As hard as it is to believe, the Obama administration will probably do something more asinine today than it ever has before. It seems to have a bottomless well of capacity in that regard.

So we have something to look Forward! to, I guess.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, September 05, 2013.  On this day in 1793 the French reign of terror begins.  This is what happens in most revolutions once one party gains control.

17    Good morning,

I finally found an old military sci-fi book that is entirely appropriate for this week's Syrian debacle:

http://www.amazon.com/Redliners-David-Drake/dp/0671877895

Amazon describes the story as "burned out troops are assigned one last suicidal mission that makes very little sense."  Sounds pretty topical to me....

64 11.24 That report on the Pope's phone call to Assad has come from Clarin, a highly-respected newspaper in Pope Francis's homeland of Argentina. Here's the full article, in Spanish. Essentially it says that the Pope "in the last few hours" has telephoned Assad, asking him to stop the repression of the rebels and adopt a more conciliatory attitude. The paper speculates that Francis could call the White House to try and persuade Obama not to attack Syria - Denis McDonough, Obama's chief of staff, is a Catholic, and some see him as having convinced Obama to delay the strike. How naive can these people be?

78 But AP also suggests keeping an eye on "US-Russia body language." Even without Syria, Obama and Putin had plenty to disagree about. Obama snubbed the Russian leader, cancelling a one-on-one meeting over lack of progress on other issues too - including Russia's harboring of Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency contractor who exposed U.S. surveillance of emails and phone calls of Americans and foreigners. The U.S. strongly opposes arrests of political opponents and a new law against gay "propaganda." Body language may be key to understanding where the U.S.-Russia relationship is going: Will Obama and Putin shake hands? Will they make small talk over dinner at Peter the Great's resplendent Peterhof Palace? Will other leaders take sides?

"Redliners" is a great book, I've read it at least three or four times since I came out (I used to be a huge Drake fan, read everything he wrote.)  The only reason I brought it up was for the ironic title and the fact that the story brilliantly illustrates how nasty warfare can really get (and how quickly things can go wrong for even the most carefully prepared military operations.)

There was at least some passing CIA effort to develop evidence on Saddam. Today the argument is little more than "OMG wasn't that youtube video awful, eleventy!!!"

And of course they expect us to forget that the last time anyone tried to make a fuss about chemical weapons in Syria, they had to disappear the story once it started looking like the rebels had been the ones to deploy them.

Passes a tighter resolution then the Senate - who rubber stamps it in a middle of the night procedure vote. 3. Putin moves a bunch of hot, blonde female soldiers to Syria. With lots of media eyeballs. 4. We bluster some more. 5. Some whacked Alawite attacks a Maronite village "allied" with Assad, with Sarin - throwing blame onto to rebels. 6. We back down to a no fly zone, until Putin complains - then we quietly say fuck it.

144 Stories behind the great hymns: ""Stand By Me" This favorite hymn of many by Charles Tindley who rose from being a slave with no schooling and an orphan to being a janitor and then pastor of a several churches and made a significant positive difference in the lives of many http://bereanbibleheritage.org/extraordinary/tindley_charles.php Here is a version with Elvis Presley. I don't really think of Presley as primarily a Gospel singer but of course he did sing Gospel songs and does a nice job here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNjq54fgkhU And here's Tennessee Ernie Ford singing it in his magnificent voice. The video has powerful images and mentions "hurricanes", and of course it could be used as a comfort in dealing with that, but as it mentions "fault and failures and friends misunderstanding" etc it really has relevance to lots of other things people deal with. If you're going through the storms of life may you feel the presence of the Lord standing by you today!

The spineless in the House, on both sides, but primarily the Democrats, will watch the declared pre-vote totals. At that point, they will vote YES or abstain, allowing blame to go to the GOP and avoiding any Administration or voting base backlash. It's cynical and political, but I repeat myself.

TESTY: Weiner balls out NYC voter...

heh. said a mouthful...

I read an article somewhere that made it out to be Weiner put the voter in his place.  I'm still trying to grasp how yelling at a potential voter with a camera rolling is putting him in his place.  I guess I'm just not politically-savvy enough.

166: "You do know that was Ace satire right?"

I make no claims of actually knowing anything.

I would normally blame it on Cpt. Morgan, but I'm at work, so that would be debunked as well.

Or would it......?

173 So there really was a Kaboom cereal back in 1969.  I have never seen it on any shelves at the store. Of course along about that time I wasn't going to a lot of stores.

174 Posted by: FenelonSpoke at September 05, 2013 08:48 AM (j+lCW) If the rebels win, there will be an ethnic cleansing of christians, shiites, and all the other minorities in Syria. That's why the Arab states want to bankroll our attack - so the Sunni majority can kill these groups off.

175 They are NOT going to allow their foothold in the region to disappear. Putin calling Kerry a liar - and using those words in a public statement - should be a major signal to go no further. Especially telling was Putin's statement that firing on Syria would have "tragic" consequences. That statement was disturbing to me. Don't provoke the bear.

176 "120 Some people think that the idea that the Administration would use a chem attack by the rebels in Syria as an excuse to attack Assad and help the MB and AQ is tin foil hat insanity.

Remember when the idea that the administration would run guns to Mexico in order to gin up an anti 2nd Amendment campaign was tin foil hat insanity?

Or the notion that they would use the IRS to target opponents was insanity?

Yeah.

Not only is there no reason to believe TFG won't fuck this up, there is no reason to believe anything he or his administration says.

You left out using federal government agencies to block all efforts to mitigate the effects of that oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in order to justify halting all future exploration and drilling there.  The rigs have been shipped off to Brazil and Africa years ago now.  Not only would more oil production in the Gulf lower gas prices for Americans, it would bring back 100,000 good paying jobs along the Gulf Coast.

It was mostly a regional thing...

K-Mart had it in the Midwest when bought in bulk...

so did Odd Lots near the end of its life...

there is a poetic justice in that....

181 “We swear to the Lord of the Throne, that this is our oath: We will take revenge.” -- Syrian Rebels Disgust aside, exactly who the hell is this "Lord of the Throne"? WHAT Throne? Syria's Royalty? I'm not familiar with that phrase used to describe God/Allah. The ancient Arabic reference to God was The Ancient of Days. The Islamic God/Allah is supposed to be THE mystery, not a mere man deified. In fact, that's why they reject the deification of the great prophet Jesus. Satire, since wittingly or not, it's Mohammad they worship as if God/Allah.

186 183 again, ironic that they humanize their God/Allah of vengeance* as a deified Mohammad. I'll link to that and read in context. Thanks, FenelonSpoke. *Previously, I'd noted that the old testament's Jealous God of Vengeance who claims all Canaanites as his own people, whether Semitic, Egyptians who forsake their magic for him, or Assyrians, shares too much in common with Muhammad's Allah to ignore. Read Ezekiel, for instance. Heavenly messengers are described like genies. God Almighty curses Israel for being more disgusting than a whore, since whores at least charge money, whereas Israel pays to be the whore, the ungrateful concubine chosen by this God who gifted her with fine linens, jewelry and a ring for her nose. Jesus, the Son of Man, came not to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. What law? To LOVE God (Our loving Father In Heaven) with our entire being, and to love fellow humans as we love ourselves, and to forgive in order to be forgiven. Notice that Jesus was the first to call "my God and your God" Our Father in Heaven, and to reference the god of love in the male rather than restricted to a female goddess of love. Then again, the Holy Ghost Comforter Jesus promised to send was accepted by the first generations of Christians as Sophia.

187 Quran Chapter 9 (sūrat l-tawbah) The Repentance verse 129 Sahih International: But if they turn away, [O Muhammad], say, "Sufficient for me is Allah ; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne." -- I wonder what Quran Chapter 9 on Repentance stipulates beyond what loving religions teach, trusting in the Lord God of compassion, and from the Bible, the call to turn from sin (missing the mark) and living the "good" life of obedience to the Law and Commandments. Ultimately, Love and do unto others as you would have done unto you. How different really was it under the primitive "eye for an eye" law of Moses or the law according to Muhammad? Jews stoned their prophets who came calling the people to repentance. Jews stoned their women "caught" having sex with men (males never punished) outside of marriage. Israelites slaughtered their relative tribes not only to gain the land of Canaan for themselves, but then to selectively discriminate amongst themselves which tribes got to have it all, making outside alliances with empires in order to destroy, enslave or exterminate their other tribes of Israel. Those Israelites who were taken into bondage, once released, returned to Judea to once again foment strife over who gets to be top dog via political, religious, and military combat. Those Israelites who managed to not be taken captive into Babylon were deemed "less worthy" by the captives who returned by the good graces of the Persian Cyrus, noted by the Jews as The Messiah. Two thing about their captivity. One was that the captives decided their god was not only THEIR god, but everyone's god, and punishment for disobedience was what they were enduring. Two was that Jews absorbed foreign-to-their-god cultural practices that they returned to assimilate into religious life in Jerusalem, the sophistry of being cosmopolitan. The returning captives set free were not about to return to the old ways. They snubbed the old school for their own revisionism, and won the day for a time, until the next destruction. We today visualize a completely different concept of what was going on "once upon a time" according to a revisionist history for dummies, since too few of our nation's entire population take the time to read through the ENTIRE old testament. What Jesus accomplished was quite the feat, requiring people to love each other, especially to forgive ceaselessly, in order to experience the kingdom of God in our hearts, and life eternal. His final testament to Caesar's Pilot was to find truth, that the kingdom of God is NOT of this world. (Constantine conveniently revised for his own empire ambitions.) Muhammad saw how Constantine succeeded, corrupting Christianity for the sake of empire. He decided to do the same, but skipping Jesus all together, reverting to his own ignorant/opportunistic illiterate fundamentalist version of the ancient Canaanite jealous god of vengeance. Whereas the Israelite God called upon the people to repent, and turned over the unrepentant to be abused by empires, Mohammad's revision of "The God" Allah failed to make any impact gaining willing converts during Mohammad's life. From Mohammad, it has always been about exterminating free will. Therein, whatever good accompanies Islam, the villainy against the true gift of light, love, truth from the ultimate source of life, GOD granting inalienable rights, proves Muslim malice. As per any terrorists who presume to make themselves the vigilante executioners of inalienable rights, that "throne" is not righteousness. The Merciful God responds, "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7 http://biblehub.com/kjv/matthew/7.htm
