That's common sense; the additional risks accrued by driving a laboring woman around in a vehicle at x miles per hour in low risk pregnancies is greater than any of the risks the hovering team of drug and machine dispensers can avert.
You don't need a study to figure out that it's better for a healthy woman to not enter the place full of sick people to have a healthy baby.
It is nice to not be too far from a hospital in case complications do occur.

The difference in life or death for a mother or an infant with an unexpected complication is often minutes. Assuming the best times of an ambulance arriving with paramedics who know what to do plus rapid transport to a close-by hospital, it wouldn't be enough time for some situations.
For thousands of years childbirth was relegated to the home with care done by midwives who were not medically trained. It was only in the late 19th century that doctors even deigned to care for delivering women. Long arguments and battles went on for decades to get women proper care.
I am firmly opposed to home births because of the dangers. I had a friend who almost bled out in the delivery room, and if she had been at home she would have died. I have seen babies saved from almost insurmountable problems because they got quick attention.
You can have a child in a hospital without any drugs. I did it twice. You only are now required to stay overnight. Many hospitals (including our local Catholic hospital) have home-like suites for labor and delivery, so that you are in a more family-like environment.
This is my two cents, but I beg morons to consider the health of the baby before deciding on a home birth.

As opposed to a tale out of rural Texas. Of a man and a woman in a mobile home who wanted natural childbirth at home. Of her going into labor as a severe rainstorm washed out the dirt road leading to the mobile home. The man lacking a four wheel drive vehicle as she developed complications and the ambulance being incapable of crossing the stream that cut through the road. Of a member of the family driving to the home in their 4x4 to rescue the mother and bring her to the ambulance. Thence the ambulance whisking the mother to hospital for a safe delivery. At least there was a happy ending.

About 20 years ago, a couple pregnant with their first child bought the house next door. The guy was a nice, normal guy. The wife was nice but she was also a hippie, left wing, environmentalist whacko. She wanted to have the baby at home. They took the front room of their house (complete with large bay window) and converted it into a birthing room. She wanted to have the baby in that room with the curtains open so that she could see the outdoors during the birth. He wanted the baby born in a hospital. She compromised and agreed to close the curtains.
Late one evening around her due date, there were several cars at the house at the house. He had said when I saw that it meant the baby was being born and it was the midwives. The next morning, everyone was gone but so were they. The midwives couldn't deliver the baby, so she ended up going to the hospital. He got to pay the midwives AND the hospital.
On a side note, she wouldn't let him use any kind of pesticides on the yard. IT drove him crazy seeing weeds. One day he told me that if I saw him with a big tank of Ortho strapped to his back, I need to call mental health professionals because it meant he had finally lost it and was about to hose down his yard with it.

If the birth is low risk, home birth is fine. It's better if you have a registered nurse midwife (the midwives do a better job than the f'in doctors, sorry, but it's true.)
Hospital births are just simply... not the best. When they make you adopt your own child for a fee at the hospital, you will see how home birth becomes the statement of political resistance to the security state that it really is.

There are technically no technical limitations for a sysadmin. The only limitations are his knowledge of the software installed to prevent him from accessing everything that he inherently has access to. Keyloggers for instance are software, and unless they are in ROM, i.e. in the firmware of the keyboard, a sysadmin can and will disable them. In fact, smart techs could disable them as well.
The fact is, like those three NSA vets said, they aren't really interested in limiting themselves to protect people's privacy. They want max power and discretion with max CYA through 'good policy'. While we contractors for other parts of the government struggle with agencies that try to break our software in every way, NOT FOLLOWING THEIR TRAINING, NSA just yawns and says, oh yeah, we have rules against that, they can't do that.

Coupla thoughts on Christie:
First, a lot of those NE "favorable" adults will never vote for the GOP in the WH. And I mean NEVER. Maybe he could win NJ, but it's a whole different ballgame for Pres. Ala Scott Walker as gov. and yet WI goes for Pres. by a fairly good margin.
Second, there are a lot of moderately overweight people in America. Therefore, they really like seeing a REALLY FAT guy to compare themselves to. Makes us all feel better.

No it isn't. Home birth is how people had kids for 99% of human history. For supposedly being conservative, many people certainly switch into braindead prog mode when it comes to hospital births.
Just because some Gaia worshiping prigs stumbled onto something conservative doesn't mean it suddenly becomes a hippie thing.
Anyway, useless to argue with women about this. All of them are maximally proprietary about their opinion regarding pregnancy, child bearing and child rearing. They get their opinion set and forget it; they will never change it.
What's stupid is the idea that a home birth is inherently safer no matter the risk level of the pregnancy. I'd never argue this, nor is that 'study'. The Gaia-worshipers think it is, and given (as I said) how easy it is to change a woman's opinion about childbirth, this conversation or debate is a totally lost cause.

2 brothers, one sister, three nieces born at home. The first brother was born accidentally at home and delivered by Dad b/c they couldn't get to the hospital in time, and after that experience and another one born in the hospital Mom decided that home was better. Second brother born with the cord around his throat but the doctor took care of him quickly enough that there was no damage - hard to imagine a hospital doing better.
So you can take your accusations of Luddism, upper class trendiness, and government propaganda and shove 'em.

It is nice to not be too far from a hospital in case complications do occur.

My DIL had to go 25 miles to have her babies. And if there were complications it would have meant either ambulance or Life Flight service, another big expense on the bill.

the lowered rate of infant mortality is linked not to hospital births (something early feminists wanted so they wouldn't have to experience the pains and difficulties of childbirth) but to sanitation during labor. That's not hospital-related but science related.
So the answer is, hospitals have little to do with it.

Is there any way that parents can give a lawyered letter to the school stating that no parental rights are being waived by sending the kid to school, and that the parent REQUIRES that the school notify the parents BEFORE any questioning or corrective action is taken (given that we don't trust the schools to behave rationally any longer)?

It's a trick question dependent on several things.
But for the vast majority of acute illnesses, outcomes are better at the home after initial outpatient treatment at the hospital if needed (to do things like set bones.)
Generally speaking the lest time you spend in a hospital the better. The rare exception may be things like the early stages of cancer treatment where the medicine requires close observation, a few drug changes (like seizure meds if you do a washout.) etc.

Still - that's a whole lot of theft. Either the attendees were personally redistributing wealth among themselves, or more honest thieves were at work. Either way, the totals suggest a complete breakdown in basic security.
Wonder how it compares to the GOP convention theft/loss reports.

Yeah the data on "home" is cherry-picked so heavily you could make a pie out of it.
When everything goes correctly they're about equal.
It's that "everything correctly" part that gets all screwy (as you pointed out.) Sure we've been giving birth at home for thousands of years. Also we've had a much higher child mortality rate.
The Home data...uhh...advoates, tend to take their best cases and compare them to a hospital's worst cases.
Having said that, the hospital system needed some improvements to avoid the "too much medicine" problem (epitomized by the Monty Python "machine that goes Boop")
But largely we've figured that out I think. (Although given that hospitals here now have Birthing Pools and "soothing lights and aromatherapy" I feel we may have jumped to far in the opposite direction there.)

Firstly, you'd note I said "outpatient."
You'd be fucking surprised how often hospitals want to make everything inpatient these days. I was making a very specific point.
I have a M-I-L with ataxia from a brain injury years ago. She fell down (predictable) we took her in to make sure her hip wasn't broken.
It should have been an outpatient case. Instead they admitted her.
It did not go well. Between the medication mix ups and her inability to safely get to the bathroom, we may have been worse off than when she went in.
Also I said "for certain things." (namely those things you can't do at home easily like set bones.) There are actually cases where home treatment is better as a first line of defense than going to a hospital at all. If memory serves they're trying to lower kids hospital trips for Asthma attacks by giving them nebulizers and making home the first line treatment, because the outcomes are better. (which was my point. There's a narrow, and increasingly shrinking set of things for which you have to go to the hospital because the equipment and skill simply isn't available anywhere else. For most other things, your outcomes are the same or better if you avoid the hospital. In either case, you want to minimize hospital time as much as possible.)
Also it does depend on what you mean by "hospital."
For things like stitches these days (that aren't on a critical area of the hand or the face) you're best bet is probably an urgent care clinic. (Which for the purposes of stats may not be a hospital.)

There's a thin window of time immediately after childbirth where the shit can still go wrong. Also inducing stress by trying to flee in the middle of the night isn't really healthy either.
But yes, as I study more about nosocomial infections, I do think that perhaps the new guidelines towards post-birth hospital stays make more sense than people originally thought. I think part of the problem is people associate "hospital" with "rest and recovery." So being discharged so quickly was seen as uncaring and harmful. But frankly hospitals aren't a place for rest and recovery anymore, but we probably need to get a little better at making the post-partum home fit that need.
(I'd note that C-sections have an entirely different set of complications and need to be considered separately. I mean it's abdominal surgery, there are a whole host of crazy things.)
