I don't give a damn if Republicans are in the majority if they're going to vote like Democrats. These idiots need to understand we don't give a rip about their party, we care about people who are going to fight the Dems.

The goal is not to elect "Republicans." The goal is to elect people who believe what you believe and who will DO what you voted for them to do.
DC is broken, corrupt, unconstitutional, whatever.
This must end.

This will end. The questions are does it become a true tyranny or revert to the original American form of government, by peaceful or violent means, and how soon?

That is interesting... I wouldn't have followed the link until you pointed it out. I would have just assumed if Gabe says Byron York said, that it meant that Byron York said it.
No, it's by some guy named Timothy Carney, whoever that is.
Even so, the guy is not presenting it as some sort of distortion by Cruz and Lee, but as a presentation, much like I and a lot of other people around here see it. Which is to say, if Cruz and Lee are "painting" Republican leadership as having a lack of principles (or secret liberalism), it's because some paintings are realist representations of actual truth.
Hey Republicans, if you don't want to be portrayed as lacking principles, show some!

It remains an interesting question: just how far into letting Obamacare take effect are the R leaders in Washington?
There is a theory, that they know it's going to happen, and they want to be seen as getting behind it, because they know people will come to love it someday, and they don't want history to paint them as being obstructionists on this issue.
Does that make them liberals?
Probably not. Probably unprincipled is the most accurate description, but there is no doubt that some of them really really ARE liberals.

Just by the fact that you know what century it was, I doubt that you wonder.
The path to citizenship (and colonist settler benefits) was through the Army. And that's exactly what they gave. IIRC, Gibbon blamed Christianity for this.
You might make a pretty good pro-Vandal (or at least pro-Visigoth) argument that the Roman government didn't stand by its promises. After reading up on what went down, at the very least you'd never make fun of Ethelred the Unready again.

Also, with the MFM warming up their blame finger to point at no one but the Repubs, I've noticed a lot of claims of 'the law is settled' re OCare.
Really? Like the laws to deport illegal aliens? Like the laws to build the damn fence? Like the laws about contempt of Congress (waves at Eric Holder)? Like the laws about not giving aid to terrorist orgs like Al Qeada (Syria) or the Muslim Brotherhood (Egypt)? Like the laws about how a bankruptcy should proceed (GM and Chrysler)?
I could go on and on, but it seems clear to me that some laws are moar better than others. Specifically, those that the current administration don't like are well worth ignoring, while the ones they support are written in stone.

You don't like Cruz and Lee's tactics, fine.
But what exactly was the GOP leadership's tactic for undoing the PPACA? Because, as far as I can tell, they didn't have one. They certainly didn't want to defund it. They didn't seem to want to delay it. They didn't want to shut down the government. So what did they want?
I would feel a lot worse for the Republicans in the Senate and House (as opposed to the conservatives) if any of them actually seemed interested in undoing the law or cutting spending. But they don't seem to be.
Am I missing something here? If I am, please tell me. Because, from where I sit, it seems like Cruz, Lee, and the people who stood with them were the only ones actually doing anything--everyone else was just sniping.
An engaged, energetic debate about the best way to solve this problem would have been wonderful. But Cruz and Lee seemed to be the only side with a plan.
And, sorry, but if the only way to reclaim control of the Senate is to "elect more Republicans" like Lindsey Graham and John McCain, then I think it's better off in Democrat control. Who can even tell the difference anyway?

This is one of those things that will divide "conservatives," if that's the right word for it. Brooks had no business going into the Senate chamber, he was a Congressman. Sumner's "crime" was being an abolitionist, and being very direct about not wanting to play games with semantics on the Senate floor.
Many southerners objected to that, and what prompted Brooks to act was a supposed slight on some other southern politician, I think a Senator.
So Brooks came in and started beating him. Not a very brave or chivalrous thing to do, and frankly in spite of the talk around here, I don't WANT our politicians beating each other in the Capitol building.

It wasn't a "supposed slight". He actually called the other Senator names and accused him of "prostituting himself". Brooks who was the Senator's cousin wanted to challenge him to a duel but since Sumner was not a "gentleman" he could not challenge him.

The House added this one, and both the Senate and preezy have said it is dead on arrival. It's already proven to be a job and innovation killer, and was put into the ACA to help get the overall 10 year price tag down under $1 trillion. So repealing it would drive up the cost and the deficit, but Dems don't care about deficits anyhow and a repeal of the tax would make the ACA less onerous overall.
So if you reside in LiB land, a repeal of the tax is bad. Yet the Dems oppose it; maybe they want the whole mess to burn too?
It's a puzzler of sorts.

"Cruz and Lee painted differences in tactics as a lack of principle — or a sign of secret liberalism."
This is sort a disingenuous argument. For there be a "difference in tactics," the establishment would have a to *have* a tactic for defunding/ending ObamaCare first. They don't. As such, their "tactic" is to allow ObamaCare to stand unimpeded - which is in fact liberalism.

Extortion, straight up.
The stupid GOP leadership enables this behavior by the democrats by first saying they will not shutdown the government, that there are always options and negotiations, that their offers are strictly that, negotiating positions offered up for the democrats consideration, and if the democrats don't like the offered concessions, the GOP offer more concessions.

That's the trick. First, for approximately the same premium someone is paying now, offer a plan with exceptionally higher deductibles. All the press will report on is that premiums are the same or lower.
With the subsidies, soon the poor will have much better healthcare than those in the middle. So now, the rich will continue to get the best, along with the poor who are getting massive subsidies. Those making more the 50K (the sweet spot for tapping big money) will get soaked.
Typical.

The states that have published premium prices are pretty much in line with what you expect for a comprehensive insurance plan. I believe maximum out of pocket for individuals is $6250 per year and $12500 for families. There will, of course, be extremes like the one you noted, but BCBS will not be providing that kind of plan on the cheap.
Yes, the design of this POS is indeed very tricky. They though they could suck people in and get them dependent on the subsidies... but the subsidies are only meaningful to the relatively poor people. And if you are really poor, you get put on Medicaid under ACA anyway.
The bottom line is there is still a lot out of pocket in either premiums, deductibles and co-pays that many who are currently uninsured will balk at.
I'd be interested to hear what the premiums are for that BCBS plan when you get the numbers.

I stopped contributing after SCF contribution recipient Rubio went RINO on amnesty. Maybe I should start again.

For only controlling 1/3 of the government, the GOP has managed to stop the DREAM Act, gun control, and a potential war in Syria. You can hate the GOP all you want but saying they're the same as Democrats is just objectively incorrect.

Maybe we wouldn't have been able to get Mike Castle's vote to defund or delay. But we'd have a hell of a lot better chance getting his vote than Chris Coons.
The same could be said about Jane Norton and Michael Bennet, Jerry Tarkanian and Harry Reid, Dick Lugar and Joe Donnelly, and John Brunner/Sarah Steelman and Claire McCaskill. Hey, that would put the GOP at fifty seats right there. And if we add in that it would have been easier to get Lisa Murkowski's vote before the Joe Miller challenge...
Now, the Tea Party is a wonderful movement. It has given the country Rubio, Toomey, Lee, Cruz, Paul...good Senators, those. And it certainly didn't cause all the losses in winnable seats, either. Montana and North Dakota this last time should have been gimmes, and those are just the two I thought of immediately -- and it's not as though Tea Partiers in those states didn't turn out to support Rehberg and Berg. But let's not pretend as though the Tea Party hasn't been a bit of a double-edged sword electorally.
