Ugh. Second verse, same as the first.

I will be up and back in time for the Supreme Court to issue decisions at 10AM. There are 14 decisions left in the term. Possible topics today include affirmative action in colleges, section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, DOMA, and Prop 8.

6 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, June 20, 2013.  On this day in 1782 the US Congress adopted the Great Seal of The United States replete with the Masonic emblems.

9 I want to know if the left is pulling an astroturf on this immigration bill like they did with campaign finance. That was the deal where they convinced the Senate of a reality that was pure BS by writing letters to their home town papers, financing studies, etc. It sure seems that way. How else do you explain these guys not getting that open borders will destroy the country in so many ways...

CA has already passed a law to kiss the ass of the insane animal “rights” activists to increase the size of cages for egg laying chickens.  This law even applies to out of State farms that want to sell eggs in CA.  Basically it is in effect a blockage trade between States and what the Commerce Clause of the Constitution was originally written for.  An Iowa congressman is proposing an amendment to the farm bill to stop this stupidity.  I assume they are removing the stupid requirement the Senate put in there for ALL the US for the same thing.  Personally I would rather see the egg association sue to see if the courts will interpret the commerce clause as it was originally intended.  Except from the article it appears that at least one egg association has joined forces with the idiots.

28 FL “Mental Health” Gun bill goes to governor for signature.  It passed with bipartisan support.  I am against it and it appears the NRA supports it.  HereÂ’s the gist of what the article says.

The legislation requires people who volunteer for mental health treatment to give up their gun rights. Mental health professionals want Gov. Rick Scott to veto the legislation.

Snip

Supporters said the bill will only cover people who would otherwise be committed under the Baker Act. Commitment requires a diagnosis of mental illness and is considered harmful to themselves or others.

Where is the adjudication by a court?  That has always been the case in the past when giving up rights under the Constitution.   Make no mistake, other States will look at this and move in that direction also.

And before you try and torch me, I was not born prior to 1865, I do not have a battle flag flying on the front porch nor did I marry any of my 5 sisters or half a dozen or so female cousins.

I'm simply tired of seeing a federal judges hand involved in everything related to voting here when the bullshit they so piously say they are trying to prevent from happening is found in abundance in states above the Mason/Dixon line.

AFP - The US government's secret seizure of Associated Press phone records had a "chilling effect" on newsgathering by the agency and other news organizations, AP's top executive said Wednesday.

"Some longtime trusted sources have become nervous and anxious about talking with us," AP president and chief executive Gary Pruitt said in a speech to the National Press Club.

"In some cases, government employees we once checked in with regularly will no longer speak to us by phone. Others are reluctant to meet in person ... This chilling effect on newsgathering is not just limited to AP.

I think TFG was throwing a bone to the Germans.

I live in Germany. For some reason the Germans are anal about nukes, be it power plants or weapons.

The German's are pissed about the NSA stuff because they have very strict privacy laws. Obama just offered up a nuke proposal to take the edge off that.

Just my opinion.

RE: The Egg Bill  California voted to put their egg farmers out of business with Prop 2 in 2008, then Gov. Aaaarnold passed a law that any eggs sold in CA must meet the same standards, effectively forcing neighboring states to comply with CA stupid law.  It has nearly forced CA farmers out of the egg business.

The United Egg Producers (UEP) who claims 85% of U.S. egg marketers as members wants a standard set so that animal rights groups like HSUS cannot demagogue an issue and get a ballot prop forced through in other states, which they threaten all the time.

HSUS promises if the egg bill is agreed to that they will leave the U.S. caged egg business alone (snort).   Only about 1/2 of UEP members agree to the deal the UEP made with the HSUS. Plus other farm groups like the swine and cattle ranchers are pushing against it, too.  They know if HSUS wins this round they will now have swine and cattle in their sights (which they already do).

This compromise is stupid, because as all morons know, making any deal with the left will not hold.

Right. And farmers are easy to pick on. You just post some edited video of a poor wittle chicken all behind bars and ask the voters if this is humane. They vote "no".

What the hell do they know?  Chickens are perfectly cared for in cages.  It is better for the health of the chicken, the quality of the egg and production for the markets.  (You need 10x the space to provide eggs cage free and the chickens peck around in their own manure.)

The USA, with the exception of some islands in the Aleutians, was never invaded in WWII. We did not suffer ~twenty million casualties after being invaded by Hitlers troops. The Russians have a different perspective. They're never gonna give up their 'big boomers' but they'll gladly let Obama unilaterally surrender ours. 155 By the way Vic,

You are wrong about trials and giving up rights. Family courts, which hold to almost no evidentiary rules, can strip you of your gun rights under VAWA.

156 Good that the Supreme Court is handing down its decisions. As a mere pleb, I look forward to seeing what my culture and social compact are now expected to be, since in the modern America, the people do not determine them, but Hollywood, law school faculty, and the Huffington Post do.  Sort of a noblese oblige on their part, a service to us great unwashed. I thus await the commands of the Court.

I am afraid this will not be a case of rates going up, or not "just" rates going up.  It will be a case of blackouts.

However, since the utilities will try to replace some of the power with very expensive IC turbine which is normally only used for weather peaking, yes you can expect to see some stiff bills in addition to blackouts.

221 Taking a ban risk here. Lifted from NRO this a.m.:
------
In Investor’s Business Daily, Betsy McCaughey notes that Washington has given just shy of a billion dollars to California “to set up its insurance exchange”. That’s not chump change, even in Obama’s America. So what’s it been spent on? “Outreach “:

California lawmakers passed a law (Senate Bill 35) requiring that voter registration be part of the health insurance exchange.

Last month, Covered California announced $37 million in grants to 48 organizations to build public awareness about the opening of the health exchange on Oct. 1.

Of the 48 organizations that got grants, only a handful are health-care related. The California NAACP received $600,000 to do door-to-door canvassing and presentations at community organizations.

Service Employees International Union, which says its mission is “economic justice,” received two grants totaling $2 million to make phone calls, robo-calls and go door to door.

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO got $1 million for door-to-door, one-on-one education and social networking. It describes its role as “engaging in both organizing and political campaigns, electing pro-union and pro-worker candidates.”

ObamaCare wonÂ’t add a single doctor or nurse or even hospital janitor, but it does divert staggering sums of money to Democratic Party interest groups entirely unrelated to health care, and thatÂ’s what matters.

The sailors were all interviewed, and shockingly none remembered launching an anti-aircraft missile at an American civilian flight.

But an SA-14 from a small craft .... hmmm

Posted by: Jean at June 20, 2013 04:14 AM (CMlD4)

233 For one thing Pierre Salinger claimed it was a US Navy ship that shot down TWA Flt 800 almost before they pulled the wreckage in.  This is how long that theory has been out there.  Which makes more sense since the SM-2 has greater range and larger warhead than an Sa-7b or FIM-92.

Where this theory stumbles is, would any sailor on a US Navy ship that even accidentally shot a civilian airliner down keep their mouth shut?  Especially after all these years.  Remember when USS Vincennes accidentally show down that Iranian airliner.

Sa-7b has a 1.5Kg warhead.  FIM-92 has a 3Kg warhead.  And both would go for engines.    Flt 800 was not fully fueled or filled with passengers so was nowhere near max take off weight.  It was ascending.  Each engine is on a pylon and widely separated from each other.  So there would be a very good chance the crew would note an engine failed, go through shut down checklist, notify the tower, and return.

Here is what a 747 can survive and still have time to call in an emergency before crashing.

Who gets to define 'crazy'?

How often do conservatives make the claim that liberalism is a mental illness?

So no liberal should be allowed to own a gun? (As if conservatives have control of government.)

So how do you disarm a crazy person? The founders of the United States thought the best governance was local governance and that the federal government should be limited. So we should implement 'gun control' the way it is done in Chicago, and NYC.

Bill Clinton who just ate a shit sandwich a few years earlier over blackhawk down incident. 2) any Terrorist activity at the time? Yep, they just requested permission to go to 15K feet. 5) 200+ witnesses who saw misslie trail never interviewed or asked to testify? Yep. Not sure if it's true or not but possible? Yep.

the cancellation of Yucca Mtn is almost certainly an illegal act as it went against the laws passed by Congress surrounding high level radioactive waste disposal. And obamas plan is to basically restart from the beginning. So 25 years or so of studies and engineering down the drain. At least there is some hope from the doe that we'll get into spent fuel reprocessing.

The reason Yucca is so important is that nuclear waste is being stored on site at the nuclear plants. And several plants are running out of storage room

290 IIRC, miraculously most of the wreckage of flight 800, even down to very small pieces, was recovered and reconstructed in a hangar on Long Island. The conclusion was that faulty wiring, or rather the insulation from wiring inside a fuel tank had scraped off from chafing against a raw metal surface within the tank. As fuel is used up in flight, pumps will transfer fuel from tank to tank to keep the plane's center of gravity from shifting. The conclusion was that a spark from a segment of stripped wire caused fuel or fumes in an empty tank to explode when the pilot flipped the fuel pump switch.

302 Vic. I know the Captain thought the plane was on an attack run. And not an Iranian airliner on a scheduled flight. There was a chain of events and wrong decisions that lead to a horrible accident.

I was there, on Forrestal. Still not convinced it wasn't on an attack run. In fact, I've always thought that, and the events of 9/11/01 haven't done a thing to convince me otherwise. (FWIW, Ronald Reagan was President at the time.)

And now I really am out. Later roonz and roonettez!

305 I recall that no one was ready to meet all the kids that Iran said were on-board. I would not put it above them to pack the plane with kids.

Any news on the FBI guy that went missing in Iran?

306 Hey TR!  Did you hear about that "party mansion" on WRAL that was shut down?  Some couple decides to turn their $2 million dollar mansion into teh Playboy mansion-lite.  They advertised parties on local radio stations and internet.  The other homeowners had no idea, and they come home to tons of cars parked in front of their homes, blocking the streets, bouncers, and lots of pointy elbows sprawled all over the front and back yards.

Oh, and the couple that owned the house have records for fraud.  And they are also part of a minority group, so this story just checked the race card box too.  The husband supposedly defrauded medicare.

309 I live 40 minutes outside of Atlanta, GA. My realtor told me that the appraisers are not supposed to use more than 2 foreclosures when figuring comps. There have only been a couple of other sales in my area, so I was doomed from the beginning, I guess. There were only 28 houses total for sale in my zip code in my price range. Mine is in the top three as far as condition and location, which is why I had a buyer. Another real estate agent I know said that the banks are fixing to release another wave of foreclosures soon. I will be here until the day I die, buried in the back yard next to the cat.

316 Do not believe Navy shot down TWA 800. I do believe terrorist bomb took it down. I think Algerians. There were concurrent train bombings in France. French head of intelligence was on the plane. It was terrorism directed at France, not us. They passed major antiterror legislation afterward. Why did the Clinton administration push for that if it was an accident?

I live sort of close to that area and pass by it sometimes.  From reading the comments, it sounded like the house was under construction for a long time and stopped for a period of time, probably during the crash.  It was closed for just a hair under $900k, down from $2 million.  Oh yeah, the couple are both delinquent on their property taxes, as well as their vehicle taxes as well.  That wakegov site is the shizzle for looking up info!

And oh yeah, here are some pointy elbows from one of the parties...

321 Who gets to define 'crazy'?

Posted by: Skandia Recluse at June 20, 2013 08:18 AM
=========================================================

Well they will probably use the DSM which is the manual for diagnosis.  It has over 400 mental disorders listed, some are essentially duplicates (for example they divide up addictions by substance.)
Some are pretty harmless to others like Dyslexia,  stuttering, Pica(eating dirt and rocks), Parkinson's, Bulimia and Anorexia, and my personal favorite...Dyscalculia which is difficulty learning and understanding  arithmetic.  You can find them all under list of mental disorders.
So I guess it would be up to the pyschdoc to decide, which could get very interesting, considering I've heard conflicting testimony from psychs in court.

325 It would not necessarily have been climbing in a controlled manner, as would have been drawn on a computer simulation. The momentum of moving at 500 MPH and then the force of the blast could have made it climb for a distance before tumbling out of the sky.

Look at it this way. If this was caused by our own government wouldn't Julian Assange or Snowden have revealed it by now?????

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at June 20, 2013 08:44 AM (+98Gb)

No  airframe  would  survive  that  to  continue  climbing,  just  not  possible.  The  plane  would   have  been  torn  apart  by  the  stress  in  seconds.  Whatever  happened  wasn't   a  center  tank  explosion.

330 I may be the only Moron that has actually worked on an egg ranch. I don't agree with animal rights activists and I don't want people from CA telling farmers how to do business. On the other hand, the cages are too damn small and the chickens were fed so little calcium that their legs would break when we pulled them out of the cages to replace them with younger chickens. I think this could achieve this easier by just encouraging people to buy eggs from producers with larger cages.
