US Strike on Libya Coming "Within Hours"?
— Ace

Earlier I saw a tweet, specifically reporting a "rumor," that Russians were getting on to their ships and withdrawing from Syria. Russia denies this, but I'm starting to think it's true:

Whoops! Syria, Libya, Yemen. It's hard to keep track of the Nobel Peace Laureate's manifold wars, kinetic actions, and drone assassinations.

I guess Obama got bored reading about Miley Cyrus so he's gonna Bomb Something.

58 Kerry-- his skills at diplomacy are zero. If you questioned the chemical attack videos even though there have been fake reports from the Middle East before-- you should check your humanity or morality. How does that help get China, and Russia--there fore the UN on board? Remember how important UN approval use to be? Also-- *if* it was so patently obvious the videos were real-- why did it take almost a week for kerry to come pout and say so? Ghee--maybe because he waited for more confirmation--than just what he thought he saw? It's not as if people do not stage things-- like throwing their Silver Star away--and then admitting decades later that it was all a fake out.

64 Guardian (http://tinyurl.com/nxj79c2):

Warplanes and military transporters have begun arriving at Britain's Akrotiri airbase on Cyprus, less than 100 miles from the Syrian coast, in a sign of increasing preparations for a military strike against the Assad regime in Syria.

Two commercial pilots who regularly fly from Larnaca on Monday told the Guardian that they had seen C-130 transport planes from their cockpit windows as well as small formations of fighter jets on their radar screens, which they believe had flown from Europe.

Residents near the British airfield, a sovereign base since 1960, also say activity there has been much higher than normal over the past 48 hours.

If an order to attack targets in Syria is given, Cyprus is likely to be a hub of the air campaign. The arrival of warplanes suggests that advanced readiness – at the very least – has been ordered by Whitehall as David Cameron, Barack Obama and European leaders step up their rhetoric against Bashar al-Assad, whose armed forces they accuse of carrying out the chemical weapons attack last Wednesday that killed many hundreds in eastern Damascus.

The burning of churches in Egypt or the kidnappings and beheadings of Christians in Syria which are posted on Youtube serve this purpose, there is even the note that the online beheadings are not there so much to scare the Christians but to show their backers in the Persian Gulf that they are doing the job they were paid to do

Mr. Assad allowed al Qaeda operatives to set up a "rat line"; through his country and into northeastern Iraq. Hundreds of young terrorists, many recruited from North Africa, took airline flights into Damascus and joined networks ready to sneak them across the border. Assad's objective: to keep the U.S. occupation off balance by helping al Qaeda kill Americans."

242 Israeli Gas Mask Distribution Ramps Up Amid Syria Escalation, Suspected Chemical Weapons Use by Oren Kessler | 08.26.13 11:54 am Israelis are rushing to equip themselves and their families with gas masks, amid an escalation in the Syrian crisis and the widely suspected use of chemical weapons by the Bashar al-Assad regime. Syria has one of the world’s largest chemical-weapons arsenals, containing roughly 1,000 tons of nerve agents. The Israel Postal Company, which provides the masks through a call-in service, has registered a fourfold rise in gas masks requests nationwide. Sixty-two percent of Tel Aviv residents are already equipped with the masks, compared to three-quarters in Israel’s northernmost city Kiryat Shmona. In Jerusalem the number is just 30 percent. In the capital’s Shmuel Hanavi neighborhood, a member of the Sanz Hasidic community picked up nine gas masks for his large family. He told the Hebrew edition of Yedioth Ahronoth that while he “pray to God to protect the Nation of Israel,” he believes that “to pray without taking a mask is like buying a lottery ticket without buying a ticket.” All told, the Israel Postal Service has thus far distributed at least 4.8 million gas masks, accounting for six in ten Israelis.

396 Don't kid yourself, that is very popular in Israel, especially the Military there. Trust me Posted by: Nevergiveup at August 26, 2013 09:04 PM (9Xc5j) My jokes about the Jimmy Dean Distributorship in Tel Aviv may not be as funny as I thought. Also, IDF babes just got *that much better* in my mind.

Posted by: Justamom at August 26, 2013 09:07 PM (Sptt The Saudi's are first and foremost against Iran. Assad is bed with Iran out of necessity, and the MB in Egypt with with Iran. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Then things start to get blurry around the edges.

404 WWI is a good analogy.

Princip was just a tool of the Black Hand who wanted Serbian independence.  So when ol Ferd got whacked... Austria demanded Princip.  Serbia said no and called Russia.  So Austria called Germany.  And *boom*

So much for smart diplomacy.

Posted by: Chelsea Puma (+SmuD) at August 26, 2013 09:14 PM (SxI9Z) hey it used to be easier, but circumstances, obama, and and the orbit of the moon have scrambled things up so much who knows who is aligned with whom from day to day. But the constants are the Shia hate the Sunni, The Muslims hate the Christians the Jews and the Alawites, the Druze are aligned with whomever they live amongst for self preservation, and the Ruskies are just trouble makers

413 Future Syrian press release:  "Tuesday, August 27, 0920 local time, an American Imperialist cruise missile fell on the El Shahid chemical weapons destruction facility, where the Syrian government has been carrying out the thankless job of deactivating the thousands of tons of chemical munitions dumped here by the murderer Saddam Hussein. The explosion of the missile's warhead breached a pressure vessel containing 250 tonnes of Sarin, a deadly nerve agent. Drifting with the prevailing wind, the toxic cloud killed all but one of the occupants of a Christian church, and wiped out an entire village of Sunni muslims, before dissipating in uninhabited desert."

414 To make that brag, you first have to admit your airspace was penetrated. Seriously, these are arabs we're talking about (e.g., muslims did not crash planes into WTC/The martyrs who crashed the planes into WTC are heroes of islam).

415 With all the excitement that is about to begin and considering how likely events are to go off into some unfortunate direction, it might be worthwhile to consider what might be done about the Iranian nuclear weapons program.  I have a modest proposal.

Several critical Iranian nuclear facilities are deep underground so that they are not vulnerable to conventional bomber attacks.  They could be attacked with penetration bombs but so far the US is refusing to supply Israel with any.  This should not be that much of a problem.  During WW II, Barnes Wallace developed the six ton "Tall Boy" bomb and the ten ton "Grand Slam" bomb.  These were envisioned as "Earthquake Bombs" that could destroy nearby facilities even if they missed by transferring shock to them through the ground.  They were designed to be dropped from 40,000 feet and achieving a velocity of greater than Mach 1 before they hit the ground.  The plans for these bombs are widely available and can probably be downloaded from the internet.

How to deliver them?

There were over 1800 Boeing 727s made from the 1960s to the 1980s.  Due to age and the difficulty they have in complying with airport noise regulations, they have largely been taken out of passenger service.  Israel could probably buy hundreds of them at modest prices.  One of the distinctive features of the 727 is the doorway in the back that allowed D.B.Cooper to jump out while in flight.  A Tall Boy bomb would definitely drop out of that door without problems and a Grand Slam might fit with a bit of modification.  The planes can be fitted with an automatic flight system that takes the plane off flies over the underground nuclear facility, climbs nose up, opens the back door and drops one or more earthquake bombs and then flies on to crash into something that is on the surface and vulnerable to having an airplane crash into it.  Put 500 of these planes into the air at the same time to overwhelm the Iranian air defense systems.  If you want, send some fighters along in the mix to shoot down any Iranian Air Force jets that scramble to intercept the converted airliners.

417 He's gonna do it. A one or two day punishment raid, all because he said chemical weapons would cross a 'red line', now he has to bomb.

That's all he's gonna do, drop some bombs and brag about doing it. No reason, no purpose, no strategy. He was disrespected, so now it's bombing time, and then back to golf.

418 On those TLAM. On the first night of Libya of the nearly 200 launched over 100 came from the USS Florida SSGN. We have 4 of them, 2 in the west 2 in the east. One sub can do a lot of damage, not to mention a destroyer squadron. Intelligence assets in Jordan, SOF to laze the targets. What else?

Assuming it is, kudos for brining up PizzaIDF.org - I think I did so a few months back in these comment sections, along with my favorite memory from their salutation section (you can include comments for the troops receiving the goodies):
