— Gabriel Malor Friday, woooooooo!
Rick Santorum would really like for 2016 to be his "turn" as the GOP candidate.
For funsies, Chris Jacobs for Heritage smacks around Ezra Klein for his silly little protestations that Obamacare isn't raising the price of health insurance.
Philip Klein also has a must-read column on Obamacare rate shock, that I summarize: "Obamacare is a wealth transfer from the young (who haven't had time to accumulate much wealth) to the old (who have)."
If you think the first step of the Gang of 8 bill -- legalization of aliens already present -- is "amnesty," then hold on to your pants, because Sen. Ted Cruz supports "amnesty." "If this amendment is adopted to the current bill, the effect would be that those 11 million under this current bill would still be eligible for RPI [registered provisional immigrant] status. They would still be eligible for legal status. And indeed under the terms of the bill they would be eligible for LPR [lawful permanent resident] status, as well, so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their objective."
Finally, with respect to the NSA scandals, the Guardian has finally joined WaPo and admitted that its original reporting on the scope of PRISM was flawed. To read the grudging, passive-aggressive admission, though, you'd have to make it all the way to the 18th paragraph here.

I for one would welcome an immigration enforcement bill that would actually encourage them to go hide in the shadows. Would sure make my job a hell of a lot easier.

Hello, all.
Marlene Dietrich was a thorough professional in her career. On sets, she was always on time, knew her lines and endured take after take without complaint. At personal appearances, she was always “on,” perfectly mannered and dressed. Clothes, in fact, were an integral part of her image; audiences paid to see her well dressed and Dietrich did not want to let them down.
Madame Ginette Spanier, director of a Paris fashion house, found this out the hard way. As often as not, when Dietrich tried on a new outfit and said, “I’ll take it,” the alterations had just begun. Once, after remaking the lining of a jacket for Dietrich six times, the couturier couldn’t control herself any longer. “Miss Dietrich,” she said, “the people are going to be looking at you. And your legs. They are not going to notice a pleat on the right side of your bust. And if they do, that means the film will be a flop anyway.”
“Ah,” Dietrich replied, “but if, in twenty years’ time, my daughter should supervise a reshowing of my films, she would notice the pleat and think that Mother had lost her touch.”
Madame Spanier had no answer to that. She remade the lining a seventh time.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Surrounded by sleigh bell-ringing Santa Claus impersonators, Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday signed a law protecting Christmas and other holiday celebrations in Texas public schools from legal challenges - but also stressed that freedom of religion is not the same thing as freedom from religion.
“Santa Claus impersonators” how do you impersonate a fictitious character? Sorry Virginia if you are still around.

Don't over-worry about it. If you follow the link down to therightscoop, whoever they are, you get this from the blogger:
"Now if you happen to believe that temp legal status is amnesty, as some of you have suggested, then I guess that means Ted Cruz supports amnesty.
But thatÂ’s not what it is. It isnÂ’t amnesty. ItÂ’s temporary legal status that canÂ’t move on to permanent legal residency status without the border being secured."
So, it's a pro-amnesty supporter trying the ol' "but Reagan said this one timel" head fake.

Apologies for breaking my "no posting after a story" rule, but a question was asked: Was this the daughter she forced to share a bedroom with a big old dyke who raped her?
Yes, Maria Riva. As well as the rape, Dietrich hired a lesbian nanny who also tried to seduce her. Riva, in her memoir Marlene Dietrich, believes her mother was trying to turn her into a lesbian, so she would never have to share Riva's love with another man. This is also the same daughter whom Dietrich forced to be fit with a diaphragm before traveling to Germany after the war.
Back to radio silence.

When you speak in vague terms and throw out every make and manner of red meat to your followers, you will get some right. Beck is just like Rush. He spouts off about lots and lots of things, primarily to hear himself speak. He says things that he knows his followers will agree with, so they praise him as a genius and prophet. No one will ever convince me that I need to listen to one, single thing he has to say.

Sen. Ted Cruz introduced an amendment to the current immigration bill back in May that would have removed the path to citizenship from the bill completely.
The very first line of the article linked. This is like when Gabe wanted to claim that major GOP donors were going to start pushing for gay marriage and his proof was a PAC that was created to push gay marriage.
Because you know pointing out that every single one of Cruz's amendments was rejected by the Gang of 8 might not allow you to arrive at the "correct" conclusion.

Beck has some good researchers, I will give him that. However, he likes to be the center of attention and is prone to the very unattractive trait of mail jealousy.
Hence his constant snark about Palin while on Fox, and his unreasonably virulent dislike of George Bush (WAY early in his term).
The politics of envy also exists in the media. I don't like him, either. In fact, I tried his subscription channel for one week, until he featured an un-funny comeian who did nothing but insult Palin. So I cancelled.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer muscled her way to victory in her crusade for Medicaid expansion Thursday, outmaneuvering conservative opposition to push through a key piece of President Barack ObamaÂ’s agenda.
Over the objection of Republican legislative leaders, a coalition of moderate Republicans and Democrats sent Brewer a bill on Thursday, extending Medicaid to an estimated 300,000 low-income uninsured Arizonans, transforming the state into the unlikeliest of Obamacare allies at a critical time for the White House.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush made the argument for immigration reform Thursday, both in private at a closed-door meeting of House Republicans and at a Bipartisan Policy Center discussion.
“I personally think we need to do this for policy reasons,” Bush said. “Republicans need to be for this because it’s good policy. Democrats need to be for this because it’s good policy…The reason isn’t for good politics but for good policy.”

Neither Rush nor Beck do a single thing to help advance conservatism. Everything they do is about them. Every time they say or do something stupid, it gives people another excuse to think conservatives are idiots and out of step with America. They are the televangelists of the conservative movement. They may be sincere in their beliefs, but their antics not only discredit their messages but ours as well.
Look at Rush's drug problem. It really makes you look foolish to preach about how the Left is destroying America's morals while mixing Oxy with your Cheerios. Not only was Rush a hypocrite in people's minds so was every other conservative. We have enough fools in Congress making us look bad. We don't need fools with microphones doing the same thing on a wider scale.

He's is saying PRISM is a NSA tap in the fiber optic trunks immediately upstream from the where it enters the company in question.
The NSA is copying the data going to the company involved by splitting the optic stream (light), thus the term PRISM.
Gibson says the companies probably don't know it's being done.
That is also what Snowden said the other day in his interview with the South China Morning Post, they tap into thebackbones:
<i>"We hack network backbones - like huge internet routers, basically - that give us access to the communications of hundreds of thousands of computers without having to hack every single one," Mr Snowden said.</i>
http://tinyurl.com/msoz5la
I think the phrase "direct access to servers" is the point that's causing confusion. I not sure if Snowden said that or if that what was on the NSA powerpoint that was published.
The bottom line is if they have the data via the tap it doesn't make any difference if they have access to the 'server'.

The proponents of the bill objective is to get the aliens out of the shadows.
Bullshit.
Where the hell do these proponents live? These aliens are everywhere. Have the proponents ever been to a Wal-Mart? To an emergency room? A Home DePot? A liquor store? They are everywhere and dragging five kids behind them. The only time they hide is when they have a car wreck, they leave the "buy here pay here" car on the road and run away because they don't have a dimes worth of insurance and more than likely have been drinking. And the government knows where they are because they send them their food stamp cards. They are not living in the shadows. They even have their own personal health care lady at the hospital that steers them into her office to fill out their special papers for their free healthcare. This is all crap. I blame the people in this country that hire them as much as the stupid federal government for them being here in the first place. And the proponents don't want them out of the fake shadows, they want them in our voting booths. This is not their country and they should have NO say so who gets elected. And if anyone wants to see them "out of the shadows" just let La Raza call a protest.

Posted by: Captain Hate at June 14, 2013 07:54 AM (6EQbW)
I was and am a tremendous supporter of Sarah Palin, as I hope I've proven here a hundred times. However, that doesn't mean whatever her position is on every issue I automatically adopt.
My support for her is based on character. I believe she's intelligent, honest and courageous, which are the attributes I look for in elected officials. Just as I believe her heart and head are in the right place, I also believe others are on the side of conservatives - like Rubio, Toomey, Ryan and various other targets of the purists here.
Palin is religious, I'm not. Palin alerted the country as to "Death Panels", but didn't explain what her solution was. I'm for death panels, because I recognized that they are the conservative position as opposed to milking taxpayers to provide unlimited healthcare to everyone regardless of common sense.
Just because I have a different approach to certain issues doesn't mean I don't support the person. Every issue should be discussed and argued out instead of being shouted down by unthinking knee-jerk reactionaries.

Palin was under no responsibility to explain what her solution was because she was alerting people to a real problem with a proposed law which you are blindly refusing to see the consequences of because you have some dipshit scenario stuck in your empty head and project that on to everything else. Considering we are about 90-100 trillion in debt, I guess 17 trillion would be good policy. Unless you want to add the latter to the former.
Then that would be called GENIUS policy.
Posted by: J.J. Sefton at June 14, 2013 08:14 AM (+98Gb)
The $17 trillion is the current value of the debt. The $90-100 trillion (in reality, closer to $120 trillion) is the current-dollar value of unfunded liabilities extending out over the next 75 years. The former can't be repudiated. Much of the latter will be, mostly after most of the Boomers have died off.

I'm open to any solution you can articulate. I've told you why Palin and I differ on the issue of death panels and explained why I believe they are needed.
If there is some other solution, I haven't heard it. Lay out how you think things should work and if it sounds better I'll support it.

Let me preface this by saying I am not insulting anyone.
There is a saying I once read that can apply in this situations: "Just because someone agrees with you doesn't make you right. It just means there's someone else out there as stupid as you."
There is a phenomenon related to human behavior that has been studied and discussed by learned people. If you believe in someone, you will tend to remember when they are right and forget when they are wrong. This happens to people of all shapes and sizes and beliefs. We build a mound of evidence to support them and ignore evidence to the contrary. That's how people can remember that Beck is right all the time and forget the times he was wrong. It happens. Think about how we can't understand how people can faithfully tune in to MSNBC when we know how wrong they are. Those people can ignore the times MSNBC is wrong and focus on the times they believe them to be right. They think the same thing about FoxNews and its viewers. It's not right or wrong; it's just human nature.

I agree with you. Seems to me to be a lot of word parsing and clutching at straws going on.
I looked a as GS job overseas a few years ago. c. 65K salary, but when I added up HOLA, exrtra curricular, etc it would have been over 100K. 200k after benefits and overtime, especially considering IT, isn't a stretch.<p>
The no SF claim is parsing, too, AFAIK. If he was an 18X enlistment (X is x-ray in the NATO alphabet, but some people think it meant he wnated to be a x-ray technician), then he got to try out for SF, no guarantees. He got hurt somewere before he qualified through, but he definitely could have enlisted 18X. He could have tested through to waive the GED or been allowed to take course work after the fact, so I don't think that isn't as big an issue as some are making it out to be.
Parsing and wordsmithing about the messenger.

Last time I rubbed fenders with a car here, the guy kept going. So I went after him and flagged him down. We both got out of our cars and I offered to exchange insurance information. He then informed me he was in a gang and I should just get back in my car if I didn't want to get shot. Words to that effect.

I don't care if he pops Oxy like Chiclets. Don't rail against the other side's transgressions while you are doing some of the same things. Was it fair that all conservatives got painted with the hypocrisy brush because of it? No, it wasn't. Did it happen? Absolutely. The media looks for every excuse they can to discredit conservative positions. It helps no one when we pour gasoline on the fire to help them stoke it.

Do you think it can work in the opposite direction? 'Just because someone agrees with you doesn't make you wrong. It just means that there's someone else out there who has come to the same conclusion.'
The point is that when you have an argument and have to stick to fact, not manipulating words, using hyperbole, presenting strawmen arguments or just outright fucking lying, then the truth becomes evident pretty quickly.

I've given up hope we'll avoid amnesty in any shape or form.
As I've said repeatedly, we're a country ruled by emotion (which is how the Dims hold the senate and the White House.)
Emotion says "you can't deport Grandma!" (even though it's nothing like that, but hey, emotion!)
So any bill that doesn't include some form of amnesty is going to get howled at by the emotion driven LIVs.
It's sad, it really is.

Yep. Another amendment Cruz submitted that Rubio and his fellow cocksuckers voted down.

An autocracy. Get into the right colleges, mouth the right platitudes, don't make no waves, don't back no losers, and you can be a member of the patrician caste. Forget this "rule of law" nonsense: what matters now is who you are and who you know.
As for us plebes, our "betters" are importing a new working class - one that will work for less, vote as they're told, and STFU.

Obama Admin Considers Resettling Thousands of Syrian Refugees in U.S.
Breitbart: http://tiny.cc/ls7nyw
The Obama administration is considering resettling thousands of refugees who left Syria during the country's ongoing civil war to multiple towns and cities across the United States, the L.A. Times reports.
A resettlement plan under discussion in Washington and other capitals is aimed at relieving pressure on Middle Eastern countries straining to support 1.6 million refugees, as well as assisting hard-hit Syrian families.
The State Department is "ready to consider the idea," an official from the department said, if the administration receives a formal request from the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, which is the usual procedure.
The United States usually accepts about half the refugees that the U.N. agency proposes for resettlement. California has historically taken the largest share, but Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia are also popular destinations...
Sure, why not? Why do we even bother pretending to have any kind of immigration law at all?
You know what? If the gubmint were smart they'd say "No," and then work out a deal with mexico to take our "share" of the refugees. Then they could just ship them over the border to be legalized via amnesty! Tada!

You do understand that this is the exact same thing that the Left says about conservative commentators and FoxNews?

@ 70 jwest - "It's pretty obvious that Cruz reads the comments at AoSHQ. He was probably against legalization at first, but after reading my comments he changed his mind."
Give Ted Cruz more credit than that. He's not a weak-minded idiot, after all.

<i>Santorum needs to STFU and go back to wherever dipshit Howdie Doody candidates go once their quixotic runs come to their inevitable demise. Who in their right mind would consider that fuckhead as President when they're not trying to forstall some squish like Romney? And take Jebby with you.</i>
Frankly, Santorum has a point, reading the linked article. We need someone who can articulate supply-side economics for the working classes.
