— Gabriel Malor Happy Thursday.
The dude killed by the FBI in Florida implicated himself and Tamerlan Tsarnaev in that unsolved triple homicide in Boston. Suspicion: CONFIRMED.
Obama's going to try to change the subject today to the poll-tested topics of drones. Speaking of, did you hear that drone strikes accidentally killed three Americans, aside from the intentionally-targeted Anwar al-Awlaki?
Healthcare industry officials say they're feeling pressured to donate to a nonprofit with close ties to the White House. Just another day in Obama's America.
Maj. Nidal Hasan fired his attorneys and will represent himself in his upcoming court martial, which starts June 5.
The UK is taking what the Ministry of Defence terms a "common sense precaution" and ordering troops not to wear their uniforms if they're traveling alone to and from work or off bases. Eesh.
Switching gears, though not countries . . . this is a nice story about Helen Mirren.

Hello, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. While we wait for Vic, here are a couple of stories about Hollywood directors:
First up is “Wild Bill” Wellman – director of Wings, A Star Is Born, The High and the Mighty and many, many others. In 1949, he was filming Battleground, whose final scene is of a platoon of soldiers marching up out of a ravine, tired but resolute. It was a hot day when Wellman shot the scene, and the actors were sweltering under overcoats and heavy GI equipment.
One of the “soldiers” was a real veteran, Tommy Breen, who had lost a leg in the South Pacific. So Wellman put him in front as the platoon began walking out of the ravine. Suddenly he shouted, “Breen! You’re out of step. Let’s do it again.”. The men went back and started marching out again, but the cameras had barely begun turning when Wellman barked, “Breen, goddammit, get in step!” and ordered another take.
Again and again Wellman berated Breen and did take after take. Breen’s fellow performers were irritated at first, then indignant and then furious, ready to charge at the director himself. In the end, Wellman got exactly what he wanted on film, and after calling “cut!” put his arms around Breen and apologized. Not until then did the actors realize the method behind Breen’s madness.
Now hereÂ’s a story about the legendary Western director John Ford, who hated studio interference in any of his movies: one day, when he was on location, a messenger came riding up on horseback with a telegram from producer Sol Wurtzel complaining that Ford was behind schedule. Ford read the wire, then looked over to a nearby cowboy.
“Ed,” he yelled, “I’ve got a message here from Wurtzel. I’m going to fold it up and I want you to shoot a hole right through his name.” He held the wire up in his right hand, keeping it steady as the cowboy put a rifle to his shoulder and fired. Ford then unfolded the paper and held it up for everyone to see.
The bullet had gone right through WurtzelÂ’s name.
And thatÂ’s it for today. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

I wonder if Michelle knows the answer to the $64,000 question of where Barry was the night of Benghazi
There's someone on Ulsterman who's quite enamored of Lame Cherry, and often posts links and excerpts. I confess. Curiosity got the best of me. LC wins the prize for his/her theory of what exactly Barry was doing, and it's beyond ugly as well as bizarre.

13"Wow, I am up early. Broke hand yesterday in fall, off to drs for x ray and drugs."
I slipped coming out of a hot tub years ago and came down hard on the left hand. Had it looked at immediately by the next door neighbor (orthopedic surgeon) and X-rayed a couple of times.
Never found any break, but to this day if the hand hits a certain position, lots of pain.

MO is a right to work State now. Tht means employers can hire and fire at will as long as it complies with federal law.
Unless its a union job.
Why do government jobs have unions? Don't they already enjoy civil service protections? Are unions just there to be a pain in the ass for taxpayers?

Unless I'm otherwise mistaken, they were killed in strikes that took out terrorists. So what were they doing that they were close enough to get killed "accidentally" when terrorists were being killed.
Check the names. None of them were anything like Bob Smith or Fred Jones.

Exactly, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say some people want to tar Obama with this by breathlessly announcing that these poor innocent AMERICAN CITIZENS WERE KILLED BY DRONES!!!!
In Yemen. And Pakistan.
Here's our motto: wherever three or more terrorists are gathered in the name of Allah, that's where our drones shall be. If you happen to be in the vicinity, well, tough luck buddy.

One of them was the teenaged son of Anwar al Awlaki. One could argue that he was an innocent, and may not have been there voluntarily, although I have no real idea about that.
As I understand it, the real question is whether Obama has the unilateral right to execute an American citizen without any due process, like perhaps justifying the strike to a judge. The IRS scandal should make us wary about ceding to much power to him.

Used to be argued for because government workers were much more subject to political oriented retribution when a new regime came in, or if there were people from different political orientations working together. It was meant to provide stability and security for the People's business to proceed.
But we've obviously turned a page and have a whole "new" problem now.

"Schools track newborns. "
Yes, but things have only really gone off the rails in the last 5 years. That's enough time to show a difference in kindergarten classes, but the kids born during the seven fat years of Bush are still working their way through those elementary schools. I think immediate economic conditions are part of it, but I think there's also a larger, cultural atmosphere at work. People may not have been immediately affected in their own paycheck, but for decades they've been sensing that the wind was blowing against family life, and they didn't like their odds of succeeding against the forces lining up against them. So they opted out. Today, that trickle-down effect is coming to its inevitable end: no families, no children, no schools, no teachers.

The neighborhoods where they are closing schools are mostly black and/or hispanic. Heretofore, those were the only demos gaining population. Now, even those are dwindling.
The wailing and gnashing of teeth on these school closings is hysterical.. and about half the news here is devoted to it. Some of these schools have less than 100 kids in them.. big 3 story buildings. But according to all the residents and libtards and school union officials, the kids will be irreparably harmed mentally if they are forced to walk 4 blocks to another school.

Yes. Safety IS one of the big complaints. But that is giving in to the thugs.
You simply have to make it safe for the kids. Beef up cop presence, encourage parent groups to walk them to school, etc. You cannot continue to keep buildings open for dozens of kids because of gang threats.
An aside about gangs in Chicago.. there is an unspoken rule of silence by residents. They simply refuse to get involved and report who the kids are in these gangs. They are as much to blame for the violence in their neighborhoods as the perps.

Disagree. Ted Cruz has a very affable personality. On stage, he's warm, funny and communicates well. He's very good at explaining conservatism and quick to call out phonies and progressives. And he can do it with a smile on his face and chuckle in his voice. Gowdy, otoh, he's a shark (and I loooove him for it). While he might not be all warm and fuzzy, he's a serious straight talker. Neither has to pretend to like most people. Because they're pretty staunchly conservative, does that equate with not liking most people? Hardly. They both, Cruz especially, are excellent at conveying where they stand and why. I see Trey Gowdy as a superior AG. Cruz could be presidential material. He's got what it takes in so many areas.

However, officials have backed off that preliminary account, and it's no longer clear what happened in the moments before the fatal shooting.
"I heard a couple of loud bangs and saw a couple of cop cars riding by," said Jared Morse, who lives in the area. "They wouldn't let anyone out to see anything or anything like that, so they made us go back inside."
DRUDGE
IMO, this shooting reeks.

I love the diesel BMW endurance race when all the danger and technical difficulty of racing is shown, and the ultimate tearful elation of finishing overcomes Jeremy.
Like any great sports documentary, that one had it all. Even Hammond nearly dying in a crash with a much faster overtaking car. Mosler or something. One of those street (but really race) cars. Which leads to a superhuman rebuild by the Top Gear Buttcrack Technical Center.

As security experts highlighted the risk to Western cities of "lone wolf" attacks - similar to last month's Boston Marathon bombing
Oh so these murders are just "lone wolves" too. How convenient.

>>> If he files crimminal contempt it goes immediately to the DC court which then is required by law to empanel a Grand Jury.
Issa may certify a criminal contempt complaint. But he must then go to the D.C. U.S, Attorney and ask him to prosecute. The DC USA refused when Issa wanted to prosecute Holder, which is why Issa filed a civil contempt lawsuit. It's unclear if the USA would similarly refuse to file a criminal complaint against Lerner.
Given how fast-and-loose both Lerner and Issa have been with the Fifth Amendment, I think a criminal contempt citation is unlikely. And, as I wrote yesterday, a civil contempt lawsuit is almost certainly doomed to failure.

Images of the blood-soaked suspect - who urged Britons to overthrow their government or risk having their children face the fate of the dead soldier lying just yards away - were splashed across the front pages of newspapers; so too were links to his clearly spoken, matter-of-fact video statement, made as the pair chatted calmly to bystanders before police arrived.
Ain't diversity grand?

The yen bounced sharply off recent lows and German Bunds rose, gaining support from a shift in sentiment that followed Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke's comment that the bank may trim its bond purchases at one of its next policy meetings.
... the only thing that Obama could even possibly claim was the stock market, and now that in the crapper too

Not true. Criminal Contempt of Congress REQUIRES the DC Attorney to empanel a Grand Jury. There is no "ask" to it. So far they have not done that and the DC Attorney is in blatant violation of the law. (note both civil and criminal contempt have been filed against Holder.)

Actually makes sense, as dead terrorist is what Hasan should be already. All his (our) money should be split between the victims.

That raises an interesting question. Does the queen have the theoretical power to order someone beheaded?
It would probably be a tourist draw to have those two mooks from yesterday and the imam from their mosque taken to the Tower of London and then have the Yeomen Warders chop off their heads with an ax. Their head could then be displayed on spikes on London Bridge. People like to see quaint old customs being demonstrated.

No. There is quite a bit of conflicting precedent about whether prosecution by the DC USA is mandatory, which would be unique, or discretionary, like all othe prosecutions by USAs.
Notably, all prior DC USAs say their authority is discretionary. Congress, of course, insists that it can force an Executive Branch officer to perform a mandatory duty in contempt citations, but Congress would have to go to court to force that issue, something no Congress has wanted to do.
It's a sticky Legislative Branch v. Executive Branch question and that's why Congresscritters have more often gone the civil contempt route.

Right, like it being unconstitutional to use the IRS to crush your political opposition. Or it might be equally chilling on the First Amendment to have the Sec Def and CJCOS calling private citizens and 'requesting' they not burn Qurans or show a film.
Hypothetically of course. Because in the United States of America that could never happen. Only in tinpot banana republics.

be president; that includes ordinary folks as well as other politicians
they have to persuade to follow them.

But Gowdy likes the pups -- he has three -- Judge, Jury, and Baliff.

The UK is taking what the Ministry of Defence terms a "common sense precaution" and ordering troops not to wear their uniforms... Common sense. my ass. Dickless, I'd suggest.
The response of a nation of courage would be like the Danish response in WW2 when the Nazi occupiers ordered all Jews to wear the Star of David. In the story -- some historians doubt it but it still serves as model behavior -- the king announced that he would also wear the symbol and urged all his people to do so, and -- so the story goes -- most did.
When a population group is threatened, the courageous response is not to hide the group, but for EVERYONE to identify with the group. In Britain, that means everyone -- wanna-be-British immigrants among them -- wears some sort of military insignia or item of clothing. Everybody but the cowards.
In the West in general, when maniacal murderers threaten death to anybody offending their religion with artwork, the only proper response is NOT to comply and hide the artwork, but to put it EVERYWHERE -- T-shirts, wall murals, sides of busses, TV ads, lapel pins -- and smash the fear-mongers.
Why should there even be an issue of the proper response of free people to tyranny and terrorism?
