Tuesday Morning Link Dump
— Pixy Misa

I typed up an entire page of links but Moveable Type sent it to the phantom zone with General Zod.

You will have to settle for this hilarious video. Apparently some kid named Nate wrestled Dzhokhar in high school. Nate decided to put video of the fight on youtube.

17 Brokaw blamed U.S for the attacks - because of our drones.
Also said we need to have a national conversation on out "culture of violence" - guns, video games, etc., as ift they were all related.

Fox News:  Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw strongly suggested Sunday that America is partly to blame for the gruesome terrorists attacks in Boston, because the young, Muslim men involved may have felt “alienated” and angry over U.S. drone strikes on “innocent civilians” in Muslim countries abroad.

“I think we also have to examine the use of drones that the United States is involved (in), and there are a lot of civilians who are innocently killed in a drone attack in Pakistan, in Afghanistan and in Iraq.   Me?  I'd like to shove a pressure cooker up his ass and spark it.

24 Thanks for the video Ben K. It was funny and a good way to start the day. Brokaw said something about US drone policy, I didn't hear all of it. I put FNC on briefly last night and caught O'Reilly's show on the second time. I changed it when I saw Juan Williams on, it's hard enough to stomach Bill. The drone policy has been changed by TFG, he's the one that has been killing terrorists with them. It should be viewed as a dig at TFG but he wouldn't dare say it.

51 O/T, but I was late to yesterday's "anchorman" fuckup thread.  We had sort of the exact opposite situation happen long ago...

A very long-time local weatherman in San Antonio finally retired (about 25 years ago).  He was an absolutely wonderful guy; he was a WWII vet (Army Air Corp IIRC) like most of the very early local weathermen.  He was absolutely beloved by local viewers and the community.

Well, he was doing his last newscast, finished the weather (in the middle of the newscast), and basically just said "so long and thanks".  But the station, at the end of the newscast, did a retrospective of his time there which was wonderful.  Then they went back live to the studio,  and you could tell the guy was choking up.  The female anchor gave him a hug, and he managed to say thanks again as he choked back some tears.  Then they started their fade-out music, but they kept the camera and a hot mic on him.  He thought the newscast was over, and broke down in tears, saying "G_ddammit I thought I could make it through the newscast without breaking up!"

I've always hoped that, somehow, the rest of the City kept that moment a secret from him....

58 Love that video.  Heh.

There was some good discussion of the internet sales tax in the last thread.  I thought Lizabth nailed a lot of good points.  There are currently 9,600 sales tax authorities in the US.  State, county, city, special assessors like transit systems, sports stadiums etc etc etc.  When I called my congress critter to ask how in the hell I am supposed to deal with 9600 masters, I was told that the law is supposed to simplify this down.  Down to what?  No one knows yet.  Those that said Amazon supports this now are correct.  Amazon is going to sell software to smaller companies like mine that will help them comply, giving Amazon a cut of every sale we all make.  I will have to hire at least 1 full time person to deal with this.  Maybe more.  That is a big F-ing deal.

69 Tom Brokaw - 1941 edition: Of course America is partly to blame for the attack at Perl Harbor since we had all those provocative Battleships lined up and we had soldiers occupying Hawaii and terrorizing the peaceful Japanese civilians. And besides we kept the Japanese Ambassador from being able to deliver the final message to our Ambassador by letting the Japanese only have a crappy manual typewriter.

Of course the 1941 edition of Tom Brokaw would have been found in a trash heap after having been run over repeatedly by a series of garbage trucks.

Not least because it was in the 1980s that I began to realize the country was rotting culturally and intellectually, and morning network television, which was just as vacuous then as it is now, epitomizes that rot. A strong stable healthy culture would have nothing to do with that empty-headed nonsense.

132 Anti 2A reporter gets smacked in the face by NJ gun laws when buying a BB gun. http://tinyurl.com/cu2vafb "You'll need a license for that," the clerk informed me when I asked to see a modestly-priced BB gun. Surprised but undaunted, I whipped out my drivers license and slid it across the counter. At which point it was obvious to me that it was obvious to him I'm not a gun person. "To buy a gun in New Jersey you need a Firearm Purchaser ID Card from your Township's police chief. Even a BB gun. Can't even take one down to show you without it." For better or worse, there would be no BB gun that day. Not for me anyway. Without a comprehensive criminal background check first I couldn't buy one. I couldn't even look at one. Not even a pink one. ----- Goes on to list the steps he needed to go through for a BB gun. And he comes to a REVELATION!! ------ Based my limited experience, it seems like when gun laws are written (mostly) by liberals (like me) who don't feel connected to gun culture you might end up with a hot-mess-of-a-law that makes it needlessly complicated for law-abiding tax-payers who wish to comply with the rules to acquire a gun for any non-crazy reason. ------ Yay! Awww shit. ----- On the other hand, the gun laws coming out of Washington DC are dictated by the NRA to conservative handmaidens in the House and Senate who are beholden to tea party whack jobs primary voters and the gun lobby. The idea of some deranged lunatic assembling a deadly cache in a McDonald's parking lot is chilling and infuriating. With 40% of firearm transactions happening off the grid (via straw purchasing, for example,) it's simply too easy for stupid people to get guns in America. And we have the NRA and Republicans in Congress to blame for it.

137 The immigration proposal pending in Congress would transform the nation’s political landscape for a generation or more — pumping as many as 11 million new Hispanic voters into the electorate a decade from now in ways that, if current trends hold, would produce an electoral bonanza for Democrats and cripple Republican prospects in many states they now win easily. Beneath the philosophical debates about amnesty and border security, there are brass-tacks partisan calculations driving the thinking of lawmakers in both parties over comprehensive immigration reform, which in its current form offers a pathway to citizenship — and full voting rights — for a group of undocumented residents that roughly equals the population of Ohio, the nation’s seventh-largest state. If these people had been on the voting rolls in 2012 and voted along the same lines as other Hispanic voters did last fall, President Barack Obama’s relatively narrow victory last fall would have been considerably wider, a POLITICO analysis showed. Key swing states that Obama fought tooth and nail to win — like Florida, Colorado and Nevada — would have been comfortably in his column. And the president would have come very close to winning Arizona. Republican Mitt Romney, by contrast, would have lost the national popular vote by 7 percentage points, 53 percent to 46 percent, instead of the 4-point margin he lost by in 2012, and would have struggled even to stay competitive in GOP strongholds like Texas, which he won with 57 percent of the vote. The analysis is based on U.S. Census and Pew Research Center estimates of illegal immigrant populations by state, and presidential exit polls showing how Obama and Romney performed among Latinos. Maybe, Maybe not, but it is certainly food for thought

Posted by: jwest at April 23, 2013 08:52 AM I'm pretty tired of this excuse. Small town business need to quit whining and start competing. For a start how about not marking everything up by 100%, maybe offer to match prices, maybe offer a free warranty, anything it's called capitalism. I used to worked for a small salon, and the owner always bitched that the little old ladies should show her some loyalty and buy local. I told her she should mark down her products and quit trying to get 100% mark up profit. She wouldn't do it, so the little old ladies either went to JcPennys and got their hairspray for 30 % less or they waited for the owner to put the old hairspray that's been on the shelf for a year on the clearance rack. The internet is not going away, and it's a lot more convenient to buy on the internet sometimes, give the shoppers a reason to buy local.

Maybe I'm overestimating how much cops can do in this sort of situation, but it truly is amazing to me how these two guys put the cops on their heels so effectively... and they were dumb as shit. Hang On Sloopy is the official state rock song of Ohio.

and

"WHEREAS, Adoption of this resolution will not take too long, cost the State anything, or affect the quality of life in this State to any appreciable degree, and if we in the legislature just go ahead and pass the darn thing, we can get on with more important stuff."[

Yes - Love the humor & the defiance of the video.
The MSM has already launched into full puff-piece coverage of the victims - how they were rescued and they're recovering. This is all well and good, but it might as well be about people recovering from a tornado or earthquake with the way that the scrupulously ignore the terrorism angle. No questions about how the victim is dealing with the reason for their injury, how they feel about the terrorists being caught, etc. It's weird, considering how much the Newtown parents are asked to opine about how/why their children were killed..

BRIAN LEVIN: Look, it's not like people who are Muslim who do wacky things have a monopoly on it. We have hypocrites across faiths, Jewish, Christian who say they're out for God and end up doing not so nice things.

MAHER: You know what? Yeah, yeah. You know what? That's liberal bullshit right there. I mean, yes, all faiths --

LEVIN: Are there no Christian hypocrites?

MAHER: No, there are. They're just --

LEVIN: You make a career on that.

MAHER: They're not as dangerous. I mean, there's only one faith, for example, that kills you or wants to kill you if you draw a bad cartoon of the prophet. ThereÂ’s only one faith that kills you or wants to kill you if you renounce the faith. An ex-Muslim is a very dangerous thing. Talk to Salman Rushdie after the show about Christian versus Islam. So, you know, IÂ’m just saying, let's keep it real. (Real Time, April 19, 2013)

It's easy to pick the lowest-hanging fruit.  So easy, you shouldn't get credit for doing so.

It's like Chris Rock talking about deadbeat black parents wanting credit for the basic level of responsibility: "I take care of my kids.   YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO YOU DUMB MUTHAFUCKA!!!!!  What do you want, a cookie????"

Maher should try and go after some muslims and question them hard about violence, or maybe show those cartoons on his show and see what happens.

There are distinct blocs within the GOP which don't get along particularly well.

There are many Western-state libertarian types who are uncomfortable with the Christian social conservative viewpoint. And vice versa.

Some Christian social conservatives figure that libertarianism is just a slippery slope to libertinism. While some Western libertarian types figure that Christian social conservatism is a slippery slope into "good shepherd" big-government nanny statism, as exemplified by Huckabee.

Democrats have exploited those schisms artfully.

If we don't hang together, we shall all surely hang separately. Time to start building bridges across those internal schisms. No time like the present.

Of course, in the "article" itself, they go on to say that, why yes, of course they used WMD! Why, there's a federal law that even defines what WMD is!

290 The 1990s and 2000s saw a resurgence in Diamond's popularity. "Sweet Caroline" became a popular sing-along at sporting events, starting with Boston College football and basketball games. Most notably it is the theme song for Red Sox Nation, the fans of the Boston Red Sox, although Diamond noted that he has been a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers.[23] The song is also played during the 8th inning of every New York Mets home game. The New York Rangers have also adapted it as their own, and play it when they are winning at the end of the 3rd period. The Pitt Panthers football team also plays it after the third quarter of all home games, with the crowd cheering, "Let's go Pitt". The Carolina Panthers play it at the end of each home game when they win. The Davidson College pep band plays it at every Davidson Wildcats men's basketball home games, in the second half. . Diamond admitted in 2007 that he had written "Sweet Caroline" for Caroline Kennedy after seeing her on the cover of Life in an equestrian riding outfit.[17] It took him just one hour, in a Memphis hotel, to write and compose it

The twisted tweet lust for Boston bombing suspect: ‘Jahar is hot,’ can ‘blow me up with babies’

TWITCHY: http://tiny.cc/lyzzvw

Yep, there's just something about that Roman nose and the penchant towards murder and mayhem that just make    a     childkiller like     Joker so damn SEXXXXY.

And people wonder why I hate 85-95% of the women I interact with.

The second is     hilarious,   and I leave it with y'all    just for the humor value.

Teamsters head Hoffa tries to squash his own employeesÂ’ union

DAILY CALLER: http://tiny.cc/r4zzvw

Couldn't happen to a better    (*SNORT!*)    group of goons.

Seems as good a time as any to proclaim my standard battle cry!     *climbs up on     soapbox*

Disband and dismantle ALL UNIONS!

*leaps down from soapbox*

And now I must away!   TTYL, 'Rons and "Ettes!

"There are many Western-state libertarian types who are uncomfortable with the Christian social conservative viewpoint. And vice versa."

That is not exclusive to The West - it's everywhere and it is the nature of coalition building within a 50% + 1.  We all have to put on our big boy pants and see the bigger picture once the primaries are done.

Regardless of the above, I don't think it's the main problem in MT.  The problem, like Colorado's more extreme example, is the importation of unchecked numbers of Kali libtards over the last 20 years or so.

375 Mark the Rube's Amnesty specifically encourages applicants to lie on their application--there's no penalty for lying and no funds to verify anything in the applications.

Every single positive that Mark the Rube touts in his amnesty bill is specifically designed to be gutted when it is enacted by the responsible agency.

Mark the Rube's bill specifically mandates that anything and everything in the application is confidential and cannot--CANNOT--be shared with any other agency.

So, they can lie and lie and lie about being here for 10 years and all the taxes they should have paid but turn around and lie and lie and lie to the IRS and there isn't a damned thing the IRS can do.

No one granted amnesty under Mark the Rube's bill will pay back taxes.
