1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, August 26, 2013.  (And here is one I know the Morons will love).  On this day in 1346 the military supremacy of the English longbow over the French combination of crossbow and armored knights was established at the Battle of Crécy.

2 Outrage of the day.  Private lobbyists in 20 States get pensions and sometimes healthcare from the State. These are not all blue States either.  They do not give a comprehensive list of the States, only a few.  So I went out and found a different article and here are the States:

States allowing at least one lobbying group into the pension system: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Washington

11 Former first class petty officer convicted of espionage in an FBI sting operation.  A different article identified him as a cryptology petty officer so I seriously doubt if he knew a whole lot about "tracking submarines and ships".  Another thing I wonder about is why he was still only a first class PO after 20 years in the Navy.  Something about this whole case smells.  In the past I would have automatically assumed he was guilty as hell.  But that went in the garbage can with this DOJ and corrupt administration.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.

You know, itÂ’s always a treat looking over the weekend posts and seeing just how beyond hope this country is.  It makes my own personal failures seem insignificant in comparison.

Speaking of failures and beyond hope – as even the most patient of directors would admit, working with Marilyn Monroe was an ordeal that would drive strong men to tears.  During the filming of 1959s Some Like It Hot, Billy Wilder nearly lost his mind dealing with MonroeÂ’s insecurities, chronic lateness and insistence on going over her lines dozens of times before shooting a take.  Although privately deriding her as having “breasts like granite and a brain like Swiss cheese,” in interviews he adopted a more world-weary attitude.  “My Aunt Minnie would always be punctual and never hold up production,” he confessed to columnist Sheilah Graham, “but who would pay to see my Aunt Minnie?”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

What is amazing is that there is scientific evidence that yes, genetics and diet play a significant part in behavior, and outcomes  for certain ethnic groups when they are exposed to dramatic changes in diet.

The problem is, politicians as  a species, are too dumb to understand the nuances of science, and will say things like this.

Of course, the entire governing philosophy of the left is based on  poor understanding of  a wide variety of knowledge and information, but nobody can say anything about that, because... well, you know why.

There's an infamous story that Marilyn could not remember her line during the scene where she's opening a drawer looking for booze.   Legend has it that Wilder finally got fed up and taped the line in the bottom of the drawer.   Next take?   She opened the wrong drawer.

And if there was any question as to why Wilder still put up with her, well:

Posted by: Captain Hate on an iPhone at August 26, 2013 07:36 AM (bAPBF) The "My Sweet Lord" vs. "He's So Fine" battle is a classic. The Shirelles took George Harrison to court claiming he copied their song. The legal battle took years and when it was over, the judge ruled in favor of the Shirelles, agreeing that in fact Harrison had lifted (intentionally or otherwise) the first several bars of their song and used it on his. Ironically, during the years it took the case to wind its way through the courts, Harrison's Dark Horse Publishing had actually acquired a catalog of song publishing that included "He's So Fine." At the end of it all, Harrison wound up paying himself! The only people who got rich were the lawyers.

70 The trash-on-the-mall issue really bothers me, and really points out the basic differences between the conservative and progressive ideologies.  I attended one of Glenn Beck's large rallies and was amazed that no trash was left behind.  The event organizers had people stationed along the reflective pool with trash bags, but most people just carried their trash out with them.  The only trash I saw on my walk to the metro station was from the anti-rally protesters.  On the other hand, every liberal/progressive rally results in the mall looking like a dump.  Conservatives believe in being responsible for oneself, even in small matters like taking care of one's own trash.  Progressives always expect someone else to clean up their mess.  From this example we see which ideology really cares about others and which ideology is basically selfish.

78 Does this mean Obama backs down, or does his narcissism feel slighted and he does something stupid? Do you really believe the fucking retard has enough awareness to understand why something like that should be offensive to him? Whoever is pulling this puppet's strings will either keep it from him or make him aware depending on what best serves our enemy's agenda. This administration is not legitimate.

I recall hearing Harrison try to explain it.  His explanation was not believable.

If he had merely said "well, I guess I never realized how  that tune came to me," I might have more respect for him.  Instead, he tried talking about differences between the two songs that anyone with  ears could tell you were not differences at all.

89 One of those Syrian articles talks about 'proportionate response' so I guess we get to drop as many chemical weapons as Syria used, one for one, tit for tat because that would be fair.

Another of those Syrian articles talked about 'escalation', so we hit Syria, Russia hits back, because that would be fair.

There is also a news report about Russia establishing a naval base on Cyprus because they can, and Cyprus needs the money.

So, it looks to me like Obama could lose South Korea and the Pacific if he does it right. That would leave open the question of oil supplies from the middle east. Anyone think Obama would defend Saudi Arabia to keep oil supply available?

120 So ugh. Lousy weekend. Had to go to my niece's baptism (which is OK) but it was at an Episcopalian church (not OK). But even at that, hey, I can sit through it for an hour right? Things are going OK until some elderly guy gets up for the sermon. He starts talking about rebelling against authority and how as a 24-year-old deacon in his first job he was "left in charge" of St. John's church in DC in June/July 1963 while his bosses were on vacation. So he decided to plan with the organizers of the civil rights march, on his own, even though he knew his bosses probably wouldn't like it. And when he got in touch his boss, they were angry...so the guy called the bishop who then gave his assent to get involved. In other words, this then-kid overreached his authority and put his church in a political situation that the bishop had to follow through on lest the church become a target. And the way the sermonizer was talking, the march never would have happened without his help. Is that part of the humility of service I'm always hearing? Then the sermonizer got overly political and started lamenting the SCOTUS ruling on the VRA, and the "unecessary death of Trayvon Martin." Way to fuck up the experience of my niece's baptism, tool. Good thing there was lots of bourbon at the reception.

I completely understand, JT.  And I'm not saying that I wouldn't have done just as you, in your shoes.  But we're always talking here about the left hijacking anything in order to further their political views / goals.  Obviously the head-shaking didn't make a difference to this fool - in fact, he probably took it as affirmation that he was "afflicting the comfortable" and "speaking truth to power."  A stronger expression of your unwillingness was needed; someone to stand up and deliberately and slowly clear their throat.  Or a walkout.

As you said, it would have embarrassed your sister.  And I probably would have stewed in silence, too.  But by not expressing your displeasure, it just frees the tool to inflict his nonsense on another family.

145 57 ...just reviewing the bio of Booker T. Washington and of George Washington Carver. Their Black Republican approach to equal rights via industrial/agricultural education/production and wealth for all Blacks as GROUNDING toward equal rights advancement withing society/whites vs. WEB Du Bois Northern intellectual/militant barrage into the Ivy League via NAACP. Regardless, on the surface from wiki, neither Du Bois nor Washington or Carver espoused a need (or desire) for a Welfare State, as private interests' philanthropy provided serious economic means towards building schools and higher educational institutions for blacks who were organizing their united efforts in various professional fields including commerce. Though Blacks born during slavery voted a strong Republican block after the Civil War, I read (online, grain of salt) that Frederick Douglass was Democrat. Even were that the case prior to the Civil War, afterwards, he supported the Republican Fremont's POTUS campaign (Fremont's initial political appts. were made by Polk, Democrat. Obviously, a lot of upheaval duringt he mid-19th Century.) Thereafter, Douglass was on the 1872 presidential campaign ticket of the Equal Rights Party ticket led by Victoria Woodhull. (It was also known as the People's Party, the Cosmo-Political Party and the National Radical Reformers.) Douglass was a firm believer in the equality of all people, whether black, female, Native American, or recent immigrant, famously quoted as saying, "I would unite with anybody to do right and with nobody to do wrong." The assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. seems to have terminated the E Pluribus Unum sense in favor of the subsequent retrograde propaganda of racial superiority (according to your own hue) selling the Black Nation pie in the sky, previously touted as Pan Africanism (as if the various African tribes and nations agree to unite as one African Nation). Tell that to Communist China, Africa's leading investor. As if Africa could nationalize against imbedded global communist interest. Besides, according to US media, "Africa is not a country," the MSM propagandized to attack Palin '08 for referencing a global region's position on their poised political question. now you see it now you don't

Begging your pardon but, do those two words in combination not define a Culture?

I would be happy to discuss it at length over at my place, please feel free as I respect your opinion!

WOW. I did not know that about Klein. By the way, he was portrayed by John Belushi as "Ron DeCline" in the Python/SNL film "The Rutles," co-produced by, if I'm not mistaken, George Harrison.

A wonderfully funny film.  Far, far better than This Is Spinal Tap, IMO.  Did you know that the Rutles music Neil Innes (Ron Nasty) wrote was so close to the "Beatle sound" that for a while Apple Corps fought to deny him any money because, they argued, his music fell under Beatles copyright?

151 Posted by: @JohnTant at August 26, 2013 08:27 AM (hNNJ5) To be clear, there are three synods of the Lutheran church, WELS, UBER conservative, Missouri conservative, and ELCA who push the libtard agenda. Now all things are in degrees and percentages but I would bet you were at an ELCA church.

154 Any heartfelt belief is, almost definitionally, religious and cultural. Those wearing a "religion" as a once-a-week cloak aren't religious in the Enthsiasm sense. But true believers can't truly, e.g., believe Love God as Parent, everybody as siblings, and then go out abusing others.

Cult, religion: a system of religious or spiritual beliefs, especially an informal and transient belief system regarded by others as misguided, unorthodox, extremist, or false, and directed by a charismatic, authoritarian leader Culture, the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc.

I was raised in the Missouri Synod branch back in the '50s. I used to get confused as to why the branches would argue with each other -- but I totally get it now. Although, I thought the Missouri branch was the most conservative (by which I mean strict).

157 We're trying to get ready for a cold Winter and for collapse of the economy. Put new insulation in this Spring and picked up another Eden Pure heater at an estate sale. Got one of the 500 dollar machines for $75. We got a little one last year. We really like it in spite of the never ending harrassment from the company to c'mon buy just one more.

The Missouri Synod branch excommunicated my dad for not attending church frequently enough (he worked nights, 7 days a week driving a newspaper bundle delivery route). I found out about that when I got out of the Navy. First thing I did was go to the church and demand they also include me in that category.

164 Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at August 26, 2013 08:41 AM (zF6Iw) No offense taken, of course. And the sermon was so inappropriate that my SiL went around to folks at the reception apologizing for it. I think this kind of points to the worldview differences we conservatives have with liberals. We just don't like politics intruding on every facet of life, whereas liberals don't mind (or actively encourage) such things. So yeah, we shook our heads and such instead of making a scene.

Normally I wouldn't believe a word out of that dog-eating cokehead's blowhole.  But I have no doubt quislings like Boehner and Miss Lindsey tell him exactly that.  Worthless, bloated bastards, all  of them.  That 2 million biker ride ought to end up by dragging  every GOP asshole down the length of the Mall tied to their road pegs before drowning them all in the reflecting pool.

166 #160 That in a nutshell illustrates the worthlessness of the Repuke party under Priebus. A well run party would get in front of the story and either refute the JEF or identify the fuckheads saying this shit.

167 @155 I see that we are going to have to disagree with honor. When a supposed Religion includes a system of Law and a set of behavioral systems it becomes a Culture whether it includes the positive attributes you quote or not! When it imposes it's own set of Religious Rules, Behavioral Rules and Inviolable Laws it becomes a Culture! I applaud your definition of a Culture but, I fear you are confusing "Cultured" with a Culture!

175 My wife and I visited a friend's church out of state this weekend and he had a guest speaker in to teach.  He was going hot and heavy on the curses that this country is bringing on itself, then would stop, take two side steps away from the lectern, and say "...speaking as a private individual and not as clergy, Obama is determined to bring division every place he can"  --and then take two side steps back to the mic.
