Update: "The Vets Have Control of the Memorial"
— Ace




As noted in the last post, Congressman Steve King "distracted" the Capitol Park Police while the veterans, per their training, rushed over the barriers.

Here's a brief Vine video of the veterans reclaiming their Memorial from Obama's Shutdown Theater Prop Workshop.

The remarkable thing about it, is the guy makes the point:

We had some National Parks type on the radio yesterday warning that the Bunker Hill Monument (does anyone actually visit that thing?), USS Constitution and Freedom Trail would be shut down. Yes...the Freedom Trail, which consists of a large red line painted along the appropriate sidewalks. And some guides, but mainly a large red line. Heaven forbid tourists should have to walk along the Freedom Trail and read the plaques for themselves

 

 

Hey, I went to the Bunker Hill Monument!  When we did the Freedom Trail last April.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to go aboard the USS Constitution as that was closed for terrorism.  (We were there for the Boston Marathon, and the Tsarnevs were still on the loose).

380 My Mineralogy professor was supposed to be gone today. He was supposed to fly somewhere and stay for two days to attend a teleconference that our government required... he was rather grumpy about having to put up with the bother. (Yes... fly somewhere and stay to attend a *tele*conference... I didn't make that up.) But he didn't have to go, so he was happy today.

381 Dear Republicans, take a page from Steve King and start leading tours of various tourist spots that are being shutdown as part of the kabuki theater.  Cops ain't stopping a group led by a congresscritter, and the critter gets to play hero all day long.  I don't see a downside here, beyond the critter has to interact with the little people.
