Happy Wednesday.

The broadcast nets gave more than three times the coverage to Wendy Davis for her 10-hour filibuster than to Kermit Gosnell's entire 53 day trial for killing people and keeping trophies of dead babies.

The judge has refused to dismiss the defamation suit filed by climate alarmist Michael "hockey stick" Mann against National Review.

There are some good suggestions and some very bad suggestions for fixing law school.

A second woman has come forward to accuse San Diego mayor Bob "I'm a Hugger" Filner.

Hello, fellow Morons.  I just took a quick look at the threads Ace posted after I signed off for the day.  Before I rage-stroke, hereÂ’s a short story to start off the morning:

When Warner Brothers decided to adapt A Midsummer NightÂ’s Dream for film in 1935, producer Hal Wallis wanted to have comedian Joe E. Brown play the role of Flute, the bellows mender.  When he discussed the role with BrownÂ’s agent Ivan Kahn – who, of course, would get ten percent of the actorÂ’s fee – Wallis told him that the head office was sure a Shakespeare picture would lose money; all they could offer the performers was the prestige and glory that would come from appearing in such a prestigious movie.

Kahn stared at Wallis.  “Do you mean that you want Brown to work for nothing?”

“Oh, no,” the producer said quickly.  “We were thinking of making him a present.  A Packard, say, or a Cadillac.”

“And what do I get?” Kahn growled.  “A bicycle?”

And now, for logprof (and all you other ass men out there), a picture.  If IÂ’d typed this up last night instead of this morning, it would be bigger.  But youÂ’ll get small and like it:

Or perhaps this link will work better:

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

17 RE: judge refusing to throw out defamation lawsuit of "Hockey Stick" Mann. Well alrighty then, let's get it on. If he feels defamed he needs to prove the claim. Discovery should be pretty interesting especially if the defendant decides to bring forth all those emails showing they collaborated to skew the data. Mann and his university's research department need to be shamed into submission.

18 13 Posted by: BornLib at July 24, 2013 06:58 AM (zpNwC) The SCOTUS was never meant to have all this power over us; it was meant to be the least intrusive of all the branches of government. Now it is basically a rubber-stamp for communism. Roberts and the other leftists are the greatest argument for TERM LIMITS for them and the Legislative branch.

20 Weiner and his wife got a big smack down from the NYT: Mr. Weiner and Ms. Abedin have been saying that his sexual behavior is not the publicÂ’s business. Well, it isnÂ’t, until they make it our business by plunging into a political campaign. Mr. Weiner says he is staying in the mayoral race. To those who know his arrogance and have grown tired of the tawdry saga he has dragged the city into, this is not surprising. http://goo.gl/FToX1m

39 Daily Caller link: “When children wander into neighborhood yards, we don’t call that trespassing. When children cry and yell and scream at restaurants or on airplanes, we don’t call that a violation of the noise ordinance,” South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, said at the outset of the hearing on “Addressing the Immigration Status of Illegal Immigrants Brought to the United States as Children.” “When children eat a grape at the grocery store or eat a piece of candy waiting in line before mom or dad pays for it we don’t have them arrested for petty larceny,” he added. ”Children can’t sign contracts, vote, purchase certain items, or even work in some instances because the law treats children differently.”

This is why we should abandon the liberal trait of idolizing politicians/candidates because they a) say something we agree with on occasion or b) have a nice rack.

They always let us down when they get a taste of that sweet, sweet life that politics can provide. We've all been told what power does, and whoever came up with that line had no idea how corrupting D.C. can be.

51 Regarding Trey Gowdy:

I think he is probably right both morally and politically.  I realize a lot of people here are for strict enforcement of the law with no exceptions,  but I cannot bring myself to say that kids who were brought here as infants and grew up as Americans,  should be condemned for their parents violations of the law.

This is the only home they have known,  and some of them don't even know much Spanish.

However,  what I see is that the dems do not want this compromise with the GOP as it isn't enough.  They are demanding all or nothing.  So Gowdy has revealed the dems purpose,  which is to make this an issue and use it to whack Republicans.

I still like Trey Gowdy.

I'm sure that, depending on your point of view, an exception can be made to EVERY law. Do that enough, and the purpose of the law fades, and vanishes.

Some people like to bring up these tear-jerker stories about how Little Juan was brought here as a baby and, now that he's about to graduate from high school with a 4.0 GPA (attained while spending 30 hours a week working at a menial job to help out with family expenses and 20 hours a week singing in the church choir) and scholarship offers from Cal Tech, MIT and Hah-vud, he's scared shitless that some mean old immigration officer is gonna put the arm on him.

Ya know what? I don't care. As dey say in Noo Yawk, "skroom." The nation can't, as currently run, even take care of the legitimate needs of the 300 million who are here legally.

When a lawyer takes the case, he will have the priority of getting NR off the hook foremost on his agenda.  If we're going to contribute, we would want the exposure of Mann to top the list.  Discovery and depositions can go in a hundred different directions, so if you don't figure out what your goals are early, you can just go in circles.

It will take far more money to bring out all the facts under oath and totally destroy Mann than it would to simply free NR from exposure under the suit.  NR might want to take the cheap route and pocket the difference in donations when that moment comes.

Mann took the bait and left himself and the entire global warming movement exposed.  It would be a shame to let this opportunity slip away.

Agreed.  Not that I do not see Miss Marple's point, I do.  The kids are victims, but, they are not victims because anyone but their parental unit(s).  However, if we fold on this, before the ink is dry there will be another million or so children that are rushed across the borders to get amnesty--even they are 16-17 and have not one word of English.  Either the law matters or it does not.  I keep asking and no one can tell me what my "free" felony or felonies might be--you know those felonies that I just had to commit so that I could have a better life?  I am not big enough or Democratic enough to pull off Corzine/Madoff level felonies and I don't want to terrorize some poor gal or guy working as a bank teller, so what are my options?

If a Democrat strays off the reservation then they get smacked down (see Joe Lieberman). We have too many mushes allegedly on our side who react to the Democrat/MFM narrative and try to be liked by them instead of doing the right thing for the nation. If Gowdy is doing this, the reaction should not be "well, at least he's good on other things." Every issue on the table today is do or die for the nation. Gowdy and anyone else who wavers should not be given a pass but she be warned by us, via the phone, fax, e-mail or whatever. Sorry. No more of this for me.

If the government is so concerned about hurting the feelings of the Mexican government,  they should start hunting down those drug cartel people who infest the border area.  It would be a nice face-saving gesture and border security could be instituted at the same time.

I guess people just want their liberal propaganda sans snarky machine-gun style dialogue and cloying forced whimsy. "What is 'Bunheads'?" you may ask, since obviously you've never seen it. It was a show about a Vegas Showgirl transplanted to a quaint little coastal town where she bonds with the teens at the local ballet studio and they have much Gilmore Girlsesque interactions and politically correct talky talk. And sparkly things. This show was pretty high on my conservative-bashing list (one of the first episodes had a line about how the quaint little town needed a male crossdresser to go along with "the Republican" and some other kind of freak). "Get 'em while they're young" is #2 in Alinsky's Rules, right? Anyway, good riddance. /rant Back to Vic!

My problem is that I don't see a Conservative alternative to the labor force issue.  Why isn't there a bill in process that creates a better mechanism for temporary workers?

I would like to see a visa that is issued to a manpower firm based on a bond.  They fund a performance bond for the worker's temporary visa - that bond has conditions related to the worker's health and safety, liability insurance, effective financial tools and eventual return.  The visa issuance could be tied to LSAs, regional AA unemployment, etc. to assauge various interests. These manpower firms would have a current (get your cash back) and future (cost of future bonds) interest in effectively administering the process.

116 I'm at the point where if amnesty passes with GOP support, I'm voting for the Democrat. The key will be to tell the GOP beforehand that when they lose the independent/conservative vote, it won't be because the Right was against Even More Comprehensive Piece of Sh*t 2.0. It'll be because the GOP chose poorly. The Democrat gains will be as a consequence of GOP failing its base.

About this the Right must be clear before the election so there's no misinterpretation of why the GOP lost.

Besides, decide wrong on this as the GOP "leadership" seems to be aching to do and it'll have committed suicide anyway. My vote would become be immaterial in pretty much any subsequent election. So, I'll provide the strychnine if they insist.

As I wrote earlier, it is not our fault nor should it be our responsibility to care for children whose parents broke the law. Levin has the perfect analogy. What about the children of convicted felons who are in prison? If someone breaks the law by coming here illegally, then they alone must deal with the consequences of their actions. And I can guarantee that if we had secure borders, punished people and businesses harshly for hiring/hiding them and did not offer them all sorts of welfare, then they would not be coming here in the first place. This is liberalism. You are not responsible for the shit that you do. Society is. How I HATE the left.

120 When a child . . .

It's the compassion trap, the Christianity trap, the White Guilt trap. "For the Children", "If it saves one life" (x abortion which is a woman's right to chose), the feelings trap, the fairness trap.

Why would anyone presume that a child of a foreign national deserves to live in the United States as a citizen? If that is the basic assumption, then everyone deserves to live in the US as a citizen, and there is the trap, sprung.

Everyone deserves to live in the US because it was the greatest, most free, most fair land of opportunity in history, and rather than working to make other countries free, fair, we open our arms to the population of the entire planet.

Every liberal rational is backwards, inverted, reversed mirror image to reality, for some inexplicable reason.

Most citizens of the US earn their citizenship, either by working everyday, or service in the military. Our ancestors earned their citizenship by force of arms, suffered and died for that citizenship. We fought a civil war to end slavery, and liberals want to give it away in exchange for political power, for party loyalty. It is a disgrace. It is shameful, and it is an embarrassment that too many people can't see that.

How much did you steal from your company in the last week-$50,00, $100.00 or $500.00 or more?" I can only think that they must try to trick you up on questions to see if you're consistent. Spouse doesn't do any of those things but unless you were really stupid why would you answer in a way to incriminate yourself?' Actually, we had a good laugh about it. Posted by: Miss Marple at July 24, 2013 08:11 AM (GoIUi)

Exactly! We have citizens who don't deserved their citizenship because they have never earned it. Instead they sold it to a political party in exchange for 'benefits'.

Liberals destroy the value of everything they touch because liberals don't see value, they see only leverage, something they can use to advance their own personal wealth/power/influence. Citizenship? Vote for me and I'll grant you citizenship? Nice home? Vote for me and I'll grant you special 'incentives' that will help you get it. Nice job? Vote for me and I'll steer large sums of tax money toward you and you can take a small bite out of the stream.

Nothing the modern liberal does is honorable; it's all twisted and perverted to the liberal's benefit.

187 " The kids are victims, but, they are not victims because anyone but their parental unit(s)."
...........
To which I say Bullshit.

Since the last amnesty under Reagan, this country has purposely ignored securing our borders.  Why? Cheap labor.  There is no other reason than that.  The businesses that hire these illegals have made clear with their political contributions that they want the cheap labor to continue.

And we let them.. not the Democrats alone, either.  Bush 41 and Bush 43 did NOTHING.

And business still wants cheap labor.  The Chamber of Commerce is all for immigration reform.

So, we have been complicit in bringing these kids here.  And, yes, I know a lot of conservatives howled about this over the years.. but not loud enough.. many other things took priority.  So, now we have this situation.

I say

1. Close borders
2. Biometric ID every visitor to stop visa overstays
3. Work permits for those illegally here after registration and a hefty fine
4. Kids (and only kids) get a pathway to citizenship if they have been here x number of years

Only the kids would ever get to vote when they reach voting age after attaining citizenship.

Adult relatives of these kids, and those on work visas, could apply for permanent residency, but not citizenship.

Morning, all!

So twice in as many weeks I've had random people in grocery store checkout lines offer to let me move ahead of them    in line.  Both times I only had a couple of items, so   I get that, but today the guy who offered to let me    move ahead only had a couple of big   boxes of cat   litter himself, so WTF?     Maybe he was going to ask for a carton of cigarettes, too,    which would add another twenty minutes to his time at the cash register as the clerk dons the mandatory hazmat suit.

Either I'm suddenly exponentially hotter   than I was a couple weeks ago, or I give off an aura of impatient irritation.     Or    I suppose it could be that    people are suddenly being courteous for absolutely no reason at all, which would mean I'd have to rethink this whole LIB thing, at least in part.

202 Regarding Zimmerman, and so much more: Exactly how righteous is it to allow a man who was only trying to help others suffer due to the oh too common baseness and ignorance of others? What should be the reward for such things? What praise should be given for taking the easy, quiet way out, of letting the man work himself out of the situation himself? Exactly how should the society be viewed that abandons those who were trying to support it? If you are not willing to actively take action, then what good are you? Why should others sacrifice to build for you when you cannot even lift up your voice in support? It is easy to say Mr. Zimmerman made a mistake. It is harder to say you will stand his watch in his stead.

Meh.  I watched it a few times but never liked it.  The fact that I wanted to   shoot    George, drown Kramer, and smother Elaine by the end of every episode didn't help things much.   I could stand Jerry, but then I'd look at who his friends were and how much I wanted to participate in their grisly deaths, and think to myself, "Why the hell would I like this guy?  His friends SUCK."

227 Chi-Town, independent of these policy discussions - a real discussion on how to secure the border is needed.  There are significant technical, legal, and procedural hurdles.  Such as:

1.  We need a legal "buffer" zone - tied to the DHS matriculation line - that allows immediate rendition back to Mexico or Canada without a hearing for those caught at the border.  Right now, it costs to much to grab individuals at the fence line.  You gotta process them, feed them, give them medical care, provide a lawyer, a hearing, an appeal, etc...

2.  Need to really bring the hammer on the enablers.  First the coyotes - 10-15 years for human trafficking, active investigations, red flag operations, etc. -- bring the pee.  Then the businesses, fix E-verify, then start nailing guys (Yes, white republicans) to wall - we will notice.

3.  Break up CBP administration into elements that match the local political boundaries -- a CBP zone should match up with one or two local counties and integrate enforcement.

4.  Bounties - bring back cash bounties.

246 How do you get fired by Wal-Mart?

Stealing, even a candy bar, will do it.  Being chronically late or a frequent no-show will too.

Some lesser levels of tardiness and occasional no-show behavior is actually tolerated by WMT and expected by the staffing models.  The management knows they're forced to hire less than ideal entry level employees.  Any given day shift can probably adapt to a few no-shows with supervisors and assistant managers taking up slack.  Overnight shifts are somewhat more sensitive to no-shows and tardiness since that's when all the major restocking and floor maintenance happens.  Floor crews are typically very minimally staffed.  A no-show there results in something not getting buffed or scrubbed.

WMT is an interesting example of how to produce an acceptable result with less than ideal employees.

And thats when you know someone is deserving of respect - when "I" feel compelled to do it, because I rarely do that for anyone.

271 Stealing, even a candy bar, will do it. Being chronically late or a frequent no-show will too. Also, for checkers, your register being out of balance. They're more anal than most banks about cash drawers being in balance. I had a friend who was a checker at Walmart years and years ago. She said they basically didn't care if you were off by anything short of a dollar (their assumption was that coin rolls were off) unless it happened very frequently. Anything more than a dollar would get logged, and you only got so many times being "off" in a month before they'd fire you (presumably that's a rolling 30 day period, and not an actual calendar month, but I don't know that). There was also an upper limit (and it was a pretty low upper limit, something like $50.00) that being off like that once would get you fired.

283 Stealing, even a candy bar, will do it. Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) MFM Delenda Est at July 24, 2013 09:03 AM (/PCJa) Once, my wife and I were wheeling out our stuff at Walmart and a woman with a ton of stuff was in front of us. She was just about to clear the security panels at the sliding doors when two people stepped out from the sides and came up to her. They were not wearing the blue vests but had name tags on. They said, "Excuse me ma'am, we're from Walmart loss prevention. Can we talk with you please?" and pulled her cart to the side. She said, "What? What did I do?" Nice try, lady. Walmart RFID's almost everything in their store. Do not try stealing. She must have been spotted by plainclothes security and waited until she cleared the register and attempted to walk out. That's when they made their move.

284 The wife and I went to a CCW class the other night. The instructor started the class by listing about a half dozen fairly gruesome robberies/murders that had recently taken place in our city. The US should free them and their parents back to their homeland where they can be raised to value their cultural history. Time to end the US reverse colonization of the rest of the world! Meanwhile, for every lawbreaker that is sent home packing someone who is legally waiting for citizenship should be let in. Why would we as a nation want to reward people who don't follow our laws to the detriment of those that do?

300 Speaking of Walmart - when the installed the scanners at my local Walmart, every time I walked out of the place the scanner would go off, and the greeter would stop me and go through all the bags till he found what they forgot to deactivate. After about 5 times of this I just kept walking, ignoring the old man telling me to stop. Once telling him to call a cop as I kept walking. They never did anything to me, never chased me, and I assume never called a cop. Eventually they got their shit together and it stopped beeping all the time.

That assertion from her is news to me, since I am under the strong impression that the work is something between controversial and total bullshit. Even the IPCC has gone waffley on supporting the hockey stick. In any event, its a theory not fact. Theories get revised or abandoned all the time. The judge is a slow-motion intellectual crash test dummy about to hit the dashboard, and its amazing to me that this case is even before her (she normally tries shoplifting, small time crooks, family court issues etc. and she has no experience or knowledge of the science at issue).

339 AFTER presenting his son to the world, Prince William allowed the patient crowds a small insight into the tender relationship he has with his wife. Turning to the duchess as the pair concluded the brief media appearance, he said: "Come on, Poppet." The endearing nickname shows a softer side to the military man and future king. Earlier this year Kate sparked an instant trend among expectant mothers when she revealed that she had nicknamed her baby bump "grape" as a result of its small size in the early stages of her pregnancy. Shortly before their wedding in 2011 it was reported that the couple privately called each other "Big Willie" and "Babykins" - or the somewhat less cringeworthy Mr and Mrs Wales. Prince Charles and Camilla have long found it amusing to refer to each other in private as Fred and Gladys. Prince Philip apparently calls the Queen Cabbage or Sausage, while she supposedly calls him The Boss. http://goo.gl/xDSJTl

347 Exactly! We have citizens who don't deserved their citizenship because they have never earned it. Instead they sold it to a political party in exchange for 'benefits'.Liberals destroy the value of everything they touch because liberals don't see value, they see only leverage, something they can use to advance their own personal wealth/power/influence. Posted by: Pattern Found! at July 24, 2013 08:25 AM (ZW7Gr) Which is a round about way of noticing that we have failed morally as a people. Too few believe in truth, honesty, hard work, compassion or any other of what used to be common everyday virtues. God will soon correct it. Few, if any, are going to like it when he does. See Isaiah 9:10 prophecy for details.

Heh. My sister and BIL moved to a small community in Georgia. My BIL went over to the Sheriff 's Dept. and introduced himself as a new neighbor. He asked the Sheriff about rules concerning the discharge of firearms. The Sheriff replied, "Well, the number one rule is, Don't shoot in the direction my house". They got along fine.

355 81. et al., agreed. Now, were all the "good" Mexicans to leave Mexico, how on earth will that nation ever become "better" than what corruption presently exists? ...same goes for any nation or people. It isn't as if the North American Colonialists on the Atlantic all decided to leave their lives/homes in the British Colonies behind and go West, or North, or further South, let alone "back East" to Europe. No. They stood their ground. They knew and felt THAT hill was worth dying to claim as their own. And it wasn't the first time they'd had to take up arms, either. Just that they finally decided it wasn't for outside investors any longer (let alone some oligarchy pretending to be "better than thou") to determine the fate of Americans' best interests. Also, it isn't as if the wealthiest power mongers have the monopoly on "Because I Could." Nor does organized crime or even global corporations have the monopoly on "We Built That." But then, except for those who join our military, this generation of US Americans hardly have the guts to stand on constitutional ground and maintain their God given inalienable and constitutionally protected Rights, or "Standing" despite what corrupt revisionist US/globalist courts "allow". Each crack of the authoritarian whip, and the metromale mentality runs off whimpering with tail tucked between legs, whining, "Why me?!" I devote my own efforts to cleaning my own corner, just as I expect Mexicans to do in Mexico, etc. It isn't "isolationism" but pragmatism. The only sort of "interventionism" I'd support is the US and Mexican industries working on equal standing in terms of investment security and legal opportunity to own LAND AND GUNS in Mexico. Until then, no point in funding the prolonged corruption of any other nation while our own nation is so damned corrupt that we're sucked into ruin, with only our "hope" in the ultimate bubble not bursting. I spent a summer in Mexico City while a grad student. There is no more beautiful land than Mexico, every bit as magnificent a landscape as its northern neighbor, our grand ol' USA. It isn't as if Juarez represents the countryside of Mexico any more than Midland represents the countryside of the USA. I met the Mexican grad students who were home from the US universities for the summer, spending their summer providing free clinical dental care for the impoverished. There are as many wonderful people in Mexico as anywhere in the world. I'd hate to think that their only pursuit of happiness in life requires US citizenship. How is any people going to improve their lot in life by running away from their own nation's potential? It isn't as if everyone can immigrate into one single nation, whether the USA or any other. And if the good people don't stand their ground at home, they forfeit their homeland to the oligarchs, whether the old guard or the new cruel authoritarians. And finally, when immigrants bring their chip on the shoulder luggage stateside, expecting American taxpayer citizens to assume responsibility for every wrong in the world, because the immigrants are stamped with the "deserving" complex by politicians (whether governmental or any other bureaucratic organizations including churches), it isn't simply charity they demand from others. Their concept of "integration" and EO is to demand preferential treatment, for the jobs, the policies and law enforcement, tax funds and programs, everything in their own favor, because they suffered grievances, "more than you ever did" mentality. Mexican immigrant activists already demand reparations via their reconquista agenda and racial false superiority complex. No one is more "special" than anyone else. Start with "Equal Under the Law" with liberty and justice for all. So until the US Government branches each-and-all function constitutionally, until the US citizen voters force our government officials back on constitutional track, do not succumb to altering the constitution (again!) to appease politicians who themselves are the corrupt cause of America's greatest woes.

All very true. The question is, will the simmering disgust ever reach the boiling outrage level? Or perhaps, more to the point, will it happen while there is still the means to reform the Republic. I am doubtful.

I used to pick apples. I once worked with a white family that had raised their kids while working those kinds of jobs. Kind of interesting folks. They wouldn't put up with much from the farmers, because they could get the same kind of job on down the road. And that, is why we now have farmers that only hire Hispanics.

It just suddenly occurred to me that we absolutely must deport all of these children who grew up in the US and think "American."  Let them go  back to Mexico and see what life in a failed state is like and perhaps they might have the ideas and the ambition to fix it.  I agree it's unlikely since they probably went to US public schools and were indoctrinated, but it's not going to get any better down there anyway.

The GOP should have one focus when it comes to illegal immigration: Securing the Border.  Every question from a reporter should go back to securing the border.  It's politically popular, and it makes the Dems look bad because it's clear they actually want an open border.
