Happy Monday.

Ah, just the sort of fresh ideas we've come to expect from this President. This week President Obama is going to pivot to jobs . . . and attack Republicans. "The President thinks Washington has largely taken its eye off the ball on the most important issue facing the country." Translation: the idiot who spent the last week politicizing Trayvon Martin's death wants to talk about something else now.

Doctors are skeptical and confused about the Obamacare exchanges.

NY food stamp recipients are shipping welfare-funded groceries to relatives in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Haiti.

Muslims in France are reacting to the country's face veil ban exactly like you'd expect.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, July 22, 2013.  On this day in 1934 John Dillinger was shot and killed outside the Biograph theater in Chicago.  He was ratted out by the owner of a whorehouse, Ana Cumpăna, sometimes called “the lady in red”.  But I really have no problems with that.  He was one of the most violent criminals of the day and the only reason he is well known is the lurid reports issued by the MFM glorifying him. Gee, how things have not changed much since 1934.

2 Michigan governor puts the blame for DetroitÂ’s financial problems squarely on the city leadership and says there will be no bailout by the State. I would have went one further and said it was what you expect when you have sole control by the Democrat Party and you throw in massive corruption and the unions on top of it.

5 US Marshall service has “lost track” of 2,000 encrypted two-way radios worth millions. I suspect that they were treated like office supplies. The agency says the radios are not really missing and it is simply “poor record keeping”.  Something like this should be made the responsibility of the officer they were issued to and if turned up “missing” then they should pay for it out of their own pockets.  I would bet the “record keeping” would improve then.

20 Liberal at WaPo blames DetroitÂ’s problems on “white flight” due to black riots in the 60s.  Why is it that liberals can not see the forest for the trees?  The race riots of the 60s may have had something to do with people of all races leaving the urban areas but that is long gone.  So why have whites AND blacks left Detroit and other Northern urban areas?  Number 1 - high taxes, number 2 – high crime, and number 3 lack of jobs. (and the jobs left because of high taxes and unions).  Since liberals all believe in tax and spend they have blinders on when it comes to this.

Hello, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  IÂ’d say itÂ’s good to be back again, but IÂ’m tired of being a responsible adult.  CanÂ’t I just eat my waffle?

Anyway - everybody loves a Joan Crawford story.  HereÂ’s one from a wonderful 1980 book called Hollywood:  Land and Legend.

It takes place in 1943, just after Crawford had left MGM for good.  She had signed with Warner Brothers, who sent the publicist Henry Rogers over to meet her and talk about PR.  Rogers knocked on the door of CrawfordÂ’s Brentwood mansion, to be met by an English butler who told him, “Take your shoes off – Miss Crawford does not allow shoes in here.”  After the press agent was down to his socks, the butler guided him through a kitchen paneled in white, up a white hall and into a white bedroom.

Crawford was sitting in her dressing room, reading a script while one woman gave her a manicure and another, at her feet, was giving her a pedicure.  Somewhere in the background, Rogers remembered, a young male hairdresser fluttered somewhere behind and above her.

After the introductions had been made, the star looked Rogers over, then handed him three copies of a typed agenda.  “Call me Joan,” she said.  “IÂ’ll call you Henry.  YouÂ’re planning to give me ideas.  Well, I donÂ’t need them.  IÂ’m a better press agent for Joan Crawford than anyone else could ever be.  Let me do the thinking.”  She turned back to her wall of mirrors, checking her makeup.  “IÂ’m getting ready for dinner now,” she went on, talking to RogersÂ’ reflection.  “so I wonÂ’t have time to talk to you any longer.  Please get started and follow through on what IÂ’ve indicated.”

Rogers left the dressing room, looking over the schedule.  To his astonishment, he found that Crawford had even scheduled her times in the bathroom, as well as some rather more. . .personal needs.  One item on the agenda confused him, though.  Daring her wrath, he knocked on CrawfordÂ’s door.  “My apologies, Miss Crawford,” he began, “but what does “TIME FOR PHILIP” mean?”

Crawford smiled.  “Well, weÂ’re going to be good friends, Henry, so IÂ’ll tell you.  Philip is my husband.  ‘Time for PhilipÂ’ is when we fuck.”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Posted by: Jones in CO

I like it when the news reports show some rally somewhere with enraged (eleventy) people screaming into a microphone and 20 people standing behind them on the podium looking stern. The news drones on about the "rally" and then the camera pulls back a little. You can see that the only people there are news cameras and about 15 other people. The 20 stern people couldn't even gin up friends and family for this piece of sh*t.

That's something that has bothered me as well.  ISTR that there was a time that if a cop fired his service weapon the department had to account for every round and where it went.  Somehow I doubt that policy still prevails considering that in apprehending the Boston Marathon bomber it seemed that the cops expended enough ammunition to invade a small country.

I'm not arguing with the results, but I find the use of military style tactics in people's back yards kind of disturbing.

73 (Hint: that is a 70's-80's NYC reference!) Somebody a generation ahead of me in age forwarded an email chain full of factoids and jokes about Obama, his minions, and the FSA at large. I delicately informed this person that the majority of the content of that email chain was derived from jokes that were so far beyond the pale even as far back as thirty years ago that they could be found only in the "Truly Tasteless. . . " series of paperbacks. Yeah. Obama has worked wonders for race relations.

Even Choom Boy, who has never met anyone he couldn't blame, has to realize that the collapse of Dee-triot can only be laid at the feet of corrupt political hacks from the Protected Class and Democrat policies. There is nothing in it for him.

It's easy enough to do.  Just find out who wants face time and You Tube it.  Or perhaps PJTV.  They just have to know that harsh language is par for the course.

And yes, I'm being serious.  If we can't buy out the MFM, we can at least have a MNN.  With all the knowledge here at the Horde, it shouldn't be too hard to put together a professional-looking, Vic-quality sounding daily broadcast.

Actually, speaking of J. Edgar reminds me of a story I once heard from G. Gordon Liddy:

It seems that, during his tenure at the Bureau, Liddy learned that you never asked for clarification of any of HooverÂ’s directives – ever!  Naturally, this would lead to problems.  Apparently, one day a report on immigration crossed HooverÂ’s desk.  Now, the chief was a stickler for proper appearance, and didnÂ’t like the way the report was formatted.  So he sent it back to the agent who had submitted it with one sentence scrawled over the first page:  “WATCH THE BORDERS.”

Well, of course, the agent thought, Hoover meant the borders of the report and began retyping.  ThatÂ’s when another agent saw the report and said, “are you sure thatÂ’s what he means?”

“What else could he mean?” the first agent asked.  “He wants me to fix the borders of the report.”

“I hope you’re right,” the second agent replied, shaking his head.

After thinking about it for a few minutes, the agent went to his department head.  Both of them agreed Hoover had to be talking about the report, but just to be sure. . .

As Liddy tells it, for the next few years, two FBI agents were posted to the Canadian and Mexican borders.  When asked why, they simply said, “Hoover told us to watch the borders, and by God, weÂ’re gonna watch them!”

Posted by: Case at July 22, 2013 07:57 AM

Unless you're thinking "original Volkswagen Beetle" or "'56 Chevy" the Official Car of Mexico (as of 10 years ago, anyway), yeah.

All new cars are well-shielded against magnetic forces, electro- and otherwise, but you can only do so much hardening without making the vehicles so heavy that they are useless.

178 (Reuters) – Panamanian investigators unloading the cargo of a seized North Korean ship that carried arms from Cuba have found the two MiG-21 fighter jets the Cuban government had said were on board, the government said on Sunday.

Alongside the two supersonic planes, originally produced by the Soviet Union in the late 1950s, officials found two missile radar systems on board the Chong Chon Gang, President Ricardo Martinelli told reporters in the Atlantic port of Colon.

The discovery, which included cables and electrical equipment, was made inside containers on the ship Panama had feared might contain explosive material. None was found.

After stopping the vessel bound for North Korea last week, Panama revealed it had found weapons in the cargo hold late on Monday. In response, Cuba said the shipment contained a range of “obsolete” arms being sent to North Korea for repair.

Eh, the role of the law in Christianity has a long history, in part via Aquinas, but absent some remarkable systemic problems, you're right it shouldn't be an issue.

The problem is (to be blunt) that many blacks see this as proof of a systemic problem. (I'm not sure I even by that as a racial issue, far more studies seem to point to it being a money issue more than race.)  Every time my family members get up and arms about the "oppressive regime" it's all I can do not to mock them. (I try not to stat intrafamily race wars )

Plus what people keep forgetting to point out is our system is designed to err on the side of innocence, so even if you disagree the story told by the defense (because you're stupid and refuse to see facts), it's hard to argue that it doesn't fall in to a category that fits that.  Yet people will.

>>I have a question about the Obamacare delay..

So far, they have delayed the employer mandate, and now it looks like they will delay the individual mandate.

Will the insurance companies also be exempt from having to cover all applicants? The whole point of the mandate, stupid as it was, was to ensure the insurance companies would get enough new business to pay for the really sick people forced on them by Obamacare.
.

.It appears the answer to that question is no.  Insurance companies will be required to insure everyone with no exceptions.  That means everyone who currently is insured will see their premiums skyrocket overnight because there are no "new fish" coming into the pool other than the previously un-insurable.

True.  But as well, the problem was one of rank.  The Spencers, though nobility, are not royalty.  The glare of publicity on the House of Windsor - especially the next Queen - is enough to shatter a young, immature girl such as Diana was.  Charles would have been far better marrying another royal, even if it were from Sweden or Norway.

Boehner, appearing on CBSÂ’ Face the Nation, dodged repeated attempts to get him to spell out his personal views on a path to citizenship...

“It’s not about me; it’s not about what I want,” said Boehner, a West Chester Republican. “This is about allowing the House to work its will.”

Boehner said taking a personal stand on the issue would make it harder for him to find consensus on immigration in the House. “If I come out and say, ‘I’m for this, and I’m for that,’ all I’m doing is making my job harder,” he said. “My job in this process is to facilitate a discussion and to facilitate a process.”

Well now we're back at Romney's 47% issue (which, sadly, is accurate.)

Our ability to appeal to people more interested in getting bennies from the government is pretty much nil.

The only way to effect change is to sway most/all of the other 53%.

Then it's a matter of generations of holding that level of support so you can disassemble the system and get people used to living without it.

In the abstract, yes, MWR.  And I absolutely agree that putting out one message for all - e pluribus unum - is how the new conservative party should go about framing its message.  But the person who lives from SSI check to SNAP card isn't - with rare exceptions - a person on whom the "financial independence" line will work.  If you can make more by sitting on your ass instead of going to a job, why would you want to be financially independent?

265 Creeping Transnationalism?

"Proponents call this movement "legal transnationalism," and as Mr. Kyl writes in a recent Foreign Affairs magazine article (co-authored with Douglas Feith and John Fonte of the Hudson Institute), "the idea that a U.N. official can sit in judgment of the U.S." is one of its main innovations. Transnationalists want to rewrite the laws of war, do away with the death penalty, restrict gun rights and much more—all without having to win popular majorities or heed American constitutional limits. And these advocates are making major strides under an Obama administration that is itself a hotbed of transnational legal thinking."

When hubby and I went through a few really rough years (we took no food stamps or aid, though, thank you) we survived largely on beans, rice, and cheap canned and boxed food. We didn't starve but both of us put on weight during that period, even though we weren't really eating all that much. Now that we are more comfortable I shop the outer edges of the store almost exclusively and we eat nothing but fresh fruits, veggies, meats, and cheeses. I cook everything from scratch and don't buy anything processed, and we are paying $200+ a week to feed two adults and two kids under ten. When we were poor and bought all the cheap food, which was hella unhealthy, I could feed all of us for an entire month on $200, but it was all shit food.

292 IÂ’m having my favorite pasty for breakfast. I usually buy six on Saturday but the bakery only had five. I have two each morning. Yesterday I couldnÂ’t eat two, I had one and a half. Today IÂ’m having remaining one and a half. They are icicles, white cake, chocolate frosting with nuts and coconut. My father used to buy them when I was a kid. I forgot all about them until I drove by a local bakery four years ago. I called and they still make them. I found a bakery that makes them even tastier. The baker puts chocolate syrup in frosting. I need to gain weight but never do manage. I forget to eat when at work or busy in my garden and donÂ’t want to take the time to eat.

293 I agree with Mandy that the type of food eaten contributes to the obesity epidemic-carbs are cheaper to buy if you're on a fixed income.

294 Good Morning, revolutionaries. #PoisonIvy - I used to have severe reactions. Summer weeks slathered in that crusty pink stuff. When we moved to the old family farm 20 yrs ago, the place was full of it, and I plunged in getting rid of it. Despite precautions, I got in contact & it started pustulating & spreading like always. Wife gave me homeopathic Rhus Tox and it all went away. First time it my life it went away. And if it ever seems to come back, I take RT & it goes away. I know homeopathy has its critics. They're welcome to their opinion. As a lifelong poison ivy victim now able to deal with it, I know my experience. YMMV. Of course, homeopathy isn't covered by your insurance. Or O'care. :-!

You stupid racists. None of you are smart enough to understand why our wise and multiracial President does what he does. Master of us all, he sees beyond the present and deals with multiple threats at once that stand between correctly-thinking persons and a better world.

Some of those threats are ignorant right-wing RethugliKKKans like all of you.
