Happy Monday.

Leakers are saying the Chinese government made the decision to let Edward Snowden go after hoovering the contents of the four laptops he took to Hong Kong, of course. Oh, and reporters are tweeting that they're on the Aeroflot from Moscow to Cuba . . . but Snowden isn't. Durrr.

Once again, the Supreme Court is going to issue decisions at 10am. There are 11 left to go this term, including affirmative action at colleges, section 5 of the VRA, section 3 of DOMA, and Prop 8. Although, as my pal Chris Geidner points out, when you get down to it the justices could dodge the central issue in all four big cases, if they choose.

19 Justice at last

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that lawyers Dick Harpootlian and Cam Lewis of Columbia, Gedney Howe III of Charleston and Michael Spears of Spartanburg were possibly in violation of federal law when they obtained thousands of driversÂ’ records from the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles to help them in an ongoing consumer protection lawsuit against hundreds of car dealers around the state.

Recall that Dick Harpootlian is the outspoken former head of the SC Democrat Party and a major asshole.   Will he get a free trip to the greybar hotel?  I doubt it.  They havenÂ’t really ruled that he violated the law yet.

So,  Snowden wasn't on the plane to Cuba?  Well,  what a surprise.  As I pointed out to a reporter yesterday,  he's not going to telegraph his every movement to the press,  for personal safety.

It's very hard to completely disappear,  but he's making a good start.  I make no comment on Snowden's merits or faults,  but there is a small part of me that is satisfied at seeing the press look like chumps.

84 SCOTUS decisions and the House vote on Shamnesty should indicate if there is anything resembling a viable free Republic left in short order. I hesitate to to even consider what future voting may offer in terms of solutions or choices for that matter. If DC were to suddenly disappear in some sort of alien snatching exercise my views might shift a bit. But most aliens are busy on cable and overnight radio.

89 OUTSOURCING IN CHINA. US factory boss held hostage four days by workers in Beijing Chip Starnes, 42, a co-owner of Coral Springs, Florida-based Specialty Medical Supplies, said local officials had visited the 10-year-old plant on the capital's outskirts and coerced him into signing agreements Saturday to meet the workers' demands even though he sought to make clear that the remaining 100 workers weren't being laid off. 80 of them had been blocking every exit around the clock and depriving him of sleep by shining bright lights and banging on windows of his office. "I feel like a trapped animal," Starnes told The Associated Press on Monday from his first-floor office window, while holding onto the window's bars. "I think it's inhumane what is going on right now. I have been in this area for 10 years and created a lot of jobs and I would never have thought in my wildest imagination something like this would happen." By LOUISE WATT, My Way News

90 Good for you, Sven, I always expect to see my name on the most frequent poster too (I work PT) so have more time, but am glad when I don't see it. :^) This place can be addictive. I just know it's better to take some time off when people either get so angry they're likely to have apoplexy, and too many people here and elsewhere need folks here to be well , or so despairing that they just want to sit in a corner and cry. The Bible affirms rough, rough times for many folks throughout history, but the prophets challenge them, sometimes give them the what for and still give them hope despite that. And it't amazing how much better one can feel when you do the equivalent of "smelling the roses" One needs to do that to have the energy to continue the journey. It's called Sabbath. Be well, man.

110 Nelson Mandela is probably dead and is being held in cold storage so that Obama's Grand African Tour can coincide with his funeral.

Obama will stir up the already high level of hatred between South Africans,  and the anger and violence wil spread to other countries.

My only hope is that George Bush,  who is visiting some other countries in Africa (although he will be in Tanzania at the same time) will draw bigger crowds and speak calming words.

And the police are there to make certain that "Yankee" from Florida pays up on demand or stays in his self fashioned cage, the office. The only way for Gomez to win the election tomorrow is to bus in several million semi-intelligent, independent voters who are not stupefied by the combination of a miasma of Free Shit, Irish politics and knee-jerk support for the corrupt, lazy loser that infects the MA voter.

Markey says he's "kinda like Kennedy" and the state's No-Information Voters swoon. Only here could a murdering drunk who never did an honesty day's work in his life, broke laws with impunity and drugged himself into morbidly obese immobility be regarded as a "role model." Teddy's last wife has been stumping for Markey, too.

In other words, even an principle-free  pro-amnesty liberal can't win in MA, unless he's a member of the proper tribe and calls himself a Democrat.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at June 24, 2013 07:40 AM (+98Gb)

Mandela's wife, while he was in prison, specialized in terrorizing the opposition by placing a tire around the neck of some poor shlub, then filling the tire with gasoline and setting it on fire.  This was known as necklacing.  Mandela did not get his hands dirty with this and he divorced her.  After he came to power, he did nothing to stop the murder of White S. Africans on their farms.  Apartheid was awful, but, Mandela does not have clean hands.

It's funny how the U.S. intel apparatus and members of Congress have poo-pooh'd Snowden's access, but now the U.S. has a global hunt on for him.  And those four laptops?  I'm guessing they're props and Snowden parked the encrypted stuff on the Web somewhere.  The Chinese probably looked at them, said "Meh.." and figured "This guy's got nothing. Let's rattle the U.S.'s cage and send him over to Russia. We'll watch how they react and that'll tell us if the stuff he has is any good.  If it is, we've got a deal with Russia to get a peek at it."  The purpose of intelligence isn't to find out information.  It's to confirm what you already know.

I watch the two of them and I think wow, that freaking Communist really loves his country, and seems to at least give lip service to protecting his homeland and people. Our Communist of course does everything he can to express his disdain for our country, and could give not even one shit about the people. How awful a feeling when you find yourself unable to tell who the good guys are anymore. And I don't know how to feel about Snowden, I'm conflicted, the fact that he pissed of the right people gives me pleasure, but at the same time If he went over the line, that's not good either. Although, Is it treason when the government isn't following the rules, or is the beginning of things falling apart within the government? Is he really a douche? or Someone who felt helpless in watching what we see every day and decided to take steps to change it? I'm mean eventually, when the government, all branches turn their backs on the citizens, and the citizens start fighting back... Will they be considered law breakers if the tactics they start using are not "cool" with the government. Maybe I've had too much coffee. Sorry for the rant.

Yes Bevel, they are separate.

1.  Revealing the NSA is monitoring every phone call by every American in violation of 4th Amendment is legit whistle-blowing.

2. Running to Hong Kong and telling the Chinese what kind of intelligence the NSA is gathering on them is treason.

Neither of those is a necessary or sufficient condition for the other, ergo they are completely separate and it is perfectly consistent to praise the one and damn the other.

First of all we don't really know exactly what the NSA was up to or what they actually violated if anything. And even if they did, would you be birching as much if a conservative Republican was in the White House? And the 2 are totally separate. You just can NOT have people who work for the Military and the Intel COmmunity going around deciding on their own, what is secret and what is not. There would be mayhem and forget about any concept of security. We bitch and moan how obama is ruining America, ruining our Military, ruining the Intel Agencies but your OK with any tom, dick and harry releasing what ever tickles their fancy? 252 The Boers were Nazi sympathizers during WW II. Anyone who couldn't predict how this was going to go was just a fool. 1. The Boers (Netherlands) were in "good" company with the new King of England, forced to abdicate for making public his Nazi endorsements of policy. As for the beginnings of what we today identify as "NAZI" look again at Woodrow Wilson, the monster authoritarian and master propagandist. From the USA to Britain, and finally to Germany, it was the US Government during Wilson's administration that began officially the Eugenics Movement, and political police his G-Men thugs, one-world-government, and the "Great War" aka The War To End All Wars to establish the pecking order and the most powerful nations' King of the Mountain to dictate global policy. 2. As for not allying with Britain during WWII, why would the Boers, since Britain had not only invaded their colonization and thieved their investments, but had invented the Concentration Camps v. Boer population during their Boer War. It wasn't as if the British, in winning the Boer War, ended apartheid. There were no European power "clean hands" in Africa. And from the looks of indigenous warfare, self inflicted genocides, it's hard to find any politically motivated "clean hands" in Africa, regardless of tribal or national origin.

I think the NY Post used the wrong headline for the story about Menendez dating a married woman.

Here's their headline:

New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez wooed married woman: source

But that's not the part of the story that's most damaging, IMO.   It's this:

Sen. Robert Menendez wooed a married newspaper publisher, taking the attractive brunette on a romantic getaway to the Caribbean, a tipster alleges.

The New Jersey Dem and Cecilia Reynolds jetted to Puerto Rico, where they stayed at the isolated beach retreat of the islandÂ’s then-governor, Anibal Acevedo Vila...

..The trip came at a time when the senator was trying to thwart the appointment of Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez as the US attorney for Puerto Rico. He placed a “senatorial hold,” or block, on the appointment, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Rodriguez-Velez was the interim US attorney, and her office had turned its sights on MenendezÂ’s pal, the former Puerto Rico governor, investigating him for alleged campaign-finance violations and other wrongdoing. She was later confirmed despite the senatorÂ’s interference, and Acevedo Vila was indicted in 2008 on 19 criminal counts. He was found not guilty....

In other words,  Dickhead Menendez took his married girlfriend    on a vacation to Puerto Rico and stayed at Vila's home   AT THE SAME TIME as he was actively trying to block the appointment of a new Puerto Rican    US Attorney who was investigating Vila.

Conflict of interest much?

The married woman thing is a side issue;   a   testament to Menendez's shitty character, but we already know he's an asshole who likes to fuck underage    Dominican prostitutes.     His lack of moral fiber is      not news.    The ACTUAL     news is the blatant ethics    violations,   acceptance of gifts    and conflicts of interest, which seem to be a hallmark of this shithead's     term in office.

Our forefathers had a good answer to that back in the 18th Century. Pity we don't have the Dangling Courage Units to do likewise.

Who would have thought we'd be in World War D and surrender without taking any action at all? In a sick sense, you can't fault Choom Boy for taking advantage of the Poppin' Fresh-ization of the "conservative" movement. We were ripe for plucking, and that's what he and his co-conspirators are doing.

Congress and The Supremes are helping him along. We may see the end this week.

It's hard to be symbol if you're dead. And I'm not saying that I agree with him, but I'm also not saying I'm convinced he gave away any state secrets. 302 I agree that at this point Snowden is just the squirrel and a diversion.  The real story is how the federales let him escape to China, and how China, Russia and other assorted minor players are flipping the middle finger at Teh JEF and his criminal administration.  I have a feeling that if this were any other administration this would have been "dealt" with by now.

All these terrorists from the 60s, 70s, 80s, who were hiding in eastern europe and the middle east had to run from country to country as communism fell and countries decided to play ball with Bush due to the war on terror.

342 As for not allying with Britain during WWII, why would the Boers, since Britain had not only invaded their colonization and thieved their investments, but had invented the Concentration Camps v.

Posted by: panzernashorn at June 24, 2013 08:31 AM (MhA4j)

Codified apartheid was created in 1948 when the Nationalists came to power.  They had been practicing many of its tenets in Boer parts of the country for a long time.  Once the Nationalists took over, they changed it from a practice into a law then gerrymandered the country to make sure they never lost power.

A side note:  During the early 80s when the anti-apartheid movement really got cranking big, South Africa was the only sub-Saharan country with positive immigration.  They were the only country with jobs.  The other countries in the region had managed to communist away all their jobs, so blacks were moving to South Africa despite the laws in place.  Now, not so much.

Tennessee Official: Water complaints could be considered an 'act of terrorism'

Sense of Events blog: http://senseofevents.blogspot.com/2013/06/are-we-too-paranoid.html  (story from The Tennesseean

A Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation deputy director warned a group of Maury County residents that unfounded complaints about water quality could be considered an “act of terrorism.”

“We take water quality very seriously. Very, very seriously,” said Sherwin Smith, deputy director of TDEC’s Division of Water Resources, according to audio recorded by attendees. “But you need to make sure that when you make water quality complaints you have a basis, because federally, if there’s no water quality issues, that can be considered under Homeland Security an act of terrorism.”

“Can you say that again, please?” an audience member can be heard asking on the audio.

Smith went on in the recording to repeat the claim almost verbatim...

Exactly.  Clinton and Gore SOLD lots of info to the Chinese for campaign bucks... also signed off on technology exchanges where our companies enabled the Chinese to build their space and aviation industries .  That was scandalous, but of course, you'd never hear about out because everyone was after Clinton for having sex, that 's all.  Nothing to see here, move on..

NGU if you give me access to your metadata I can reverse engineer your web....

N$A now has the ability to listen in and engage in domestic surveillance based on "hunch" if unrebutted rumor is to be believed....

they happily claim it has interdicted 50 terrorist incidents...if it has done this it means it has an active operational component and the potential for misuse easily.

The N$A is no more inherently noble than the IRS I'm sorry NGU the civil service has been weaponized and I am not fond of it.

If a sincere left wing and libertarian coalition formed to eradicate the civilian leadership who accepts the undermining of the bill of rights in a non partisan way I would happily join.

This goes beyond simple partisan angling and gets to the heart of the matter on liberty my friend.

Some tools are not needed, if we are looking for the easiest methodology for "security" we need look no further than Hitler and Stalin's games and be done with it.

I value liberty as much as security.

I am not accusing you of condoning the drift towards "efficieny uber alles" merely laying *my* cards on the table.

Obama's fans who engage in misdeeds using Federal and State power have thus far not paid a heavy price, I would lathe this being done by Bush I am enraged by it being done by my enemy.

Liberty first.

374 Snowden leaks aren't revelations per se, rather confirmation of existing suspicions.

The thin results of the NSA spying demonstrate that pro foreign spies and industrial espionage types were already aware of it (or suspected as much) and communicated with handlers via other more traditional less snoopable means.

How about,  "But you need to make sure that when you make   complaints about IRS behavior that you have a basis, because federally, if there is no IRS malfeasance, that can be considered under Homeland Security an act    of terrorism."

TEA PARTY GROUP:  "I'd like to file a complaint about the Exempt Status division of the IRS."

IRS OMBUDSMAN: "Okay, what is your complaint?"

TPG:  "We submitted our application    for exemption    almost three years ago and it has STILL not been confirmed or denied.  Instead we keep getting more and more invasive questions and demands for paperwork,   none of which    is    appropriate for this process.   I've worked with nonprofits before -- this level of scrutiny is ridiculous."

IRS OMBUDSMAN:  "I'm sorry, but they are following proper protocol.  And since you chose to complain about proper protocol, you will now go on a Terrorist Watch List.   Thank you and have a nice day."

But like I said before, I'm having a hard time telling who the good/bad guys are anymore. Our own president is stabbing us in the back and aiding the enemy.. the actual current enemy.. You know the ones that are killing our kids over in Afghanistan. Maybe it's because I can see that threat more clearly, and don't completely understand the impact of the specifics about the Chinese telecoms etc.. I admit I don't know much about that or how it affects our National Security, perhaps someone could school me on the issue. Also, like others, Snowden is not the issue to me at this point. 398 how can we really trust anything that is put out from this point forward on Snowden?

The safe thing is to assume literally everything is misinformation at this point and develop independent constraints of "the possible" based on physical limitations.

Within the realm of the possible, you can start working on "the probable" and "possible but insanely expensive/impractical", and narrow the field accordingly.

Essentially, you separate various media/govt claims into technically feasible and infeasible piles based on a probability matrix within the realm of the possible.

The probability matrix will in the end essentially look like a heat diffusion pattern from the thermodynamics equations.

404 "no of course Prism is not the Holocaust....." As if the Holocaust were one deliberation in policy. Wannsee or not. The Holocaust wasn't simply hatred of a specific population. It was hatred of all populations AND INDIVIDUALS deemed to be imperfect by the self-promoted authoritarians determining aesthetics for all with justice for none. Everyone suffered. Not just in Germany or Central Europe. Stalin killed more Russians, and Mao killed more Chinese, than Hitler killed civilian populations in his interventionist control (the majority Jewish, but nearly as many millions of "other" undesirables). The final point? Always Remember. Genocide as a final solution ends up destroying oneself in turn, hardly intentionally. Never overnight. Prolonged agony for naught but proliferation of evil. Knowingly, with the USSR, the US government absconded with the brightest of NAZI minds to direct our own governmental trajectory. And it only took until the Boomers began reaching retirement and the WWII Veterans RIP. Eisenhower's Warning isn't so tinfoil stale, after all, given the too many to count never ending wars drowning us in blood, broken minds, and too burdensome to maintain taxes whilst our government is no longer functioning constitutionally. Latest example: Syria Is Not Libya. And Libya should never have been, "We came, we saw, we killed. Bwahahaha!" Not to mention, another ALL US sponsored "NATO" War that has exhausted our too expensive for replacement and no maintenance available for the expired aircraft US Air Force fleet. Today's body of US government officials fail to acknowledge that truth. We are destroying ourselves whilst conquering the world for the abusive global authoritarian corporatists. The only hearts and minds won by the neoconservative war machine were our own, our faith having been abused by leaders who seemed so trustworthy because they appealed to our better nature. Get past the fig leaf hiding shame of becoming "suddenly" aware. Since being cast out of Eden so they could claim it all for themselves, We The People are all in the kettle being stewed for our national leaders to consume. Remember the old Depression song lyrics, "Nice job if you can get it. If you can get it, won't you tell me how?" Inalienable Rights. Above Reproach.

Follow the dots. Refrain from equating logic with hysteria so as to pretend that ignorance is bliss. Being unaware makes one safe from the augmenting threat. Not.
