Happy Tuesday.

ICYMI, Joan Walsh had a LOL-worthy series of tweets yesterday.

Hey, you want to go to war against GOP members for something? Go to war over this. They are wrong as a matter of policy and wrong as a matter of politics.

By the way, if I haven't mentioned how awesome Cuffy Miegs (sometime openblogger) is on Twitter before, well . . . you should just take a peek. Yeah. Follow dat.

WaPo's Nakamura sorta excuses Obama for his second term thus far -- "events overtook him" -- but it's such a half-hearted defense, the whole thing comes off as a mere litany of Obama's failed leadership. While there have been "unpredictable calamities," the decision to seize them to try and score political points off Republicans has been Obama's own folly, and there's nothing unpredictable about that.

There are 5 legislative days to avert a government shutdown. Thus far neither Cantor's nor Lee-Cruz's plan has been voted on. There's a question: who gets blamed for a shutdown if the GOP doesn't actually vote on a CR at all?

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, September 17, 2013.  Today is Constitution Day. On this day in 1787 the Constitution was completed and signed by the majority of the delegates to the convention in Philadelphia. This holiday has been around unofficially for a long time but was not made an official federal holiday until 2004 when it was inserted into a budget bill by Senate Robert Byrd. It is important that we recognize this day because the forces of big government began undermining the Constitution almost from the onset.  It is all but gone now.  Despite the fact that federal law now requires congress to cite its Constitutional authority for each new law passed it is totally ignored.  And Obama not only ignores it, he has openly distained it in public comment.

2 Vet in Navy Yard shooting had troubled past

Yes he had a "troubled past" which was largely anger issues which they blame on PTSD, except I would be willing to bet that he had anger issues before he ever went into the Navy.  On top of that his rating in the Navy was not involved in actual combat.  They are blaming the PTSD on minor rescue efforts in NYC during 9-11.  The Gun Grabbers will get a new lease on life despite the fact there are already laws in place that prohibit him from having any guns.  In fact, he is, or was, a walking testament to why gun laws do not work.  He had been previously involved in two other shooting incidents, which should have been felonies.

3 We know what happened in these shooting cases:

The local district attorney subsequently declined to file charges against Alexis.

He shoots a hole into his neighbor's apartment on purpose and they decline to press charges?????  It also begs the question, what kind of security screening are they doing for people to get ID cards for base access now?

The tire shooting incident was resolved like this:

Seattle police said Monday the case was referred to Seattle Municipal Court for charges of property damage and discharge of a firearm.

There's no record that he was ever prosecuted, and a spokeswoman for the Seattle City Attorney's Office, Kimberly Mills, said Monday that her office never received the report from police so did not review it for possible charges.

Discharge of a firearm in this event rises to a felony so what happened to the charges?

4 What is even more revealing on the incompetence of the "vetting for security clearance" was the fact that the Navy knew of his instability in the firearm events and was a major reason for discharging him from the Navy.

One Navy official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Alexis was discharged in January 2011 for “a pattern of misconduct” and that the 2010 gun incident in Texas played a role in his departure.

But hey, it was the evil gun that caused all of this.

5 And yes the cockroaches are out.  Dianne "Give Me Respect" Fienscrunt is calling for a new wave of gun control.  She doesn't have to worry about a CO style recall.  She is protected on two fronts. There is no federal recall for lawmakers, although there should be, and she is from nuts and fruits land in CA.  We would be better off if the rest of the country took a vote and expelled the entire West Coast.   Not only would that eliminate this kind of idiocy, but it would also kill the permanent Democrat election majorities.

7 Anti-fracking anarchists in PA use the endangered species list to attempt to block fracking and run up the cost of doing business through law-fare.   That is what the stupid law was written for to begin with.  We need one of two things on that law, either narrow the list down to those things for which it was originally intended, or repeal it totally.  On the law-fare end the law needs to be changed to looser pays all legal costs.

12 Brit Hume says Obama wants a gov shutdown he can blame on Republicans. I say there are far too many people who bought into the whole "blame Republicans" message in the 80s.  The public was not all that upset about the last "non-shutdown" despite everything the liars in the MFM said.  The Republicans actually picked up seats in the next election.  What really made it look like they were upset was one wing of the stupid Party saying they were upset as a reason for ousting Newt Gingrich and bringing back the "moderates" to power so they could make more "deals".

There are 5 legislative days to avert a government shutdown.

I already made my position clear yesterday.  Shut.  The.  Fucker.  Down.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  HereÂ’s a story about Errol Flynn and the director John Huston:

At a party once, for some reason, the quick-tempered Huston took offense to something Flynn said and took a swing at the swashbuckling idol.  It only took Flynn two punches to knock Huston flat, after which he helped him up, splashed a little cold water on his face and gave him a shot of bourbon – strictly for medicinal purposes, of course.

Once revived, Huston started throwing punches at Flynn again, only to be back on the ground moments later.  Once more, Flynn helped him up, Huston took another swing and boom! – there he was, flat on his back again.

This time, Flynn emptied a bucket of water over Huston.  When the director came to, Flynn knelt down and whispered, “John, you have no chance.  I was a professional fighter.  Please donÂ’t be a fool.”

“When Errol said that to me,” Huston later gloated, “I knew I had him!”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

PTSD is to 21st century Veterans what ADHD was to late 20th century children:  a catchall diagnosis  that is very very real for some people, but is being used as a way to characterize some people who are just wrong.

You are right, they were wrong before they ever got to the military.  This is known, it has always been known, and it's no different from what the military has always had.  People who have no business being recruited, get recruited, but in the past these are the people who get bad conduct discharges.

Now they get labeled with PTSD, and they get a government check for life.

So, should we just wait until there's a more friendly MFM?  Because, frankly, I'm sick of that damned beaten-wife argument.  I will admit, that with our current crop of spineless assholes, we're fighting with both hands tied behind our backs, but it would also be the time to see if people like Paul and Cruz will stand up to the biased fucks.  Because if they don't have the stomach to fight back against the MFM, I'd rather know it now and keep my money to myself rather than waste it on another Vichy collaborator.

You know, this encapsulates the screaming divide on this topic.   After all, my perspective is that I am not at war against the GOP, the GOP declared war against me and all that I hold dear.   I was raised that you don't start a fight but should you find yourself in one, you do whatever is necessary to win it.  The GOP wants to war against its base and those formerly in its base?   Game on.

When Tony Curtis - nee Bernie Schwartz - was hitting his stride in the late 50's, he took his father, a German Jewish refugee, to a Hollywood party and introduced him to John Huston. Curtis' father put his hand out, and strongly introduced himself to the director. "Schwartz," he said. Huston took his hand and said, "Mr. Curtis, why did you change your name? It was so lovely!"

John List (roasting)

An ironic twist on the List case:  ostensibly, the reason he killed his family was because he had lost his job and couldn't afford the mortgage on his house.  What he didn't know was that, in their foyer, was an authentic Tiffany stained-glass window which, by itself, would have paid off the mortgage with money left over.  As it happens, nobody figured that out until the house was torn down and the window shattered.

Good news, every Juan!:

Although federal law prohibits employers from hiring someone residing in the country illegally, there is no law prohibiting such a person from starting a business or becoming an independent contractor.

Ever since 1986, when employer sanctions took effect as part of the immigration overhaul signed by President Reagan, creating a company or becoming an independent contractor has been a way for people who are in the country illegally to work on a contract basis and get around immigration enforcement.

I can't, simply because I don't understand the social-engineering side of liberalism or conservatism, and have no time for people who are always on about adding or repealing laws based on matters that should have no place in government.

If you wish to advocate for or vehemently oppose one of the hot-button Vital Social Issues, more power to you. I'm gonna tune you out.

My take, which a lot of people here are sure to find attack-worthy, is this: there are basic purposes and basic (common-sense-based) laws which are not being obeyed by the current government and its elected and appointed members from both political parties. As long as the lawbreakers are sucking at the public teat, and are actually in charge of our destinies, a sane "conversation" about any moral or societal subject -- you know what the "subjects" I'm talking about are -- is impossible.

If you wish to shill for your pet cause, please do. But it is, at the moment, a waste of time. Survival, which is at risk right now, is more important.

Pennsylvania Gov. Corbett said Monday that he would accept federal Medicaid funding to insure hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians as part of a broader overhaul of the health-care safety net.

Corbett, who became the 10th Republican governor to accept Medicaid funding, initially rejected expansion in his February budget address, but later said he was open to the idea if the federal government allowed him the flexibility to design a plan tailored to Pennsylvania's needs.

So looks like the majority, by population, of states with Republican Govs have taken Obama's salt.

The halo...the hand...they're totally painting him as an Eastern Orthodox icon.

********************************************************

It really is disgusting. Although it isn't the first time religious imagery has been used for Obama -- since 2007 there has been a plethora of this sacrilegious imagery. But it makes sense, he is a god to these heathen progs (one Time editor actually flat out said Obama was "like a god.").

*Technically, his hand isn't correct, the thumb should be bent to meet/ the pinky and ring finger and the middle and pointer fingers should be slightly bent at first knuckles -- that is how Christ Pantocrator is depicted in Orthodox icons & how Orthodox priests hold their hands to give the blessing -- the pose represents the letters I (Iota) and C (Sigma) (the first and last letters of the name "Jesus" in Greek); and X (Chi) and C (Sigma) (the first and last letters of title "Christ" in Greek), thereby making the anagram ICXC to stand for "Jesus Christ."

179 Happy Tuesday to you, Gabriel and may you have a blessed day. Thanks for your blogging here. :^) -------------------------------------------------------------- Stories behind great hymns of the faith-"Nearer My God to Thee." The author Sarah Adams who wrote many hymns died in age 43 in Essex, England. It is based on the passge from Genesis 28:12 in which Jacob has a dream about a ladder that reaches to heaven. This is the hymn that the band was supposedly playing and some people singing as the Titanic went down, although that may be apocryphal and they may have been playing "Autumn" instead. Anyway, it's a powerful story and here's a clip from it being played and sung in "A NIght to Remember" which I much preferred to the silly drivel of the most recent Titanic movie (So sue me. :^) http://tinyurl.com/mm78apq There are some stirring words here: "Even though it be a cross that raiseth me. Still my song shall be "Nearer, my God to thee" The cross is not incidental to the Christian life unlike what some prosperity preachers would seem to suggest. There is no resurrection without a cross, and Jesus did not speak of it as some sort of obstacle on the way to material prosperity. The cross is about a suffering God who loves us and wants to save us from ourselves. Can you telll that I'm not on board with "prosperity" preachers/name it and claim it or "Grab it and grab it" theology? ;I love these brothers and sisters in Christ as God gives me strength. I just want to shake them it's such a perversion of the Gospel. Story behind the hymn: http://www.plymouthbrethren.org/article/10199. My computer is having a nervous breakdown and the repair people keep saying they'll come and never show up. I'm sure you've all had this problem "You said you were going to be here by 12:00; IT's not 4:00 and you're still not here?!!." Therefore, I amy not be here much today which will make some people happy. :^) Also, I sometimes do have a life away from this place. :^) Finally, I would ask for prayers for Jerome from PA. He is a fellow ins his 30's who works with the spouse. He had cancer before and it has now recurred and is quite serious. I'm trying to get him on as many prayer lists as possible. I would be so grateful for your prayers for him. God Bless, Fenelon

"Authorities investigating MondayÂ’s D.C. shooting spree believe the gunman brought a shotgun, legally purchased from a suburban Virginia gun shop, to the Navy Yard and acquired additional weapons at the scene, according to three law enforcement officials.

The officials said Aaron Alexis of Fort Worth, Texas, a 34-year-old discharged Navy engineer, entered the building with a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun that heÂ’d purchased last week in Lorton, Va., and was later found with two additional weapons, a Glock handgun and an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle."

189 IDF pulls soldiers out of communities bordering Gaza, Lebanon and Syria By YAAKOV LAPPIN 09/17/2013 11:17 Senior commanders determine enhanced border security measures make soldier presence in communities unnecessary. SOLDIERS FROM the Shahaf Battalion. Photo: Yaakov Lappin The IDF has pulled soldiers out of front line communities near the northern and southern borders, a senior army source said Tuesday, after senior commanders concluded that the arrangement was no longer necessary for security. In the past, the IDF's Southern Command placed soldiers at the entrance to nine towns and villages near the Gaza and Egypt borders, while the Northern Command secured 13 frontier communities in this way. See I think this is wrong. They may be right about better border security making this unnecessary, but I know the people in those towns like and want the Soldiers there.

197 Enabling Empowerment /two deceitful code words/ We have finally found Obama's red line! Now if Syria doesn't comply, US has right to go to UN, where can be blocked by… Putin! A circle!— Garry Kasparov (@Kasparov63) September 14, 2013 And with the UN CW inspectors report being presented tomorrow, this deal preempts it and Obama provides cover for al-Assad. Incredible.— Garry Kasparov (@Kasparov63) September 14, 2013 Kasparov's arguments hold true v. Putin as "an honest position." But when illustrating the local "vacuum" Putin would manipulate, Kasparov fails to address the obvious BIGGER problematic vacuum (Libya and Egypt illustrate) of grossly greater global proportion given the US empowerment of globally organized terrorism, sponsoring the same evil that attacked the USA on 9/11/01. US citizens and taxpayers revolt against our funding, training and alliance with al-Qaeda and The Muslim Brotherhood. THAT is an honest position. Here is another honest position that neither "side" faces. When Assad is deposed, all Syrians will be terrorized by the most barbarous Islamist Wahhabi generated destruction, and there will be no more Syrian Christians "tolerated", nor any other sect of Islam than the terrorists'. Explain how Putin is "worse" than augmented global Islamist terrorism sponsored by the USA. One of the problems for Americans and for our country is that Obama is (still) POTUS, and that he (and each "present" Democrat and Republican elected by Members of Congress to national leadership positions of each party: GOP Boehner/McConnell) is absolutely no match for the job description. Cut our own false leaders at their knees since they disrespect We The People, legislating taxation to enslave us and kill the Middle Class. The only true Statesmen are those who protect the integrity of our Constitutional Republic, our Bill of Rights, and respect the sovereign status of states which include nation states, based on self-evident truths, Inalienable Rights. Whatever propaganda being sold by the military-industrial-government complex is, at best, suspect. Nothing new except how long this cycle repeats. "I Like Ike" GOP Unlike Truman who played into manipulative 'Because I Could' abuses of power, arguably with the best intentions, in contrast, Ike campaigned for POTUS on the platform to get the US out of the UN Korean War. Ike promised N.Korea/China that if they refused a cease fire, he would use WMD to annihilate the enemy, AND bring our troops home. Because Ike had CREDIBILITY, he not only won the US Presidency, but brokered the Korean Cease Fire. During Ike's administration, the world endured global cooling of the USSR Cold War without military entanglements, because Ike was CREDIBLE. And unlike Democrat Party US Presidents and subsequent Republican administrations (including trickle-down Reagan), Ike was the last Republican President who maintained a libertarian-Republican administration. He proved the ever-current relevance of George Washington's admonitions. Ike's administration built the (last) infrastructure of America, our nation's highways. We Americans have our own work cut out for us. Especially regarding politics. We need to clean house, and to elect responsible and accountable leadership. More Cruz and Posse support. At the very least, "Support Your Local Sheriff" (1969). Regarding Syria, where is the "IDEAL" determination? Whatever that is, even after decades of warfare, it will only result from negotiations. And the current US administration is stuck above its pay grade. Obama's Foreign Policy as Derivatives is causing the metaphorical equivalent of economic fraud, TARP et al. bail-outs resulting in the current US Depression, devaluation of the Dollar, and soaring unemployment. Every political "fix" only made matters worse. Until the root is cleansed, all else is corrupt. Assad is not the ONLY abusive root in Syria. The foreign-funded terrorists (Obama/US sponsors) are far worse abusive roots invading Syria. Deposing Assad by inserting worse terrorists would be evil and would blow-back on ourselves. For America to be the vehicle for terrorism to destroy the Syrian peoples' pursuit of happiness would be damning to all decency. Whatever Syrians choose to make of Syria is their own right. But moreover, what Americans choose to make of America is OUR OWN RIGHT. That is American Exceptionalism. Our tax funds are required at home, rebuilding our own infrastructure, rebuilding our own industrial and manufacturing foundation for self sufficiency, building our own pipelines, drilling our Alaskan oil reserves. No nation's JOBS should be limited to training, fabricating and exporting war, or to exporting employment opportunity to "more deserving" people abroad, especially regarding our own American employment opportunities and the industrial base to secure our own independence. 21st Century American Renaissance

200 Neoconservatives would call Eisenhower an isolationist as if to cover their own ugly ass.

201 Take a look at some of the combat shotguns....they are pretty scary looking. >>

A Friend let me shoot his Franchi SPAS-12. Neat gun but overly complex IMO.

202 And....are the historical clues in Orthodox art any different than in Roman Catholic? For instance, a man with a key on his belt is usually St. Peter, etc.

***********************************************

I'm so sorry -- I didn't mean to sound defensive -- it's my posting/writing style. I was trying to apologize because I thought I might have come off as a know-it-all -- which was not my intent. I just happen to be Orthodox and am familiar with the icon the MSM is going for in that Obama picture.

For the most part the historical clues as to various Saints in Orthodox art are the same as in the Roman Catholic -- St. Peter holds a key; St. George is always on a white horse etc. The only difference that I've noticed (I went to Roman Catholic elementary and high schools so am pretty familiar with those images) is that after the split in the church between East and West they started to have some different Saints, but up until the split the Saints and the imagery used to depict them is pretty much the same (although, of course, the Orthodox church doesn't use statutes, only painted icons).

No apologies are necessary. In fact, quite the opposite. Thanks for sharing this information. Especially the painted icon vs. statue. I never realized that, but thinking back on all of the churches and cathedrals I have seen (and exhibits in museums), it's clear to me now!

204 Dancing Queen- I appreciate your comments on the religious imagery of the Orthodox Church. That is very interesting to me. The imagery of Obama divine imagery is appalling as well as being blasphemous. It has sickened me since it began being used when he was running for office. After all the Bible says,"Put not your trust in princes, in mortal men in whom there is no hope." Kyrie, eléison. . Christe, eléison. Kyrie, eléison. God bless you.

205 Castellanos is no fan of Rick Perry.  Back in 2011, he called Perry a "Sarah Palin in a skirt" (huh?) and "Bush-lite".  Back in the day when I watched the Sunday shows, an appearance by Casty resulted in an automatic reach for the clicker.

You're welcome.

God bless you too.

It's nice to be appreciated -- but don't get your hopes up; Orthodoxy is probably the only area where I'll feel "expert" enough to illuminate others on in this forum. :-)

207 If you wish to shill for your pet cause, please do. But it is, at the moment, a waste of time. Survival, which is at risk right now, is more important. Posted by: MrScribbler at September 17, 2013 08:33 AM (kaGpp) ^^^ this x 100 ^^^

208 One of the funniest nights of my life was having dinner with Cuffy and his wife at the home of a fellow blogger.

The tale of the electric trimmer was epic.

'tis the one and only time I laughed so hard I sharted myself twice.
