem to, unless the story was true enough to cause political damage to Democrats, in which case one could see how it might matter, emotionally, to "reporters". But then that means that "journalist" will only cover a story if they can be assured no significant political fallout accrues to the Left. That is the only way the "we can't cover this now that Mitt Romney said something" makes true sense. As to whether that is a good and ethical thing, a thing of integrity, I leave to posterity to judge.

No.  Since it is different genetic material, it doesn't carry the gene.  That's why they like transplanting into us.  We can't hurt the new kidneys from our disease.  Now, we can hurt it in other ways (diabetes, high blood pressure, overuse of NSAIDs) but not from PKD.

This has been growing in popularity in the last few years..  There are two genetic tests now that doctors have been advocating - especially for women with family history.   If you have the gene, they can compute your likelihood of getting breast cancer.

Many women have already been opting for the preventative mastectomy.  By getting rid of the breast tissue, there's no where for the cancer to start.. and then it is unable to spread to lymph nodes and beyond, which is the real killer.

238 During the campaign, the president could just get away with claiming he said “act of terror,” since he did use those words — though not in the way he often claimed. It seemed like a bit of after-the-fact spin, but those were his actual words — to the surprise of Mitt Romney in the debate. But the president’s claim that he said “act of terrorism” is taking revisionist history too far, given that he repeatedly refused to commit to that phrase when asked directly by reporters in the weeks after the attack. He appears to have gone out of his way to avoid saying it was a terrorist attack, so he has little standing to make that claim now. Indeed, the initial unedited talking points did not call it an act of terrorism. Instead of pretending the right words were uttered, it would be far better to acknowledge that he was echoing what the intelligence community believed at the time--and that the administration’s phrasing could have been clearer and more forthright from the start. Four Pinocchios FUCK YOU, PRAVDA ON THE POTOMAC! Suddenly they start trying to revise history...sigh. I think we can begin to dispense with delusions that any of this is coordinated by the WH.

That got me to thinking that this explosion of scandals is a no-holds-barred democrat civil war between the Clintons' DLC wing and Obama's hardcore anti-Americans.

But what is the percentage for either party?  Hillary looks really bad right now, so the ice cracking on Benghazi doesn't help her.  In any case, Barry can't run again, so what does he care if she's next up?  Also, even if she is sacrificed as the designated scapegoat, there is no way Barry isn't splattered in the process.

Could this be a diversion to distract from the IRS and other scandals?  It seems unlikely, since there is now a sense of building wave.  There are just to many scandals.  The press can bury serial scandals, but will find it much harder when they are in parallel.

I don't think what's happening now will help any Dem, and certainly not Hillary or Barry.  No, this is just a happy development.  Or perhaps karma.

260 BTW, I don't care if a cure for AIDS is EVER found, can we please just focus on preventing/curing cancer? I had breast cancer in 2002. I had lump in 1995 and had it removed. it was noting. I had same lump reappear in 2002 and I had no feeling for it. I knew it was nothing. A few weeks later I had new lump in upper left breast. I had feeling it was bad. I went to dr and my regular doctor wasn't in. Bitch yelled at me for not having mammograms. They sent me for mammogram and ultrasound. Nothing showed on mammogram. Chief of breast imaging at hospital assured me that my lumps were nothing. I was pissed that I had to wait three hours to see him and bullied doctor to do a biopsy. By then it was near closing time and he told me he would do it if he could get someone to stay to help with ultrasound. Though he assured me it was nothing to worry about. I was right. The one that I had before was nothing and the newest one was cancer. If I listened to doctor I would be dead because it was a fast grower. I have annual MRI, they show more than mammograms. I have dense ones, not sure what that means but it shows cancer that mammograms and ultrasounds do not. Yes, let's focus on cure for cancer. More people get that for no apparent reason. Last year was first time that they changed protocol and I was tested for gene. I was tested and do not have it. If I did I would have had ovaries removed because I don't need them now. I wouldn't have breast removed unless I had cancer in it. Reconstructive surgery is option if you have to have it removed. I had lumpectomy in 2002.

The only run-in with the IRS I have had was caused by them.  Our son had a job during high school.  I looked into how to handle it for taxes and decided to claim him on my return and pay him what he would lose off his refund (about $75).  I made sure I carefully checked every box on both returns so there would be no confusion.  When he got his refund, there was a nice note in it from the IRS stating that he had forgotten to claim himself as a dependent, so they fixed it for him and here's another $75!  You're welcome!  Naturally, I then got a letter in the mail stating that I had attempted to claim a SSN on my return that had already been claimed on another return.  I was required to go to the IRS office to fix things (about 45 minutes away).  I called an agent and explained the situation and offered to fax the original returns and the letter.  I was told that, since this was clearly my fault, I needed to come in and see them.

I imagine they're still waiting for me to arrive 12 years later to pay them their $75.

300 I went to the bakery yesterday to buy my favorite pastry. They are white cakes with chocolate frosting, coconut and nuts and are the best. They call them icicles here. When I was a kid one local bakery would occasionally make them with chocolate cake. I am going to have two for breakfast! I didn't eat them yesterday because I was exhausted from working outside all day and freezing while doing so. Cake is a good way to start the day! I wish they were chocolate. I will ask baker to use chocolate cake one day. I live near Boston, four bakeries that I know of have these in the local bakery. This one bakery makes the best ones because the baker puts chocolate sauce in the icing. Have a great day! Carol

'If John Boehner Were A Woman, People Would Call Him 'The Weakest Speaker In History' ---- House Republican members are defying Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and five committee chairmen by endorsing a measure that would set up a special panel to investigate the deadly attacks in Benghazi, Libya. A growing number of members on the committees with jurisdiction over the Benghazi matter — Intelligence, Judiciary, Oversight and Government Reform, Armed Services and Foreign Affairs — have signed onto Rep. Frank Wolf’s (R-Va.) resolution. Boehner and the chairmen of those committees do not support the legislation. He's not a leader but he's been put in a leadership position. He's probably a good guy and votes the way I want him to most of the time but he's not a leader.  Lots of good people aren't good leaders.  It's not easy.  You have to have an overriding idea of how things should be and a good strategy for getting it done.  Sometimes good leaders aren't nice people because they might have to make people do things they don't want to do and may have to play hardball with them.  But they get things done.

I think her mom died from ovarian cancer.  Nonetheless, I do have a neighbor who was only in her 30s at the time and does have the breast cancer gene.  She got cancer and had to ultimately have a double mastectomy.  In her 30s.  She has since had it reoccur once.  So, I can't find fault w/ Jolie's decision.  It's a scary situation.

356 Occam's razor suggests this is really what it appears to be: A bunch of retards fucked up, and the number and severity of those fuckups just hit critical mass. The headscratcher is why the MFM is not closing ranks on this. They've proven both willing and able for at least my entire lifetime. I don't see how the severity of the fuckups is the problem. The hallmark of democrat foreign policy since Johnson left office has been siding with this country's enemies to gain domestic political advantage. Perhaps the democrat party has demonized the GOP to the point where the GOP is despicable enough in democrat minds for the democrat factions to use against one another. Moral inversion is as moral inversion does.

1) Dramatic suicide    following a lengthy soliloquoy in which I compare both "heroines" to those fake toy poodles that guy bought in Venezuela that turned out to be    'roided up ferrets; or

457 Of course the problem with Obama having an epic meltdown live is that station would cut away or edit it for later use. and of course the bigger problem is what happens after the malignant narcissist has a meltdown. Even now the administration is leaving no stone unturned in its search for a fall guy. Soothsayer,

I heard about local attorney dying.  My brother prints obits for people I know.  I downloaded local paper for I believe your City.  The paper is almost 50% of coverage on him.  I have known him since 1991.  He was a great man.  I used to call him for every silly legal question I had.

I paid him once for legal service and another for something he couldn't help me with but told me his  partner is better for that kind of thing.

I loved Richie and after reading the paper everyone did.

Come a little closer so I can punch you in the throat.

By the way, my mother had a 10 year battle with breast cancer before she passed away. Her treatment was not made part of a press release.

Every thing Jolie has ever done - from wearing a vial of blood - to making out with her brother - to her Tats - to going a year without sex - to stealing Brad Pitt away... was done for 'look at me' publicity. Tell me with a straight face that publicity was never a factor in her thinking.

498 On the Angelina thing:  if she didn't have a total hysterectomy as well as the double mastectomy, she wasn't that concerned about the cancer potential.

Ovarian cancer is a deadly silent killer and generally gets to stage 4 before its even detected.    That is my understanding from when I was tested for BRCA I and II.

My guess is she wanted poofy boobs.

Soothsayer, I wouldn't have known except my brother printed the obit.  I don't local politicians either.

There are four houses on Ferry Street that have political signs all the time.  Local election is being held on a Saturday to ask us if we approve of Wynn Casino.  The only reason I know is because date is on signs.

They should have added question to residents when we vote for Kerry's replacement, not the Saturday before.

Now I really have to go.  I get addicted here.  I have said three times I have to go.

Here is my prediction for her publicity campaign: she shows up flat chested on some talk shows and red carpet events then after a year or so she gets implants that look like twin Hindenburgs. After another year those are  set on fire in a tragic accident in New Jersey while an announcer says: "Oh the humanity...".
