— Gabriel Malor Happy Monday. Today is National Underwear Day, so wear some.
ISYN, obnoxious congressional troll Rep. Peter King (R-NY) is exploring a presidential bid. In January, he threatened to quit the GOP if his fellow congressmen held up Sandy relief for the purpose of excising the portions sending money to things like, say, fisheries in Alaska instead of areas actually hurt by Sandy. He was also one of the few GOP congressmen to join the President's push for gun control.
In related news, Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump are heading to Iowa this weekend. So is Claire McCaskill.
I'm not sure that we covered last week's Guardian scoop on NSA's XKeyscore capabilities here at the HQ. We might have, but I don't recall and after the Guardian's asspull on PRISM I think we're all learning to take its "scoops" with a large grain of salt. The XKeyscore claims are now falling apart, just like the PRISM ones did. There's more at Volokh Conspiracy.
GOP governors are not enthusiastic about a government shutdown. The shutdown threat, btw, as well as more general discussion about Obamacare defunding, was a big part of our most recent podcast (iTunes or MP3 link).
In celebration of the selection of the 12th Doctor, Jon Gabriel found some pretty amazing Doctor Who trivia.

On CNN’s “Reliable Sources” on Sunday, the publisher of Talkers magazine and a prominent progressive TV and radio host refuted the idea that Media Matters for America’s campaign against Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity caused Cumulus to consider dropping the two talk stars.
It appears that the libtards are denying that cumulus is bowing to liberal pressure to drop Rush.

1. Obama is campaigning again with lies. He means nothing with this other than mouth-work.
2. If he truly wanted to reduce outsourcing he would cease all the myriads of new regulations and actually start rolling them back. And these are more than just Obamacare which has been the biggest hold up to recover. That and Dodd-Frank, and the EPA.
3. This is more left handed distraction from all the scandal and felonies.

It was already ragestroke time for me when I saw nitwit Ellison's photo on the ONT. The picture of David Frumpy made things worse.
I am thinking what we need right now are two more amendments to the Constitution.
The first would solidify all existing immigration laws, and make it an impeachable (and jail-worthy) offense for any government official to fail to enforce said laws;
The second would severely limit presidential power in the area of executive orders, and remove the president's ability to pass out any foreign aid totaling more than $1 million in goods or money.
I know neither amendment would fly in Congress, but I think there'd be enough public pressure to make states ratify them.

Here's what I see as the fundamental difference in how people are approaching this. One side of the argument reads such pieces and says "hey just because they can do it and can possibly abuse it, doesn't mean they are, I want proof they are." The other side, which is the side I am on, reads such pieces and says "Hey. I've met human beings and if anyone can do it and if anyone can abuse it, they will and I will presume that such abuses occurred until you prove to me they haven't." This is a fundamental divide and explains (some of) the vitriol. Those on side A think those on side B are being paranoid freaks and those on side B think those on side A are being spectacularly naive. Good luck bridging that gap.
I will say that reading the breezy see for example the FBI doesn't just storm in and shoot people wily nily so this is the same thing is rather unconvincing given the litany of various Federal agency raids where either dogicide occurred, someone was shot or, if no one was shot, it was through a miracle. Again, selection bias at work because we don't hear about the properly conducted raids, only the botched ones. That's not even counting the times that armed agents show up for such dangerous events as, say, FDA inspections. Given that history, reading such a reference makes me doubt how seriously the author of the piece takes the concern over if such abuses can occur, then they will occur.
And all that tl;dr comes down to this. This is about trust. I do not trust the various agencies to abide by Constitutional limits voluntarily, I do not trust the oversight committees to do their jobs and I do not trust any information that is being presented by government officials and agencies about what they are or are not doing with domestic data. Which is not to say that I trust Snowden and Greenwald, either. Don't leap to that conclusion. The best point of that article is that we don't know what we're discussing. Given the security issues at play, I don't see how we can which means we're all screaming at each other in the dark.
I don't see why anyone, on any side of the aisle, should simply trust that a government that has the technical capability to do wholesale domestic spying will not do it. Given that, I have no concept of how to balance the absolute need for surveillance with the countervailing absolute need to protect Constitutional limits. I don't know if there's any way that you can without there being seriously negative repercussions.
Thus, I pray for SMOD.

book American Betrayal over at Breitbart.
Read Pt 1 yesterday, with the promise of the next today.
The story, based on intelligence revelations, confirms a lot of long held suspicions about FDR and the Soviet connection.

Congratulations! Now it's time for you to follow the ritual of carrying concealed into a Wal-Mart and having an order of nachos.
I do that every time my CHP is renewed.

Combine those things with a political class that is circling the wagons to protect itself from the now inevtibale economic storm and we arrive at a very dark place where one does not even have to be conspiratorially minded to get the shakes. And yes, the lefties should be seeing this, too--but rascism and abortion! Posted by: Circa

I think Choom Boy is too much of a coward to push the red button, no matter what the provocation might be.
His style is more to send money and military hardware to his fellow Muzzie terrorists, so THEY can push the red button.

I mean, identical carefully worded denials on the part of tech companies couldn't possibly be 'the least untruthful answer', could it?
Regarding Prism and the other stuff, people should remember that closing your eyes doesn't make the other person go away.

There is little point in ruminating about it, its all in the "Wilderness of Mirrors". We've taken a major perception hit that will take decades, if ever, to recover from.

Although these cases rarely involve national security issues, documents reviewed by Reuters show that law enforcement agents have been directed to conceal how such investigations truly begin - not only from defense lawyers but also sometimes from prosecutors and judges. ---- http://news.yahoo.com/exclusive-u

XKeystroke is not effective. The news scoops from the Guardian are not actually scoops, everyone new about this stuff.
The greatest amount of "Chatter" even more than preceded 09/2011-as collected by the NSA- failed to predict attacks on the Embassies.
Why is the Governement hunting Snowden? What Scecrets has Snowden released to enemies?
Why does the Government spend so much money to collect and store my metadata? They could stop metadata collection, and reduce my taxes by 10%
