FWIW, the mayor of Moore was just on CNN and reported that only 4 people are listed as "missing" currently. So there's hope (however small) that the numbers won't go up by much (the new corrected number stands at either 51 or 57, I can't remember which.)
Of course I don't know how you get tagged as "missing" so this could be a meaningless guess of a number too.

Carney now claims that IRS question would have been handled better if there wasn't a Benghazi distraction.
But since Obama apparently didn't know about the IRS issue, how would that have anything to do with the White House's response to the Benghazi "scandal?" I put scandal in quotes because it's not a mere scandal; it's a g-ddamn disgrace.

Right so, FEMA money. (Not to belittle the human tragedy here, but there are tons of things to wrap your head around.)
How's that work exactly? Who does it go to? In MO I'm more or less reqired to carry Tornado insurance on my homeowners. So presumably, if my neighborhood got leveled my insurer would pay out correct? So the FEMA goes....? I assume to the locality so they can rebuild roads, utilities, etc. Which begs the question though, WTF am I paying my locality for? Hell, every time there's a semi-minor storm around here my power rate gets hit with a supplemental "line repair" charge (or a general rate increase.)

Also everyone should donate to Mercury One and not the Red Cross. Beck is already in Moore and making sure that all Mercury One funds go to where they are really needed most. He got there at 4 a.m. with two semis full of food and water and medical supplies. More are on the way. The Salvation Army is already there feeding and tending to the first responders and setting up water stations arund the area. Governor Fallin called out the National Guard before the tornado even hit Moore.
It is going to be interesting to see how the media dance around all the obvious help that is pouring into Moore from Christian organizations around the country. FEMA is not going to have very much to do once it gets there tomorrow.

Here's my thing.
According to this administration, All Good Things Come From Obama (tm). At the same time, All Bad Things Had No Obama Involvement (tm). So why wouldn't they inform him of the IRS IG's report? Wouldn't it make sense for them to involve the Mocha Messiah, since his Midas touch (by their admission) turns shit to gold and sewage to spring water? Surely he could have solved the situation with his genius and charisma and it never would have become a scandal at all? Right? Right?
Given the sheer number of bad things this regime keeps encountering, you'd think Obama would want to be involved in absolutely EVERYTHING.

They're doing it on purpose, and it serves them in two ways.
1) It reinforces the idea that Tea Party = Evil. If they're evil, then obviously they deserve extra scrutiny, don't they? (Wait, they stopped targeting the Tea Party. They and SCOAMT said so.)
2) It helps mitigate the possibility that some low level employee will be there, see how peaceful the Tea Party is, and start saying so.

I wouldn't go that far. I think it's being misreported heavily. It's also highly thin and flexible which provides potential new uses.
Just because the media (including The Blaze) reduced it to "cell phone charge fast" doesn't mean it's a moronic device.
Hell, I knew a professor who did work an ethanol powered battery. Her work was reduced to "battery powered by beer!" which was moronic for several reasons. Primarily because the idea of an enzymatic ethanol reaction making power was not new at all. The invention was the carbon-fluoride "tube" she wrapped the enzyme in, which held it together preventing degradation over several years (also possibly useful for other enzymes besides that one.)
But the public would have a hard time understanding that.

Most of their employees are buying in willingly. They have no desire to "help kill this narrative."
Indeed, if one, or two, or a dozen agents come out and say, "Here are the emails we got!" I'm sure that there are dozens more saying, "And it was a welcome email. It was good to know that management had our backs- personally, I was so scared I was going to call in anyway- this way at least I know that management agreed with me!"
And, yes, I do automatically distrust anyone who voluntarily works for the US Government. That distrust can be proven wrong, and actual trust gained, but my default setting is "US Government (specifically civilian- USMIL is different, because reasons) = untrustworthy."

The primary point should be to ensure that every freaking IRS (and other government employee) that broke existing laws should go to trial, get convicted (if guilty), and go to jail for a long long time. And although it may take a while to work up the chain of command, roll the low level scum and turn them on the higher level scum one at a time. If the Repubs in Congress cannot see this or obstruct the administration of justice, they are no longer representatives of "we the people" and should be considered "irrelevant".

#150 - Wow, I am sorry to hear that. This is such a stressful time of year for folks in the Midwest.
I lived through the April 4, 1974 super-outbreak in Kentucky and I have never forgotten it. Was the scariest day of my life. There were 13 tornadoes sighted all around my town over the course of about 16 hours. My sister's college campus was hit, and my brother was nearly killed in Louisville. We went and helped clean up the farm of one of my high school counselors, where every barn was flattened and many cows and horses died.
My husband was a VISTA volunteer in 1979 and helped with the cleanup at Grand Island, Nebraska after a huge tornado there. These are just terrifying events for everyone who lives through them or helps with the cleanup afterward.
I can't imagine worrying about this every year in April and May.

It seems to me that most of the American public is under the belief that the federal income tax as currently configured has been around since time immemorial and thus can't be changed. I suspect the vast majority have no idea that it's only a century old.

Speaking as someone who grew up here (N Central TX is in Tornado alley, too), many of us don't. It would be like someone in CA worrying about an earthquake, or someone in HI worrying about a tsunami or volcanic eruption. You take the best precautions you can, you plan for "what if," and then you go about your life.
Not everyone is that way, of course, but many of us are.

April, May and apparently New Years Eve 2 years ago (seriously. My wife and I thought it was a glitch, slept right through it. Tornado was like 3 miles from our apartment).
I will say this, storms got scarier when I bought a house. Before I was only worried about my personal (family included) safety, now I'm concerned about my property as well.
But that aside, I would say, feel no pity for me. Like I said, it was chaos, winds rolling 60-80MpH but nothing like what OK got.

Worse IMO is that in my not insignificant lifetime, people have been scared shitless of the IRS because of how they can ruin their lives. That is exactly opposite of how it should be; ie they should approach me like mincing nancy-boys afraid that I'll beat the fucking shit out of them for wasting my valuable time.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) at May 21, 2013 06:25 AM (/PCJa)
@AllenG,
The problem of course is that you see the storm coming. I don't worry on a day to day basis "My word, I wonder if a Tornado will hit today!"
But when that storm front starts moving in, it's about an hour of fear until it passes. (Not every storm, after 28 years, you sort of know the ones that are troublesome.)

Ruth Howes, a retired professor from the department who now lives in Santa Fe, said, “The people I know in the department are very straightforward thinkers. I don’t think they mean to preach to anybody, except possibly F = ma (one of Newton’s laws of motion).”
Hedin replaced Howes when she retired.
“It is the university’s job to help students understand viewpoints that differ from their own,” Howes said. “Students are not expected to totally agree with these viewpoints, but they are expected to understand them. I think that is probably what professor Hedin is trying to do, and I would expect the university to back this effort thoroughly. For example, if I were teaching a class on Islam, I would not expect students to convert to Islam, but I would expect them to understand the basic tenants that Muslims believe.”Posted by: HeatherRadish needs a beer at May 21, 2013 06:27 AM (ZKzrr)

(Reuters) - Just open your Twitter feed and listen to the Washington press corps howl about the Obama administration's latest intrusion into their business.
All deplore, in vociferous terms, the excesses of a Department of Justice leak investigation that has criminalized the reporting of Fox News Channel's James Rosen.
While I join this chorus of rage, I also wonder how much of Rosen's trouble is of his own making. Did Rosen get caught and get his source in trouble because he practiced poor journalistic tradecraft?
It's all Rosen's fault! He should have been spied on. Reuters is still loyal Comrade Chairman Barry

Simple solution? Scrap the entire tax code, replace it with a flat tax.
Simpler Solution: Fair Tax. Repeal the 16th Amenedment along with scrapping the entire tax code.
Future Congresses will always be able to take the Flat Tax and unflatten it with the addition of Tax Brackets, deductions, exceptions and intrusive reporting rules.

Repealing the 16th amendment would revert us to the time before any income tax was constitutional. The constitution itself forbids direct taxes of that type.
