Happy Monday.

Christian Heinze continues to do good work dissecting the 2012 election. He's right that there are a lot of folks who don't want to talk about these numbers.

The Keynesians have been loudly proclaiming victory in their endless war against what they sneeringly refer to as "austerians." But, not so fast, says Jim Pethokoukis, who inconveniently notes that, despite "suffering" from more austerity than Europe, the U.S. is nevertheless better off.

Tim Carney writes that the message Obama's White House sends is pretty clearly reprehensible: "watch what you say about Obama's White House." My own weekend thoughts on the White House's scandal behavior, ICYMI, are here.

The union for DHS' U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services employees is publicly opposing the Senate's immigration bill. "Insurmountable bureaucracy," says the union.

Star Trek led the box office this weekend, but not by as much as some folks had hoped. I saw it Saturday and liked it a lot more than 2009's reboot. MOVIE SPOILERS AT THE NEXT LINK: Buzzfeed does some original reporting involving (no, really: spoilers)10 TV-series Star Trek references in the movie (/spoilers). As I said on Twitter, this film felt a lot more like the Star Trek that I grew up with than the too-chaotic and too-convenient reboot.

5 In case you missed it yesterday on the talk shows, one of the Crapweasel in ChiefÂ’s top advisors got in our faces yesterday on all the Obama scandals.  He said they would not cooperate in any investigations and the law was irrelevant.  IOW King Barky will not be defied regardless of the law.  He spits on your law.  If we had an honest congress the articles of impeachment would be voted on today.  But since we donÂ’t, and the asshole knows he can get away with being a dictator, he will continue his lawless behavior.  After all, he did it for the first 4 years and was reelected.  The FSA just doesnÂ’t give a shit and Republicans in congress have no balls.

23 More voter fraud in MD.  There are 13,000 people still on the voting rolls of DC who have moved to MD.  Remember Motor Voter in which Republican compromised to pass the bill.  Voting rolls were supposed to be purged every 4 years.  That has never happened.  This is exactly what happened with the last amnesty round.  Republicans must demand an automatic sunset clause in the event their end of the deal is not upheld.  Or better yet, quit with these stupid compromises that are not compromises to begin with.

Hello, 'rons and 'ronettes.  I hope you all had a great weekend.

The other day I picked up a copy of Pieces of Time: Peter Bogdanovich On the Movies.  It's a 1973 collection of essays he wrote about directors, actors and movies, and I expect I'll be quoting from it from time to time.

To start with, here's the legendary Billy Wilder, who told Bogdanovich he doesn't like to watch his old movies:  "I want to climb up there and change everything.  It's like meeting a girl you slept with fifteen years ago.  You look at her and you think, ‘My God, did I go to bed with that?Â’"

Another story concerns Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Alfred Hitchcock, during the filming of Notorious.  One morning they were shooting a scene which, Grant described, was very difficult because Bergman had to say her lines in such a way that Grant could imitate them.  And so shooting began, but Bergman simply couldn't get her reading right - "She was in some sort of daze," Grant later said.  "She just wasn't there."  But all the while, take after take, Hitch sat in his director's chair, smoking a cigar, not saying a word.

Finally, around 11 o'clock, Grant began to see a spark in Bergman's eyes.  For the first time that morning, the lines were coming out right.  And just then Hitchcock said, "Cut."

What on earth is he stopping for now? Grant wondered, looking at the director in disbelief.

Hitchcock straightened up in his chair, looked at Bergman and said quietly, Good morning, Ingrid."

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

38 So should we still pay our "protection money" to this criminal organization? What impact would a complete tax strike have on the investigations? I was looking for cartoon-eyed college doobies to come up my driveway in their "Obama's Army" t-shirts, telling me about the new hope and change, when really the citizen action force that FROTUS was talking about was the IRS all along. Well, a black man needs all the help he can get. Move along.

Vic, why should there be articles of impeachment? Have you read (or heard) of anyone calling for that? I sure as hell haven't. The liberal fatcats are having a field day with things as they are, and so are those we might think would want to see Choom Boy brought to justice

Too many alleged "conservatives" are too afraid the liberals won't invite them to any more cocktail parties, will think they're being racist or just plain unfriendly if they rock the Chicago Jesus's boat.

No member of Congress is willing to hold President Historic First© -- the man who absolutely would not have his job (or any other) if he wasn't black -- accountable, and neither are the legions of eunuchs, phonies and cowards who gabble endlessly about politics.

It isn't just Bark Obama and his co-conspirators in D.C. who need to be driven in disgrace from office. The tea-sipping, nose-in-the-air yuppies supposedly on "our side" need to go, too.

52 I really dont think you guys are negative enough. Tyranny doesn't happen in a vacuum. Pinochet for example didn't brutalize his country by himself, he was aided and abetted by the majority of his nation for most of the time. Your friends, your neighbors, people you know, some of them are perfectly fine with you being targeted by the IRS and other government agencies. Oh I'm sure some of them will offer weak excuses and "but Bush ____", but what it boils down to is that a large portion of our nation is ok with this. They demonized the tea party, and then they used the power of the government to persecute them. I really don't see what peacefully protesting is going to gain these people anymore.

Drudge has a link to a Daily Mail story about street protests in Georgia (the country, not the state) between gay rights activists and Orthodox Christians. The real story isn't about 'gay' this and 'Orthodox Christians' that. It's about who will rule the country.

Same thing here. This isn't about Atheists, or Gideon Bibles, it is about who will rule. The window dressing, the camouflage is merely the lever that moves the mob into the street, into battle.

Useless to impeach without conviction,  as we saw with Billy Jeff.  We have a fair amount of the population who just doesn't care,  and a very large group that will defend Obama no matter what.

I don't know the answer,  but I do know that there  are a lot of scared people in DC,  on both sides of the fence.   I think right now they don't know what to do.

79 71 Any Morons getting into IRS protest tomorrow? Posted by: CT Moron XIV at May 20, 2013 07:31 AM (9sjmH) I really mean this as a serious question, what is the point of the tea party people peacefully protesting? They tried that and the government targeted them for persecution, the media smeared them as evil, and the dominant political party in the country helped both of those things. I really want to know what recourse they are leaving these people cause the whole peaceful protest thing is kinda built on not being targeted by your government for doing it last time I checked.

80 A prime example of why Obama is getting away with all this criminal activity is Fast and Furious.  Issa started hearings on this in 2011.  Holder committed CRIMES including clear cut perjury.

Not a single charge has been filed.  Even the contempt charge by Issa because he refused to turn over documents was not a criminal contempt charge. it was civil and it is going nowhere fast (and furiously).

83 #78  Well,  sven,  the thing is that I don't know what they know.  I do know that you have to have evidence to do anything,  and right now they are in the  collecting evidence part of this.  Watergate went on for almost 3 years.

The steady drip, drip, drip of evidence and revelations (and no doubt other scandals) will wear away at his popularity,  along with the implementation of his disastrous health care plan.

The unusual number of retiring dem senators is one hopeful sign.

I don't know.  I just dislike the constant attacks on the GOP in the  House when they have at least done SOMETHING.  A year ago I wouldn't have thought we would be in this position, but then a year ago I thought we would win the election.

Movies are now like the music industrial complex.  If you're paying attention to the mainstream, you're  being fed pablum, and are probably missing all the good stuff that is being produced independently, well outside the mainstream.

101 Once there were two major schools of thought about Jesus. One held with what Jesus taught, that the gospel is, men are the sons of God and we should love one another. The other taught Paul's theory about Jesus' blood sacrifice, virgin birth, many other ideas. Given a free market, things would have worked out eventually. It might have ended up with cheaper VHS instead of the superior Betamax but it would have shaken out. But a politician got involved. He demanded compromise. You cannot compromise silk and steel. However, the Bishops knew they could not get out without a single creed. The Council of Nicea, the reason Christianity became the Czechoslovakia of religions.

108 One real problem with impeaching the president is the possibility of black backlash and riots - since, regardless of the actual reasons, most blacks would see the impeachment as racially motivated.

I do have a suggestion for this problem; half - impeachment. It would work like this: we only impeach Obama's white ass - not his black ass. The senate could find him "not innocent" and require him to keep his white ass out of the White House at all times. Of course we would wind up with a half assed president - but then - we already have that.

Morning everyone.  Traffic was a bitch.  Except for the two black unmarked Suburbans with emergency lights on which sped past the bumper-to-bumper cars.  Probably Chuck Hagel late for his haircut appointment.

Inre the lack of originality in Hollywood...Red Letter Media made a good point in one of the reviews that with the globalization of movies, Hollywood has chosen to stick with established brands instead of creating new ones.  So what if Star Trek doesn't actually have much of any Star Trekking, or Iron Man doesn't really show the guy in the suit all that often - it has the brand attached so people will go see it.

It's going to get even dumber now that Disney is going all-in with the Star Wars brand and releasing what will amount to TV shows as movies every year.  Cheap to produce, shoddy plots, but oh so lucrative.

I guess the above is what I'm supposed to say, great job House! Sooner or later this will erupt in bloodshed the Democrats keep inching coser and closer to real overt persecution. One day the Democrat will hop in the pool and will find they like the water just fine. You really don't believe "Mr. 25 Million Ayers" do you? I'm responsible for George Bush's "crimes" to this day. Admiral Marcus could just as easily has been a person who speaks hippie and still does nefarious things. Would have been a more interesting and topical character would it not? Speaking of platitudes of hope and change of exploration while being every bit the soulless bastard he was fighting. Instead we get a cartoon roll up of Bush and Rumsfeld for the kajillionth time. Hollywood is in the busines of making the right uncomfy not the left. Theright is under attack 24/7/365 even when we're "good." I am slowly getting to look forward to our trying out "being bad." How many ten of thousands of Federal manhours went into attacking the Tea Party's civil liberties that could have been aimed at Tflashbang and Tspeedbump? Giggles and the donks work for the other side. Hell I am getting to the point I aim to treat them with the same "loyalty" they treat us with. Problem is "the nice guy GOP" will give away the Republic before a counter triad can be built for the Team Jackass Media/Education/Legal bomb. Otherwise, Congress is setting precedence, making "social justice" the official policy of every branch in government, TOP DOWN. Only white Presidents of the United States ever get charged with their own crimes while in office. And from now on, NO POTUS will ever face impeachment, no matter the treason and authoritarian dictatorship "administered" -- regardless of intentions, regardless of who benefits at whose expense, regardless of the assertion that hopenchangen actually conquered faith in our American Constitutional Government. As the Catholics (Irish at least) say, "Give it up to God," Americans must now give it up to Obama? 140 I understand about everyone screaming for articles of impeachment, but we are still miles from that.  You have to remember it took 2 years from the time the Watergate burglary was discovered to Nixon's resignation.  Even then, it took a Nixon staffer breaking ranks and ratting everyone out AND the release of Nixon's tapes before they had a smoking gun.  Right now, we all believe we know what really happened, but there's no hard evidence.  They had Clinton dead-to-rights over lying to a grand jury and he still skated.  Unless someone with inside knowledge decides to step up, impeachment will go nowhere and be portrayed as a Republican vendetta.  This isn't about being feckless; this is about being realistic.

Kenneth Palinkas, [president of the National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council union], says that while illegal immigrants applying for legal status under DACA are required to pay a fee, DHS and USCIC have been waiving these fees, something he expects to continue if the Senate immigration bill becomes law. He adds that taxpayers are currently “absorbing the cost of over $200 million worth of fee waivers bestowed on applicants for naturalization during the last fiscal year.”

This^^^^^ Its more than a possibility. I'm one of 2 white guys in a shop of 8. They adore this President. He can do no wrong. Anything negative said about Obama is RAAACCCIIISTTTT!!!! Goddammit, that really grinds my gears.  Avoid prosecuting the president for high crimes and misdemeanors because a portion of the population is too fucking stupid to understand the Constitutional stakes and who, were there a God in heaven, would have been stripped of their wholly unearned right to vote years ago?

Re: Impeachment

So in the wildly unlikely scenario that Obama gets impeached, Biden -- remember him? -- steps in and nothing changes.

At least in the 70s, the Dems forced out Agnew first, then went after Nixon.  So the Presidency would have gone to the Democratic Speaker of the House.

Mmm.  Probably.  Anyway, the grapeshot is what I would do.  Were it to come to impeachment and riots, I suspect it would go down like the LA riots - the police pulling back to let the rioters trash their own neighborhoods and any deadly force would be laid down by those with their own weapons.  Looting, burning and death for anyone unwise enough to be caught in the war zone.

As I've noted before, I'm a nihilst anyway.  Obama will skate, Leviathan will grow and the Thought Police will flourish.  Unless civil war breaks out.  It will be either stalemate totalitarianism or secession.

So you think California Republicans are in bad shape now?  Just wait:

Millions of Californians who contact the state's new health exchange to buy insurance will be given the opportunity to register to vote, a move that some Republicans fear could benefit Democrats.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen made California the first state to designate its health exchange as a voter registration agency Wednesday but others are expected to follow suit, said Shannan Velayas, Bowen's spokeswoman.

California's health-care exchange, Covered California, is creating a marketplace for millions of uninsured Californians to compare prices and buy health insurance policies this fall to take effect Jan. 1.

Same thing with V for Vendetta, came out making Bush the Tyrant with the liberal leftist direct action types adopting the mask of V, but it's Obama who is the tyrant, and the Tea Party Patriots who are called anti-government 'terrorists'.

I was playing yesterday and had gone on an early game conquering spree that resulted in having to drill research down to zero due to maintenance costs. I had several coastal cities and managed to finish the Colossus and the Great Lighthouse back to back so that got enough money coming in that I could finally kick up research a bit to finish code of laws so that I could build courthouses. Once that happened, I went from being effectively bankrupt to raking in money in about ten turns.

"Mmm. Probably."

Used to be that broaching the Race Question or the Creed Question would get you and immediate IP ban in these parts.

It will be interesting to see whether we're seeing a thaw as regards the Race Question.

But it'll be a cold day in Hades before we can speak honestly about Creed.

"Unless civil war breaks out. It will be either stalemate totalitarianism or secession."

Talk of secession is starting to become mainstream.

Mark Steyn spoke of it the other day.

So did Heartiste.

And VDH is getting to be downright Orwellian in his pessimism.

It's still forbidden at iSteve, however.

215 Regarding 'Into Darkness,' I'm not a Trekkie by any stretch of the imagination. Heck, haven't seen most of the movies let alone the TV series. And I doubt I'll ever watch one again. Seriously, they are going to tie Ehura into TFG??? Great, he was President. Woo hoo, she is part of his bloodline. What does that have to do with the movie???

219 So far, this summer's two block busters have delivered an Ironman with out very much ... you know ... actual Ironman

Same problem the last Batman movie had-- No Batman through the whole middle for the movie.

I jokingly referred to it as Bruce Wayne Rises ... but these movies are pared down to the simplest concept and stronger for it.  Taking a page from Casino Royale.

Oh, no, those entertainers are great for morale, use'm all the time. Conquer a city, do an entertainment special for the troops, instant pacification and massive cultural influence boost. Everybody loves a good concert.

222 #164  And they'll still vote for black candidates.  All the truth telling in the world won't undo the liberal dependency state now in place.  You are an idiot for thinking otherwise:  "Oh, black people, you've been lied to by your black and white liberal leaders for years--but have no fear, we are here to tell you the truth."  Perfect appraoch-from a chump and an idiot.

223 The last batman, by contrast wasn't that bad, yes the Dent law and the prison is evocative of Gitmo, but the banker dupe was a plausible way for Bane to seek his revenge, as Miranda Tate, is nonspecific enough to be a standin for a
Moslem sleeper agent, al Ghul is Middle Eastern. Freeman's remarks re Clean Energy are ironic in retrospect however.

And when it's proven, what then?  Nothing would change.  "The Tea Party deserved it, so fuck you," is all that we'd hear.

He wouldn't be impeached, censured or even berated by the press or the Dem voters.

225 For all the squandered efforts of legislators to fabricate new bills as if to make them famous at home for "having tried" to make "that" a law ("there oughta be a law" campaign platform promise) ... there's a complete lack of political organization given that the Republican Leadership completely misdirects! And it is the leadership's fault, their damned authoritarian neoconservative bipartisan shared values agenda, that Republicans appear too incapable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. Get off the self defense cry baby wagon, and assert constitutional governance as the cure-all to abusive authoritarian corruption in governance. As if specific Republican members of congress can't be assigned the research to enact Obama's impeachment, while other specific Republican legislators are assigned specific bills, all legislation confined to 50 pages or less. Simple, small bills rather than the "comprehensive reform" aka revisionism of American constitutional governance into authoritarianism. "A Grand Bargain!" shouts McCain, the grand inquisitor in the global hierarchy of the opposite game for suckers. What will taxpayers buy and vote to pass? Not more of anything! The surgically precise removal of tax funds for everything excepting the bare necessities of constitutional governance. CUT TAXES BY CUTTING SIZE OF GOVERNMENT AND REMOVING FOREIGN AID, the biggest hoax and most indecent offense to humanity ever. OF COURSE Republican rep.s and sen.s should be ALL ABOUT rescinding big gov budget, cutting off burdensome anti-constitutional federal bureaus, and constricting taxation only for constitutional measures -- border security, infrastructure of highways and power grid, and national defense ONLY defending US territory and citizens. Currently, our congress appropriates our taxes into their own pockets and their criminally organized friends' pockets via US foreign aid. That doesn't even address our finest men and women serving under oath in the US Military being completely abused by congress and our nation's leaders to protect organized crime globally rather than defend the US Constitution and Americans at home. We US taxpayers fund our US military to serve globalist corporations' "nation building" abroad, enriching THEIR wealth for no reason other than "because they could" get away with everything. It is most unfortunate that our military is abused to frequently decimate other countries' citizens, properties and financial infrastructure, not for the protection of the USA but to advance profits for global corporatists, the very few 1% elitists actually sharing memberships on those boards. Coming to such disillusionment, compounded by perpetual redeployment is asking more from our military personnel than is right to do. And it won't be long before "all volunteer" will hardly include American citizens; and the dreadful draft may even be reasserted. Latest figures of American volunteer applicants, only one in four is found to be eligible for military service. Too many are too illiterate to pass the written test; higher failure rate since Bush's "No Child Left Behind" federal abuse of public education, with the best of intentions, of course, and FOR THE CHILDREN. We allow our government to abuse us as well as the peoples around the world when we tell our elected Congress members to "let it go" because, for whatever "reason", federal abuses and corruption and utter fraud are no hills worth an attack, let alone worth the effort to destroy and remove from governance. Why imagine that it isn't worth the effort to get corruption off our backs? As if you'd knowingly leave malignant tumors to do their dirty work in your body without a complaint, without seeking help, to heal. Gangrene? It's not an illness worth fighting.

Multiple agencies targeting a TrueTheVote person?

This is big.

And not just because of the appearance of collusion, which will mean greater opportunity for a paper trail, and maybe even a RICO type investigation (could one be brought against the Fed? That would certainly fit my understanding of this administration... but the law and common sense do not always align so nicely).

More importantly, they've show their hand in a special way here. 1 Person, 1 Vote hurts them. They know it will hurt them. From dungeon dwelling denizen of <s> chief legal counsel </s> backwater offices right up to <s>frat houses</s> the highly professional D.C. offices, this is a game changing issue. More-so, it's an issue we can win, because 1 Person 1 Vote is a irreducible part of democracy (an that's what most people think we have, so roll with it). We need to push and push and push on this, through every avenue possible, and we need to stay clean of conspiracy-sounding stuff.

231 I figured out long ago that if I wanted to enjoy anything Hollywood puts out I will have to ignore the political slant. What better way to frustrate them? I literally don't give a shit if so and so is a send up of Rummy. Why should I give a shit what a bunch of Hollywood fags think about anything? Ignore the politics and enjoy the chases and explosions or quit bitching and seriously boycott the fuckers.

232 Were our taxes allocated stateside rather than to foreign entities, we could easily finance our own American infrastructure rebuilding AND our own US citizen former welfare programs, not burdened with amnesty for illegal aliens and with ObamaCare corporatist fraud at taxpayer expense with nothing good to show for all the corruption. And those who still call it too simplistic to first tend matters at home rather than continue exhausting all that we have abroad are too stupid and cowardly to identify the dictator as villain, even when they themselves are being evicted from constitutional governance at home. It's one thing to be told, "you can't see past your own nose." Quite another to find that you can't see. Period. Blinded by the hype. And too damned proud to admit when you've been wrong. Oh, sure. Rather than slay it, give the corrupt beast a trim around the ears. The better to hear you with. Great help.

233 Until the GOP gets new leadership, the Dims are virtually unopposed in their felonious mechanizations. The few in thecGOP who try to do the correct thing are very quickly marginalized and demonized. Or worse, like Rubio are co-opyed via a wedge issue. We as a people are well and truly boned. My goodness, the average LIV cares more about DWTS, Idol, and the antics of Lohan, Beyoncé, and Jody Arias than Benghazi, IRS, or any other government failings.

234 209 I really can't stand when a bunch of smug-ass Brits like Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy and a whole host of other assholes crank out some garbage like Love, Actually with a ridiculously transparent and lame swipe at Bush (played by Billy Bob Thornton). Basically the "film" is just an excuse for these swine to get together and pat each other on the back for being superior to the crass American cretins. Fuck. Them. Posted by: ghostofhallelujah at May 20, 2013 at 09:14 AM I always thought Billy Bob's character was a Bill Clinton clone. That's what made it funny to me. That they actually took a swipe at their precious BJ.

235 Glad to hear the spirit of the new Trek movie is closer to the original.  The casting of the 2009 movie was spot-on, but there were a lot of things about it that bothered me.  Most of all was that it seemed to have no meaning and make no statement, unlike the best of the TOS and TNG episodes.

I've firmly resisted reading any spoilers or detailed reviews, and will continue to avoid them until I can catch the film this week.

As for the title, imagine the Enterprise flashing through space to this music:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6te_t4n5NU
