Happy Wednesday.

Today is the final decision day for the Supreme Court's term. There will be decisions in the DOMA and Prop 8 cases, so check back for posts on that shortly after 10AM. Oh, a bit of Supreme Court trivia: today is the tenth anniversary of the Lawrence v. Texas decision.

Environmentalists supporting President Obama's war on coal have issued talking points, which include suggestions to avoid discussion of jobs or the rising price of electricity, naturally.

You may have heard about the drama in Texas last night, as GOP legislators tried in a special session to pass a law restricting most abortions after 20 weeks. The Democratic filibuster wasn't technically successful, but it did manage to run out the clock. Gov. Perry has suggested that he might call another special session.

Also in Texas, the state AG says the Voter ID law passed last year and challenged by DOJ under section 5 of the VRA will go into immediate effect since Texas is no longer a covered jurisdiction.

In case anybody cares, the AP wire is saying that Marc Rich, the trader pardoned by President Clinton, has died in Switzerland.

The East Coast got hit by a tsunami on June 13 and no one noticed.

I'm confused at the focus on Jay-Z and "cool" in this piece about making Obamacare hip for young people.

And in news we already knew, no, the IRS did not target progressive groups like they targeted conservative ones.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday, June 26, 2013.  On this day in 1870 Christmas was declared a federal holiday.  It only took a little over 100 years before the assholes started attacking it to tear it down.  We have reached the point now where a lot of people, and most of the MFM,  donÂ’t even use the word “Christmas” any more.

8 TX AG immediately initiates the TX voter ID law after the Supreme Court ruling.  Although the law was identical to one the Supremes had already OKÂ’d Obama was blocking it. (Same as SC and this after the SC law was upheld proving that the BS Section V was nothing more than a political tool by the radical Democrats).  TX was probably one of the few who will be able to do this because their law had already been passed.  Other States will have to fight the Democrat foot dragging tooth and nail to get a new law passed.  That will be hard to do before Congress “fixes” section IV)

HereÂ’s a short little story on the silent actress Pauline Curley.  DonÂ’t feel too bad if youÂ’ve never heard of her; she was a popular leading lady, but even serious film buffs barely remember her.

Born in 1903, she began “singing and dancing,” as she put it, at the age of 3 and was a vaudeville veteran by the time she teamed up with popular leading man Harold Lockwood in 1917 for The Square Deceiver.  To get her daughter the ingénue roles which would lead to stardom, CurleyÂ’s mother regularly added four years to her true age, a situation which led to a little complication with Lockwood. . .

During the shoot of Deceiver, LockwoodÂ’s girlfriend would accompany him on location.  One day she didnÂ’t tag along, so Lockwood turned to his co-star and asked, “Pauline, why donÂ’t you come with me?”  Thrilled to be treated as an adult, Curley enjoyed her outings with the handsome Lockwood, happy to go to lunch alone with him instead of with the rest of the company.

“We were getting along famously,” Curley recalled.  “Then this one morning, I thought why isnÂ’t he taking me with him today.  My mother said, ‘He didnÂ’t take you, did he?Â’  I said, ‘No, I wonder what happened?Â’

“She said, ‘I showed him your birth certificate.’”

Here she is, in all her jailbait beauty (click to enlarge) :

Pathetic.

68 If we had a real court the VRA act would have been struck down over 40 years ago on its first challenge.  It is blatantly unconstitutional on two scores.  The State get to set the time date and manner of elections and the equal justice part of the 14th amendment.  You can not pass a law that only affects some citizens and not all.

This law may have been needed at one time, but it should have applied to the entire country and it should have been written in a manner that gave the States more leeway to act and that did NOT require any "pre-clearance" from Washington.  Especially in that last change the Democrats rammed through that changed it from the courts to the DOJ and Eric "the hood" Holder.

Not even close to the most restrictive ban.  Here in Arkansas, our legislature passed a 12-week ban over the governor's veto.  (Note:  It only takes a simple majority to override a veto on regular bills.  The standard is higher on taxes.)

I don't think that's necessarily true.  She is "loyal"  to the Party, for sure, but the individuals in it, only to the extent that it remains helpful to the Party.

I have a feeling a lot more people are going to be listening to Sarah Palin in 2014 and beyond.  Frankly, I'm hoping she asserts herself more into that de facto role of being the Kingslayer of the Party.

Sure, there will be the occasional witch candidates, and people who aren't quite what they say they are, but if we have a system where DISLOYAL Republican office-holders will know she will come gunning for them (metaphorically speaking), it might have the effect of keeping some of them in line more regularly.

Not the likes of McCain and Rubio though, they're done.  I  don't expect her to show any loyalty to McCain.

The squirrels will still try to climb on it every way they can, but they can't get to the seed, it's funny to watch them try.

If "equality" were the ideal (obviously not in the world of Because I Could), then the [New] Black Panther American Muslims would go figure that "their kind" will always be, at best, second class citizen TOOLS to non-black Muslim activists. /Who's yo' daddy? Christianity no longer conducts war on the "wrong" Christian sect(s), but only since Ireland reached its cease fire agreement recently. A side observation notes that subsequent to the tolerance for "the others" also coincided indifference for one's own heritage and traditions. Given the current primal social order of patriarchal societies, the dominating fear of losing status/power vents death to the infidel and to whomever else doesn't quite measure up to whatever agenda, as if god's will. LOL, the only time I see him is when he drives by in his cop car.  It is against the law here to discharge a firearm in any residential neighborhood.  The last I saw it was a $200 fine and that was decades ago.

I have not tried to challenge him on this.  Even when he is not at home I am sure out of all the neighbors who have moved in at least one would call the cops if I started shooting these asswipe birds.

And believe it or not, these nuisance birds are covered by the federal migratory bird act which could result in huge fines for shooting them.

263 Using racial slurs? Above board, unless you accept the consequences, just don't go there. Ever. You want to call someone an ugly term, use a colorblind word by stipulating the person's character flaw. As for being obsessed with punishing anyone who uses a foreign translation of the color "black"? Get over it, sooner than later. Afro-Americans demanding Anglophile/English "Black" is nonsensical. If individuals haven't already taken note, then learn from Paula's bad experience. If EVER asked whether you've committed a politically incorrect act, at the very least, you can honestly respond to the inquisitor with, "Not like you do!" And immediately go on the attack, pushing the reporter's buttons with, "I've heard you. Admit it! You said [it] lots of times." Otherwise, repeat Rumsfeld's choice political line when under oath on trial for covering up Pat Tillman's death by "friendly fire" ambush. Regardless of the question, repeat the answer, "I don't recall." Otherwise, you've been scootered, libby.

298 Katherine Jefferts Schori is the current Episcopal Bishop of the US.  Reading her Wiki page, her parents quit the Roman Catholic Church and took her with them to the Episcopal Church.  Then her mother moved over to Eastern Orthodox.

As for herself after many degrees in biology she got ordained in Oregon.  She was in charge of their adult education services at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Corvallis.  Including things like popcorn theology - watch movies and discuss them.

Since her elevation to the top, the Episcopal Church has spent $22 million suing five dioceses who have split off.

Odd isn't it Sean how the MFM is always saying how the Roman Catholic Church has problems.

320 Benson's article misses the most important distinction. There is a huge difference between 501c3s and 501c4s. The conservative groups targeted are 501c4s, which are allowed to engage in politics, do long as that is not their primary activity. 501c3s are groups that can receive charitable donations and are not allowed to engage in politics at all. It would frankly be inappropriate for a tea party group to be a 501c3, but the issue is 501c4 applications. The problem is LIVs and even educated voters don't understand this difference, so the story has legs

Just following the comments, not having seen the vid. but it's one of my points.
You have a shotgun in the closet, a handgun in the night stand, but the perp does a covert entry and knocks you out before you know he's in the house.

I don't want to walk around my home armed, and answer the door bell with a shotgun in my hand. (For every offense there is a defense, and for every defense there is a counter.) Being a law abiding peace person means you are a target simply because the perp decides when and how to attack.

So the only real answer is make sure the SOB NEVER gets another chance to do it again, and still we (as a society) fail at even that.

This will happen in every single Protestant mainstream church that departs from the Theology on which it was founded and it's a tool of Satan. As I've noted before I intensely dislike and try to stay away from argumentative discussions about "my church is better than your church." because at this point Traditional Protestant who lift up Jesus as Lord, the Apostle's creed and traditionall marriage really have much more in common with RCs than they do with liberal Churches who share their name denominational name. As Obama and Holder go more aggressively after Christianity, those churches will have to stand together. The liberal ones will be like the state church in Nazi Germany. That's why ALL faithful traditional churches which are Protestant must stand against intimidation against the faith.

345 I really detest those hedonist churches where its like Jesus in concert and the Hymnal includes Stairway to Heaven. Best church I was ever in was a little old country church in Mineral Wells, Texas. Hand made pews that would rival factory. Men wore starched, bibbed overalls, boiled white shirts. Women wore the best dress Sears & Roebucks catalog sold. They were there for churchin'. Not to impress the neighbors.

Posted by: rickb223 at June 26, 2013 04:56 AM (NKBxV)

346 And (to follow up on my last comment): Even if people have bought into the rhetoric that children are a "lifestyle choice," they've only done so because the Life lobby has been prevented at every turn from telling the truth. Once you start telling those (especially those on the fence) what that very safe, clinical term "abortion" really means, they get turned off real fast. Heck, even just using the technical term (and not explaining what it means) is usually enough to make people (especially men) queasy.

370 I'm hoping Perry will call another special session--just for spite. I'd be viscerally appealing, but wasteful. So I'll skip it, thanks. The fact is, this bill could have been passed in the regular session, but Joe Strauss didn't want it. He's a regular John McCain (at least as far as actually siding with Republicans goes- not sure about his stance on the border).

374 Once you start telling those (especially those on the fence) what that very safe, clinical term "abortion" really means, they get turned off real fast. The defense testimony in the Gosnell trial was arguably just as bad for abortion advocates as the prosecution.

379 That's the kind of church I grew up in. People prided themselves on how sloppy they dared to dress for church. And if Jesus invited you to his house, THAT is how you would dress? I found that distinguishing themselves from "religious" churches was always Job One, rather than worship or reverence. So, if your purpose there is to rebel against the squares, I think you're missing the point. A GOP senate aide told Breitbart News that for the country to be able to spend $1.5 billion on such a program so fast, it would need to buy, lease or rent motor vehicles  for beneficiaries of the new government handout. The provision that outlines how the money can be legally used for providing “supportive services” like “transportation,” the aide said, could easily be interpreted to mean the money could be spent buying or leasing or renting vehicles for the beneficiaries.

“This appears to give states authority to buy, lease or rent motorcycles, cars and scooters or anything kids want to buy to get to and from a job,” the GOP aide said.

It's like they (all of these kinds of churches) have forgotten the "worship" part of "worship service." In fact, most of them have dropped "worship" from the name. Now it's just "Sunday morning service."

Well, service to whom? Not to God, from where I sit.

I'm an Episcopalian and that bishop is an embarrassment.

This is the church that brought me to Christ and I am loath to leave it.  My husband is a converted Catholic.  The EC as it used to be suited us perfectly, but it is destroying itself over something that is completely stupid.  Supposedly less than 5% of people are homosexual, and I would bet that less than 20% of them consider themselves Christian.  So we are talking 1% of the population.  My church is killing itself over 1% of the population.  But they are a very loud and obnoxious 1%.  They are determined to destroy the Catholic Church and are well on their way to ruining a few other denominations.  All because they cannot accept what the Bible says about their lifestyle.   I don't know why they won't just go Unitarian and leave the rest of us alone, or convert to Judaism so they don't have to worry about what Jesus or Timothy said.

The songs they sing are still out of the misselette and the religious song book that are used just like when its the choir or solo singer accompanied by the organ. Well, I come from a complete a cappella, whole congregational tradition. Anything that isn't that just seems "off" to me. That said, I don't mind the sound of a choir, or musical accompaniment (piano, organ, whatever). I do mind the "rock band" mentality, because that's always accompanied by the "my little Johnny" mindset: that is, "Oh, but you have to come this Sunday, my little Johhny was picked to play..." 430 Regarding Democratic reaction to the VRA--my gut instinct tells me they aren't going to be truly happy until Southern whites are rendered inert for all time The hate speech is quite clear. They can't point to anything massive occurring today, so we get 1964 redux. All Edmund Pettis Bridge, all the time. Germany gets treated with less contempt today than the descendents of those who stopped Hitler. And it's like Japan never started WWII. But in the South, every white guy is Bull Connor. The only thing needing pre-cleatance today is the Federal government on any decision involving the Tea Party. As to anybody screwing around with voting rights--such as the New Black Panthers--hang 'em high when it happens.

434 323 So long as the definition has not been revised, don't knee-jerk to a baited code word. Anyone with children knows that indeed the child alters one's lifestyle. And Good Parenting is a "lifestyle choice" as well that requires sacrifice, just as a good marriage requires the willingness to sacrifice unrealistic expectations in exchange for true love and harmony at home. I was unpleasantly shocked to find during the '90s that in grad school (returned to complete my doctorate), my "lifestyle choice" of marriage with children was literally eschewed by my "peers" and faculty as well, regardless of their marital status. Having children simply wasn't done. Not if you were truly dedicated to yourself and your work. You see, professionally, THAT is the only acceptable (required) sacrifice. I was told by a faculty member, "Anyone can have a baby. There's nothing special about that." So, when a married/childless fellow grad student asked me how I managed my schedule, and I included the word "self sacrifice" in explanation, her jaw dropped and eyes glazed over as she spontaneously shook her head "no". Whereas, while we boomers were growing up, our moms had stayed at home with us until we were in school before they went back to work, just as they had been working during WWII, married or not. That was a matter of economic survival for many Americans given the 1930s hardships as THEY grew up, followed by the American citizenry willing sacrifices (rations and drives) for our military troops during the war effort to gain Victory so our men could come home to live their lives and raise us kids. In our community, our moms had each other, and yet they were all about self sacrifice and responsibility, and demanded every bit the same from us in turn, that we become self sufficient. But then, they never had the cushy "benefits" of Ivy League elitist family settings (Daisy Buchanan). Now, everyone wants to be an asshole, the bigger the better. pfft /and we wonder where America went wrong./ A 70-year-old NYC nurse recently decided to retire because she couldn't take the public any longer. She recalled that when she entered the work force, the asshole in public was the exception to the rule. Whereas today, the decent person is the exception in life. (Jerry Doyle's mom's story)

436 The USSC always saves the opinions that are going to offend the majority of Americans for last. It's disturbing that we don't know from one day to the next what the Constitution says. It's really impossible to predict what the nine unelected mandarins will see in it today so I have no real expectations one way or the other on the homo issues. Self government died years ago in this country.

438 Given on May 12, 2013 in Curacao Venezuela.

Later in sermon - "When Jesus speaks of oneness, heÂ’s moving in that direction.  What would the world be like if we could love not only our lovers, but every human being with that kind of starry-eyed passion?"

Has this woman ever heard of platonic love?

439 I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with that. Newt and SE are pretty solid (rhetorically, if nothing else- and that's all they'd need to be on a Crossfire type show). Sure, Cutter and Jones are completely nuts Prog/Commies- but isn't that kind of the point of the show?

My problems are as follows:

1) Van Jones is a commie bastard whose face shouldn't see the light of a TV camera ever again.

2) Stephanie    Cutter   is an intellectual lightweight and a    waste of space.

3) S.E. Cupp is hit or miss.   When she gets it right she gets it right; when she gets it wrong she is so far off the reservation    it's uncanny.

4) Newt will be great.   My only fear is that they'll muzzle him.   If he's allowed to give the kind of cutting commentary he gave during   the campaign, then I might actually watch.   But I      don't think CNN will let him get away with that.

441 Schori just compared the girl being possessed by a demon with the Disciples when she says Paul deprived her of her spiritual gift. Isn't it a very, very bad thing to equate an unclean spirit with God?

443 Even that sermon by Schori isn't as bad as the sickening demonic idea that abortion is the work of God which was an idea of the new head of the Episcopal Divinity School, who by the way strikes me as one of the lesbians who hates traditional marriage and the family: http://tinyurl.com/cp39q8s

445 Trying to read it Vendette, but she is viewing Christianity through the prism of social justice.  So it all becomes one big rant against Christianity while dressed up in the vestments of religious authority.  But her religious authority is not from the Word of G-d but again the Moloch of Social Justice.

446 which ecig do you use.....just curious It's a rebuildable tank that a local store no longer makes. Rebuildable in that instead of using cartomizers, it uses a replaceable wick & wire system. Vegetable glycerine is thicker than propelyne glycol, (the other base), so I was changing them out once a day at 3 bucks a pop. The battery unit is a ZMax which uses a rechargeable 18650 battery. Same as my knock-off Surefire flashlight. vapiology dot com is where I order my supplies from.

447 Crossfire was the beginning of Fox News. It was the first time conservatives were on TV without a filter and the right were the ones who tuned in, in droves. Newt is clearly the big intellectual heavyweight there and the libs will complain that Cutter is useless and that Van Jones can't debate Newt (Jones is a faculty lounge radical, he says very provocative things that fall to ashes when touched with the slightest criticism). The Left doesn't have any great thinkers or debaters anymore. It's all about bien pensant with them at this point. They look for audience applause only.

448 Fenelonspoke never before have I seen such a perfect example of evil praised as being good.  But Ragsdale certainly does when she says a woman who is blessed with all the factors to raise a happy and healthy child can still kill her unborn child and its a blessing.  Its not a blessing you sanctimonious twit, its pure selfishness.

449 438. during the 19th Century, the aesthetic equated love of God with passionate sexual activity, though the phraseology was more poetic, and intent was to prove one's reverential dedication to one's lover rather than the glut of carnal sex with god. The biggest problem with forcing a symbol into a literal translation is that the meaning isn't only lost, it's sacred impact in the mind is corrupted and even destroyed.

451 Yes, indeed. Anna Puma. I agree-It was chilling. And believe me, I know lesbians who really aren't against marriage and the family even if they believe in gay marriage. I even know some former nuns who are lesbians who are absolutely opposed to abortion. Her comments ought to revolt any decent Christian.
