Today's scandal prediction: the press begins aggressively moving into "nothing to see here, move along" mode.

Update: The Internet was abuzz last night with CA Rep. Devin Nunes' accusation that the DOJ "essentially wiretapped the House of Representatives cloak room".

But if you pay close attention, he explains that "... when they went after the AP reporters, right? Went after all of their phone records, they went after the phone records, including right up here in the House Gallery, right up from where IÂ’m sitting right now."

This has been known since the story broke.

The records obtained by the Justice Department listed outgoing calls for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, for general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and for the main number for the AP in the House of Representatives press gallery, according to attorneys for the AP.

As you might imagine, the cloak room and the press gallery are two different things.

I hope we haven't reached the point of Scandalpalooza where people on our side try to gild the lily and in doing so toss the left a shiny object that they can focus on instead of the real abuses of power of their boyfriend's administration.

9 Today's scandal prediction: the press begins aggressively moving into "nothing to see here, move along" mode. Yep. The IRS guy who was going to resign anyway resigned. Benghazi, the IRS, and AP wiretap are no longer issues. The media will take a deep breath and say, "hey, we covered the president's scandals." Oh, and apparently the DoJ bugged the House cloak room. All that's missing from the Soviet model is death camps and midnight arrests.

Hello, everyone.   HereÂ’s a story from The Wizard of Oz.  ItÂ’s been dismissed over the years as a publicity hoax by L. Frank BaumÂ’s biographer Michael Patrick Hearn as well as by Margaret Hamilton and members of the Baum family but itÂ’s so sweet, it deserves retelling:

The great MGM character actor Frank Morgan had been signed to play both the titular Wizard as well as Professor Marvel, the humbug traveling showman.  Morgan needed an elegant but somewhat seedy coat for his part, so the studioÂ’s wardrobe department bought up a rack of coats from a second-hand clothing store in LA.  The actor made his way through the pile, finally picking out a black broadcloth Prince Albert frock coat with a beautiful (but frayed) velvet collar.  He tried it on, and to his delight, it fit like a glove.

It wasnÂ’t until filming began, however, that Morgan one day happened to turn out one of the coatÂ’s pockets.  Inside was written, L. Frank Baum.

Everyone was amazed, and Louis B. Mayer was notified.  Immediately, he had MGM take the coat, examine it, photograph it, and wire the tailor in Chicago who had originally made it.  Back came a notarized letter; yes, they had made the coat and had made it for Baum.

The studio then took the coat to BaumÂ’s widow.  Yes, she said in astonishment - it was her husbandÂ’s.

The coat became the most carefully guarded piece of costuming on the Oz set, and when filming was wrapped, Morgan, on behalf of MGM, solemnly presented the coat to Mrs. Baum.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Normally do not watch Jon Stewart but since he has been highlighting the crimes of the administration thought I would watch last night.  He talked a few minutes about the crimes and then set out to attack Rumsfield and Cheney for commenting on the crimes.  Spent most of his monologue criticizing them for speaking up.  The real take away for me was that the lefties just hate it when we conservatives are right.  It's never about facts, they simply hate us and any narrative that supports our claims are easily dismissed by the commies.

The vote was 56-41, largely along party lines. Three Republicans, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, joined Democrats in voting for confirmation.

29 Morning all!

Da thrill is gone....for now.

President Obama "obviously likes giving speeches more than he does running the executive branch," Chris Matthews said tonight.

Yes, you read that right: The MSNBC host who in 2008 felt a "thrill going up my leg" after hearing Obama speak has grown disenchanted. Tonight's episode of Hardball saw Matthews delivering a rare, unforgiving grilling of the president as severe as anything that might appear on Fox News.

"What part of the presidency does Obama like? He doesn't like dealing with other politicians -- that means his own cabinet, that means members of the congress, either party. He doesn't particularly like the press.... He likes to write the speeches, likes to rewrite what Favreau and the others wrote for the first draft," Matthews said.

31 One agency neither political party should ever fuck with and allow to get dragged through the mud is the IRS. It depends exclusively on 'voluntary compliance'* because its no secret to anyone that if that compliance ever disappeared the government would collapse. There aren't enough law enforcement people in this country to go door to door collecting from one-hundred-fifty-million people. * Well 'voluntary compliance' plus the threat of seizure, forfeiture, incarceration, etc.

As for the death camps, I think you might wanna think about a couple hundred Mexican citizens (and one or two Border Patrol agents) who, thanks to Choom Boy, prematurely departed this world.

42 I,  on the other hand,  think that the media is still going after these scandals.

The reason I think this is that I am positive there is something really bad about Benghazi,  yet to be revealed. I believe several people in Washington know about it,  and word is getting around.

There is little harm in haveing a bad manager as a progressive president.  The line of "he was young and inexperienced" can be used without tarnishing the overall direction of the progressive cause.

However, "The president we nominated and elected is a coward who refused to rescue his own ambassador and left him to die while going to a Vegas money-raiser" is a wee bit more damaging.

62 So even though the irs bias has been out in the open and blisteringly obvious, it has taken years and hundreds of violations before people put the pieces together to say it was political. I mean, they were responsible for regulating political entities (401(c)'s) so it was pretty easy to see what they were doing. The defense now seems to be that it was only low level guys. I think it is bull, but i also think that the low level guys love big gov. and maybe did not need to be told (they did however need someone to look away and not tell them to stop.) But if it was spontaneous, multiple, rogue, low level employees,... cripes, that is even worse. That means that if you go to the DM-fucking-V and don't drive a prius, the grunt behind the glass may send your paperwork to the circular file just to make your life a little rougher. SO my question is: how much political abuse of power is going on at the other agencies. DOJ? FDA? EPA? where it is harder to see the bias and collate it. We have all heard the anecdotal stories but has anyone done a study? Is a study even possible? Makes you think we need to drown the fucker in a bathtub -- oh wait, i forgot. I'm sure grover will get on that as soon as he is done helping to create 20M new big governement voters.

Just cause they criticized something Obama did one fucking day doesn't mean they won't jump right back on his cock as soon as they can....and it certainly doesn't make your criticism of him more valid when they agree with it. "

Because, unless people on the left validate the transgression by agreeing with right, it didn't happen.  All the complaining is just a bunch of partisan babbling.

The same holds true when those on the right validate something the left is trying to etch in stone.  It's just trash talk until someone inside starts agreeing.

82 What we are seeing with the current series of scandals is, at its hears, a recreation, in a way, of the ancient Roman battle between plebs and patricians, with Progressives--in control of academia, public education, entertainment, "news", and (often) government at pretty much most levels outside those purely elective--being the patricians. The elite class.

At one point the plebs staged what amounted to a sit-down strike, or a secession, until some changes were made. That is what needs to happen, because it is not just the IRS that has a animus problem--not bias, but animus.

Mitt Romney is building a new home in the Walker Lane area of Holladay Utah and plans to live nearby while the house is being built, a source told the Deseret News Wednesday.

The two-time GOP presidential candidate and Massachusetts governor plans to split his time "pretty evenly" between Salt Lake City and his homes in La Jolla, Calif., near San Diego and a lakeside resort community in New Hampshire, the source said. He will also spend time in his Boston apartment, located at his son Tagg's home there.

The Citizens United case was decided Jan 21, 2010.

According to wiki:

On Jan 21, 2010, hours after the ruling was announced, President Barack Obama stated that the decision "gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington Â— while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates".   On Jan 23, 2010 Obama elaborated in his weekly radio address saying, "this ruling strikes at our democracy itself" and "I can't think of anything more devastating to the public interest".  On January 27, 2010, Obama further condemned the decision during the 2010 State of the Union Address, stating that, "Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law  to open the floodgates for special interests Â— including foreign corporations Â— to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities."

On Feb 25, 2010 an email sent to IRS, redacted by IG in their report, that appears to have directed the IRS scrutiny.

Who sent the email, and what did it say

Yes, we discuss the inordinate influence of the media on the LiV (and it does have a carpet bombing 24/7 aspect), but any contrary information might just wake someone up.  If the libs weren't concerned about this fact they would not have tried this IRS ploy. Exactly.  I'll give you an example.  For many, many years, the state's education system had a student management system where all student data was entered and stored centrally.  Still, every so often, we had to generate a report, stick it in an envelope, and mail it to the state.  The state had access to the same system, but we had to mail them info.  My former boss said that there must have been someone in power whose mother worked in an office opening the envelopes and forwarding the reports, so we had to keep doing it that way.  If we stopped, she would lose her job.  Finally a couple of years ago, she must have retired.  We now just have to verify the data is correct, and they pull their own reports.

On Feb 11 2010, Chuck Schumer introduced legislation to undermine the Citizens United ruling.

Senator Charles E. Schumer spoke of the legislation Thursday.

The legislation’s sponsors, Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York and Representative Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, said they wanted the measure enacted in time to limit the impact of the court’s decision in the case, Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission, before the fall campaigns. “Otherwise the court will have predetermined the winner of the midterm elections,” Mr. Schumer said.

235 We've been audited about five times. Last one the accountant said was just plain absurd. Never anything wrong, but cost us plenty to comply.

Never hire a CPA directly; have your corporate attorney hire and direct the CPA. That means everything the CPA does is covered by the lawyer-client privilege, and the IRS can't force the CPA to do its job for them. CPA means Certified PUBLIC Accountant. By doing the above you turn him into a Certified PRIVATE Accountant.

Also for private tax returns: never file electronically. The IRS is running out of people who can handle a manual tax return - always gum up the works by filing a paper return.

=======

You have to parse the "DC Speak" to get at what she's saying.  The U.S. Intelligence Community comprises 17 different agencies, of which the State Department is one.  ( http://1.usa.gov/a5GHk3 ) When Her Thighness says the points were an "intelligence product" she means that they were produced by the Community- in this case with very active participation by her own agency.  She uses the term "intelligence" to misdirect the average listener into thinking that the points were produced exclusively by CIA.  And she hides behind that misdirection.

What really frosts me about the whole "talking points process" is that if these assholes had put one TENTH the effort into organizing a response to the incident that they put into covering their butts afterwards the whole thing would probably never have happened and those four men would still be alive today.

243 At presser, will anyone ask President how his chief counsel can know about IRS scandal and IG investigation for weeks and President only learns "last Friday" from the press? As CiC, how can he not know about Petraeus investigation? As Chief Executive, how can he not know about AP wire taps if, as AG says, this is one of most serious intelligence breaches he has ever heard of? After 8 months, why do the American people still have no accounting of the President's actions the evening of the Benghazi attack? In retrospect, does he take any personal responsibility for not attending briefings?

244 I think the Congressman was trying to say, "Hey, they tapped the press gallery phones, and sometimes we talk to them using phones in the cloakroom." The main press gallery and the cloakrooms are one floor apart and members go up to the press gallery to talk to reporters all the time, but if they're busy they can just call the gallery from the cloakroom. So if the gallery phones were tapped, it makes sense that members are concerned their conversations may have been overheard.

WeÂ’re enough OT for me to give you a couple of oilfield practical joke stories.  It is common to jack with the new guys and there are some classics like sending them for a left-handed pipe wrench.  These are a little better.  Remember that the Daddy has told the son, “If they say ‘Frog!Â’, you jump.”

The Moonpool is a big hole in the middle of a drillship where we lower the heavy shit to the ocean floor.  ItÂ’s maybe 30 feet across and connects to the ocean of course.  Someone told the new guy that the water level in the moonpool looked a little low and he should get a hose and top it off.  So he starts a seawater hose running into it.  I came by a couple of hours later and asked him howÂ’s it going?  He said, “Well, IÂ’ve been watching that bolt over there on the other side and itÂ’s starting to get there.”

My son has a video of the best one I know of.  He was on a big dive support vessel with their Remotely Operated Vehicle, or ROV.  It is the little unmanned submarine we use in deepwater operations.  The pilots often have little or nothing to do while waiting on someone else to finish, so they decided to jack with the two newbies.  The senior pilot says, “We need to calibrate the ROV while we have the time.  So you guys to put some aluminum foil on your legs and stand at the stern while I get a reading.”

Intercom:  “Okay, IÂ’m not getting a good signal.  Put some on your arms too.”  They comply.  Â“Okay thatÂ’s better.”  Â“Stand on one leg”.  Â“Now hold both arms up in a V.”   Â“Okay, drop the right arm down by your side.  Good.”

“Now, put your left foot in.  Good.”  “Put your left foot out.  Good.”  “Put your left foot in.  Okay, shake it all about.”

1.  As Lizzy said,  intimidation of press and whistle blowers.
2.  A fishing expedition on information unrelated to the leak, but which would be uncovered while pretending to look for the leak.

I would like to know when these records were obtained.  That might give us a clue as to what issue they were worried about.

304 Disarming us now. Knew the commie JEF would do this after the election. Thank you 52%. Hope you are the first tofry during a nuclear attack. http://tiny.cc/ioh6ww

The good news is that all of the juicy targets for enemy nukes are Blue cities, so they will indeed be the ones to fry. Funny how liberals never think about things like that.

305 298 An Observation

I don't care about Benghazi. Obama got away with it and made republicans look like fools. As the great Hillary said "What difference does it make? "

We won, you lost and that is all that counts!

306 Obama's regime using Stalinist tactics, Trolls applaud. They just want to beat us-- they don't care what they have to ally themselves with to do it. Their hate for us is their only value.

You got it. This is payback for all the times republicans bullied us. Obama is our Scipio and has beaten every Hannibal you have thrown at us.

Posted by: Stop lying at May 16, 2013 09:32 AM (SFpLR) Uh, dipshit? You're essentially proud of turning the greatest country the world has ever seen into a non-functioning dystopian police state. Fascism never stays soft for long. Had you an ounce of history in your educational background, your tiny little ball-sack would be crawling up inside the farthest reaches of your vagina about now. As it is, the thought of the pavement that is rapidly rushing up to greet your face, unbeknownst to you - warms me to the bottom of my heart. "Eat, drink, be merry..." you dumb little motherfucker. Mostly, enjoy the surprise and the endless hot weather. There is no 'may' about it.

313 "It must have really galled him to sit up there like a witless dumbass yesterday and infuriate even the donks who'd love to pull his chiness scrotum face out of the fire. He's always very touchy about not getting enough respect because he's an affirmative action hire and is extremely insecure about that." Tavis Smiley?

316 Gee Andy,  I didn't take the "cloak room" part literally.   It's allusion to a subpoena that apparently included broad benefits to catch and punish/hold in line a separate branch of government.

Hillary aide Neuland:

"...when we arenÂ’t doing that ourselves until we have investigation resultsÂ… and the penultimate point could be abused by Members to beat the State Department for not paying attention to Agency warnings so why do we want to feed that either? "

Not absolutely sure but it sounds as though she is using the word "penultimate" in the often-misused sense meaning "beyond ultimate", instead of "next to final".
