Happy Wednesday.

Still going. When I got up a while ago, Sen. Rubio was talking about taxes, regulations, and debt. He's been on since around 6am. Sens. Lee and Cruz split the early morning hours. Cruz's speech will surpass the previous 5th-longest floor speech (counting all the time since he's started, including the time he's yielded to others, which is how they count in the Senate) at 6:55am.

In other news, Mitt Romney will headline a fundraiser for Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli.

A Dallas zoo gorilla will get therapy for his sexist behavior.

A fake Apple ad that says iOS7 will make your iPhone waterproof has tricked several people into destroying their iPhones.

Hillman said he went with rock to win, which is a good strategy since nothing beats rock and was captured by cameras during the game. Well, nothing except the head coach.

I was at Animal Kingdom with my wife and we waved at some gorillas who were near us.  Out of nowhere an employee tells us that is not nice behavior in the gorilla world.

Two problems: 1) Was she really saying a captive gorilla was too stupid to know we are not gorillas?  And, 2) Having lived around humans for  years in a THEME PARK, somehow we were the first people who waved?

FTR, the gorillas could not have given a shit what we did.  They were grooming each other.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Sheesh, give me time to get a cup of tea, willya?  Anyway, here we go. . .

Like Mae WestÂ’s “Come up and see me sometime,” and “Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”* Greta Garbo is often quoted in shorthand – “I want to be alone” and “I tÂ’ank I go home.”  She probably never said the first; as to the second. . .well, there are a couple of stories.

One is that, during the filming of her first American movie, Torrent, in 1926, a scene called for Garbo to dive into a pool of icy water.  Which she did, coming up sputtering and shivering from the cold.  “ThatÂ’s fine,” director Monta Bell called.  “Now letÂ’s do it again.”  Once more, Garbo plunged into the water, coming up blue and shaking.  “ThatÂ’s great,” Bell said.  “Now letÂ’s do it again.”

At that point, the story goes, Garbo walked around the pool of water, staring into the chilly depths.  Then she picked up her cloak from a nearby chair, wrapped it around herself and strolled away, saying “I tÂ’ank I go home.”

The second version has it that in 1927 Garbo went to see MGM boss Louis B. Mayer to ask for more money.  “Why?” the mogul cried.  “HavenÂ’t I done everything to make you happy here?  Think how much better off you are since leaving Berlin.  What kind of money were you making then?  Was it anywhere near the six hundred dollars a week we pay you now?”

“You are paying Jack Gilbert ten thousand a week,” Garbo responded.

“I see what you mean,” said Mayer.  “I agree with you.  IÂ’ll make a new arrangement.  How much will make you happy?”

“Five thousand dollars a week.”

“I’ll give you twenty-five hundred.”

“I t’ank I go home.”

So Mayer caved in, weÂ’re told, and gave Garbo her five thousand a week.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

*Which, like Cary Grant’s “Judy, Judy, Judy,” or Cagney’s “You dirty rat,” are lines she never said.

Thurmond began speaking at 8:54 p.m. on Aug. 28 and continued until 9:12 p.m. the following evening, reciting the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, President George Washington's farewell address and other historical documents along the way.

Thurmond was not the only lawmaker to filibuster on the issue, however. According to Senate records, teams of senators consumed 57 days filibustering between March 26 and June 19, the day the Civil Rights Act of 1957 passed.

IÂ’ve waited patiently since May when I was eligible for an upgrade for the new iPhone to be released. IÂ’m waiting for it to arrive. I have conflicting info from Apple. Shipping confirmation has arrival date of September 26. Apple Store app has arrival date of September 30, which happens to be my birthday. The first thing I did after I woke up was turn on CSPAN2, I believe itÂ’s 2, to see if Ted Cruz was still going. IÂ’m glad heÂ’s still going and making sense. I asked question on ONTI if anyone wanted to stop me from sending email to Mitch McConnell in response to letter I recÂ’d asking for $ to support his reelection. I was going to tell Mitch why he CANNOT count on me for a cent but I suddenly lost all my energy and promptly fell asleep. I like it that McConnell has wasted four (maybe five) letters to me via USPS asking for my support. That spineless, back stabbing man is getting nothing from me. HeÂ’s useless and should be ousted from minority leader as well as being ousted from senate. ItÂ’s time to get rid of the old fools that do nothing to advance conservatives. Mitch thinks heÂ’s an outspoken leader and is number one target of TFG and the media. HeÂ’s delusional if he thinks heÂ’s number one target, heÂ’s number one back stabbing, behind the scene dealmaker with Reid and Biden and throwing United States and our fellow citizens under the bus.

I mean, feel free to not choose Ted Cruz as your number one candidate, but why all the hate over the possibility he might toss his hat in?

Then amendments to insert non-related items into the bill approached by fellow legislators were allowed as the regular course of business. Yeah.  I don't think the American people give a shit about that as long as they can get free stuff.

I went to my quilt "beelet" last night, which is 5-6 people (one's a guy!) who meet monthly in people's houses to chit-chat, mostly about quilts but also about anything else.

Out of nowhere this one lady (who tends to dominate every conversation anyway) just blurts out "And there's this man in Washington, Ted Cruz, TRYING TO KILL MY SON!"  He's got an artificial heart--we hear about this every month--and Obamacare removes the lifetime maximum benefit, which wasn't very big on his insurance and he'll need hugely expensive drugs and surgeries the rest of his life.

The millions of people who have lost their insurance coverage, their jobs, their doctor?  Who cares!  They need to get paying for her (middle-aged) child's handout!

And once on NPR she heard Bill Clinton say the Republicans ruined his plan for socialist healthcare in 1993 because "Once the American people get it, they'll love it so much they'll never want to give it up."

Dunno about 1993, but that seems to be true now.  Barack Free Shit Obama, mmm-mmm-mmm.

Mostly I share this story because I don't think the shit sandwich is as "wildly unpopular" with the LIV and MIV as we like to believe.  (And because I'm really depressed.  The beelet was supposed to be a fun thing and every month it turns into this horrible anti-conservative rant and I can't ever get a word in edgewise.)

Here is an excerpt from his farewell sermon: O brethren, I stand here among you today, as alive from the dead, if I may hope to impress it upon you, and induce you to prepare for that solemn hour which must come to all, by a timely acquaintance with the death of Christ More about Lyte. his faith, his service and his hymn (He wrote a number of hymns) in a very interesting article in Christianity.com http://tinyurl.com/lfg9v4o The hymn was sung at the wedding of King George VI, at the wedding of his daughter, the future Queen Elizabeth II, and at the funeral of Nobel peace prize winner Mother Teresa of Calcutta in 1997. 165 The real coup has already taken place - have you ever seen so many people in key positions of government who hate America, everything its stands for, and made it great - with a passion that borders on fanaticism; these agents who daily engage in actions designed to debilitate our social structure, economy, and military? Sappers?

Just look at me - John Kerry, war protester and medal thrower... as Sec of State?

171 How can Kerry sign UN Arms treaty despite SenatorsÂ’ Opposition? I believe that too is an impeachable offense. How many can this administration have before someone does anything to reign the SCOAMF etc back in line? Kerry lacks any diplomatic skills and should be fired, as should the JEF. I want to thank the FSA & LIVs for reelecting that fool. Too bad we have to live with the fools, they should be the ones that have to suffer the most under this administration.

192 HeatherRadish, Yes. I coincided the Latin-American traditional motivation for emigrating as recorded on the PBS documentary, the various distinct ethnic waves during the 20th Century. They came for the American Dream understood as OPPORTUNITY to work hard and enjoy upward mobility. That was the understanding until the recent socialist authoritarian conquest of our US Government. As for general current "Hispanic" (denies Identity per region/tribes of origin, btw) affinity in politics, Rubio is reminding the working Americans that Obamacare will situate them right back where they fled from, whether that be Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, you name it. And he called upon Mexico, the government and its people, to recognize the reason that Mexicans are flooding into the USA is because they lack in Mexico the opportunity to work in free enterprise.

277

There was a question upthread asking why Cruz didn't do this before Obamacare passed into law.

Beside  the fact that Cruz wasn't a senator yet, republicans decided to ignore the issue and simply say "no".  They didn't have any opposing plan, didn't want to change the one the democrats had, they just didn't want to deal with it.

Everything is fine the way it is.  Don't fuck with it.

That didn't happen and now we're stuck with Obamacare.

Next on the agenda is a change in immigration law.  The way things are now, illegals pour across the border and immediately sign up for every form of welfare known to man.  For some reason, people on the right think it's just fine, don't fuck with it.

Maybe we'll learn a lesson from Obamacare and get out in front of immigration with a bill that changes things to conservative values.  That would mean we would have to be able to talk about it without people shouting from the peanut gallery about what commie bastards they are, but maybe this walk down socialized medicine's lane will wake us up.

Nah, we're too stupid to learn from anything.

281 Ideally, Cruz et al. will put up a noble fight, win over some folks with their genuine passion, and then fail; OCare will then get funded and implemented; and OCare, an unmitigated disaster, will then be unleashed upon all the Lean Democrats and other Low Information Voters, many of whom will then finally begin an Awakening that will lead them away from the Democrat Party of Lies and Economic Incompetence.

I think this is another Syria-like situation.  Obama 'n Thugs are looking for a way out, they're secretly rooting for Republicans to delay OCare as long as possible, because it allows Dems to continue lying about how great it WILL be or WOULD have been and how these GREAT BLESSINGS would have been bestowed upon ALL AMERICANS but for the EVIL REPUBLICANS.  But if the law is fully implemented, there isn't enough lipstick in the universe to purty up that pig of a law.

They didn't have any opposing plan, didn't want to change the one the democrats had, they just didn't want to deal with it." That is NOT how ObamaCare went down. If you weren't paying attention, viewing CSPAN Republican arguments permitted at night from the floor, you'd assume "just say no" was all Republicans were arguing because the media portrayed that stupid message. There were MANY (too many) Republican bills sponsored during the Democrat's SINGULAR GARGANTUAN inaffordable "Affordable" health care bill that passed on strict party line majority vote. The best Republican Health Care Bill of all, which all other Republicans should have united to broadcast for American awareness, was the bill sponsored by the Congressional Caucus of Physicians that limited itself to succinct means of lowering the cost of medical treatment for Americans. That bill should be pulled back to the fray now. Why get stuck trying to "rediscover" the wheel? The thing missing in Republican Leadership is integrity, which makes them good for nothing. Cruz maintains integrity, calling Americans to unite and maintain our vision, calling on all Members of Congress including Republican Leadership and Democratic members to Stand With the Little Guy. The Republican corporatist Leadership are again proving themselves as "insensitive" to the working class. They make themselves the permanent minority, representing the best interests of the 1% elitist authoritarians. Until THEY change, they work against US. No one is stopping Legislators from supporting their oath to protect the US Constitution. Their own objective is to defile. Their reason for butchering life? "Because I Could."

I do not like your smug replies, when I complain about your lies. I do not like this kind of hope. I do not like it, nope, nope, nope!

334 With all the animosity in Congress these days, I think Cruz will probably have to end his speech like this one ended.

Why? A "SHIELD Agent Is Actually An LMD!" reveal is pretty much a mandatory. It's about as true to the genre as you can get.

Because I like Coulson.  So I would prefer my option 3.  I can of course see them introducing the LMD's and then having the speculation that is what he is as a red herring though.

343 295 Cruz quoting Ayn Rand Posted by: BCochran1981 - Credible Hulk at September 25, 2013 08:58 AM (GEICT) Yes. Given two sides in an argument, the real evil exists in the middle, where nothing holds true. I paraphrase from last night. Cruz said that though he does not agree with those who believe in the single payer system, he acknowledges that at least they stand on their premise. He said then that people who say one thing but do another, pledging allegiance when really sabotaging, are traitors with no respect.

354 I believe the long knives have been out on Ted Cruz shortly after he was sworn in as a senator. When did Paul have his filibuster on drones? In the spring? ThatÂ’s when McStain started calling them Wacko Birds. I read something on my iPhone Monday and some fool on McStainÂ’s staff let it be know that he canÂ’t Effing stand Cruz. Nice talk from the senate. Juan McStain has no class. Dick Cheney has class, he called someone out on the senate floor, rather that to have some aide have it circulated in a magazine. McStain doesnÂ’t have the balls to say it to TedÂ’s face!

"With all due respect for the institutions, why we have to pay for this nonsense, like this Ted Cruz talking for all that time, just to hold a position that nobody wants? 359 Well slap me silly.
The Maryland State Police have just issued a statement saying that despite the new gun control law, which goes into effect on 01 Oct requiring anyone receiving a regulated firearm (aka pistol) to hold a Handgun Qualification License, with no grandfathering to those who ordered/payed for prior to that date, they are going to ignore the law, and allow the receipt of these guns after 01 October.

For any 2A enthusiasts here at Moron central, swing by mdshooters, com and read the threads under the 2A forum.
Changing moment by moment, but I suspect that Governor O'Malley is going to wind up eating a bag of dicks after the lawsuits get filed.

369 we are witnessing a coup in the Republican Party.

Posted by: thunderb at September 25, 2013 08:06 AM (zOTsN)

No, we're not seeing a coup. Money talks, and the big money donors who bankroll favored Republican politicians at the state and national levels are enormously powerful within the GOP. They were/are the ones pushing the Gang of 8 immigration reform deal because of the low wage effect an influx of millions of suddenly legalized low-paid workers will provide. They brought Rubio on board as the conservative front man for that deal, no doubt with the promise of lots of campaign cash when (now if) he makes his presidential run. They're the ones who fund Rove. They're the ones who promote Jeb Bush as a viable presidential candidate when there is nothing about Jeb Bush--accomplishments, demeanor, intellect--that sets him apart from any other middle-of-the-road former governor.

I advocate a populist Republican Party, one that champions working people of all classes, the makers not the takers, many of them the people formerly called Reagan Democrats. And if we were one of those South American banana republics, I'd also advocate putting those amoral, unpatriotic moneymen and their very highly paid and utterly worthless consultants against the nearest wall.
