16 So the geniuses at the Department of Defense are about to destroy over a billion dollars worth of unused ammunition.

(This after midway through the previous decade, the DoD panicked and paid top dollar prices for ammo to resolve a "shortage".)

Of course, they could dispose of the ammo that's in civilian-compatible calibers by auctioning it off to the general public. Who have been suffering through the highest ammo prices in history.

But if they did make it available to the public, then a bunch of you bitter clingers would probably take the ammo and load it in "high capacity magazine clips". Perhaps even fire it from a weapon with "a shoulder thing that goes up".

Sorry, but Your Betters and the Top Men simply can't allow that to happen. The ammo must all be destroyed instead.

The handicap tag rules in MO allow me to use the tag when dropping off or picking up Mother-in-law. But this creates a humorous as all get out situation when I stick up the tag, step out of the car and head to wherever I'm getting her. I got some nasty looks once doing that. Until I came out with my incredibly stubborn MIL who should be in a wheelchair but instead is trying to make it with the walker. (Similar things have happened when I'm out with her and the wife, and we've left something in the car so I run out and get it while they stay wherever they are.)

Needing a gun permit even to engage in my Right to Keep and Bear Arms (which means military-grade weapons, btw- tell that to the gun-grabbers) violates the idea that it is a Right. You do not need a permit to "assemble" anywhere. If you and 100 other people want to get together on the steps of the Capitol Building, there's nothing that says you can't. If you cause a problem, you may be removed, but there's not actually a problem with you having assembled. Permits for parades or rallies are about use of public property, NOT your Right of Assembly.

I don't know...on one hand, it's nice to have more scifi movies come out.  On the other hand, it's Hollywood and they can fuck up a remake like no one else can.  The trailers remind me of Cloverfield and Pacific Rim, both of which were just ok in my book.

It depends where you live.  I lived in NYC for years where you had to be on constant guard about everything.  Then after an interim move I ended up in a seaside town south of Boston.  First week there I saw that someone had left a Cadillac running, keys in it, while they went into a store.

 

Being able to feel safe about that sort of thing is a true luxury.  Like not having to lock your doors.

Couldn't do that because of sewer lines and underground cables. Each and every regulatory agency responded to being told that it was physically impossible to comply with fuck you, pay me.

The ADA was one of the worst laws--naturally, it was passed by Republicans.

There's an crippled attorney in CA that made millions paying people to go to small mom-and-pop stores around the state, pretend they couldn't get in and then he'd sue the hell out of them--all under the ADA.

Those handicapped parking spots piss me off every time I see them--makes me want to go all Cool Hand Luke on them.

I recall it being the last act of the Democrat congress in 1994 before they got their asses kicked. I remember this so distinctly because I was quite upset with the requirement to put all those handicapped parking spaces outside of every business, which mostly remain unused. The Dems noticed this apparently, because they gradually relaxed the requirements as to what constituted "handicapped" so as to get enough people to park in those spaces in order to make it appear that they were needed. I know quite a few people with those handicap signs hanging from their mirrors, and not a damn one of them is handicapped in the traditional understanding of the term.

204 A weird thing happened with the signs. Brannon had a bunch of red and white, block-letter signs that were pretty popular, Tillis had a sort of similar looking sign, still does, and it's reasonably well represented. Anyway, one day all the red Brannon signs disappeared, and there were dozens on the route I take. I didn't know what was up. A couple days later, a few Brannon signs were back, but not nearly as many, and with a totally different design. Nice looking signs. I figure the campaign thought they needed the red ones some where else. Maybe they've given up on Winston-Salem, or maybe they think they have it clinched or maybe they just desperately needed signs no matter where they came from.

The trailer I saw was the one covering the different classes.  From the looks of it, it reminded me a lot of the ME trailer that also covered the different classes.  Honestly, I had trouble differentiating the different classes in Destiny.  They all looked very similar and did similar things.

The history of the ADA did not begin on July 26, 1990 at the signing ceremony at the White House.

The ADA, as we know it today, went through numerous drafts, revisions, negotiations, and amendments since the first version was introduced in 1988. Spurred by a draft bill prepared by the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency whose members were appointed by President Reagan, Senator Weicker and Representative Coelho introduced the first version of the ADA in April 1988 in the 100th Congress.

Justin Dart, Chair of the Congressional Task Force on the Rights and Empowerment of People with Disabilities, traversed the country holding public hearings which were attended by thousands of people with disabilities, friends, and families documenting the injustice of discrimination in the lives of people with disabilities.

On May 9, 1989 Senators Harkin and Durrenberger and Representatives Coelho and Fish jointly introduced the new ADA in the 101st Congress. From that moment, the disability community mobilized, organizing a multi-layered strategy for passage. A huge coalition was assembled by the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), which included disability organizations, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR), and an array of religious, labor and civic organizations.

A Viet Nam veteran who had been paralyzed during the war and came home using a wheelchair testified that when he got home and couldn’t get out of his housing project, or on the bus, or off the curb because of inaccessibility, and couldn’t get a job because of discrimination he realized he had fought for everyone but himself – and he vowed to fight tirelessly for passage of the ADA.

After the spectacular Senate vote of 76 to 8 on September 7,1989, the Bill went to the House where it was considered by an unprecedented four Committees [to be passed].

For the first time in the history of our country, or the history of the world, businesses must stop and think about access to people with disabilities.

Interesting about the Title IX thing.  I'm generally ambivalent about Title IX, because its effects on sports  tends to get overblown, but that's  the problem with a law written in the 70s.  It's going to be interpreted by this Administration  however it wants, and we're going to get more and more thought police enforcement out of  many  more  of  these  old statutes as time goes on.

I assume that the electric motor, wheels and controls - if any are pretty generic and the variations will be in the shell of the locomotive that is seen. I watch  essentially  no reality tv, but  the only one I've seen that was even remotely interesting was the one with Heidi  Klum  and a bunch of  young fashion designers.

 

The thing that made it interesing is that, get this, the "contestants"  on the show actually have talent!  And are competing for  REAL  jobs, in  the  REAL  world!!

 

And  you could  duplicate that sort of thing in many other ways.  Instead, networks  seem to focus  on either making people eat bugs, or watching  rednecks in their natural habitats.  Or  both.

This is the closest I could find to the story I remember.  Apparently, the Baroness saw potential in Sarahcuda but wanted her to do the hard work she had done.  Learn erudition, read history, train her mind to think sharply, but Sarah was not down for that. 

 

I revere Palin as a hottie and a red meat slinger, but I don't take her seriously as a prospect.

I like Survivor, because hey its a game show, and there are usually a few cute girls on it running around in bikinis.  And I also like shows like Kitchen Nightmares because those are real world type things happening, and I love it when they do the revisits and the restaurant has closed because they didn't follow the advice.

My feeling then (which I believe today) is that she was the only Republican in 2012 who had a chance of beating Obama.  There was something about her speech at the NRA Convention this weekend that was different, though. Conservative clothing, and that 3-second pause  between "If I were in charge ...." and the rest of the waterboarding message.  Her facebook page occupation is simply "politician".  Period.  Draw thine own conclusions.

And gets rid of mean Gamera before rebooting him as cutey-pie Gamera, friend of children.
