Happy Wednesday.

You're going to have to give me some leeway this morning. All of Obama's scandals are starting to blur together and I can't tell what is new and what is just being repeated, perhaps with different emphasis. I think this is all new stuff, but the problem with Obama is that there have been so many iterations of his scandals that it's not inconceivable that I've simply missed some.

First, the New Yorker expands on the DOJ vs. FNC scandal, reporting that DOJ seized phone records for additional Fox News phone lines as well as two phone lines at the White House.

Second, Fox News is reporting that military sources in Benghazi are saying that they have been forbidden from going after the perpetrators of the 9/11/12 attack, even though they know who the perpetrators are and, generally, where they are located.

And, finally, with respect to the IRS scandal, other media sources are beginning to notice that the Administration's attempt to minimize -- "it was just a field office in Cincinnati" -- is false: direction for the scheme to harass conservatives came from Washington, D.C.

Liberals tittering about Oklahoma's senators having to ask their colleagues to pass a bill for federal assistance in recovering from the Moore tornado will be disappointed to discovering that no such bill is necessary.

And this is breaking news, so take it with a grain of salt, but an FBI agent has reportedly shot and killed a friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev in Florida.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Thanks for the morning briefing, Gabe and Vic.  WBZ news, at least as of 7.00 this morning, is noting that TzspeedbumpÂ’s friend was express mailed to his 72 virgins.

Here are a couple of short Humphrey Bogart stories:

Towards the end of his life, Bogie developed esophageal cancer.  In keeping with his tough guy image, he once laid the cause of his problems to his drinking: “I never should have switched from scotch to martinis.”

Very close to the end (January 14, 1957), many friends came along to say their goodbyes.  Bogart appreciated their kindness, but couldnÂ’t resist teasing them.  When one devoted companion came by, he and Bogie sat talking until the actor had a coughing fit, spitting up blood.  As the friend, uncomfortable, got up to leave, Bogart quipped, “WhatÂ’s the matter – canÂ’t you take it?”

And there it is.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

50 Everyone knows the story of the Goose that laid the golden eggs. For the bottomless desire of the Big Government types to spend money and hire more people the IRS is the goose. Well the taxpayers actually, but if that goose wasn't goosing us to pay we might not. Which is why I think the IRS scandal has the biggest ability to topple in domino effect on steroids a bunch of people. Even the Dems know better then to weaken the collection arm of their RICO organization.

45 years ago on May 22, 1968 the US Navy's nuclear attack submarine USS Scorpion ( SSN 589 ) sank approx 400 miles SW of the Azores. She was returning to her homeport in Norfolk, Va after a deployment to the Med. The last radio message sent by the Scorpion was on May 21, 1968.

The exact cause of her sinking is not known. Some possible causes were a flooding/fire casualty, battery well fire/explosion, a torpedo that exploded in the torpedo room. There are some that claim the Soviets sank her, but that theory has been debunked.

Recent sound analysis from the SOSUS records indicate the most probable cause was an explosion in the battery well, probably from a buildup of hydrogen gas. The explosion prevented the crew from maintaining depth control. She imploded at approx 1530 feet and lies at 10,000 feet in four major pieces.

99 crewmen died with the Scorpion. In keeping with Navy tradition she and her crew are considered "On Eternal Patrol."

80 Inre Watergtate comparisons and insider leaks: Mark Felt didn't leak to Woodward and Bernstein out of some patriotic motive. He leaked because he wanted to helm the FBI, got passed over, and wanted to embarrass the President in a power play. 84 On the underground economy front, I've noticed a major uptick in people who are willing to barter.   I'm referring to professional services and not just goods.  It's actually becoming a bit of an issue for us in helping some clients because when a small company goes under and we're trying to split up the assets, there's a big argument over if an item is the company's or if it's the person's since hey we got that office furniture because I went over and painted my buddy's house.

100 MP4, #78 -- It ain't just McCain. Mark Levin (a/k/a Angry Kermit the Frog) claims Bitch McConnell is maneuvering to get the Destroy-America-Once-and-for-All legislation through the Senate. It seems damn near all those superior beings in D.C. are lining up to welcome multiple millions of law-breakers into the country.

Choom Boy is making it easy for them (and himself), too. Dribbling out a "scandal" which will, in the end, go nowhere, punish no one and change no one's mind, while he and his fellow travelers get the big stuff done is a stroke of political genius.

Everyone from NR to Ace is obsessing about the friggin' IRS. Meanwhile, something that may well destroy this country completely -- unless you really wanted to live in Kenya or North Korea -- sails smoothly along.

105 Turns out those "rouges" in Cincinnati were being managed by higher-ups in D.C.:

"Officials in the Technical Unit of the IRS’s Rulings and Agreements office [in D.C.] played an integral role in determining how the targeted applications were treated, provided general guidelines to Cincinnati case workers, briefed other agency employees on the status of the special cases, and reviewed all those intrusive requests demanding “more information” from tea-party groups....

"According to the IRS source, who is based in Cincinnati, complex cases are routinely elevated to the Technical Unit for guidance. Many of the questions that agents sent to groups most likely came “from Tax Law Specialists — lawyers — in D.C.,” the Cincinnati employee explains. “With tea-party cases, questions from the Tax Law Specialists were way too aggressive,” he says.

109 100 Posted by: MrScribbler at May 22, 2013 07:46 AM (mHrip) Levin is dead on about McConnell. I think you miss the point; the IRS isn't necessarily a "distraction" from amnesty, although it certainly is convenient. It's an utterly serious shredding of any vestige of the rule of law and the Constitution. It is no less than government-sanctioned and instituted persecution of the citizenry. That does not take away from the fact that amnesty is going to be rammed down our throats, but the IRS crimes are not to be ignored. Bottom line is, we are being utterly gang-raped in every orifice and where there is no orifice, a Gosnell is there with rusty scissors to cut one open for the rancid syphilitic appendages of tyrants to invade us.

Joe Bastardi, top weather guy, was on Glenn Becks radio show yesterday. He made the point that the population of this country has doubled in the last 50 years. More roads, more buildings, more schools, more hospitals, etc. Also more damage by tornadoes. Where they used to tear up a cornfield, they now demolish a school. So in typical knee-jerk liberal fashion some want to blame Global Warming for the tornado, while also supporting allowing another 10 to 30 million in the country.

Gee, I don't know.  A waiver for something like this takes a full hearing before the AOSHQ board of directors, and it's really hard to find a time when they are all sober enough to meet.  Besides, we really shouldn't involve Ace in this.  It's better to give him plausible deniability.  They didn't bother Obama with any of these pesky things like Benghazi or the IRS, so we should just follow the same pattern here.

We'll just have to disagree on that.

Not that Bark Obama's use of the IRS (and the fact that "low-level staffers" went along willingly) isn't reprehensible. It is. In a "normal" state of affairs, heads would roll, people would be trying on orange jumpsuits and moving vans would even now be lining up at the White House.

If nothing else were happening, this would be horrifying. But when compared to the Chicago Jesus's other activities, this is fairly minor. It could also be stopped instantly, something that will be impossible with amnesty.

192 Joe Bastardi, top weather guy, was on Glenn Becks radio show yesterday. He made the point that the population of this country has doubled in the last 50 years. More roads, more buildings, more schools, more hospitals, etc. Also more damage by tornadoes. Where they used to tear up a cornfield, they now demolish a school.

I mentioned this yesterday but it's worth mentioning again--a hundred years ago, the death toll would have been at least ten times as high.  There would have been no warnings at all.

196 Predictions;

- Republicans will help take the Obama scandals, which are far-reaching and should ultimately result in criminal prosecutions, off the front page with this Immigration Debacle. That piece of legislation is probably the absolute worst assault on American sovereignty in our history. Not only does it reward illegal behavior (and in the process punish legal immigrants), it opens up a Treasury/entitlements that already going bankrupt, encourages chain immigration and does zero to secure the border. Let me repeat, zero. Read it (all 800 pages)- don't take my word for it.

All for nothing. The entire "this buys us Hispanic votes" meme is not only seedy and undemocratic,  but it's mendacious.

213 Regarding Obama--some smell blood in the water. That is because there is blood in the water. But remember this--the best way to see a faint star is by looking away from it, and the Titanic was sank by an oblique jolt that opened up some plates, but did not directly sink it. The ship's own weight did that. Likewise the Dambusters of World War II did not directly bring down the dam--they "merely" punched a hole so the water could do it for them.

238 AmSpec is right: Time to Go for the Kill on Obamacare. http://spectator.org/archives/2013/05/22/time-to-go-for-the-kill The IRS scandal provides Republicans and conservatives with the opportunity to repeal and replace Obamacare now. The House Republican majority should refuse to fund the expansion of the IRS necessary to manage Obamacare. Without that funding, and hiring thousands of additional agents, the IRS cannot even begin to manage Obamacare. President Obama may throw a fit. He may refuse to sign funding bills to keep the federal government open. No matter. Let him close his government down if he wants. related from the Weekly Standard Yet Another Obamacare Design Flaw Now, courtesy of the Journal, we learn that Obamacare’s mandated “essential benefits” (so “essential” that tens of millions of people freely forego them when the government doesn’t compel their purchase) really only apply to the small group and individual markets. In the realm of bigger businesses, the mandates won’t similarly apply. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/yet-another-obamacare-design-flaw_728619.html If only we had men and women with honor and integrity in Congress to focus and take this down now.

Decades later, when my mother visited there (she survived the death camps and forced labor in Vienna) she recalled seeing the muzzies taking the place over even back then (late 70's, early 80's) and had a bit of schadenfreude. 259 IRS's Lerner Had History of Harassment, Inappropriate Religious Inquiries at FEC insane, but, of course One of the most shocking things about the current IRS scandal is the revelation that the agency asked one religious pro-life group to detail the content of their prayers and asked clearly inappropriate questions about private religious activity. But under Lerner's watch, inappropriate religious inquiries were a hallmark of the FEC's interrogation of the Christian Coalition. According to Bopp's testimony: FEC attorneys continued their intrusion into religious activities by prying into what occurs at Coalition staff prayer meetings, and even who attends the prayer meetings held at the Coalition. This line of questioning was pursued several times. Deponents were also asked to explain what the positions of “intercessory prayer” and “prayer warrior” entailed, what churches specific people belonged, and the church and its location at which a deponent met Dr. Reed. One of the most shocking and startling examples of this irrelevant and intrusive questioning by F EC attorneys into private political associations of citizens occurred during the administrative depositions of three pastors from South Carolina. Each pastor, only one of whom had only the slightest connection with the Coalition, was asked not only about their federal, state and local political activities, including party affiliations, but about political activities that, as one FEC attorney described as “personal,” and outside of the jurisdiction of the FECA [Federal Election Campaign Act]. They were also continually asked about the associations and activities of the members of their congregations, and even other pastors. http://tinyurl.com/o4lht7q JEF's circle of friends hate, hate, and hate some more. Lib wife reading the NY Times next to me, "so how can the stock market be doing so well and yet unemployment is still high?"

The actual answer is that 401K plans are dumping a lot more money into the stock market every day than they are pulling out. This causes the stock market to rise. Of course in the future when more people will try to get their money out than are putting it in the market will fall. This is known as "Bad Luck" and will be entirely unexpected.

And, critically, WaPo executives of the era also wanted to embarrass the President.

Now they're the President's ardent defenders and groveling apologists.

A notional Woodward and Bernstein pair at the Post in 2013 would find their scoops getting killed in edit, or so watered down as to have been made into unrecognizable nonconfrontational pap.

327 Sowell's new piece. Undoing the Brainwashing Instead of fighting the Japanese for every island stronghold as the Americans advanced toward Japan, MacArthur sent his troops into battle for only those islands that were strategically crucial. In the same spirit, parents who want to bring their brainwashed offspring back to reality need not try to combat every crazy idea they picked up from their politically correct professors. Just demolishing a few crucial beliefs, and exposing what nonsense they are, can deal a blow to the general credibility of the professorial pied pipers. For example, if the student has been led to join the crusade for more gun control, and thinks that the reason the British have lower murder rates than Americans have is because the Brits have tighter gun control laws, just give him or her a copy of the book "Guns and Violence" by Joyce Lee Malcolm. http://townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/2013/05/22/undoing-the-brainwashing-n1601499

335 "I don't always go to the beach, but when I do, I prefer it not be 'urban'."

The beaches in Sydney, Australia have always been crowded but had an ethos of genial, egalitarian "mate-ey" politeness as people shared the limited space. Then Australia let in too many of the wrong sort of people as immigrants.

The sort of people who think that when an errant volleyball lands in THEIR ABSOLUTE AND INVIOLABLE SPACE of the beach, an appropriate response is to pull knives.

Things aren't quite so pleasant and "mate-ey" as they used to be.

344 The people buying our house, are becoming obnoxious. We're throwing in a lot of stuff, TV's, pool table, ping pong table, deck furniture, exercise equipment. Now they're asking if we can include my daughter's bedroom furniture. My husband told our agent "Good grief.....do they want the family pictures hanging on the wall too?!"

Holy crap, Tami.  I've never heard of that!  Dishwasher?  Yeah.  Fridge?  Of course.  Oven?  No problem.  But holy hell, to ask for your furnishings too?  I'd tell them to bite me, unless they cough up more money.

352 #229  Ed Anger,  here is your answer!

Those types of bottles,  commonly known as "round bottom bottles," were made to store liquids in which it was necessary to not have the cork or seal dry out.   They were designed so that the bottle had to be stored on its side to prevent the accidental storing of the bottle upright,  in which case the cork would dry out.

They were used for storing medicines, chemicals,  and soft drinks with fizz,  such as ginger ale and sarsparilla.

Value of these varies depending on color, condition,  and if there are remaining paper labels or molded writing on the  glass.  I did a quick check on eBay and the values there seem to be running between 10 and 25 dollars. However,  if you have one which has an early pharmaceuticul company label,  like Eli Lilly,  or a purple bottle (purple glass is a subset of glass collectors and they are a bit fanatical) you might get more.

Hope this helps!  I am always happy to answer questions.

But when I have in the past I never had any problems. And if this is some half-assed fix to keep spammers out it should just reject the post with a message telling you why -- just like the warnings that you posted too long of a character string. Although lately that little "feature" also appears to have shit the bed. Any way you look at it, publishing somebody's post with the content changed, and without warning, is one seriously fucked up way to run a blog posting system.

354 When a person who believes in the rule of law gets a government job - the organization will form a cyst around them to insure the bureaucracy's survival. If that encysted individual finds wrongdoing and reports it they will be crushed by the organization.

That is how things work in our government.
