2 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, May 09, 2013.  On this day in 1974 the House Judiciary committee opened formal impeachment hearings on Richard Nixon.  There were a litany of charges in the final impeachment draft. It should be noted that Clinton and Obama are both guilty of virtually all of these charges, and Obama even more.  It should also be noted the House was in complete and dominant control of the Democrats 242 to 192. They were also in complete and dominant control of the Senate 57 to 40.

7 Turns out that the sex and drugs scandal at that Baltimore prison was fueled by a union contract that prevented officials from properly supervising guards.  One more nail in the coffin for public service employee unions.  BTW, guess the Party of the Governor who approved the contract.  After years of Democrat control MD is rapidly sinking into a shit hole.  Soon the whole State will be Detroit.

8 This article blames a camera club for breaking the news to the Norks that the USS Nimitz was coming to S. Korea.  When you read the article you see that in fact it was just piss poor judgment and incompetence of US officials and Senior Navy officials.   This continues the theme from yesterday that military leadership at senior levels need to be fired.

Crony Corruption in action.  Each energy job from the Obama money pipeline cost $11M.   Does that mean that a factory worker at one of these places was paid $11M?   No, but that damn money went somewhere. Most of it went into the pockets of the people developing the scam to milk the subsidies and the lobbyists who guaranteed that Democrat coffers would be filled. If we had an honest congress there would be a law on the books now that no federal dollars would ever go to subsidizing any private industry in the US again.  But to get that it would take an Art V convention.

21 I am reposting this from last night because I think it is important:

Heard a delayed broadcast of Dana Loesch Wednesday evening where she interviewed Representative Ann Wagner (R-MO) .  Wagner served as an ambassador during the Bush Administration.

She told Loesch that the stand down order for Lt. Col. Gibson's group could ONLY have come from the President of the  United States.  Since Wagner is not a fire-breather,  nor someone ignorant of those procedures (given her background) I assume she knows what she's talking about.

She was very emphatic about it,  and said that was why she was one of the first to sign on to a select committee request and why she would continue to press for one.

52 The problem with our Senators is that they all come from money. They never had to run a weekly payroll, or sit down with a calculator and a box of receipts and construct a tax return on their own. No knowledge of costs of anything. They 'outsource' cost projections to a person or persons who shares the same agenda. Then surprise, surprise, the projections are understated. Because they come from money, and have enough to last them about eight generations, they don't give a flying fuck what they do to the current and next generation. We are Rome, in the final days.

I commented about that yesterday:  The Tremont neighborhood is a strange one. It used to be where all the DPs lived who worked in the steel mills and was a nice family neighborhood. Then it got a major fuck job in the 70s when they constructed interstates all around it and a lot of the families said fuck this shit and left. Since then it's been a mixture of people who stuck around, arty types, gentrification types and lowlifes. My point is that any concept of a cohesive neighborhood went down the shitter a long time ago and it's very possible for shitheads to live isolated lives there where nobody knows what the fuck they're doing.

Te reason I said it would take an Art V convention is because neither Party wants to do it.  They are both worthless and it doesn't appear that it is going to do anything but get worse.

Also, I prefer an Art V convention over armed and bloody revolution because the outcome of those is usually worse than the conditions that caused them

95 #80  If Sally Field never did another good thing in her life,  she made the movie "Not Without My Daughter."

I recommend all parents have their middle-school age daughters watch it.  My daughter never even considered dating a Muslim after watching it.

The movie is the true story of a woman married to an Iranian doctor who is seemingly westernized.  They go back to a visit to his parents and the Ayatollah is in power,  he goes all fundamentalist on her,  the mother-in-law hates her,  and she ends up as a prisoner with her little girl.  She does escape through contacts and sympathetic friends,  but it details the nightmare of marrying into a culture so different from our own.

This is my piece of practical parenting advice for today.

107 Alderman Edward Burke (14th) promotes an ordinance lifting the ban on displaying historical arms in Chicago city museums. THE favorite museum for our kids growing up in Austin was the Natural History boasting the skeleton of a dinosaur in the lobby and two floor exhibit of historical guns (no longer there!). Weapons used to be crafted as dazzling centuries ago, like jewelry, works for the aristocratic art of power in self defense and aggression. As if the serfs or peasants owned any guns. Perhaps that's the secret Chicago gun banners won't have told. Again, weapons and ammunition for the monstrous elitists to horde (DHS fulfilling Obama's '08 initial video agenda for his own private army "as well equipped and trained" as the US Military), but not for you or me.

Gosnell's defense attorney Jack McMahon has said his client never delivered a baby alive during abortion procedures. McMahon said Gosnell used the drug Digoxin to stop fetuses' hearts in utero before being delivered.

Seven women and five men are weighing a total of 268 charges against the former doctor. More than 200 of the charges are related to alleged abortion-law violations.

Jurors are also deliberating theft by deception charges against Gosnell's co-defendant and former employee Eileen O'Neill. Prosecutors say O'Neill pretended to be a doctor and billed for her services even though she was not a licensed physician.

Specifically, the organization is honoring Rice for ”her work in advancing U.S. interests, strengthening the world’s common security and prosperity, and promoting respect for human rights,” another press release states. 120 BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit System that serves the San Francisco Bay area, has finally come clean. Starting this past Monday, those who defecate, urinate, masturbate, sell drugs, assault others, or write graffiti wonÂ’t be welcome on their trains. You would think that those rules would already have been in place, but hey, weÂ’re talking San Francisco here. Assembly Bill 716 passed last year, and gives BART permission to issue a "prohibition order." This means it can ban riders who commit the aforementioned acts. The exile from BART can last from 30 days to one full year. But wait, thereÂ’s good news! If you only write graffiti or poop on the escalator, youÂ’re still eligible to ride until youÂ’ve committed the infraction three times. If youÂ’re a trifle more nasty, and you stab or shoot or assault someone, itÂ’s one strike and youÂ’re out. There is no telling what the penalty is if you publicly announce you are a conservative. Is any comment necessary?

121 Didn't anyone learn anything from the Chris brown Rihanna thing? In the hood, slappin up a bitch is pretty common.

Getting arrested and convicted of it is, but there's no evident reason to think it's done at anything but the standard rate.

America's female reported-victimization rate is lower than Canada's, and they only have two 'hoods. In countries with higher rates, it's rural women who report above average.

Beating down a dude who's a bitch is more the "urban" thing. And violent crime anywhere is crime against men, pretty much.

Don't believe the hype.

And Chris Brown's fans are white girls who hate Daddy because he's a bitch, not...

I actually don't know who else they'd conceivably be.

151 WASHINGTON — The head of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency says that the Obama administration has discussed declassifying key data on U.S. missile defense in order to provide it to Russia. The administration has been exploring how to ease Russian concerns that the U.S. missile defense shield is aimed at countering Russia's nuclear arsenal. Arms control advocates have suggested that revealing missile interceptor capabilities could provide a breakthrough on an issue that Russia says stands in the way of nuclear arms reductions. But doing so would provoke charges by Republicans that the administration is compromising national security to appease Moscow. Under questioning at a hearing on Wednesday, Missile Defense Agency director Vice Adm. James Syring said that he has discussed declassifying data, including the speed of interceptors, with senior Defense Department officials. Missile defense has long been a contentious issue between the United States and Russia. The U.S. has said that its capabilities are aimed at countering threats from Iran and North Korea. It says that its interceptors would not pose a threat to Russia's huge nuclear arsenal. President Obama has twice altered U.S. missile defense plans in Europe that Russia had stridently opposed. He has said the decisions were about better addressing threats. But Republicans have charged that they were aimed at soothing Russian objections. Guess I better start brushing up on my Russian

167 154 -

Most cases involve two drunk people going at it, and when the cops show up they tend to haul off the guy, because... well, we know why.

Doesn't mean he's a saint, but the old saying "it takes two to tango" generally used to apply.  These days cops MUST arrest somebody in many of these circumstances.

And yes, whether we like it or not, cops will treat black men differently from white men.  Some dame says Charles Ramsey smacked her?  He's going to jail.  If she says I did?  Well, I have some lawyers on speed dial.  So even if I do get cuffed, I probably won't end up getting charged.

184 Obama meets privately with energy industry CEOs on storms 7 12 By JOSH GERSTEIN | 5/8/13 11:58 PM EDT President Barack Obama met behind closed doors with energy executives Wednesday in a session the White House said was arranged to discuss the industry's response to Hurricane Sandy last year and preparations for this year's hurricane season. "The President thanked the utility executives for their efforts during the response to Hurricane Sandy and noted the strong working relationship demonstrated between industry and the federal government as companies worked to restore power to millions of customers in Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern States, including the resources and personnel shared to assist these efforts by a number of companies who were outside of the affected region," the White House said in a read-out of the meeting. The White House did not respond to queries from POLITICO about why the public and press were excluded from the discussion, which took place at the Energy Department. ????Hum, didn't the dems take Bush/Cheney to court for the same thing?

186 Obama going to Texas for the second time in two weeks?

Democrat operatives moving to the state and putting significant resources into turning Texas "blue"?

Carney said the President wants to highlight what Democrats can do for the economy. Mmm- why visit Texas? That's the Republican model. Why not go to, say California for a Democrat view?

Think about the temerity of these people. They destroy our economy, then go to a Republican state where they've ignored just about everything Democrats and Obama have done, have succeeded in spite of them, escaped from other Democratic controlled states and then try to claim they are "highlighting" the Democrat model.

Not that I am worried, but the GOP better have a counter attack planned. Never cede anything to the vote-stealing, anti-constitutionalists. Never

Could also be a blanket consent to do educational research involving taped interviews and the like (which then may be aired at conferences).

Which BTW, I'd take a pass on.  "Research conducted in established or commonly accepted educational settings, involving normal educational practices...." get a pass on the normal federal regulations, but people still love them some privacy waivers.

Having said that, if you're going to be doing a specific project you should have to ask permission for that project not a blanket thing like this.

233 The wife is in education and there are now a large quantity of parents that do not want their child photographed or printed in a newspaper, etc.

That seems reasonable to me. I wouldn't want my kid's face to appear in a newspaper accompanying a piece about how sad and wrong it is Scott Walker forces her teacher to pay a teeny percentage of their own health insurance premiums.

I just don't like the blanket permission slip that doesn't differentiate between "photo of the cast of a school play in the local paper for publicity" and "footage of kids lisping paeans to SCOAMF posted on YouTube."

240 Obamacare Red Tape Burden Surges To 189 Million Hours A YearÂ… And the law still hasnÂ’t been implemented. Via Washington Secrets: The growing tower of Obamacare red tape flooding out of federal agencies will sock American businesses and families with nearly 200 million hours of paperwork compliance a year, a 50 percent jump in just the past three months as the administration pushes out more rules. The number of compliance hours is so staggering that three House committees, in updating their Obamacare Burden Tracker, put it in perspective by claiming that the Empire State Building could be built 27 times in the 189,822,836 hours estimated so far by the Office of Management and Budget and IRS. Just three months ago, the House Ways and Means, Education and the Workforce, and Energy and Commerce committees first estimated the paperwork burden at 127 million hours per year. Since then, the administration has scrambled to issue more regulations in time for the Jan. 1 kickoff of the Obamacare program. Weasel Zippers. Funny Picture

241 114 Waldo You might think that's how things were. The current propaganda wouldn't dissuade you. But back in the post-WWII era USA, the Middle East various State governments were very much Westernizing, taking the lead from Turkey's WWI transition into secular constitutional Democratic-Republics. Yes, some chose socialism, and actually delivered as promised "the people", for instance Gaddafi in Libya using oil profits to secure the Libyan Central Bank with gold, to build the nation's complete modern infrastructure, and provide food and jobs for the people. (And on that note, Americans, wittingly or not, tolerated and now demand the "rights of socialism" or the welfare state, as is evident from the authoritarian functioning of the US government today on political policy vs. Constitutional Governance. But the US taxes its middle class, even after nationalizing an industry -- Detroit/GM, etc. Whereas, Gaddafi put Obama to shame so far as being the functional model of a Socialist State taking care of its own populations.) The impulse amongst the generation following JFK's assassination was strongly influenced with an open arms to cultural exchanges, welcoming foreign exchange students; meaning, American students studied abroad in a cooperative exchange with foreign students studying in America. Prior to the Islamist fundamentalist upheavals to destroy the constitutional rights of citizens in various 20th Century newly burgeoning Muslim majority States, look carefully at the indigenous "costumes" worn daily by the Muslim women and men. Very beautiful and ornate, NO burqa. Lots of bright colors, and beautiful ribbons, headdresses, embroidery, and lovely long hair styled in braids. Actually, very similar to the old European "costumes" that were still worn in Eastern European nations at the same time. And were you, whether American or not, to be invited into a Muslim's home, you would have enjoyed the height of hospitality. Remember, Lebanon was a CHRISTIAN nation state. Remember the efforts there for a "Pan-Arab" region of SECULAR governments which efforts were sabotaged by Western global corporatists who plotted to maintain their own monopoly on world power, no room at the inn of wealth creation from the Middle East except through the unholy alliance with the Wahhabi illegitimate Muslim sect's House of Saud. Our Eisenhower's warning upon leaving office is today dismissed out of hand. That Ike let that monster loose is yet America's bane to bear, AJAX vs. Iranian democratic-republic nation-state. America rues the day we let out that Djinn of Destruction to fester the cancerous hatreds of "others". The world's populations had not yet completely ingested the absolute hatred for the foreign. Rather, the exotic was still something to be experienced for oneself, the risk of danger and 007 glamour, outwitting with style, man to man combat for "intelligence". This doesn't alter the facts of life. When one marries, one marries into the spouse's culture, one embraces the spouse's culture. And whether alluring or not, patriarchal societies do not "play fair" with women's rights. Friendship is one thing. Marriage quite another. Miss Marple is correct. My generation witnessed the royal wedding of an American Dartmouth graduate young woman to a polygamous royal head of state, the King of Jordan. It was her choice, and she converted to Islam with no expectation to change her husband's ways. Whatever alliance in ideology or blood that King determined in proposing marriage with an American, we can only see in his son. That's "as good as it gets" in the highest of societies. For the common people, wealthy or not, learn Dorothy's lesson, and find what you want from "home". And never think you'll change your spouse for his/her own good unless you plan for unhappiness and usually divorce.

Well technically whoever takes the pictures would still own them after the yearbook is printed, unless the school negotiates for the total copyrights.

I went through this with my wedding photos.  We settled on me getting print rights but the photographer would turn over her right to use them for "contests and/or advertising" (and probably whatever else.)

I normally don't like not being able to control where pictures of me go, but I had to set that aside this one time.

school photo waiver, they are doing that a lot now but the school districts haven't quite figured out the catch all wording that will cover their assess and still let the kids be photographed for the yearbook or for use in school district materials. Our district changed their form this year and everyone is very confused over the two choices they gave us, basically either "never photograph child or I will raise holy hell" or "hey, spread my child's photograh and any videos you take of him everywhere, I'm all in for him being used as a cheap prop for the school district"

I think they should allow photos for school use (yearbook too) but any time they distribute the photos outside the school building (even for district use) they should have parents sign a waiver. Video is complicaing things even more and of course the ease of sharing photos on the Internet.

Not sure there really is anything that will protect kids from a) their own stupidity when it comes to photo sharing and b)determined perverts from getting photos.

282 #243 panzerhorn,  thank you for your excellent explanatin.

When I was in high school,  there was a group called "American Field Service" who managed most exchange students for high schools.  At the end of the academic year they would send buses throughout the country to pick up the students and deliver them to New York for their flights home,  giving them a last tour of the USA.

My high school was one of those stops,  and our family hosted 2 young guys,  one from Afghanistan and one from Iran.   I still have their senior pictures somewhere in my photo albums.   They were (or seemed) very western at the time.  This was when Afghanistan was more pro-western and Iran was run by the Shah - 1966.

I have often wondered what became of them.  I think probably the Afghani is dead and the Iranian probably in exile in Los Angeles or London.  The times were very different,  and when the woman married the Iranian in that movie,  the Shah was still in power

That movie is a cautionary tale.  I went to college with guys from the Middle East,  and they were always very interested in American women.  I was already married when in school,  so they didn't bother me,  but I certainly observed their efforts with others.

My daughter's experience at college was the same,  except she was immune because she had seen Sally Field's movie.  I cannot emphasize how important it is that young women understand that marrying an Arab or Ianian is not going to be like marrying Alladdin.  There is no magic carpet to get you out of trouble.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Aiming to show he's still focused on creating jobs, President Barack Obama is beginning a series of quick trips around the country to resurrect ideas from his State of the Union address that became overshadowed by the intense debates over gun control, immigration and automatic spending cuts.

Obama on Thursday was dropping in on Austin, Texas, and using that bustling state capital as a backdrop to talk about attracting jobs, providing skills training and ensuring that hard work begets a decent living.

So he's going to go on a campaign trip to rail against his invisible villains and pretend that he's doing something for the economy. Funny how he's using Texas as his backdrop for job growth

Strangely enough my Dad told me almost the same thing: "There's a lot of money in dirt":

If somebody needs it and doesn't have it he will pay you to provide it.  If somebody has it and wants to get rid of it he will pay you to take it away.  You can move a load of dirt from point A to point B and get paid at both ends of the trip.

All it takes is some heavy equipment, and some land on which to temporarily store the dirt.

Fortunes have been made that way.

It was crowded. I was reading under an umbrella when I noticed him. I stood up, he saw me, and hauled butt off the beach. I had a split second to make a ChristyB scene and figured I did not have enough proof that he was a perv. I wish now I had made a scene. My family thinks I am crazy anyway, so what is another story of Mom tackling the guy on the beach and beating his head with the movie camera? The other day I saw this dood on a bike, all tanned and groovy-pants, riding on the bike path and near the crossing guard, on main street in our beach town when elementary school was over for the day. I think he was scoping the scene for stray kids. He looked all "California" cool. We are not cool like that here. I got my "he's a perv vibe" but, once again, sanity ruled. 355 You can still use film and have it developed, then high res scanned, then burnt to DVD. I've done this in the past. When you have just *the* picture, you take the neg back in to get the enlargement. They can pry my 2 1/4 TLR from my cold dead hands.

There's certainly an aesthetic pleasure to be found in prints by Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Minor White, Paul Strand and lots of others probably including you.  As somebody who spent a bit of time in darkrooms, the chemicals are brutal and digital makes the dodging and burning for certain prints a one time thing and much easier to accomplish.

Like I said, stay away from the Sony.  They are unreliable.

359 They said they will turn Texas blue within 10 years and they will.

They will indeed. Hispanics = the new blacks.

Hopeless dependency on government subsistence until the end of time, the new American dream.
=============
Not true.

But only the Stupid Party could fuck this up. All it takes to get Hispanics to vote for Republicans in Texas is (a) run a Hispanic and/or (b) advertise like hell on the Spanish language stations.

Oh, and they don't fucking care one damned bit about amnesty . . . .

So yeah, the Stupid Party is batting 1-3 on "how to win the Hispanic vote."

363 311 Caustic Ted Cruz on Benghazi, "It is time for some answers. Let us hope that the House hearing this week will finally shed some light, and that the inquiry continues until the facts are fully understood." Last night on the Jerry Doyle Show, Rand Paul left Hillary legal wiggle room until proof exposes that she was literally sworn in under oath before giving perjury as testimony to both House and Senate. Point being on every jot and tittle, SWEAR THE BASTARDS IN BEFORE TESTIMONY and questions demanding sworn "answers". What the hell is "testimony" unless given under oath?

Oh it will work fine in the store.  But after a while when you bring it home it will give up the ghost.  I used to buy all Sony stereo equipment.  Over the years those also became unreliable as hell.

I have given up on all things Sony.

365 "I appreciate ya'lls insights into this unfortunate side of life, but seriously, how fucking hard is it to avoid getting in physical altercations that cause the police to show up?"

My stepson is 23 and his girlfriend is 30. They got into it over some flirting texts he sent to another girl. He got away from her three times before she cornered him and it got physical. (His license is revoked, so he couldn't drive any place to get away.) The court totally ignored her part in it. The judge is a former domestic abuse prosecutor.

He's got a no contact order with her for a year and she's pregnant with his kid. She's tried to get them to lift the order and they are treating her like a child. You really do not know what this crap is like until you have to deal with people in the legal system. Meanwhile, we are trying to calm down the girlfriend who thinks he no longer loves her, and she can't even talk to him on the phone or write him a letter without sending him to jail for a year. He had no previous arrests for violence. I can't tell you how disgusted I am with the legal system.

(We have a friend that got popped for a sexual offense. He touched a 16 year old girl in the breast area while they were both fully dressed. He was 19 at the time. He still has to register as a sexual offender and he's 40 now. The prosecutor in the case would work to have the offense removed, if he could come up with the $700 to do it. And don't get me started on how awful public defenders are. I had no idea).

366  Also, it looks like IBD also agrees with me that the bill is unconstitutional from start to finish, and not just because the Supremes have previously ruled this kind of sales tax shit unconstitutional.

They just need to say it's not a tax.  Roberts can then say it is and declare it okee dokee.

367 367 and fuck LBJ, stinkin' socks 'n all his bloody rot. If TX goes Democrat Majority again, beyond "the Great Society" propaganda to subjugate the Americans back into slavery regardless of race/ethnicity, and beyond wars of aggression "Because I Could" a la Truman and LBJ (against all advice that he requested re: Vietnam) touting the bipartisan "Domino Effect" gone neoconservative coporatist, the US Democrat* Party has become the left arm of the bipartisan "shared values" Fascist Party of America. "Corporations are people, too." /Remind Steinbeck. *For example, Obama's administration "One Voice" is not democratic.

Nice to see that in the comments people are ripping the intent of the story apart.

Two days after this happened, this guy gets a media colonoscopy.  Eight months after Benghazi, they still don't see what the big deal is.

370 Regarding the latest headline; the one about a conservative attacking conservatives. It was part of National Review's Morning Jolt, and I replied to them thusly:

"Pete Wehner wonders if conservatives have forgotten, or lost interest, in the value of community:"

Conservatives do not do not do not DO NOT believe that the "government is the only thing we do together."

Community to conservatives is much more than the government. By and large, not only have we not forgotten or lost interest in the non-governmental parts of community, our outrage is directed at the fact that the government seems hell-bent on invading every previously non-governmental community sphere.

Truth be told, conservatives are the real defenders of community because of the fact that what we oppose is "Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State."
