Happy Thursday.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is 7-11, which means it's 7-Eleven Day, which means free slurpees at 7-Eleven. Prize to the moron who gets the most free slurpees.

The fifth one here made a particularly cogent point about "flyover country."

Like the folks at Twitchy, I'm also finding this quite amusing.

Real news? No, I don't have any of that. Oh, and don't miss the AOSHQ liveblog this evening of Sharknado. No, we aren't kidding. The cobs have been working on their material since yesterday. Dave in Texas killed a guy with a trident.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, July 11, 2013.  On this day in 1796 the US took possession of Detroit from Britain under the provisions of the Jay Treaty.  We should give it back now but they wouldnÂ’t take it.

5 That report about the DOJ providing support for the Zimmerman lynch mob has made it to the MFM now.  Someone in Congress will almost have to “investigate” and make some more hot air.  No word on illegalities and a lot of outright lies and himing and hawing from CRA officials.  This agency, like the EEOC, was a huge damn mistake and should be removed from the 1964 CRA.

12 House GOP leaders give a dog and pony show over the magic beans they plan to give us on amnesty.

House Republican leaders on Wednesday reaffirmed that they do not plan to vote on the "massive" Senate immigration bill, and instead will pursue a series of smaller bills, after a rowdy closed-door meeting with the rank and file.

These smaller bills will go to conference and they will “compromise”.  The GOP leadership is still hell bent on committing political suicide and giving the commies complete control of the country in perpetuity.  Note that Politico has an article (link at Drudge) that says Boner is pushing amnesty behind closed door to work with Dems).

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) urged their House Republican colleagues to pass immigration reform legislation in a closed-door meeting Wednesday, with the Speaker arguing his conference would be “in a much weaker position” if it failed to act.

The GOP leadership is insane.  Soon they will be foaming at the mouth and wallowing in their own vomit.  That is why they continue to make such poor decisions.  Either that or they are still listening to stupid consultants that got Obama reelected despite the worst record in modern history.

27 ANOTHER MUST READ

This is the most idiotic thing I have ever seen the SC Supreme Court do in my 3 decades living here.  They have halted a murder trial at the request of the defense based on the SC “Stand Your Ground” law.  A home invader shot and killed the homeowner who was pulling a gun.  The defendant claimed stand your ground self defense.  The trial judge thought that was ridiculous so the lawyer filed for a stay with the SC Supremes.  They granted a rare mid trial stay!  We truly are living in a land of idiots and it is not just in CA and NY.  I have a feeling that they actually donÂ’t give a shit about the trial itself, they want to kill “stand your ground”.

Re: The Sellout Meeting:

GOP leaders are trying to muster support for a stripped-down immigration reform bill that would offer citizenship only to those brought into the country as children.

Speaker John A. Boehner warned Republicans would pay a price for failing to pass some immigration legislation. Boehner said at the meeting that "we need to move something," said Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), an ally.

Rep. Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.), last year's Republican vice presidential nominee, said at the meeting that immigration reform would be good for economic growth. He echoed Boehner in saying that doing nothing was not an option.

Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, whose move from Republican to independent to Democrat created a stir in the political world, will detail that evolution in a memoir slated to publish in 2014.

His memoir, “The Party’s Over: How the Extreme Right Hijacked the GOP and I Became a Democrat,” would hit stands as a campaign for governor unfolds if he launches a bid against highly unpopular Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

“I have now seen both these parties at the highest levels from the inside,” Crist said in the publisher’s release. “In the book, I’ll share my very strong feelings about what’s happened to the Republicans, how the party I grew up in has been hijacked by extremists, losing its compassion and common sense.”

145 People on the coasts are no more one type of people than are people who live away from the coasts. Just as you don't want to put on a mask and chase us through the cornfield (by the way I have cornfield within a short distance from my house) many of us don't talk about "flyover country" or think lesser of people who don't live on the East or West Coast. I never felt superior to people living in other parts of the country and I didn't feel that way when I was a liberal which has been almost 90% of my life . I spent four years in Virginia and loved most of the Southerners I met. I would be happy to live someplace else if spouse could get another job So when you look around at the people on the coast who post here that ought to tell you that not all people on the Coast think alike. I'm not happy with leftist thought coming out of Hollywood either. The political divide is not simply a Coast vs. non coast thing. Unless all the harpies and male equivalents protesting in Austin were not from Texas it's seems the wheat and the tares are all over the place. 152 Empire of Jeff,  Here are some ponytail answers.  Having dealt with a daughter and 2 granddaughters,  I am well-versed in this.

1. They are caught up in the laundry,  caught on t-shirts when taken off at night.
2. Stuck in the drain.
3. Under the bed (I bet there are 20 or so under there).
4. Under sofa cushions.
5. Wrapped around doll's hair.
6. On the floor of the bathroom,  behind the toilet.
7. Stuck on the end of a doll bed,  doll high-chair,  or other toy.
8. Used to hold a group of toys together,  such as play silverware.
9. On the doorknob on the inside of the bedroom door.

I could go on.   Offer them a nickel for every one they can find.  It will keep them busy for a while.

So far out of everything that has been tried, it has been the only thing that has helped restore a bit of energy without the horrible side effects of some of the other nasty little things they've had me try.

200 I remember when that brit au pair was charged with murdering a baby. Her atty insisted that the lesser included of Invol. MS not be given to the jury because he was so sure the jury would acquit. They did not. Then he bitched and moaned to the court. It was the infamous Barry Scheck. The court did reduce it and she served to less than a year in prison. The chances of Judge Fatass doing that are zero to none. However, I am afraid with a MS instruction the jury will split the baby. A MS sentence will be a long one with the gun enhancement.

I think it would be a really cool stunt to make a similar video, only do it in a studio somewhere and composite in the DC background on a green screen.  Make a second video clearly showing how, and where, the original was made.  Then post the original to YouTube and when the Gestapo comes and arrests you release the "Making Of" video and sue the living sh*t out of everybody involved in the arrest.

But that would probably be illegal too...

--

Can someone explain this to me?  We effectively have no economic growth.  Legalizing millions upon millions of illegals will help us how?  So they can pay taxes from working low wage jobs that actual Americans could have where they could be the ones paying taxes instead of the illegals?  As already stated, legalizing the chirrens would just be one baby step away from anchoring the entire family and heeellllooo citizenship for everyone.  It's a buffalo job.  A snow job.  A con.

And someone needs to tell the Drunkard of the House that he should look at polling showing a vast majority of Americans don't care about this.  We want the economy improved.  As amnesty, in all its nefarious forms, lays in the bottom of the priorities barrel for most Americans, these 'tards must do something!!eleventy!11  WHY?

254 Can someone explain this to me? Importing (well, they're already pre-imported, so "legalizing") millions of low-skilled, low-wage, Obamacare ineligible workers does not help the economy. It does, however, help big business. It allows them to hire those newly-legalized individuals and pay them minimum wage (if that) for work that would probably normally cost them eight or nine bucks an hour. Oh, and they don't have to provide benefits. So it keeps their bottom-line low. As Bastiat might say, "This is what is seen." What is not seen (note: it's seen, they just don't care) is that it depresses wages, increases the workforce (and, therefore unemployment- there are a limited number of jobs, after all), and generally reduces the spending-power of families. What is also not seen (or, rather, ignored) is the *cost* of those "low cost workers." They don't get benefits, so they swarm ERs and don't pay their bills. They work mostly off the books, so they get Medicaid and WIC and Food-stamps and so forth.

The Democrats want to import voters.. It's just that simple.

The Republicans must know this. Yet they play along with the charade, as though they truly believe they will be rewarded with a bigger slice of the hispanic/latino/choose your term vote.

I would be gobsmacked if some prominent Republican would just look into the camera and say 'we oppose this legislation because it is a naked attempt by Democrats to import votes and create a permanent majority'.

I have been saying that for a long time.  They are late to the table on that one.  Back when I had my heart attack I did a lot of research and there were a number of studies then that said salt intake had little or no impact on heart disease unless you were one of the small percentage of people who were salt sensitive.

That was 7 years ago.

331 Okay, I caught the "opinion" about Joss Whedon, but I guess I missed the impetus for it. What'd he do? Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) at July 11, 2013 09:09 AM (/PCJa) Extraordinarily short answer is Tara. Let's just say that there's no hate like the hate of a fangirl betrayed. Tiny bit longer version is that Whedon is unable to write anything other than teenage characters, be they male or female, and that he makes the laziest possible choices when it comes to advancing a story line. Being Jossed doesn't mean that ohhhh he's so brilliant and has a long term plan. It means that he does not give a single shit for the mythology he's creating and that he will cause his characters to act in any way that they must, despite all prior characterizations and all prior canon, in order to pursue whatever rabbit hole he's suddenly decided to take. It shows an absolute contempt for the audience and for his own work. Hell, let's take Avengers. As soon as I heard he was involved, I knew exactly what character was going to die and the purported motivation behind that death. At this point, it's such a cliche that it's simply assumed that he's going to kill someone off when he gets to any kind of sticking point in the plot. That's *boring*. You know what else is boring? I can tell you right now that he's going to attempt to retcon what he did in the first Avengers. Of course he is, that's what he does.

Time to get on the horn today and call your Reps and Boehner's office if you can.

Last week I called mine, Randy Forbes, R - VA, whose claim to fame is that he's the head of the Prayer Caucus (!)  I asked how he planned to vote on immigration.  The woman who answered the phone said "she couldn't speak for him" (!@#$) and that I should go to his website to see his positions on stuff.  Translation:  You wouldn't like it if I admitted his real position to you.

If you look at the lobbyists for amnesty, they include that Zuckerberg kid and the Koch Bros as well as Sheldon Adelson and Ken Langone (Home Depot founder and frequent whiner about regulations).  There is so much money promoting it, it would be no surprise to see individual payoffs of congress critters in the millions for a "yay" vote.  It's all about the Benjamins, plain and simple.

Last night, Forbes was interviewed by the Real News gang on GBTV as one of the "insiders" on the committee in Boner's closed-door hearing.  He has totally bought into the premise that Something Needs to Be Done (!!Eleventy!!)  He is a worthless mushmouth who was conservative initially, but he has gone over to the Dark Side.

I must have hit a nerve a couple months ago when I wrote him a letter ending it with "Prayer Caucus, indeed."

His aide called my house repeatedly to discuss it.  I screened every damn call.

Posted by: HoboJerky, Hash Hunter at July 11, 2013 08:10 AM (X4HxX) Very dead thread response: There are actual intellectual anarchists, and then there are rock-throwing black-armband black blocers. The latter are by far the majority and they actually bear very little allegiance to their supposed ideals. There's a group of "anarcho-capitalists" associated with many of the big economic protest groups affiliated with the black bloc. The words *should* mean something, but often don't.
