Happy Monday.

Some good news coming out of SC1 -- Sanford has reversed Colbert Busch's lead and the two are statistically tied. The special election is tomorrow. Here's a gem of a report on Sanford that implies some reasons for the come-back.

White House aides say that President Obama was off-script when he warned Syria not to cross the "red line. "Nuance got completely dropped."

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Since I watched Gold Diggers of 1933 on Saturday, hereÂ’s a Ginger Rogers story:

Fred Astaire was preparing to shoot the “Cheek to Cheek” number in 1935Â’s Top Hat when Rogers arrived in a dress covered completely with ostrich feathers.*  He gave them a concerned look, but was assured by Rogers that everything would be fine.  So the backing tape was cued, the cameras rolled, Fred and Ginger sailed out on to the dance floor – and the feathers began to fly everywhere, blinding Astaire and making him sneeze.  Manfully, he tried to go on, but after an hour gave up: “It was like a chicken being attacked by a coyote.  I never saw so many feathers in my life!”

Astaire, normally the kindest of men, was never so angry as when one of his dance routines was interrupted, and began yelling at Rogers, whose mother charged on to the set to berate him while Rogers ran away in tears.  It was finally agreed to give the dress one more chance, but only, Astaire insisted, if the feathers were sewn into place.  A team of seamstresses took on the task, and the next day, the two glided through the song with ease.**

From then on, Astaire insisted on personally inspecting his partners’ costumes before filming, but he very quickly got back on good terms with Rogers; his nickname for her from then on was “Feathers.”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

*Bernard Newman was the official designer for the movie, but the dress was RogersÂ’ own creation.

**Although the sewing job was an heroic attempt, you can still see a few feathers flying during the number.

25 On the night of Sept. 11, as the Obama administration scrambled to respond to the Benghazi terror attacks, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a key aide effectively tried to cut the department's own counterterrorism bureau out of the chain of reporting and decision-making, according to a "whistle-blower" witness from that bureau who will soon testify to the charge before Congress, Fox News has learned. That witness is Mark I. Thompson, a former Marine and now the deputy coordinator for operations in the agencyÂ’s counterterrorism bureau. Sources tell Fox News Thompson will level the allegation against Clinton during testimony on Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif. Fox News has also learned that another official from the counterterrorism bureau -- independently of Thompson -- voiced the same complaint about Clinton and Under Secretary for Management Patrick Kennedy to trusted national security colleagues back in October.

I've always believed he was an empty suit, and now they are more or less admitting it.  It's not a question of the mighty falling, but more a matter of the mighty needing to find some other face to put up for themselves.

30 Thompson's lawyer, Joseph diGenova, a former U.S. attorney, has further alleged that his client has been subjected to threats and intimidation by as-yet-unnamed superiors at State, in advance of his cooperation with Congress. Sources close to the congressional investigation who have been briefed on what Thompson will testify tell Fox News the veteran counterterrorism official concluded on Sept. 11 that Clinton and Kennedy tried to cut the counterterrorism bureau out of the loop as they and other Obama administration officials weighed how to respond to -- and characterize -- the Benghazi attacks. "You should have seen what (Clinton) tried to do to us that night," the second official in State's counterterrorism bureau told colleagues back in October. Those comments would appear to be corroborated by Thompson's forthcoming testimony

36 The Rape of Taiwan, May 1 [Peaceful demonstration clubbed down by police. Meanwhile...] Surely, President Ma Ying-jeou’s administration’s “goodwill” policy toward China does not entail turning Taiwan’s 23 million people into servants of the Chinese. Surely it does not mean that Chinese visitors with political connections can behave as they see fit, rape Taiwanese women and not suffer the consequences. How much longer will Taiwan look the other way when Chinese break the law in Taiwan, steal from hotel rooms, repeatedly vandalize natural parks and monuments, collect intelligence or relieve themselves in the middle of an international airport? If it continues like this, the Chinese could be excused for thinking that they own the place and rule Taiwan. This must stop. Now. Police can no longer be allowed to be complicit in a system that cracks down on innocent Taiwanese who are fighting for the future of their country, while allowing Chinese visitors to get away with murder. /follow the money.

80 Norway was First-world even before the oil. (For example, the recovery of Norwegian shipping after WW II is still one of the most breathtaking feats in modern finance.) Despite the icy water, the steep terrain, the cold and rocky soil, the grim sea conditions off every coast except the southern, the constant threat from the Teletubbies in Sweden, Norwegians weren't marrying their cousins nor cutting off clitorises. Oddly, now in Minneapolis, once the home of nearly as many Norwegians as Oslo, Den Norske Lutherske Mindekirke is just a few blocks from where African Muslim immigrants have done their best to turn the City of Lakes into a little Mogadishu in every regard from burkhas to irrational traffic behaviors. http://preview.tinyurl.com/cjcubya What is going on?

86 Let the jihadis hate on the Russians for a while. ...Sure. Nothing new with that history between the Russians and their neighboring Muslims. Given the recent set of players, though, Putin is no idiot. And Russians, unlike NATO, learned what to avoid in dealings with Afghanistan. Whereas, our American politicians are plagued with a false sense of invulnerability, nearsighted with no sense of history. There's always fresh meat for the politicians to offer the god of terror. And our voting taxpayers are bound to a sense of loyalty to global corporatism that enslaves everyone outside of an inner sanctum, rather than function by our constitutional heritage. Americans in general have become a most short term memory population of dolts, fed the most inane propaganda. Given our generational schisms, we're too proud to connect with responsibility for previous administrations' blow back. Obama reiterated "inherited" as if an explanation for perpetuation of stupidity. "You're stuck on stupid. Don't stay stuck on stupid." Gen. There is no particular martial spirit among the Syrians, other than the typical Arab skill in battle.

The Afghans national sport is fighting and killing, and they are good at it.

A bit of U.S. Nuclear Weapons testing history.

51 years ago on May 6, 1962 the U.S. Navy conducted the Frigate Bird test which was part of Operation Dominic 1 atmospheric nuclear tests in the Pacific.

Launched from the ballistic missile submarine USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608 ), a Polaris A-1 missile with a single 600 kiloton warhead (about 40 Hiroshimas) traveled 1100 miles and detonated at an altitude of 11,000 feet. The test was a complete success.

Frigate Bird is still the only full scale test from launch to detonation of a U.S. strategic missile with a live nuclear warhead.

Meanwhile in Moscow a collective "Oh shitski" was heard echoing throughout the Kremlin's walls.

139 The Syrians are not the Afghans. Yes. The Syrians are yet a cohesive functional culture of various ethnic identities, though not from various global regions, meshing the indigenous populations of its own region. Even the Afghans used to coexist with their own various ethnic tribes until the 20th Century and European World Wars based upon the same game of RISK monopoly in which we're mired still. The corporations with globalist ambitions played Western politicians like puppets, denouncing the Westernization of the Arabian Peninsula, chafing at Turkey's new secular national identity as a monetary threat to monopoly. Unlike Libya and Afghanistan where tribal/sect identity lived isolated from each other in traditional regional segregation, Egypt and Syria are the surviving seats of civilization where the population of various religions at large are integrated culturally. Where Carter negotiated Peace between Egypt and Israel, Obama spawned the destruction of Egypt. In Syria, the peoples have been coexisting all these thousands of years; the various Muslim sects, ancient indigenous Orthodox Christians preceding the various Muslim sects now dominant. Syria has been hosting refugee camps granting political asylum for many other nations' displaced populations from regions already demolished by the West and the NATO alliance with the Saudi Wahhabi Muslim Brotherhood in the fraud called "Arab Spring" for liberty. Criticize Syria for that, "promoting" terrorism by providing safe haven from terrorism. Perpetuate the vicious cycle, the blame game. And promote "the final solution" as if genocide is America's prerogative. At that point, we condemn ourselves. National sovereignty. It's not just for us.

158 The President apparently told the grads at Ohio State U. not to listen to the folks warning of government tyranny. The fact that felt he had to speaks volumes. The President has a problem, because he is never going to be able to turn around the instincts of his authoritarian Progressive base in time before the meme of American life just being one constant stream of one petty and arbitrary autocrat after another coming at you sets in concrete with the public more than it has. The problem isn't necessarily government action, it is uncontrollable government action, action by a government controlled by a clique and hell-bent on molding the people in its preferred image (Bloomberg, see). The nexus between media and Progressives is going to do nothing--try as they might--to prevent that realty from being seen and acted upon by the people, because too often it *is* in fact a realty (Bloomberg, see). Advocates of government have simply got to admit they mess up sometimes, that they are trying to change the character of the people by fiat, and agree to put in mitigating measures so that the people drive the horse, and not the horse the people.

3. Obama didn't think anyone would actually use the gas (despite ample evidence of the brutality on both sides).

Abe Lincoln spoke of tyranny, "It is the eternal struggle between these two principles--right and wrong--throughout the world. They are the two principles that have stood face to face from the beginning of time; and will ever continue to struggle. The one is the common right of humanity, and the other the divine right of kings. It is the same principle in whatever shape it develops itself. 178 We've contributed to the violence only due to the fact that we just happen to be a consumer of some of their products and they are too savage to learn how to share the wealth. Of course the same could be said of the Irish and the Italians during prohibition.

179 Every purchase of "MADE IN MEXICO"? If you bastards (other than me) would only stop eating Mexican food...

180 On the Mexican Government's refusal to grant immigration to their southern neighbors, remember the wealthy Spanish Communists whom the Mexican Government provided safe passage and immigration rights during the Spanish revolution "civil war" gone fascist. So much for the communist ideal in practice, enabling the workers of the world. So long as they're European intellectuals who speak Spanish. Oligarchy!

182 sweet gum? I don't think I've seen one before. Will keep an eye out, though. I did think about juniper. I hesitate because of pets and the baby, don't want either eating berries and getting sick.

Sweet gums are nice until they start dropping those %^#&$^&#^ balls.

184 Posted by: Regular Moron at May 06, 2013 08:38 AM (U2UQk) Perfect quote. I say let's starve the beast of "foreigners" and they can jihad themselves into extinction...all in the name of allah.

185 #182   Tell me about sweet gums.  I have a huge one next to our driveway.  My husband hates it so much he wants to cut it down.

It's a beautiful tree until it starts dropping the seed balls,  which it does from late fall through February.  They land on the driveway and freeze into the snow and ice,  making a hazard for walking.

However,  the tree is so big and beautiful I just don't want to lose it.

186 So,  since the democrats will not even unite when we face an external threat, can we now say they are not as civilized as Arabs or Afghans?

188 stop eating Mexican food... The few cents "saved" buying Mexican produce is fool's bate when Montezuma takes revenge (best served cold). It takes great faith for baptism by immersion to alter biology.

193 3. Obama didn't think anyone would actually use the gas (despite ample evidence of the brutality on both sides).

This is the correct answer.  He thought he would sound tough but never have to carry through with his tough talk.  Notice that, to appease the base, they have thrown Barry under the bus.

194 When WaPo says Sanford could win it means it is in the bag.  This is a Republican district and the State GOP has finally quit bashing Sanford.

195 From Drudge:
"Obama to Grads: Reject voices that warn of government tyranny"
So, in other words:
"Obama to Founders: Shut the fuck up, you're white, dead, and pissing on my campfire."

I'm sure the college grads, are thinking: Dude, like what's he talking about? There are trannies working for the government?

196 I find it amusing/telling that Sanford's support is stronger from tea party cons than the moderates/establishment GOP. Sorta belies the accusations about Purity cons cs Pragmatic ones. So if Sanford wins will it be the Tea Party's "fault?"

197 Ba-rawn-ko and Ron Burgady are "sort of" alike. With Ron Burgandy you hope he goes off-prompter for a laugh, and with Ba-rawn-kobama you sit you're pants when he goes off-Prompter because it may lead to explosions and I don't mean explosive laughter.

198 Please take a moment to follow the links on passing of Chipper Gerdes.  The early reflections are just previews about how this man will be eulogized.  An acolyte of Andrew, Chipper was a force of nature.  There can be no exaggeration, without Chipper our modern Tea Party Movement a la the Saint Louis epicenter would not exist in the form we experience today.  The hope for our future was very much in part cast by Chipper's tireless energy and brilliant tactics; he used both to continually frustrate the encroaching slime of the demoncRAT left.  Chipper is one of the many heroes in the pantheon of our resistance and conservative movement.  My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, daughter, his mom and siblings.  Quincy will never be the same without Chipper, but now he goes to his eternal reward and bottomless V&Ts with Andrew.
