David Brooks on Ted Cruz:

“What’s going on in the House, and a bit in the Senate, too, is what you might call the rise of Ted Cruz-ism,” Brooks said. “And Ted Cruz, the senator from Canada through Texas, is basically not a legislator in the normal sense, doesn’t have an idea that he’s going to Congress to create coalitions, make alliances, and he is going to pass a lot of legislation. He’s going in more as a media-protest person. And a lot of the House Republicans are in the same mode. They’re not normal members of Congress. They’re not legislators. They want to stop things. And so they’re just being — they just want to obstruct.”

My response:

MOAR TED CRUZ!!!

Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, September 16, 2013.  OK, something for you MA Morons.  On this day in 1630 the Massachusetts village of Shawmut changed its name to Boston.  Two days later they elected a Kennedy for their first Mayor.

5 The State Department review of the Benghazi terror attack let senior officials off the hook for the policy decisions that led to sub-standard security at the U.S. compound in eastern Libya, according to a draft House committee report obtained by Fox News.

No shit, did you expect any different.  And by Senior officials I am sure that did not include Hillary who is anointed as the next candidate to run against what ever "electable moderate" the Republican bosses come up with next time with their shitty primary rules and order.

7 AZ school pulls a PC book titled "Dreaming in Cuba" after a parent complains about her son having to read sexually graphic material from the book aloud in class.   And I truly love this little bit of irony by the author of the book:

"Many works, not just mine, are misinterpreted or misguidedly banned because of the limitations and short-sightedness of a few," said Garica, who added she would be willing to visit Sierra Vista, which is about 70 miles southeast of Tucson, and answer questions.

School systems have no problem, and jump all over themselves, to remove anything remotely smelling of religion at the request of a single rabid atheist. And sometimes it doesn't even take that.  But woe to anyone who takes offense at this kind of crap or stuff like children putting condoms on cucumbers.

8 I simply cannot believe this shit.  And the hospital is defending it!

A Los Angeles woman is suing an area hospital after one of its surgeons affixed a fake mustache to her upper lip and fake tears and then photographed her – all while she was still under anesthesia.

This is bizarre behavior by doctors and not only should they be sued, but they should have their licenses pulled.

12 So David Brooks is all butthurt at how these upstart Republicans are making him LOOK BAD?

Good on them then. As Brooks is a pampered over thinking well creased pant leg twit.

Oh and NYT? You're not fooling anybody by calling him "conservative".

You know he's not, HE knows he's not and most importantly the rest of the WORLD knows he's not a conservative.

Unless your style book states that conservatives are wish washy rinos with 5 o'clock shadow at 1pm, glasses and a puss mouth who adores EVERYTHING liberals do and HATES anything liberals hate.

Then you may be accurate.

But I don't think so.

23 Everyone forgets that although of course, fraud benefits those who don't qualify for a program, it also occurs and benefits those COMPANIES who are implement or are involved in the programs as vendors.

Don't just get mad at those who falsely acquire the phones, get mad at the companies who have created packages that qualify for the government benefit for profiting from the program and who have little incentive to police those who are users.

That goes for all the grocery stores, corner shops and 7-11's and stores that are similar.

Vent some of your anger and upset at them. They profit from sales and for processing those benefits.

60 The problem with today's legislators is that they think that they are bricklayers. Not to disparage bricvklayers - they are paid to lay bricks. Legislators, on the other hand, are paid to decide whether or not the bricks should be laid, where they should be laid and how they should be laid. A legislator should never be judged on the quantity of bills passed but strictly on the quality.

Roger Aisles has lost it. Giving Shep Smith his how studio and making him second to Bill O in salary shows what a fool heÂ’s become. IÂ’m sure you read it. Every time I look at that list I find another republican that is not influential. Boehner doesnÂ’t belong on the list at all. The only influence he has is on swatting down conservatives in the House & removing them from committees that theyÂ’re on just because they wonÂ’t follow the establishment that Boehner wants.

65 What we need now is to return the real power to the States and get the feds back to what is listed in the Constitution and ONLY what is in the Constitution.

That would mean total elimination of about 4/5 of the federal agencies and ALL their associated regulations (and SWAT teams).

Morning, all.  Only time for a quick story today, since I have an early meeting:

In his book, Confessions of a Cineplex Heckler, the writer Joe Queenan went out one day as a representative of the “Joe Pesci Indemnification Society,” catching people who’d come out of a showing of Pesci’s latest cinematic stinker and offering them a refund of their ticket price.

It so happened that, one Thanksgiving, Dorothy Lamour and her husband, back east to visit the family, went to dinner at the Belvedere Hotel.  While they were there, a young sailor came over to the table.  “Miss Lamour,” he began, “I saw your last four pictures and they were terrible.  I want my dollar and sixty cents back.”

Too astonished to reply, Lamour reached into her purse and pulled out two dollars.  But as the sailor pocketed the money, she suddenly regained her poise.  “Excuse me,” she said before the man could leave, “IÂ’d like my forty cents change, please.”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

89 http://tinyurl.com/qbb6kb3 From the WSJ, Healthcare law faces more skepticism. Anyone who voted for the POS law should be replaced with a representative that represents the people, not the lobbyists. I know I have to, as employer rep, distribute to all employees, notice of healthcare exchanges by October 1. Romneycare made me at least two more days of work each year. Medicare D made another half day of work for me. I wonder how much work Obamacare is going to make for me. I used to say nothing good happens when a republican works with Teddy Kennedy, Romney and Ted K and the former MA Speaker of the House, who is now in jail worked on Romneycare. Romney should have let the MA house and senate pass it without his signature. If he didnÂ’t sign it, he might have gotten those people that stayed home last year to go out & vote for him. Now I say no good comes from anyone, dem of republican working with McCain and Graham. The two are media whores, to borrow a phrase from Mark Levin.

92 alex tea..

I believe a few days ago , CatoInstitute' had said Cruz could be President

That single-parent requirement has been amended several times, but under the law in effect between 1952 and 1986 — Cruz was born in 1970 — someone must have a citizen parent who resided in the United States for at least 10 years, including five after the age of 14, in order to be considered a natural-born citizen. CruzÂ’s mother, Eleanor Darragh, was born in Delaware, lived most of her life in the United States, and gave birth to little Rafael Edward Cruz in her 30s. Q.E.D.

So why all the brouhaha about where Obama was born, given that thereÂ’s no dispute that his mother, Ann Dunham, was a citizen? Because his mother was 18 when she gave birth to the future president in 1961 and so couldnÂ’t have met the 5-year-post-age-14 residency requirement. Had Obama been born a year later, it wouldnÂ’t have mattered whether that birth took place in Hawaii, Kenya, Indonesia, or anywhere else. (For those born since 1986, by the way, the single citizen parent must have only resided here for five years, at least two of which must be after the age of 14.)

Echoing again what others said about Cruz.  The primary point of Congress is not to pass laws.  It is to pass good laws and to get rid of bad ones.  I am uncertain as to if we have enough of the former, but we suffer from an overabundance of the latter.  I would be fine with making new laws a back-burner issue until we clear out the overabundance of sh*tty ones.

105 We have a battery operated chainsaw. Cheap enough I thought worth the experiment. Figured, as backups when I didn't want to fiddle with gascans, etc. It was everything you'd expect. They did the job... until they didn't. On both, you know that thing about delivering steady power? No. When the batteries are fully charged, okay, but power soon drops off, so you're re-charging a not-drained battery and the life gets shorter... Charger did not drain before recharging. (I think I have all that right.) So, battery-powered yard tools? No. But mainly, little vital cheap plastic parts broke. All in all, they were barely better than anticipated, when they worked, but, yeah, crap. Anybody need a bunch of proprietary rechargable batteries? Charger included. I'll throw in a couple proprietary spools of weed eater line... PS The Old Reliable corded hedge trimmer must be in its fifth decade. Like the Montgomery Ward waffle iron the Mrs & I bought when we first got together, it just keeps on working.

The State trooper started reading the Texas firearms law and then went silent when he got to the part about pre-1899 black powder pistols being exempts from the law. Instead of admitting the mistake, they go ahead and charge the man with disorderly conduct/causing alarm with a gun. I completely support law enforcement and the Texas DPS Officers are a good group, but they are not perfect and this was wrong.

I'm back.  In other MA new, Marsha Marsha Coakley has thrown her pantsuit in the ring for the governorship.  Her GOP opponent will be Charlie Baker, who was lambasted by the fuckers at the Globe as being too "mean" and "angry" the last time he ran.  Considering the lousy shape this shithole state is in, Baker ought to be angry.  And he really ought to slice a fucking hammer on Coakley for what she did to Gerald Amirault; if there were any justice, the bitch would be looking at lifetime PMITA prison for the way she railroaded the poor guy.

But Baker's an establishment RINO.  Which means he'll play nice and lose.

The GOP needs to die.

As does Massachusetts.

And I'm out of Wheat Monkey.

157 Bravo David Brooks. In one simple paragraph, you managed to distill the reason why our country is in the shape it is. You have laid out the establishment mindset and showed how 'conservatives' like yourself and so many in leadership positions in the GOP view the role of government. Thanks for letting us know that the goal of the Founders was to create a government with the purpose of creating more and more legislation.

159 The Federal Reserve's first mission under my guidance will be to ensure no employee holds a disproving opinion of gays and gay marriage. Every employee will be paired to participate in simulated gay wedding , complete with honeymoon, to prove their loyalty. Refusal will be grounds for termination and jail time for hate crimes. Execution will not be off the table. #2 on the agenda will be Muslim outreach. We will coordinate with NASA, of course.

...and I thought of all this during one morning's mayonnaise colonic. Just think of the things we can accomplish given time, comrades!

167 What a mess the Miss America Pageant has become.  The girl who won was heard calling the current Miss America fat.  Has Miss America ever been model skinny?  Last year's Miss America was an Alabama import who seemed to come here to compete in pageants.  At least this year's Miss America was born in New York.  "Beauty queen: Miss America ‘fat as [bleep]‘"
http://tinyurl.com/kl3g4uq

Of course buzzfeed jumped right on the bandwagon:  "
A Lot Of People Are Very Upset That An Indian-American Woman Won The Miss America Pageant"  http://tinyurl.com/kna6hsg

Is anything without drama and controversy anymore?  They all watched mean girls over and over as kids guess they used it as a primer.

168 157. Gov. Perry chooses convenient "silence" in support of TX gun law. Rick did not play the "Present" card, no phone call made on behalf of those law abiding Texans arrested on trumped up charges. Not even leading from behind, no follow-up photo-op beer summit arranged between those involved where a public apology is due. For that matter, no resident in the Texas Governor's House, either.

170 Yes, I posted a link to that either Sat or Sun. Posted by: Vic at September 16, 2013 08:03 AM (zZbNF) Sorry, Vic, but I wasÂ’t here at all yesterday. I was on the ONT for a bit but I didnÂ’t care for some of the postings on religion on Saturday. I donÂ’t remember if I was here Saturday during day. I canÂ’t remember. I have had a lot on my mind for past 5 1/2 months. My brother was very sick and admitted to hospital in ME with infection. It was strep infection on March 30 and it was in his blood, urinary tract and pneumonia. They kept him on ventilator for 12 days and when they woke him up he couldnÂ’t move. it took at least 8 days of him being unable to move any part of his body before they did a full body MRI and found infection was also in his cervical spine. He had to have discs in neck removed to get it out. Now heÂ’s paralyzed. It makes me sick to think that heÂ’s going to spend rest of life in nursing home or skilled nursing facility. He canÂ’t even manage to get himself out of bed and into the wheelchair but they stopped PT in late August because heÂ’s reached a plateau! He was sick all last weekend. They just give him Tylenol when he has fever instead of trying to find source of fever. They woke up Wednesday after 4 am to tell me they were sending him to ER. They admitted him and he has UTI and pneumonia. Some genius decided to see if it is the same strep infection that he started off with. They are not very thorough there, they assume heÂ’s been paralyzed for ages. no one bothered to look at medical records!

177 168. Boo-hoo. Someone said someone else said someone looked fat. At a pageant! And the winner was reported to have been Bulimic.* An American woman won the Miss America Title 2013. The young lady was born in NY, grew up in OK and returned to NY, and is pursuing her medical degree. Hating Americans whose parents legally emigrated [from India] for being something they are not [Arab or Muslim] certainly reflects the ignorance of pageant fans, not to mention racism. About the only thing Nina Davuluri's term as Miss America will impact in America is how the term "Indian" in usage might change in application. Her parents emigrated legally into the USA from a region of India that developed anciently via a strong Buddhist civilization from the Hindi origin. Today populated by 88.88% Hindi, Vijayawada is also a highly literate region hosting a multitude of universities and trade schools, with a thriving manufacturing economy. This year's national winner was not the token Indian-American contestant, as she was competing against Georgetown Law student Bindhu Pamarthi, Miss District of Columbia 2013 whose animal rights' pageant platform is ”Tolerance Upside-down: Intolerance for Blind Consumerism.” *Not Islamic.
