Happy Tuesday.

State Department orders non-emergency personnel out of Yemen, cautions Americans to leave the country immediately. The UK is also evacuating their embassy.

Abortion advocate Wendy Davis doesn't have any idea what happened in Kermit Gosnell's clinic of horrors. And I'm sure she thinks she's well-informed.

The MLB's latest PED thing is a thing, I guess.

More to the story from the foreign press.

Newell, 59, had recently been removed from his property at 293 Flight Road, after township officials condemned it for code violations, police said.

So an irate citizen was pissed at the Town Council big government who essentially condemned his property for "code violations".  Note that they say the car he came in had TX license plates.  But the lesson here is, not all big government occurs in Washington and some people are borderline psychotic and will not take shit lying down.  I'm sorry for the people killed but being in big government does have certain occupational hazards.

So in the end this will start the gun control fires burning again because the Obamanite shithead has already said he and Hairy the Pederast would push it again.

But the program has gained dubious notoriety, in part because of people like Warren Parker, a suburban Kansas City contractor whose firm, Silver Star Construction, received roughly $5 million in contracts through the program.

"Mr. Parker had a tremendously heroic resume,” says Mark Flatten, an investigative reporter for the Examiner. "Three Silver Stars, three Purple Hearts, Bronze stars. He even kept a diary of sniper kills that he purportedly got in Vietnam. Turns out that it was all a fraud," Flatten says.

"Why are the Chinese buying up land in Detroit?"

The Chinese have always taken the long-term view.  When something is cheap, buy it.

How often do you have an opportunity to buy a major city for pennies on the dollar?  The only thing you need to do to have prices skyrocket is to price the existing residents out of the market and move them out.

93 I know there has been quite a bit of reporting (not by the MFM, of course) about fraud in the minority contracting biz. Lots of figureheads getting nice paychecks for loaning their skin credentials to an enterprise.

Bullshit, it is. And abused like all milkable gubmint programs.

My secondary thought is about requiring firms to hold positions open for Nat'l Guard/Reserves people deployed for more than one year. Having been a manager at one time, it's tough enough balancing current needs and employment figures without trying to 'hold' a spot indefinitely.

This probably goes against Horde wisdom here. So be it. I don't have any problem with 'next available spot'; shit, they were probably good employees before deploying so this is really a no brainer anyhow. Also, they do get the GI Bill so they can re-educate themselves if times have moved on.

I just think it is another piece of feel good legislation that doesn't take certain realities into account. Politicos are especially good at making rules that they don't have to deal with themselves. See ObamaCare and insider trading for details.

(Both industries had been targeted by the government for increased hiring of minorities.)

Leaving class one day, I heard her talking to a friend.  Friend asked her if she understood what was going on in the class.

""Yeah,  but it's just so damn honky."

So,  she went on with her major in urban studies,  and is probably now working for the feds in HUD.  Or else collected welfare for many years.

Every man, woman and child was to be armed with everything from guns to sharpened sticks. The Japs were ready to commit national suicide. Some argued that we should have just blockaded the island but that would have amounted to the same result. So by my reckoning, killing 150,000 people instantly was the most humane thing to do.

Speaking of something else to do, since my computer has died and I'm typing this from an iPhone munchkin keyboard, my lengthy rants will be on hiatus for a while.

I think you're right there.  I've read that the use of the bomb actually gave Hirohito leverage to surrender beyond merely "saving face".  In his radio address to the Japanese people after the second atomic bombing and Truman's "Rain of Ruin" speech Hirohito states that he could no longer continue to lead the Japanese in a war against a people who would use "so cowardly a weapon".  The author (whose name escapes me at the moment) makes the case that from the Japanese standpoint they could allow themselves to stop fighting after the nuclear attacks because they had successfully forced the Americans to dishonor themselves.

They would have fought to the last otherwise.

Because the little township I lived in when I lived in NEPA had a massive on-going fight about moving from septic to sewer. This was the white trash farming/meth making part right next to the nice part of the area. So you had the people who had lived there forever getting into fights with the grandkids who inherited the 100+ acre farm and wanted to subdivide and sell. Let's just say those fights were rather heated. A friend of mine kept running for a spot on the local board on a pro-sewer platform. I kept asking him why he wanted to get shot. I wasn't kidding.

200 Apparently WH officials leaked the source of the big AQ attack to the press, and even requested that this detail be included in the NYT story, because nothing says "We're serious about stopping terrorism, you guys!" than disclosing - thus burning - your source of intel:

"The closure of nearly two dozen U.S. embassies over the weekend came after the U.S. government intercepted communications between Ayman al Zawahiri, the leader of al Qaeda, and Nasir al Wuhayshi, the leader of the terror groupÂ’s most dangerous affiliate, al Qaeda in the Arabian."

201 If the bombs weren't dropped, there are two other possible consequences. (1) Stalin would "lend a hand" in the invasion and then there would be a East and West Tokyo and plenty of Japanese dead in Siberia and starving Japanese on Honshu. or the alternative, (2) the US would be weakened substantially if it went it "alone" (with Britain/Canada/Aussie/NZ). Which would then give Stalin the upper hand to take all of the continent of Europe.

205 The fact that Davis appeared, by invitation, at the National Press Club's party in her honor, far outweighs whatever she said, whether on the podium, or in a hallway taking questions from a Weekly Standard reporter. It was all about face time, and she has the face. Think Sandra Fluke. Photogenic enough for prime time, that is what counts in our cable news era. Get them in front of the camera enough and after enough appearances, whatever got said is forgotten, and only the images remain. Images sell. Soon you are being called a rock star, even if your utterances are worthless. It is all about your attitude, your progressive politics, your ability to project the messaging just by being there. Notice how the press treats Davis, Fluke, HRC, shit, even Pelosi. The photos are all flattering, and the reporting drips with adulation. Contrast it to any reporting done on women pols from the right.

"I don't know what happened in the Gosnell case. But I do know that it happened in an ambulatory surgical center. And in Texas changing our clinics to that standard obviously isn't going to make a difference. The state of the law obviously has to assure that doctors are providing safe procedures for women and that proper oversight by the health and human services department is being given. It sounds as though there was a huge gap in that oversight, and no one can defend that. But that's not the landscape of what's happening in Texas."

Shorter Wendy Davis: Killing babies is OK provided it's done in an ambulatory surgical center with proper oversight. Because safe procedures for women, not babies you guys.

218 161. Yesterday's military operations are nothing new. The headline is propaganda to encourage Americans to embrace the NSA and CIA. "Instead of delegating power to a would-be president-for-life, we delegate it to a bureaucracy-without-death." -- Kevin D. Williamson, NRO, Aug. 5 '13 The Republic of Yemen was featured as a proud "Arab Spring" sproing not so long ago, 2011. The Romans called the fertile Yemen "Arabia Felix" as opposed to Arabia Deserta (deserted). It's one of the oldest centers of civilization in Western Asia, making that in the world, comprised of many tribes. Following conversion to Islam in the 8th Century, Yemenites were influential in conquering the entire Arabian Peninsula to Islam. Currently, the various tribes belong to various Muslim sects, which are at odds with each other, compounded by the negative experience of having been under the heel of the British Empire following the fall of the Ottoman Empire concluding WWI. /Btw, notice how "Middle East" is revised in media now as the "Near East" so close.../ In 2008, an opposition rally in Sana'a demanding electoral reform was met with police gunfire. In January 2009, the Saudi and Yemeni al-Qaeda branches merged. The Yemeni army launched a fresh offensive against the Shia insurgents in 2009, assisted by Saudi forces. Given it's strategical location and easy to propagandize al-Qaeda identity, Yemen is a favorite target of US military and drone bombers which are known for killing civilians if not terrorists. On orders from US President Barack Obama, US warplanes fired cruise missiles at what officials in Washington claimed were Al Qaeda training camps in the provinces of SanaÂ’a and Abyan on 17 December 2009. Instead of hitting Al-Qaeda operatives, it hit a village killing 55 civilians. Officials in Yemen said that the attacks claimed the lives of more than 60 civilians, 28 of them children. Another airstrike was carried out on 24 December.

222 The controversy re: last night's ONT illustrates a growing problem online in general and certainly on this blog's commenting section.

I have been reading and commenting here long enough to notice the change. Witty commentary has always been part of what was fun about Ace's space. Some commenters achieved legendary status thru their rants/comments, like Wicked Pinto or Spurwing Plover. If you recognize those handles, you know what I'm talking about. But they all had something worthwhile to say, in most cases. They weren't just sucking up bandwidth with banal drivel.

But in the last few years there is a new type of commenter here. The best way I can describe them would be digital maturbators. People who think toilet/sexual humor passes for original thought. People that have gone to great pains to create fantasy identities and narratives that they feel compelled to express in the comment section, as though this space were their personal online sandbox. I know they all think they are exceedingly clever and interesting. But many times, they are not.

Ace is a talented writer and he has been noticed by the blogosphere. He is often quoted and linked, but I suspect that other writers on the web do so while at the same time cringing just a little bit, knowing they are referring their readers to a site where they may experience a comment section that is part original thought, part kindergarten foodfight, and part open sewer.

[CR/LF or NOT, that is the question]

Comments on the internet : National Review online has become infested with trolls, and because of an over abundance of 'fairness' and 'tolerance for a diversity of opinion' some topics over there aren't worth the time it takes to scan or load the comments.  Local news sites are nothing more than 'hate goldstein' spewing.

Conservatives are not going to be persuaded, liberals are truly fanatics, and those who are not conservative or liberal proudly don't know or care to know.

So we distract ourselves because otherwise we would have to work.

If this wasn't the Obama administration, I'd suspect the whole deal with the embassies and the intercept story was a ruse to prod Zawahiri to make a move and change locations.  If a guy thinks his comms are compromised, he's gonna jump to another prepared location.

We may not know where he is now, but if we somehow divined the location of where he plans to jump to, then you'd do something to provoke that jump.

261 #233 An ambulatory surgery center is a freestanding facility where outpatient surgery or other procedures requiring general anesthesia is performed. A patient is ambulatory in that they can leave the facility to recover at home. They are regulated and inspected with a fairly high degree of rigor. Most abortion clinics are not ASC and in a lot of states not inspected or regulated--leading to situations where standard of care is abysmally bad and often dangerous. Abortion rights people want abortion clinics to be unfettered because the act of abortion is the key agenda item. They do not care if it is safe, clean, or even performed by a doctor. What they want is diametrically opposed to women's health and well being. They see it as acceptable losses. In their rabid insistence on unrestricted "abortion clinics", they render them into an exact equivalence to back alley quacks with dirty coat hangers.

Having snubbed The Republic of China (1912–1949), we neither did ourselves nor the Chinese people any favor. Meh. Crap said on the internet can easily get miscontrued as nastier than intended, partly because no one knows much about the person the at the other end or the tone in which it was written, even if /sarc or other tags are appended.

In fact part of the reason people tend towards gathering on particular sites versus others is because of that dynamic. People just get you, most of the time, on one site or another.

Yes, commentary here used to be different and often better. One could argue when the change occurred but arguing for a return towards that won't accomplish anything. Its either Do or Don't Do. Be an example yourself, because I sure won't.

Anyway, I call "the town" and tell them I'm moving out and to shut off the water & electric and send a bill. Of course, being a town, it just isn't as simple as calling the utility and telling them you no longer need the service, and good day sir. I'm told oh, you need to come down and fill out the paperwork to get shut off. My answer - no, thats not going to happen. Their answer - well it must happen. My answer back, tell you what, when you don't get paid on the bill thats due, go on down there and shut it off.

I know I can get pretty discouraged by some of the comments I read here and feel the need to walk away for a while. There was some real rasiss shit said during the Zimmerman trial, and I personally thought less of some of the horde that I previously had respect for.

Quite a few comments made during, and immediately after the GZ trial were indeed cringe-worthy. It's not just Blacks that are singled out for comments that do more than brush up against the line of racism. The comment last night about lettuce picking wetbacks was, even if meant as a tongue in cheek 'joke', well over the top. American Indians are also frequently singled out.

Heck, I'm guilty of it too...referring to islamist terrorists, and their supporters as muzzies. I should do better.

307 Ace has made mistakes before with his friendly fire toward commenters. Is dagny ever coming back? She quoted a racist comment from a libtard's twitter page, to point out the sheer idiocy of the libtard in question. Ace got careless and didn't bother to dig into what dagny had posted and just flamed her out of the blog. He was wrong in this case. I don't think he ever apologized for that.

308 They were asked to knock off the type of nasty, misogynistic comments that the Left specializes in and got all pissy. Posted by: Empire of Jeff at August 06, 2013 09:21 AM (ycd2x) Except Jake and Tobacco never made any such comments.

309 294 Meh. Crap said on the internet can easily get miscontrued as nastier than intended, partly because no one knows much about the person the at the other end or the tone in which it was written, even if /sarc or other tags are appended. @308 Yeah, that and sometimes I think ace worries about what potential advertisers might thing of the comments. You do know ace tries to pay the bills with thing, while we only play here. Sometimes he acts like he owns it too. What a dick.

310 @EC, That's what made them look extra-stupid with a side of dipshit sauce. "They" referred to the general request Ace made of everyone. For some reason, Jake decided to argue that those comments had some type of value and Ace was dumb for not recognizing their worth. Totally unnecessary and futile argument on Jake and TR's side.

311 "Except Jake and Tobacco never made any such comments." But wasn't Jake one of them that kept beating the horse and coming back at Ace with justifications? When a simple walking away would've end d the whole thing? Agree with the man or not, don't fucking argue with him in his house.

I think he took ace's anger at certain commenters the wrong way and thought it was directed toward him.

Posted by: Empire of Jeff at August 06, 2013 09:32 AM (ycd2x) I hate when these things happen. Lots of cross-fire and collateral damage in the end.

I'm really tired of the collateral damage.

Normally, when you evacuate and close your embassies, you're about to declare war against someone.

Do ya think that WWIII would be a sufficient distraction from this administration's scandals? Obama might believe that, and if he does...
