— Gabriel Malor Humpday!
Ace covered the big news last night -- the House is gonna try a defunding CR, say leadership sources. Two things, though: (1) officially, no member of leadership and no leadership aide will confirm the story -- a leadership spokesman says that the decision on what to do won't come until after a caucus meeting this morning; and (2) "many House insiders" expect that Sens. Cruz and Lee will be unable to push a defunding CR through the Senate and that the House will turn to a "Plan B," which looks a lot like the Cantor plan.
There are officially just four legislative days left on the House calendar, but it's looking very likely that the House will cancel next week's planned recess.
Buzzfeed has 9 potential mass shootings that were averted by armed citizens.
And that's all I've got time for this morning. If you haven't listened to last week's podcast yet, it's a good one:

In March, South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham spearheaded a plan to change firearm background check laws so that those with court-documented mental illness would not be able to purchase guns.
I hope Nancy Boy's Primary opponents let everyone know that he is pushing more useless gun control. There are already laws on the books for this so obviously what they want is to back-door something else in. I'm sure that it will go over very well in SC. For this latest event it would have had ZERO impact for the same reason that the laws the SOB broke had ZERO impact. On two occasions the law allowed him to slide on gun related felonies. IOW, there were ALREADY laws on the books that could have prevented this IF they had been enforced. Of course, he was in one of those MAGIC gun free zones as well.

"We can certainly have Mrs. Clinton back," Issa said of the former Secretary of State. "We want to be respectful of her time, so getting to the facts, including people below her, first is critical."
Why? So she can lie to you again with impunity? No we know it wasn't perjury because you failed to have her testify under oath. But thanks to a change it the law, it doesn't matter because lying to congress carries the same penalty as perjury anyway. But what difference does it make now? Multiple felonies were committed over this mess and nobody has even been charged, much less prosecuted. If this was a Republican administration and the same incompetent shit had happened there would already be people in jail.

So you Morons who may be moving to the South from the North be aware we have a variety of ant that is simply the spawn of the devil and if you have never been exposed to them you may be allergic and not know it. And even if you are not allergic it is still a painful and then itchy bite and they are very aggressive and will chase you down by the thousands. When you get here have someone show you one of their mounds so you can know what to look for and take steps to eradicate them and avoid them. Note in this article they say that there were numerous mounds around the football field that were known and not taken care of. I suspect the lawyers are already up and running there.

What constitutes a "court-documented" mental illness?
I mean, if I go to my doctor and tell him I'm feeling a little blue, one would assume the courts won't have that documented... right???
So how does it get to the courts? Are doctors going to be required to report to the state, anyone who they deem mentally ill? What if my ex decides to talk about that time during the divorce (I'm not divorced, this example is for illustration purposes ONLY) when I went a little loopy? Is that considered "court-documented?
The courts and the state: not a place I want my mental health documented.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Here are a couple of quick (and nice) stories.
First, the great John Barrymore: towards the end of his life, he had his lines written on blackboards and held up just outside of camera range, even though he generally knew his lines already. “The blackboard is to me what a net is to a circus trapeze artist,” he explained. “He can do his quadruple somersaults with confidence, as long as he knows the net is there to catch him just in case.”
Came the time when he was offered Macbeth, one of his favorite Shakespearean roles. But the venue was the Hollywood Bowl, and Barrymore was stumped when it was pointed out to him that there would be no place to hide his blackboards.
Barrymore thought for a moment. Then his face brightened. “I’ll have them use skywriting.”
Now a story about Rock Hudson: known primarily as a light actor, HudsonÂ’s first real dramatic role was in 1954s Magnificent Obsession, where he played the part of a careless playboy turned surgeon in order to restore the sight of a woman he accidentally blinded. Hudson was nervous all through the shoot, not just because of the meat of his part, but also because his co-star, Jane Wyman, had just won an Oscar. He often forgot his lines and sometimes required thirty or forty takes for a scene, but Wyman never complained.
After the picture had wrapped, Hudson sought out Wyman. “Jane,” he said, “you really went out of your way to be nice to me when you didn’t have to. I want you to know that I do know that. I appreciate it and I love you for it.”
“Let me tell you something,” Wyman smiled. “It was handed to me by somebody and I handed it to you. Now it’s your turn to hand it to somebody else.”
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

That s what worries me about new legislation sponsored by Nancy Boy. There is already a law in effect that if someone is declared mentally incompetent by a court that they can not own a gun.
So how was he going to change it to make that better. But as I said, none of that really applies in this case since he was already involved in two felonies involving use of a gun and in both cases they failed to prosecute.

The Sacred Duty to Report the News is equally important; we simply must keep the business of News Reporting out of the hands of the mentally unstable. No sane, reasonable person can deny the obvious.
The Business of Reporting the News is a Sacred Trust that can only be given to those of high moral character who solemnly swear an oath to intelligently pursue the facts, to report those facts, and do so in a timely manner so that the public can see the wisdom of the decisions made on their behalf by their elected representatives.
Therefore, I support the efforts of the Democrat party to license responsible individuals in the field of Journalism. Our great nation will only remain great for only as long as our exceptional citizenry are proper informed, well educated, and well represented in government.
No sane, reasonable, responsible person can deny the obvious.

Supposedly when they leave (or drop out of a campaign) there are only a few things they can do with campaign contributions:
1. Use it for future campaigns (there is a time limit)
2. Give it to another politician(s) for their campaigns
3. Donate it to charity
However, I have NEVER heard of any pol being prosecuted for violating this so that leads me to believe that they are not enforcing it.

6 Vic:
As a Northern Boy (of about 30) I learned about fire ants the hard way -- by sticking my elbow in a mound while checking out how badly our van was stuck.
Do you have "velvet ants" in SC? They're not really ants but wingless wasps. I ran into them in Florida. Apparently people unfamiliar with them and allergic to bee stings die every year from anaphylactic shock because they think they got bitten by an ant when really they were stung by a wasp.
Once you get to southern Virginia and southwards there's plenty of deadly critters most northerners aren't familiar with.

Yes, we have them here. They are all over the South. The local name for them is "cow killer" because they are known for crawling into cow's ears in the pasture and stinging them causing death of the cow (or so the story goes). I have never been stung by one so don't know how bad it hurts. They are fairly easy to avoid and the usually come singleton and not in hoards like fire ants.
Another interesting thing about those things is that they are damn near impossible to kill by stepping on them while they are in the dirt. You can stomp them two inches into the ground and they will crawl right back up.

Got word from someone who should know in the VA GOP that so-called "moderate" factions are sandbagging support for Cuccinelli by, among other things, dragging feet on GOTV infrastructure and trying to suppress key endorsements. This is also impacting down-ticket races like Lt. Governor (where EW Jackson is set to be the tie-breaking vote in the Senate) and Attorney General (where Mark Obenshain will be an even stronger conservative voice than Cuccinelli was).
The whole thing smells like Bill Bolling throwing a temper tantrum because the GOP voters didn't want him to run for Governor so he's going to go passive-aggressive against Cuccinelli. However, since Bolling is a "moderate," don't expect to see Establishment voices complain about Republicans fighting Republicans on this.
Mainly, Establishment cranks would rather have a McAuliffe governor (motto: we'll do for VA what O'Malley has done for MD!) than live with Cuccinelli.

Man the House might actually direct some focus and energy to putting the brakes on something that can kill people health insurance full time jobs or even employment altogether. Didn't they hear that isn't the hill to die on, and the true battle is internet sales tax. That should be their focus. Not some silly little thing that can kill the economy.

Conservatism is a tough sell. One person is promising you free stuff, and the other is promising you hard work. Which one are you going to take?
As well, conservatism offers you freedom. It always amazes me that a people who will, at the slightest provocation, say "mind your business" or "don't be gettin' up in my grill" will happily accept the most intrusive questioning or meddling from the government. What is more appealing than the ability to say, "get out and leave me alone?"

The VA GOP is already navigating the loss of goodwill with the way they handled the last Presidential primary - they didn't allow any candidates other than Romney and Paul on the ballot.
Now there are arguments to support that decision, but the way it was handled (and the proposed then rescinded requirement/suggestion that GOP primary voters take an oath to vote for the nominee winner) just turned a lot of people off.
There's a lot wrong with the VA GOP, and I don't see it getting any better.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- Immigration reform is stalled in Congress but that's not stopping immigrants from contacting lawyers, filling out paperwork and making other preparations in hopes of getting a head start should laws change.
That's got some advocates concerned that immigrants, who have been duped before by unscrupulous attorneys and others, could be snookered again.Lawbreakers getting taken in by crooks. How terrible!

Thanks for the story about Barrymore (I love any actor who appreciates Shakespeare).
You're welcome, FS. Here's another:
Barrymore was a drunk and very often forgot lines, so, as mentioned, he had them written, even for his appearances on radio. One day, he saw a producer looking at the signs. "You think I've lost my memory, don't you?" Barrymore said. "Give me a Shakespeare play and a scene." The producer was too startled to reply, so Barrymore reeled off Hamlet's soliloquy, never missing a word.
"But if you can do that, why the signs?" the producer asked.
"Dear boy," Barrymore replied, waving a hand to the signs, "why should I fill my mind with that garbage only to have to forget it all tomorrow?"

I still don't understand why the GOP doesn't appeal to that. If it was me running that outfit, I'd be sending a message that says, "Why settle for the pittance that Dims want you to have when you could be out there earning far more money? Right now, the only thing standing between you and the life you want is the Dim-controlled government."
It's a variation of the "chicken in every pot" line, but changed to appeal to self-sufficiency, kinda.

Serious You Guys, there are only two reasons I'm not on the dole right now: one is that it really is work gaming the system, and I suspect that as a white, straight male, I'd face some handicaps. The second is that (story of my life) I'm certain as soon as I got on the gravy train, it would derail.

Florida dangerous critters:
Snakes: copperhead, eastern diamondback rattler, coral, cottonmouth / water moccasin, pygmy rattler, eh, think I forgot one. Oh, and now pythons.
Insects: black widow, brown recluse, two or three dangerous caterpillars, fire ants, and some annoying stinging ant which falls on you from overhead foliage.
Alligators, salt water crocs.
Sharks, lots of sharks, esp the bull which can swim up rivers.
The panther (not really dangerous, remaining ones wisely avoid people), and not that impressive bears.
But mainly face-eating humans and superhuman strength druggies.

Due to the wonders of media, the shotgun shooter's ammo count increased from 15 shells last night to 24 this morning. Last night we were trying to make something of the number. Serves us right. Looks like we need another 48 hours.
Also, a new catalogue entry, to go with multi-calibers and things that go up: AM reports are that the 870 was a "synthetic shotgun." That makes it more special.

There's an apocryphal story that Prince Rainier, when wooing Kelly, visited Hollywood to meet some of her friends. Like many people, the Prince loved showbiz gossip, so he asked one actor (reports vary on whom) who gave the best head in Hollywood.
"Easy! Grace -" the actor began, before remembering who he was talking to and finishing with someone else's name.

Smooth bored pump action shotgun. Not much a liberal can latch onto there.

An H&R single shot break action 20g. You can get other barrels for it as well. My current Bambi killer is one of their 357mag barrels bored out to 357max. But the base 20g is simple, safe, cheap and can be honestly used for wide range of tasks.

40, Burt, I was grabbed once by a crazy guy. No harm done but still he had been lunging at every woman listening to an ipod before he grabbed at me, so I filed a police report.
A few days later, I got a phone call asking if I could appear as a witness in court so he could be committed. I did, and I assume he was as he was floridly psychotic, although who knows for how long.
But that is court-documented mental illness.
Problem is, I had to miss a complete day of work because the court kept putting off my hearing and I don't know how many people can do that and not miss a day's pay. When the court is disrespectful of witnesses and victims, it's hard to get people to follow through. As a matter of fact, the first cop seemed annoyed that I wanted to file a report and I always wanted to track him down to tell him I actually followed through.

Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, September 18, 2013. On this day in 1837 Tiffany and Co. (first named Tiffany & Young) was founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and Teddy Young in New York City. The store was called a "stationery and fancy goods emporium". And they are still around and have a collection named Tiffany 1837 to celebrate their founding. But this is not for us Morons.
