Happy Wednesday.

Yes, the pro-abortion crowd in Texas actually chanted "Hail Satan." There is video. Of course, this is the problem when you hire your protestors off of Craigslist. It turns out the type of people willing to be hired to support abortion aren't quality people. Go figure.

This NYTimes piece is more properly headlined: "Prosecution Witnesses in Zimmerman Trial Put The Prosecution On Defensive."

Erick Erickson is advising Republicans to "not get cute." He says it's "stupid" to push for repeal of the individual mandate.

A bunch of countries have rushed to deny Ed Snowden's requests for asylum, including Russia, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Brazil, Austria, Finland, Iceland, and Norway. Bolivian president Evo Morales' plane was diverted to Austria, as countries denied its passage through their airspace, a few hours after Morales said he would be willing to consider Snowden's asylum request.

Deadline looms in Egypt. Morsi isn't backing down.

HHS and employers have had four years to prepare for the Obamacare employer mandate. It's not that another year is going to enable them to sort out all their problems. It's the combination of two things: (1) the employer mandate is going to be bad, bad, bad for the economy; (2) Democrats are starting to worry about losing control of the Senate in 2014.

34 Gabe, did you bother to read the RedState piece or do you disagree with this: Republicans, please take note — that’s stupid. It won’t stop Obamacare. It simply gives the Democrats an out that will make the overall law both more expensive and less onerous to the American public. Do not get cute here. Americans sent Republicans to Washington to end Obamacare, not mend it. Repeal the whole damn thing, not parts. If Obama wants to unilaterally exempt employers, let the employers suddenly start pushing Americans off to health care exchanges and watch as Americans become enraged — suffering a government run exchange and an individual mandate. That will generate even more contempt for this law. The Democrats broke it, let them own it. Republicans have been handed a golden opportunity. Americans hate Obamacare and they are looking for leaders to stop it. End it, don’t mend it. Do nothing short of fully repealing it or, at a minimum, fully defunding it during the debt ceiling fight

67 As I have posted before, I work in IT for a health insurance conglomerate.  Yes, ACA is bad, very bad law.  We are spending a fortune on a lobbyist to work with Sibelius and her crew--just to get regulations that are even readable and usable.  Sometimes we are successful, but, then just to assert their authority, they dig in their heels and insist on writing gobbledegook. We added $100,000,000 to our IT budget just to do the exchanges.   We are going to eat that cost--it will not be passed onto anyone.  At the very beginning of this whole mess, I heard a knowledgeable source say that insurance premiums would be 12-15 times what they used to be---you can't add all these new benefits, people who will be paying pennies, pass out exemptions to favored groups, and force massively expensive exchanges without the rise in costs making the AGW hockey stick look flat.

I have been telling anyone who will listen.  If you smoke or use smokeless tobacco--stop, you will be charged a surcharge of at least 20%.  We already charge our employees that surcharge in an effort to get folks to quit.  If you are significantly overweight--lose the weight, you will be facing a surcharge.  If you don't exercise--start.  Get your controllable health issues under control.

Jeff,

Fair enuff I don't pay that much attention to who posts what links or their possible motivation. The game of link to a link who links back to you is not helpful ( not suggesting this was that ) to a stated cause . If I see that going on too often that blog no longer gets my clicks, just as cable tv hasn't gotten my money for over 7 years. I don't read EE PERIOD. He can be wrong or right on any issue he no longer makes money from me, I won't click him to wade through it all.  This is a war for country not clicking on links or hitting tip jars. Someone who gets it right does not always, would offer LGF as prime example. I would no sooner click there to see if charles gets something right than I would EE. Rubio another example he shot his wad, will he be right at some point on some issue in future? am sure he will but I won't care and I won't be listening. Am not suggesting that perfection is expected/demanded but geeze if you can't get the basic things right they are off  "my team".

I am sorry, but, your comment does not make sense to me.  I have not tossed up my hands.  I would love to see ACA gone.  I was merely stating facts as I know them.  Yes, ACA is stupid and a very bad barely readable law and a miserable set of regulations, but, Roberts sold America out by deeming it a tax...a tax that only some of us have to pay...there are four states that are exempt, the unions, Muslims because insurance is haraam, and so on and so forth.  But, it is the law until something changes that.

There is nothing stupid about quitting smoking or losing weight or exercising--that is just common sense.  My cousin with lung cancer who smoked since she was 12 years old wishes that she had never put a cigarette in her mouth.

Infowars (as well as some of the other fringe news groups) have been known to take a real news story of minor import and lace it with rumors or promotions of groups they like. Infowars seems to go so far as to fabricate such rumors itself, not with the hope that it will be taken as truth by most people, but just to create the rumor itself with all of the damaging possibilities that has.

Anyone who buys into infowars either gets this or thinks infowars is legit. In either case, it serves as a locus for rumor-generation.

The issue that I think Erickson kind of skips over is that portions of Obamacare are actually popular, at least amongst the LIVs.  Requirements to cover preexisting conditions, keeping "kids" on insurance until age 26, etc...those things aren't going to be politically possible to eliminate.

Gerald Seib had a good article in the WSJ yesterday talking about the younger House members who don't give a flying fuck about what Boehner wants as illustrated by the vote on the farm bill.  He mentioned that Tim Huelskamp from Kansas voted against the farm bill even though his area would've benefited from the subsidies but was pissed off about the food stamp portion of it which was much larger.  Evidently he got a lot of support from his district by doing this.  This was one of the guys who Boehner punished last year by kicking him off of the Agricultural committee and at least a couple morons said he was kind of a fuck up.  Sounds like he's doing things a lot more positively than that.  Anyway the thrust of the article is that representatives like him want no fucking part of comprehensive immigration reform and will fight it tooth and nail.

That said, if he runs in 2016, he is going to have an awful time trying to put 2012 behind him - especially the Ooops! moment. He was the only candidate that actually had responsibilities while running for office (excepting maybe Bachmann, but house members can go missing for long periods of time without consequence) and it showed.

Not to refight this again but:  Everything you said is true but Romney was a terrible choice for Repubs.  He's never been that popular with people nationally; the polls have consistently shown that.  Every time he was looking good against Gaylord Focker I still had this nagging feeling in my mind that there was no way people were ultimately gonna vote for him.  He would've made a better President than the JEF for sure, as would just about any moron here.  But just like with his father, there's no way a Romney will be President.

Of course, after his first debate against Rombley where he basically pulled a Perry for a half hour, Obama was able to recover. Of course, he had media cover where Perry wouldn't, but I'm pretty sure Perry won't let that happen again.

I *hope* that people will be able to see past the mediocre (with flashes of brilliance, but similar flashes of painful awkwardness) debate performance to see that he's the only one (with the possible exception of Scott Walker if he runs) who a) has actually run a State *well* and b) has figured out that the required fix is to actually shrink government- not just make it grow slower.

251 228 laowei,

Heh indeed.  We have a poster here expating over in the land of Chin who points that out.  Add in the interior border controls that still aren't completely relaxed it's a hell of a burden.

The thing is a lot of people who have not interacted with the Chinese or only are exposed to their culture via film do not grasp how intrinsic deference to parents is and how much of that deference has been lost in my lifetime.  The government is caught in a bind, they have cities laying empty, but are terrified of too much of what the cities already have.  The disparity in income potential is leading to atrocious inflation based on locale as well.

The Chinese maintain this status quo by refusing to allow the labor market to establish genuine equilibrium.

The Chinese people are not happy...there's every potential that if we stop gagglefucking our interior economy and focused on a shale boom and competing on industrial issues we could wreck them as quickly as we did the Soviets.

"I'm not sure they've thought that far ahead. Probably you'll have to put a policy number on your tax return." "So, if you just borrowed someone else's policy number, what would they do?" "In theory? At least one primary had an 11th Hour rules change (for which he should have been prepared, but wasn't) that kept him off the ballot. I'm not prognosticating here, though. I don't know that he'd be the nominee. I don't know that he'd deserve to be. I'd like to see more from Scott Walker- especially in regards to Immigration (Paul Ryan seems to be at least sort of hunky-dorey with the the "amnesty first" approach- I'd like to make sure Walker isn't), but he seems like a good choice. Other than that, and with due respect to the Horde, the pickings seem slim to me. I DO NOT WANT Rubio to run. I'm not sure Paul Ryan is up for the job, or Rand Paul. People have started talking up Ted Cruz, but I'd like him to succeed at something first (don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of what he's done, but he hasn't actually "won" on any issues). 305 I look around me at the new employees--the Millennials--they all look like they want to slit their wrists and check out. They have a useful college degree, they have great jobs, but, what they don't have is a future. One of the things I most lament is the Corporatization of IT. That is, it used to be that what you wanted in an IT guy (from infrastructure/networking, to sys-admin, to developers) was skill- preferably proven in some way. Now, people who are brilliant developers get skipped over because they didn't get a degree. On the flip side, there are people who paid way too much for a degree (and still don't actually know any real-world programming) who are getting those jobs, but they're not able to "get ahead" because IT jobs aren't paying what they were when those kids started college, or at least not what they were when those kids decided they wanted to go to college to "learn about computers."

Steven Showers of Ventura, Calif. was arrested this week, following a longstanding dispute over a 14-foot-tall, neon anti-Mitt Romney sign in his front yard.

The massive display has been irking members of the community since Showers, a self-described Christian Republican, put it up last August. It includes a call to "save the GOP" by exposing "Romney's racist heart," and advertises a website that claims that "Mormonism = Racism." According to a 2012 report in the Los Angeles Times, it cost Showers $2,000 to have the sign custom-made and hoisted with a crane onto a plywood structure on his lawn.

Complaints eventually led to a prolonged legal battle, which appeared to come to a head last month when a jury convicted Showers of eight misdemeanor counts of having unlawful signs, illegal electrical connections and other code violations, according to the Associated Press. Showers had until last week to pull the plug on the sign, or face up to 45 days in jail. He didn't, and on Monday he was taken into custody.

329 ObaCare, the demise of the American Citizenry Big Brother couldn't have timed the script better. Oh, too convenient coincidence... Global Corporatist investment OUTSOURCED from the US...ObaCare gives US industry "excuse" for cutting back employment, hours for those still "employed" part-time, and OF COURSE, limiting the corporate (we're people, too!) responsibility for its employees. It's one thing, criticizing union benefits or employee benefits for gilding the lily. Quite another, decapitating the US employee. Congress "authorized" the IRS to take everything you have and throw you in jail for non-compliance with ObaCare "universal" squalor. No thanks to the neoconservative Chief Justice who won't sustain the definition of any word, but caves in for revisionism. "TAX" Americans to death, by any means necessary. "It's for their own good"? WHOSE OWN GOOD, global corporations. NOT any citizen, regardless of nationality. Nationality? That is the point of the amnesty via "citizenship" for criminal aliens by enforcing OPEN BORDERS. Revisionism. Who the hell needs Constitutional Governance when authoritarians are in charge? Sure, there are contrasting labels in order to sucker every idiot into buying the tripe, whether "progressive" or "neoconservative". Hell. That sales campaign, same product sold under various labels, is like splitting the hair between Wahhabi and whatever latest term for the insanely puritanical Islamist fascism which is actually a relatively recent and illegitimate Sunni branch taking the House of Saud's successful political lead in monopolizing power through religious fanaticism. The agenda is the same sect's sponsorship of terrorism and mass murder, victimizing citizenry in order to rule the world with absolute power over mind and matter. "One Voice" (Obama's administrative slogan). Much blame rests at the feet of Western Corporatism for influencing the US political agenda to comply with globalist aims at the severe expense of life, liberty and property of the REDUNDANT US CITIZEN TAXPAYER. ...as if the globalist monopolizers of finance and industry "need" our taxes! They'll take them again and again, "Because I Could." But though all funds are welcomed glut, the 1% globalist elites don't need our taxes any more than they need US employees. The US Constitution is the Achilles Heel of Globalism, the single vulnerable point on the Beast. However our nation has chosen our own doom is not merely a point for historical speculation if, indeed, we are to overcome our own corruption in order to survive, and in order to maintain the Light of Liberty in Life. Mark 9:47 it is better to pluck it out than allow it to destroy you ...whether the Patriot Act, DHS, TSA, IRS, ObaCare... every authoritarian bureaucracy juxtaposed above the Supreme Law of the Land in order to parasitically convert our US Constitutional Governance into a dictatorship subsidiary of globalist interests. During the 1980s, our First Lady's advice still resounds, "JUST SAY NO." Words have intrinsic meaning, no matter what illusion that deceivers would impose.

366 Patterico....   http://tinyurl.com/ksg2l5k

I started to write a post questioning how a President can unilaterally suspend the collection of a duly passed tax, but then I decided to read the whole article I linked. This is the kind of diligence you get for your blogging dollar, folks! Anyway, the article says:

The 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act allows the Obama administration to set the starting date for the employer coverage reporting requirement thatÂ’s the linchpin of the mandate. The administration had not yet announced a date, one of the officials said. Still, enforcement of the mandate had been widely expected to begin in 2014, the official said.

I guess IÂ’ll take their word for it. If this is right, maybe we can just delay enforcement . . . forever.

I find him to be rather pompous and publicly pious,  which is not a good combination for a national candidate.  I also do not like his habit of referring to former Governor Daniels as "my predecessor," rather than my name, as if he is trying to distance himself from him.

I loved the headline over at Drudge the other day:   "Mandela family slams media 'vultures'."

Oh please.   They LOVE it.    That whole family of commie famewhores probably wishes the old man could die two or three times a year, just for the attention it brings.

449 438 - They aren't the State though it gonna try and use them for their wannabe cop theory and I suppose that since GZ had some education in law\criminal matters he must be making up his story.

Defense = arguing the facts
Prosecution = arguing a theory

458 No Red State Donkeys or RINOS in the Senate, and the fact that the Donks have the Blue states won't matter. There are more Red States than Blue - this is where to concentrate our strategy. Gives us control of the Senate - period.

But then this is too simple so nobody gets it.

And I apologized below the pic. Thing is, as daughter said, he looks so much better with his smile than she does. Mrs said, just looking at them, 'd rather have him for my judge!

468 @79 the article you refer to is in response to a very real situation. Please read this http://tinyurl.com/mvwjb2r "In addition, the parties approved of U.S.-Russian cooperation in this field in 2013-2014, which envisages exchange of experience including in monitoring and forecasting emergency situations, training of rescuers, development of mine-rescuing and PROVISION OF SECURITY AT MASS EVENTS." Like inforwars or not, they do break actual news stories from time to time. The infowars article caused such a blowback the press had to spin the news here. "No Russian Security Guards at American ‘Mass Events’ – US Agency" http://tinyurl.com/qgblnjs I guess it all depends on if you trust Obama and his administration regarding upholding the US Constitution. Personally, I do not. Just my 2 cents.
