— Gabriel Malor Happy Wednesday.
"Slutbag," "b--ch," "t--t," "c--t" <-- words a Democratic comms director used to describe a lowly intern. Tell me again about that War on Women. The comms director in question defender herself by saying she thought it was an "off the record" conversation. Everyone knows it's alright to call women slutbags as long as you do it off the record, right?
The new EPA chief is tired of talking about jobs: "Can we stop talking about environmental regulations killing jobs, please?" Sure thing, lady. Just as soon as you stop issuing environmental regulations that kill jobs.
There's a bizarre interview with Sen. McCain at the New Republic. I can't tell at what points he's joking or not. For example, "[a]m I happy? IÂ’d like to be president of the United States." Okaaaaay.

Morning, all.
No story today, I'm afraid - I'm working on a longer piece that isn't quite ready, and I tipped back a few wet ones last night, so not really in any shape to put something together on short notice.
BTW, I don't think Ace ever reads my e-mails (not that he ought to care what I have to say), so if one of you cob-loggers who has his ear would tell him I think his Ashamed of Patriotism post is one of the best things I've read by him in a while, I'd appreciate it.
OK, one quick: someone, I don't know who, once described Katharine Hepburn's acting style: "She traverses the gamut of emotions from A to B."
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Why don't you educate us, then? Tell us of the great conservative successes of McCain, Graham and Rubio, won't you? Where have they stopped, or even slowed, the growth of Leviathan? Where have they expounded conservative principles?
Or just, you know, keep shilling for the GOP. I'm sure Karl Rove appreciates your efforts.

This!
I lost it on the phone over the weekend with a GOP solicitor looking for yet another donation. "Look", I told him, "when you ASSHOLES start learning how to win elections THEN I'll give you more money- until then you'll not get ONE STINKING DIME from me!". At that point I should have just hung up on him, but I was on a roll: "You guys KNOW that you'll be running against Hillary in 2016, so why aren't you out there NOW defining her as a cold, aloof, uncaring, bureaucrat who sacrificed the lives of four brave foreign service officers to cover her ass and protect her personal political ambitions? WHY?? The Democrats started defining Romney as Richy Rich a whole YEAR before the election and THEY WON!! So SMARTEN UP!!"
Then I hung up on him.

OK, I'll play along:
Candidate "A" runs on my ideal platform of balanced budgets, strong defense and cutting entitlement programs to the marrow. I GOTV for him and vote for him.
He gets in office. Within a year, he makes noises about "compromise" and "accomodation," but I note that, without exception, his compromises always advance the Democrat platform.
Then, when he's up for election again, he tries moving back to his original stance, the one I supported him for. OR, he runs again and touts his record of "reaching across the aisle to get things done."
He's running. His opponent is a Democrat loon. I don't have the time or money to run myself.
So, smart guy, why should I vote for Candidate A?

I as also wondering if he was either losing his marbles or if he has some sort of fatal disease (like cancer came back) the way he was desperately pushing immigration reform. As if he needed this one last bit to seal his legacy or something (since this is something he's been pushing for years).
As for the "Hillary is a rockstar!!" comment - McCain and other lifer legislators have more respect for each other than their constituents or the general public. It's that simple - it's an exclusive club and they take care of their own, provided they don't get all icky extreme like Ted Cruz.

And yet they refuse to leverage that fact to their advantage. That's what drives me crazy about these people. Look, I don't care conservatives back the Republican Party, the Libetarian Party, the Conservative Party, or if somebody goes out and re-animates the Straight Talking American Government (STAG) Party- whatever party opposes the Democrats the first thing they have to realize is that it is not about making your gur win, it is about making the other guy LOSE!
That is how elections work in today's America.

You know, I recollect that there was a fellow - his name was Gabriel Gomez, I believe - who ran for Massachusetts Senate as a Republican. Which was all well and good. Of course, before entering the race, he had been an Obama bundler, had written a groveling letter to Dem governor Deval Patrick asking to be considered as an interim senator and even expressed the opinion that he had no problem with Obama's proposals on gun control.
**puts finger to cheek**
I wonder why anyone would doubt such a fellow's conservative bona fides?

If the country is going to hell in a handbasket, it doesn't matter much if the pedal is "all" the way to the floor or not, and when you know that the approved Republican candidate has zero intention of ever even trying to apply the brakes, it seems that it really doesn't matter.
With an unConsitutional Obamacare mandate on track to dominate our lives and generations after us, the Republicans field Mitt Romney, Father of Romneycare, to oppose a first term loser.
With our Southern border more porous than a Chinese sieve, the Republicans are busy planning to cooperate with the Dem agenda to allow millions of illegals to be rewarded with citizenship (with perks that "real" citizens won't get).
Sorry, I don't want to play anymore.

I love you J.J. and right now my BP is through the roof, so I get it. I truly do. I am done with the national GOP. I retain my GOP registration because of primary voting.
However, in fair and honest elections, which are rare--not as rare as the sparkling unicorn farts used to co-gen the electricity for electric cars, but, still rare, voting for the GOP has its merits. In Oklahoma, which has fair and honest elections complete with Voter ID, we now have both Senators, all our Congress Critters, the Governor, and both houses of the legislature in GOP hands. This happened because Oklahoma is a naturally Conservative state and without cheating the Dims can't retain a stranglehold on power.
As I post, over and over again, to those of you living in states with problematic elections--get involved in your election boards, clean things up there and you can do more good for yourselves than stewing about secession and revolution. It is a long, slow process, but, it works. Perhaps, Soona or Wheatie can recall when and why Oklahoma reformed its election process--I seem to recall it was in response to having a Dem Governor who was so corrupt that he went to prison. I think it was the early 80s, but, I could be wrong. You see Oklahoma is still quaint enough that seeing a Governor go to prison was a wake-up call, not business as usual the way it is in Illinois. Since then, one by one, the big Dems have lost their grip on the state--they still have some power, but, if you want to be a Dem in Oklahoma, you had best be a True Blue Dog or your days are numbered.

If they had any sense in their empty heads they'd use this to learn about what fucking lowlife grifters the Clintoons are. Here you have somebody like Huma who could probably use some positive input from somebody like the bloated alcoholic in pantsuits whom she used to work for and put up with all her drunken stupidity in trying to figure out how to deal with her predator husband, and tosses out an innocuous comment about her. Only to have Rodham, who is probably irritable as they try to dry her out as step one in the gargantuan effort to make that dust elephant presentable for 2016's quixotic quest, act like this Arkansas embodiment of the Snopes, only more dysfunctional, are unapproachable royalty instead of human garbage whom you have to worry about stealing the silverware.
For as bad as Weiner is, and he is one sick puppy, he doesn't even come close to the unindicted rapist from Hope Arkansas and his enabling wife, whom a lot of dumbasses in this country look up to like a bunch of brainless fools.

It's easy to dismiss individual upset citizens as cranks or extremists, when the opinions are filtered through these hangers-on. Then gradually, the elected GOP start to mellow. And those that don't get a note about a file NSA has.
I also have another point: democrats are not all immoral anti-American far leftists. YET they seem to stick together through elections. Why is that? Many pro-life democrats were betrayed by Obamacare, yet they go ahead and vote democrat anyway. Meanwhile, here we are with Third Party threats and stay home threats and anger directed at those who do not do what we want? Why aren't they, and why don't we have patience?
I am not saying that it is wrong to be angry. I am wondering why we get mad at our candidates and the other side doesn't.

If you insist on the "there's absolutely no difference" fallacy, it's impossible to discuss. There are SOME differences, and they are exemplified by Lee, Paul, Cruz, etc., even Palin, Bolton, other non-elected figures. It's a lot easier to win our own Party than start a new one. I vote a straight Republican ticket every time here in NC, not because I love them all, but because I know their opponents.
Posted by: Lincolntf at July 31, 2013 08:20 AM (ZshNr)
So your rebuttal is that the exeception proves the rule? Ted Cruz is a nifty fellow, but I refuse to vote for a Chris Christie because Ted Cruz is a Republican.
As for Rand Paul, hell, he's shown himself to be just as much a political opportunist as the worst of them.
Bottom line..."we" won the party back in 1980 and the Establishment has been busy ever since then taking it back. Hell, it's debateable as to whether "we" even won back in 1980...Reagan was forced to accept Bush as VP to get support from the Establishment Rs.
Your rebuttal would make more sense if the GOP leadership didn't act all embarassed that there are unapologetic defenders of conservatism in their sacred party ranks.

A third party, at this point in time, would simply guarantee a Dem win, just as Perot won the Presidency for Clinton.
What we really need to do is seize power in the GOP. I had hoped the Tea Party movement was going to do just that. The concentration on fiscal issues and smaller government without a lot of SoCon issues to muddy the waters was something I could get on board with. Alas, that movement has fizzled.
I have been hoping the new libertarian movement might help as well, but it hasn't seemed to catch on nearly as well as I thought it might.
In any case, the only real path forward that I can see is a slow takeover of the GOP by primarying every RINO incumbent. It's just that it would be easier if we could do this under the banner of a "movement" because it would be easier to get our LIV on board.

Nope, Huma was already Hillary's "bestie". It was getting way too much notice, so they flailed around for someone to marry Huma--the guy had to be blackmailable and malleable (check--but they underestimated just how deep his obsession with showing off his junque really was), completely uninterested in a real marriage (check), and be a Democrat with a career they Clintons could help (check--until he imploded with the dick clicks). They (Hillary/Huma) kept the Weinermobile Marriage going with massive amounts of duct tape, a quick pregnancy, a friendly press, and finally with the pretty shiny promise of Antknee being Mayor of NYC to keep him on the reservation. But, the need to click his dick was more compelling than his shot at being Mayor.

What's useless is voting for Graham, McCain, etc. thinking anything is ever going to change. Are you advocating voting for McCain, Graham, etc. ("the problem and hindrance to their stated cause") or not? In many instances, these people are fully entrenched and aren't going anywhere. And therein lies the problem. Huge war chests, support of the establishment, LIVers keep them in. It's either them or the donk. And this is where I've now drawn the line because I'm done. The message will be sent one way or another. Does this country ever move to the right? One inch? A half an inch? No, it does not. It is in constant leftward motion. As JJ says, the Republicans are just a wing of the Democrat party. Now more than ever. It's got to stop if there is any chance for America to survive. And repeatedly casting votes for Republicans who are not true to our ideals isn't going to get us anywhere.

That was partially my point. Huma has a long term relationship with Rodham and for the fatass in pantsuits to take such a high handed attitude toward her efforts to deal with a sexually weird excuse for a husband requires a willful ignorance of that entire dynamic. But the Clintoons don't have "friends" per se; only people they can use or manipulate.

I would still like to see someone post a list of substantive policy differences between the Rovian Republican party establishment ruling class and the Democrat party; differences that are backed publicly by the major players in the Republican party. Until then, I can't see much difference in the final outcome of an election being influenced by my vote or non-vote.
For example, having Sen Cruz speak against Obamacare is not a sufficient condition to make the parties differentiable.
Having said that, I will continue to vote R, but only because I believe most Republicans are not quite as evil as all Democrats are.

I'm as big a Palin fan as you can find but her shilling for McRINO in 2010 is a major stain on her judgement which she has yet to address. I'm sure she feels a debt of gratitude to the senile fool but fails to realize that he successfully ended her political career by enlisting her for his delusional half-assed run for President.

Ah yes, I got much the same a few weeks ago. Yesterday I received my official party "survey," wherein they ask questions like (to paraphrase), "Do you think Obama sucks?" and "Do you think we suck less?" Then you get to the very end and, of course, they're asking for money (which is the whole reason for the damn survey in the first place). They give you three options:
1) Yes, I'd like to donate to the GOP to help defeat Obammy's leftwing agenda, and here's how much I'll give.
2) No, I would not like to participate at this time, but I'll give you a voluntary donation of this amount anyway. (Love this one -- wtf?)
or
3) No, I would not like to participate at this time, but here's a $15 processing fee to pay for the processing of my survey.
There is no fourth option.
I naturally chose Option 2, and in the space where you're supposed to input how much you're going to donate, I wrote a big fat zero. I filled in the rest of the survey, just because, and I'm going to send it back to them so they have to pay the postage. And I'm going to do what I did last time, which is I'm going to take Reince Preibus' letter -- which was included with the survey -- and I'm going to respond to each passage with a snarky, pithy, angry, or dismissive comment. I'll stuff the letter back in the envelope with the money grubbing survey and send teh whole thing back to DC.
It's therapeutic. I recommend y'all do it, too, if you get the chance.

What would a third party with actual sane policies do? How would it perform against the Free Shitters and the Communists?
What has to be remembered about the birth of the Republican party is that it replaced a dead party. Whigs went away, Republicans came in....
The difference today is that too many wealthy-type people are invested heavily in the Repubs. Most of them, I think, would go Democrat instead of new-party, as their positions are so much alike.

I think he viewed that as a way to get us icky conservatives on board before she started to attract all the attention and get that vain cocksucker so jealous he had to sic Schmidt and Wallace on her to torpedo the whole fucking ship. I was pretty naive before 2008 and couldn't figure out why conservatives were being so mean to McStain; after that campaign I couldn't figure out why they hadn't tarred and feathered him and ridden him out of the party on a rail. Yeah, my dad got an email yesterday that REALLY pissed him off. It was titled "PAST DUE" and basically was a snarky, snide, shithead little email about you're not up to date on NRCC dues. "I need to know, have you given up?"
I've gotten the fucking "Past Due" notes for months. It's ridiculous. And I've told them that, too. I know they don't read anything I write to them -- they just look for a check or a CC number and throw it away if none is included -- but you'd think after the fourth or fifth expletive-laden rant they'd get the message.

"President Obama does not have the authority to choose which parts of the law are enforced. In 1975, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously against President Richard Nixon’s inflated claims that he could selectively carry out the law. But going to court to keep presidents in line is slow and necessitates finding litigants to sue the president. The framers gave Congress a more practical way to resist a power-hungry president: defunding. Defunding is precisely what members of Congress are supposed to do when a president breaks the law. It’s checks and balances in action. Two centuries ago, the chief architect of the U.S. Constitution James Madison declared in Federalist No. 58 that Congress’s authority over spending is the “most complete and effectual tool” to stop a president from grabbing more power than the Constitution allows. "

The question is, when 2nd quarter is revised down (which it will be, b/c it always is), will it fall below 1%? Oooh, I'm on the edge of my seat! What's going to happen!

So nice it needed to posted twice. IN FULL
This is what's bugging us. NOT that now and then compromise has to happen to get anything done. Or that a Rep/Sen can decide once in a while that what they used to think was ok is now (after thought and briefings by staff) not so ok.
IT'S BECAUSE THEY DO IT EVERY FUCKING TIME AND KEEP ON DOING IT AND DENY DOING IT AND THEN WHEN ELECTION TIME COMES THEY LIE ABOUT IT.
That's why were Mad and not Taking it anymore.

As somebody who did consulting work for DFAS during GWB's second term, you wouldn't believe the sloth and lethargy that exist as SOP in the federal government. Most of the people there are highly competent and smart; they're just part of a bureaucracy which saps the initiative out of everybody through resistance to do anything positive.

A large part of the reason that people are so confrontational on the Internet is that they think they are safe and out of range - so they say things they would never say face to face to someone who was carrying a twelve gauge pump.
The civilizing influence of firearms can't be underestimated.
Part of the reason that Democrats want to take guns away from people is that they are assholes, and they fervently wish to make the world safe for assholes.
I on the other hand want the world to be a dangerous place for assholes - to force them to stay hidden - as I would prefer them to be.

OMG, Black Oak, home of the Kentucky Hill Billies not to be confused with the Kentucky Ridge Runners. Apologies to anyone from Kentucky, but, the Hillbillies versus the Ridge Runners was an actual thing, to outsiders they were just poor rednecks from Kentucky up to work in the Gary/East Chicago steel mills and refineries that were indistinguishable from one another. But, woe to anyone who called a Ridge Runner a Hillbilly or vice versa.

I assume that there was a significant migration of hilljacks from KY up to work in the mills because I'm pretty sure that Bill Monroe and his brother Charlie were located there at some point and they wouldn't have been there if there wasn't a significant number of people who wanted to hear bluegrass.

I actually got to see Journey a few years ago when they were touring with Def Leppard. The new frontman sounds JUST like steve Perry, btw; it was awesome.
Anyway, it was just a week or so after a local state trooper was killed in the line of duty in Manchester. The whole group autographed a guitar to be auctioned off to raise funds for his family, and then they dedicated their performance of "Lights" to him.
When the lights go down in the city,
And the sun shines on the bay,
Oh, I wanna be there in my city...
Still brings a tear to my eye when I hear it on the radio.

Yes, klassy! Although it's not technically Weiner and Huma live in a a "luxurious, $3.3 million Manhattan pad owned by a deep-pocketed Democratic donor." It is described as a "sprawling, 12th-floor Park Avenue trophy residence" owned by Rosen Partners LLC, which is headed by close Clinton pal Jack Rosen.
There's nothing Huma has that can't be attributed to the Clintons. Except for the Muslim Brotherhood stuff, of course.

Unemployment remains at the same level as population grows, fewer people added to payroll, labor participation rate continues to fall.
News media continues to report how health insurance will cost more, business will layoff to avoid the new cost levels of health insurance, business not hiring because of fear of higher cost of insurance, yet Obama promised HE PROMISED that health care would cost less and everyone shrugs and says, 'ya, so what are ya gonna do'.
News media continues to report Gov can't get it's shit together over health insurance exchanges, and no one knows what's going to happen in 9 weeks when people start trying to buy it.
Next year is another election year, health insurance is a huge question mark, long time democrats decide to retire, the GOP is STILL without a clue and everyone shrugs, 'what are ya gonna do'?
DETROIT! declares bankruptcy, unions demand their pensions because they were promised pensions in order to buy labor peace for SIXTY YEARS, and now the money has run out, and everybody shrugs 'cuz 'what are ya gonna do'?

Whiting, Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, Calumet city.
I'm from Porter county and we all knew that once you could smell the coke plants (or crossed into Lake county), you weren't in Kansas anymore, Toto.
US 20, US 6, US 12, The South Shore Railroad, USS Steel, Inland Steel, Bethlehem Steel.
The sinews of this nation were formed there for many years. It's all gone now. Just sheet mills and specialty steel smelters and one? refinery. Except for the scum and riff raff left behind. I would guess that Gary must look as bad as Detroit does now.
